heritage Fund

for Scholastic Achievement Two chapters use their Heritage Fund to award collegiate members for their exceptional work for their chapter, university and Fraternity.

Your donations gave Austin and thousands of other Sig Taus “something to aspire to.” Austin Van Steenburgh, Gamma Chi ’14, (Michigan Technological University) believes that hard work never goes unnoticed. To honor the dedication that sometimes goes overlooked, the Gamma Chi Chapter presents two scholarships to undergraduate members. The Bob Graff and the “Man of the Year” scholastic awards are funded through the chapter’s Heritage Fund. “Often, the Heritage Fund is used for national events like Grand Chapter, Regional Conclaves and the Strategic Leadership Conference, but it is great that we can also offer two scholarship awards to recognize the achievements of our brothers,” said Van Steenburgh. The Gamma Chi Chapter offers the two scholarships annually to members who show exceptional service and involvement to their chapter. With funding from their Heritage Fund, they can recognize the achievements of their members without adding additional fees to their dues.

Heritage Fund. Each spring semester, the chapter presents multiple academic scholarships along with a “Six Principles” Scholarship. This scholarship is for the brother who exemplifies the six Principles in every aspect of brotherhood. “These scholarships give current members an opportunity to see the generous donations our alumni make for men who exceed in academics,” said Brett Tiefenbrunn, CSM, ’13, Alpha Chapter President. “It also provides extra incentive for members to strive to do their best.” Collegiate and alumni members are encouraged to support their chapter’s Heritage Fund as it may be used to give chapter scholarships based on academic and leadership criteria; educational grants to the designated chapter; and leadership grants to undergraduate members of the chapter for participation in institutes, seminars and conventions. To make a contribution to a chapter’s Heritage Fund, please visit www.sigmataugamma.org/donate.

Van Steenburgh is a previous recipient of the Bob Graff scholarship, which has shown him that his brothers notice his hard work and dedication to the chapter. “I know my brothers respect the work I put in and that I can be a role model for them,” said Van Steenburgh. “These awards give all of us in the Gamma Chi Chapter something to aspire to.” The Alpha Chapter at the University of Central Missouri also awards members with scholarships that are funded by their

answer the project LEADERSHIP 1,400 Challenge The brothers of Phi Chapter at Southeastern Louisiana University joined the Project LEADERSHIP movement by setting a goal to raise $10,000 for the Phi Heritage Fund, which offers scholarships and grants to undergraduate members of Phi Chapter. “It is a privilege to be able to advocate for such a worthy mission and I am very appreciative of the receptivity and support I have received in reconnecting with my Phi Chapter brothers,” said Foundation Trustee Paul Phillips, EMF, ’92, who is leading the efforts. “We say ‘Sig Tau for life’ and for me, twenty plus years after graduation, I can testify to the strength in those words and the overwhelming desire to give back to the organization which provided such a great foundation for my post graduate years.”

Project LEADERSHIP has an ambitious goal to raise $250,000 and double the number of donors to the Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation to 1,400. You can start by making a pledge by visiting www.sigmataugamma.org/projectleadership. After you have made the pledge, let everyone know! Chapter Grows

after attending webb Academy Since its establishment in 1985, the Earl A. Webb Academy of Principled Leaders, once called Chapter President’s Boot Camp, has served over 1,400 chapter presidents in 25 years. The Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation has helped fund the Webb Academy for chapter presidents, which serves as a vital asset to the success of our chapters. Brother James Schier, CSM-EF, Epsilon Xi '15 (Saint Louis University), joined Sigma Tau Gamma in 2012 and became chapter president last semester. He was one of the 52 chapter presidents in attendance. “Before attending the Webb Academy, I knew how much I cared about my chapter and the Fraternity,” said Schier. “However, I was unsure how to go about the changes and improvements needed as our chapter prepared for growth. The Webb Academy gave me a blueprint and a vision to be able to implement the results that I had hoped for.” After his time at the Webb Academy, he went back and applied his experience and resources into a bright future for his chapter. Schier knew he could depend on his brothers to help their chapter succeed. By working as a team and striving towards the common goal they could make their chapter the best it can be. “The second I arrived at the Webb Academy, the passion and drive for Sig Tau could not have been more prevalent. I was able to carry that back to the Chapter. The values and principles showed that we could make our chapter the best it could be.”

Epsilon Xi: The brothers of Epsilon Xi at their Spring 2013 initiation

With this enthusiasm, the chapter used the techniques and tools learned at the Webb Academy to have the most successful Spring Rush on the Saint Louis University campus this school year by initiating 15 new members into the chapter. The Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation helps fund a large portion of the Webb Academy thanks to the investment of our donors through many programs like Project LEADERSHIP. This investment in our Foundation gives many chapters a chance to grow and become competitive on campus. “It is apparent that thanks to the donations of so many that we were all able to attend this unique experience,” said Schier. “It was tremendously important that each and every chapter was blessed with the opportunity to come together with the other presidents and with those who have dedicated their lives to making Sig Tau what it is today. I cannot thank the Foundation enough and they should be very proud of the nationwide success which is made possible through their generous donations.”

After working for the Charlotte 49ers Athletic Administration and the Carolina Panthers, Mohit received a full time sales position with the Atlanta Falcons. He credits much of his success to the support of his Epsilon Tau Chapter brothers!

Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity P. O. Box 54 Warrensburg, MO 64093-0054

FoundationNews News Foundation Support Sigma Tau Gamma and Create Your Lasting Legacy Today! Engraved bricks in the courtyard serve as a permanent testimony to those who exemplify abiding love for Sigma Tau Gamma. We invite you to become a permanent part of Sigma Tau Gamma’s history by purchasing a commemorative brick in the White Rose Courtyard, which is located on the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity Headquarters campus in Warrensburg, Missouri. Bricks may be purchased for yourself, a relative or Fraternity brother to show support for the Sigma Tau Gamma. Sweetheart bricks for wives, mothers, sisters and significant others may also be personalized. When you purchase a commemorative brick, you will help pave the way for current and future members of Sigma Tau Gamma as 100% of the proceeds from your tax-deductible purchase benefit leadership programming, grants and scholarships. To secure your place in the White Rose Courtyard, simply fill out the Brick by Brick order form on the Sigma Tau Gamma website and send your $175 gift to the Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation.

In addition to securing your brick in the courtyard pathway, you will receive a color rendering of the inscribed brick in a walnutstained frame that is equipped with an easel back for display on a wall or shelf. These make great gifts and serve as memorials for those we have lost but not forgotten.
