When I think about the next five years for SiGMA, I see a living, breathing network – one that is built on genuine global connections, trust, and integrity.

The kind of place where you could shake hands with someone from the other side of the world and walk away with a new dream to chase.

We’ve never been afraid to venture into new territory. In fact, our first steps out of Malta took place at a time when people were closing doors and buttoning down the hatches. That pioneering spirit will guide us as we continue to expand into newly emerging markets.

In the coming years, our events will become more than gatherings – they will be bridges. From the marble halls of Europe’s historic capitals to the bright, neon hubs across Asia, SiGMA will link emerging markets with established ones, open channels between regulators and innovators, and create a platform where technology, compliance, and creativity meet on equal ground.

But growth alone is not our endgame. We are committed to shaping a safer, more sustainable future for the industry. This means championing responsible gaming, supporting regulatory frameworks that foster innovation while protecting players, and driving conversations about the role technology plays in ethical gaming practices.

Each summit is designed not only to create economic impact, but to leave behind meaningful legacies in jobs, tourism, policy reform, and skill-building.

Through it all, the Foundation remains our heart; its steady beat an anthem to all we do. This book stands as a testament to what becomes possible when industry aligns with purpose. In this industry, change is an inevitable part of the landscape.

In what has been a journey of learning, the SiGMA Group brand has continued to evolve and adapt – balancing the brand’s core values with a fast-changing industry landscape, while still ensuring the company retains its unique identity and heritage.

In 2019, the Malta Blockchain Summit rebranded as AIBC (Artificial Intelligence & Blockchain Conference) to better capture its wider focus on emerging technologies, and later, in 2024, to SiGMA AIBC, incorporating a broader goal that aligned with the company’s new vision – to bridge the tech and gaming worlds.

In 2025, the company made a strategic decision to split the well-known SiGMA Europe event into SiGMA Euro-Med and SiGMA Central Europe. With SiGMA East Europe also moving to Malta and merging with SiGMA Euro-Med, the new names reflect the broader scope of our European ambitions, while reinforcing Malta’s pivotal role in our global roadmap.

From a founder’s perspective, this transformation is deeply personal and incredibly meaningful. It’s a moment of pride to witness how far we’ve come — from a small show first launched in Malta to a globally recognized platform with an established international presence.

By sharpening our focus on the Euro-Med identity, we aim to attract a broader range of investors, operators, and solution providers, ultimately bringing more business and support infrastructure to Malta’s shores. It’s about future-proofing our brand while continuing to serve as a bridge between established and emerging markets.

2025 also saw the expansion of the company’s presence in Asia, which looks to the South with a first event in Colombo.

In coming months SiGMA debuts its North American brand, a result of three years of success in Brazil. Opening its doors in Mexico in 2026, the brand will connect North America to LatAm, a vital step for the Spanish speaking markets.

The evolution of a brand is a testament to its ability to stay relevant in changing markets. Now more than a decade into our story, the essence of who we are remains, but the language has been tweaked, with a visual refresh subtly shifting to resonate with our changing needs as a global brand, and embodying a commitment to innovation. After all, in the words of Maya Angelou, “If you don’t know where you’ve come from, you don’t know where you’re going.”

Thriving in the Global eCommerce Landscape: The power of localised payments, AI innovation, and industry leadership in 2025 Global eCommerce continues to surge in 2025, with transaction volumes projected to exceed $6 trillion, underpinned by the proliferation of mobile commerce, the maturity of digital-native consumers, and the acceleration of cross-border trade. Within this dynamic environment, one of the most defining trends is the dominance of local and alternative payment methods — now a decisive factor in the success or failure of international merchant strategies.

The SiGMA World Tour

Around the world in 8 summits

Since the very first summit in 2014, the SiGMA Group has rapidly evolved into a powerhouse events and media business for the gaming and tech sectors.

The journey began with a 2014 event in Malta, drawing 1,500 delegates, and has grown year-on-year to welcome tens of thousands worldwide. By 2018, SiGMA expanded with international roadshows and launched the Malta Blockchain Summit. Despite challenges from the pandemic, SiGMA pioneered digital events and extended its reach beyond Malta into Dubai, also launching a charitable foundation the same year. In 2023 the opening of new offices and several acquisitions underscored its growth, followed by ventures into Asia, the Americas, and Africa, while a milestone anniversary celebration in 2024. As we step foot into our next decade, SiGMA continues to push boundaries, embracing new ventures in tech, education, and affiliation across the globe. In 2025 Rome and Colombo join the roadshow, followed by Mexico City in 2026.

Vision Eurasia

Going all in

The UAE shines as one of the brightest spots on the global map of digital innovation. Supported by government initiatives and favorable regulations, the UAE ecosystem has created a unique environment for businesses in AI, blockchain, digital assets, and crypto – a safe space where opportunities are nurtured, and the community supports ideas with capital, creativity, and talent.

Since 2021, AIBC has hosted annual events in Dubai, transforming the city into a regional hub for digital innovation in AI, esports, crypto, and asset tokenization.

With mounting pressures from the COVID pandemic and against all odds, SiGMA AIBC faced insurmountable pressures: go all in or fold. As a result, we launched our first summit outside Malta.

The COVID pandemic was the greatest silver lining in our journey so far. Not only did we not contract as a Group. We expanded beyond Malta, launched a VC fund and launched the SiGMA Foundation (more on this later).

The AIBC Summit attracts 10,000–15,000 attendees annually, and with the support of UAE authorities and the business community, these numbers are expected to grow. A key factor is the establishment of the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), a landmark initiative to oversee and license commercial gaming activities, including casinos, lotteries, and online gaming.

The emirate of Ras Al Khaimah introduced the Wynn Resorts project, marking the first regulated casino gaming venture, with strict oversight on responsible gaming and anti-money laundering measures.

Additionally, the UAE is fostering e-gaming through various esports initiatives and Abu Dhabi’s gaming hubs, creating opportunities for growth in these industries and reflecting the UAE’s ambition to become a global hub for entertainment, gaming, and technology.

AIBC is proud to be among the first events in the region to integrate gaming narratives into its well-established event production in the UAE. We aim to bring a vast scope of international partners to the generous land of the Emirates, creating new avenues for large-scale business cooperation, as well as deal and talent flow.

In the coming years, we are betting big on the future of gaming in the Gulf region — together we create a unique, transparent and safe place for tech and gaming businesses to thrive.

A transformative journey

SiGMA’s brand has experienced exponential growth over the past decade. Initially, it was a small expo in Malta, but it has since transformed into an international company, spanning eight EXPOs across the globe.

The influence of SiGMA has grown in proportion to its business expansion. Wherever SiGMA summits are held, the industry converges, and through its extensive reach with regulatory bodies from various jurisdictions, I firmly believe that these summits can significantly influence the conduct of business.

SiGMA wholeheartedly advocates for bridging the gap between governments, regulators, operators and service providers at both the European and global levels.

As the iGaming industry undergoes increased regulation, SiGMA presents a multitude of opportunities. Over the years, the European iGaming industry has undergone a transformative journey, maturing into a properly regulated sector where business practices adhere to all European and international standards.

This evolution has heightened the necessity for dialogue and collaboration among nations, a domain where SiGMA can continue to succeed.

The inaugural AI & Blockchain summit in 2018 was attended by 8,000 delegates, giving Malta the title of “Blockchain Island”.

SiGMA doubled its footprint in a year, expanding for the first time in 2017 to a larger venue.

Previously held at the Intercontinental Arena in St Julian’s, the summit enjoyed a more spacious venue at the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre in Ta’ Qali.

From this energetic and forward-thinking capital, SiGMA has built more than just a stage for industry dialogue; it has laid the foundations for a long-term presence in Asia, with a dedicated office in Manila serving to enhance its presence in this regional hub.

This physical foothold reflects more than business intent.

It speaks to SiGMA’s deeper commitment to the Philippines, and the wider region – expressed not only through its summits but also through a series of philanthropic initiatives supporting education, community development, and charitable projects nationwide. Here, in a country where opportunity and energy abound, SiGMA’s dual vision comes to life: driving business growth while uplifting communities.

Across Asia, the momentum is undeniable. In the Philippines alone, gross gaming revenue leapt by 25% in 2024, reaching a record PHP 410.5 billion. Online gaming has been the catalyst, soaring 165% year-on-year and now contributing more than half of the nation’s total gaming income. Southeast Asia mirrors this surge, with projections showing its online gambling market growing from USD 3.5 billion in 2024 to more than USD 5.5 billion by 2033. These figures tell a story of scale, speed, and transformation.

But numbers alone cannot capture the whole picture. Asia’s gambling and iGaming industries are navigating profound regulatory and digital shifts, reshaping how business is done across the region. Every summit, every gathering, reflects a philosophy that blends global expertise with

This next chapter underscores not only the dynamism of the region but also SiGMA’s mission to foster open conversation, bold collaboration, and forward-looking innovation – set against the backdrop of Manila, and beyond.

In 2018, SiGMA made the bold move of relocating to Manila to set up a local team and office, with the vision of launching an inaugural summit in Asia, as well as what would have been it's very first summit outside of Malta. Partnering with ICE and Clarion Gaming, the debut event was scheduled for June 2020. However, Covid-19 forced a complete shutdown. Both ICE and SiGMA were left refunding exhibitors, and the Manila office was temporarily closed. Despite these setbacks, SiGMA continued funding its Asia operations, confident that a continent of 3.5 billion people would inevitably recover.

That belief paid off. The team weathered the uncertainty of the pandemic, and once restrictions lifted, SiGMA successfully launched its first SiGMA Asia event in July 2023.

In 2023 SiGMA also officially reopened its physical offices in Bonifacio Global City, a thriving business hub in Manila. With a rapidly growing workforce in Asia, the group now operates from state-of-the-art facilities, reaffirming its long-term commitment to the region and its ambition to make Manila the iGaming capital of Asia.

Since its inaugural event in Nairobi in 2023, SiGMA Africa has expanded, with the 2025 summit in Cape Town attracting over 2,500 delegates and featuring more than 150 speakers.

The 2025 summit served as an exciting platform for industry leaders to explore Africa’s evolving regulatory landscape, market expansion, and the integration of emerging technologies.

At several SiGMA Summits, we host Centurion Fight Cards, with weigh-ins on day one and the fights themselves on day two – bringing the sport of MMA closer to the sports betting industry. Now back in his legal practice at José A. Herrera & Associates Advocates, José continues to make his mark, while keeping a watchful eye on Malta’s future. Looking ahead, he envisions two key areas for potential impact should he return to politics. The economic sector, where Malta’s logistical strengths can power the service industry, and the environmental sector, which has been “immensely neglected” in recent years. Without immediate action, José warns, this neglect will affect industries like tourism.

This process includes methods such as mediation, arbitration, and conciliation. ADR is particularly valuable as it offers a less formal, often more expedient, and cost-effective resolution mechanism compared to traditional court proceedings.

Hitting a snag while gambling online can be both frustrating and stressful, which is why, in 2024, SiGMA launched its own ADR platform to assist players with gambling disputes involving licensed operators – the SiGMA Online Casino Complaints Service (Soccs). The service is offered free of charge to players, while operators pay a fixed monthly fee for mediation and resolution. Once the complaint is submitted it undergoes a thorough review process, the issue is examined, and the validity of the complaint is assessed before a verdict is added to the case.

Using its extensive experience in the iGaming industry, SiGMA was able to develop an user-friendly and trustworthy platform to help players with their disputes.

The future of gaming regulation isn’t more rules – it’s smarter oversight

Across Europe and beyond, gaming regulation is under pressure. Calls for tougher enforcement, stricter requirements, and more detailed controls are growing – often in response to very real concerns: the threat of money laundering, the social impact of problem gambling, the pace of technological change.

The instinct to “tighten the net” is understandable – to add more requirements, multiply checks, and impose tighter restrictions. Yet more rules do not necessarily equal better oversight. In some cases, overregulation risks pushing activity into less transparent markets, where consumer protection and fair play are harder to enforce.

It can also burden regulators themselves, creating unnecessarily complex frameworks that are harder to enforce and less responsive to risk. A sprawling rulebook may appear thorough, but it can divert attention from the areas that matter most, draining resources and slowing down decision-making.

For regulators in a global industry, the smarter approach is not to regulate more, but to regulate better.

That means focusing on outcomes, rather than box-ticking. It means targeting oversight where it matters most, identifying risks earlier, and working closely with operators to foster a culture of compliance that is not just procedural but deeply embedded in day-to-day operations.

This is not a departure from Malta’s long-standing regulatory principles, but an evolution – one that builds on two decades of regulatory maturity and responds to the realities of today’s interconnected gaming landscape. We know that the challenges facing our industry – from money laundering to the manipulation of sports betting – rarely stop at national borders. Solutions, therefore, must be equally agile, collaborative, and internationally aware.

Over the past few years, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has refined its supervisory model with a more proactive, riskbased approach, supported by real-time data, industry insights, and targeted interventions. Audits remain part of our toolkit, but they are now reinforced by a wider range of supervisory tools: thematic reviews, mystery shopping exercises, and more sophisticated desk-based reviews. Supervisory meetings give operators a space to raise concerns, while enabling us to gather information and assess knowledge.

This collaborative approach is one of the MGA’s hallmarks – engaging with licensees, other regulators and industry stakeholders in ways that ensure a thriving, safe, and sustainable gaming ecosystem. This, in turn, helps us move away from reactive enforcement and towards prevention, guidance, and early detection – a shift that is essential in a fast-moving global market.

This approach is reflected in our 2025 supervisory priorities, which were developed through in-depth risk analysis and sector engagement. From operational resilience and governance assurance to player protection and sports betting integrity, our focus areas are carefully chosen to reflect real risks – not theoretical ones.

Central to this shift is the belief that licensed operators should be given the flexibility to design compliance systems that suit their business models, provided the outcomes are robust, measurable, and in line with regulatory expectations. This is not about lowering the bar. It’s about holding the sector to account in a way that is practical, scalable, and aligned with real-world operations.

Flexibility must go hand in hand with accountability. That’s why we place a strong emphasis on education and ongoing engagement. Through outreach events, guidance papers, and direct supervisory dialogue, we aim to ensure operators fully understand not just what is expected, but why it matters. The best compliance frameworks are those that are internalised – not just followed, but believed in.

This is especially important as new technologies, including artificial intelligence, begin to shape the industry more profoundly. These tools offer great potential to enhance player protection, improve risk detection, and streamline compliance.

But they also bring new challenges. Rather than prohibit their use, we support creating safe, controlled environments in which innovation can be tested under proper supervision.

Of course, this model also reflects Malta’s broader ambitions. As we pursue long-term digital and economic transformation under Vision 2050, the gaming sector has the opportunity to serve as a model for smart, credible, and future-ready regulation. Not just for the benefit of the industry, but for society more broadly.

In an era when trust is hard-earned and easily lost, strong oversight remains essential. But strength is not always about adding weight. Sometimes, it’s about being more agile, more focused, and more attuned to the realities on the ground.

In a speech to the SiGMA team, Keith Marshall spoke passionately about the work the Foundation does, saying: “There is nothing about what we do that is anything beyond the ordinary. You just need one attribute, credence in what you do.

We know we’re not going to change the world – but if we do what we can, when we can, for who we can, and if we aspire to inspire, then that’s the only ethos we need moving forward.”

Through fundraising expeditions and charitable activities, such as the SiGMA Auction, the Foundation is dedicated to empowering communities and fostering positive social change by supporting projects and programs that uplift disadvantaged communities, promote education, and enhance well-being worldwide.

The fight outside the cage The Faculdade da Luta, a sports school located near Heliópolis, São Paulo’s largest favela, provides structured MMA training – such as boxing, jujitsu, and wrestling – alongside classes in English, financial literacy, sports marketing, nutrition, and mentorship. The goal is to equip young people not just to succeed in sport, but in life. By combining martial arts with education and life skills, the centre offers a way out of poverty and a path towards a career in sports.

The centre was inaugurated on the 7th of April, with his Excellency, John Aquilina, Malta’s Ambassador to Brazil, joining representatives from the SiGMA Foundation and Centurion FC. Looking ahead, Centurion FC plans to expand this model to other communities. With support from the MMA and iGaming industries, the goal is to build a network of youth centres that foster growth, discipline, and opportunity. “The real fight isn’t in the cage,” Roberto Gallo, CEO of Centurion FC, says, “the real battle is overcoming limits and never giving up.”

Hope in the heap When Fr. Anton Grech arrived in Guatemala 21 years ago; civil war was raging and communities were desperate. Today he primarily works in a remote Mayan community, running a series of critical initiatives supported by the SiGMA Foundation.

The Guatemala garbage dump is the biggest landfill in Central America. Over a third of the country’s total rubbish ends up there. On the peripheries of this 40-acre landfill an estimated 60,000 people live in extreme poverty. In the city of Puerto Barrios Izbal is home to 60 families, many of whom survive by sifting through the biohazardous scrapheap for dusty treasure – a toxic and perilous job that seeps into their homes – and lungs.

A new project will fund a plastic baling machine – part of a recycling program that will not only soothe an aching landscape but a community sorely in need.

In 2025, the first phases of a grassroots medical outreach plan sprung into action, the newly inaugurated John Farrugia Ophthalmic Operating Theatre in Izbal, Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, opening a sustainable pathway to eye surgery for thousands of local and Mayan residents who previously lacked access to specialist care. The unit’s equipment was sourced entirely through Maltese and international donations, with transport and installation costs covered by the Foundation’s adventure fundraising challenges.

The first twelve cataract operations were performed free of charge within the opening fortnight, prioritising patients from remote villages who had waited up to five years for intervention.

Training sessions have now started for two Guatemalan nurses, ensuring the facility can operate year-round without relying solely on foreign missions.

Remote reach: Healthcare at the end of the river

On the edge of Peru’s Northern Amazon lies Iquitos, a port city so remote that it can only be reached by air or river. Serving the region is the Algo Bello Para Dios Hospital, a vital source of healthcare for communities there. Here, healthcare can be life-changing.

The hospital also provides essential treatment for severe conditions that have devastated the region, including AIDS, tuberculosis, cancer, and renal failure.

This project was supported by EGT Digital.

No one is more aware of this fact than Fr. Raymond Portelli, a Gozitan missionary priest and doctor who runs the facility and has witnessed first-hand the increased number of patients needing treatment.

In April 2025, the SiGMA Foundation supported the construction of a new wing – allowing it to serve more people from some of the most impoverished and remote river areas, places where healthcare is scarce, but the need is plentiful.

Dreams of Horses Farm offers sanctuary and healing in Gozo 300

Nestled in the serene Ramla Valley on the island of Gozo, Dreams of Horses Farm is a heart-centred, family self-funded initiative that unites therapy, rescue and education around the equine experience. Fundamentally, the farm promotes Equine-Assisted Learning and animal-assisted therapy for individuals with varying degrees of emotional, social, or physical challenges, thanks to the fantastic support of local volunteers.

With recent recognition at the highest levels of government and a substantial €50,000 boost from the SiGMA Foundation for a dedicated therapy facility, Dreams of Horses Farm is strengthened in its mission to foster emotional growth and resilience through human-animal connection.

Victor Muscat started the farm with the help of family and volunteers, and is now providing invaluable hands-on interactions with rescued horses, as well as many types of farm animals that have come to live out their lives in safety and with purpose. During a visit to the farm, clients will participate in caring for and feeding the animals, learn about animal care and rehabilitation, and engage in equine-assisted learning sessions.

Faces that G.L.O.W. Cartagena – a port city on Colombia’s rugged Caribbean coast, where almost half of residents live below the poverty line. In 2024, the Foundation teamed up with Premium Care Kids as part of G.L.O.W. (Give Little Ones Wings) – a campaign on a mission to support underprivileged children around the globe.

Working hand-in-hand with Premium Care Kids – an inspiring initiative led by Dr. Restrepo, and Dr. Campbell – over 60 children received life-changing surgeries in 2024. These operations have extended a lifeline to vulnerable families across South America, many from impoverished communities in Colombia and Venezuela, giving children like Elias the chance to face the world with confidence.

For children like Elias David, a little boy from Bolivar born with a disfiguring cleft lip and palate, the simple act of smiling seemed out of reach. These days he can’t stop laughing.

Launched in 2024, the Women Empowerment Centre is proving nothing short of transformative for some of the poorest women in the region. With a view to breaking the poverty cycle, the centre aims to empower – enabling them to acquire the skills necessary to attain sustainable employment and financial autonomy.

Ubuntu in Bonga Amid the rolling emerald hills and rust-red earth of Jimma Bonga, a remarkable vision took shape: a 3-in-1 school, uniting kindergarten, primary, and junior secondary education under one roof. After three years of dedication, and with €300,000 raised through previous Camino expeditions, the dream became reality, providing both nourishment and education for a thousand Ethiopian children.

The school’s impact reached far beyond its walls, becoming a spark for future transformation in the region. The Foundation has since returned to Bonga many times, – launching a women’s empowerment project in 2025 and laying the groundwork for the construction of four new classrooms – an addition to the Kaffa Catholic Martyrs Elementary school, and a water harvesting system at Wush Wush Kindergarten School.

At the heart of it all lies Ubuntu, the South African ideal that our humanity is bound together through compassion, generosity, and shared destiny.

Tucked away in the Maghreb foothills of the Atlas Mountains is the Berber village of Imlil. There, surrounded by a magnificent national park, rises Mount Toubkal – the highest peak in North Africa. Following months of intense training, 22 individuals undertook a 3-day sponsored climb in aid of one of the Foundation’s most successful projects to date – the Women Empowerment Project in Bonga, Ethiopia.

Driving dreams In 2024, the SiGMA Foundation brought lasting change to Bataan.

A new multi-sensory hall opened its doors to the community’s children and youth – a place for music, creativity, and shared expression. Here, lessons become concerts, rehearsals turn into performances, and young talent has a space to grow. It is now the home of the Jose Depiro Youth Orchestra, sparing its members the long journeys to Manila and giving them a stage close to home.

Alongside the hall came a community bus – no longer a plain white coach, but a moving artwork, transformed by Maltese graffiti pioneer James Micallef Grimaud into something that reflects the spirit of those it serves.

These gifts follow years of support: solar panels powering the Community Centre, and the rebuilding of the Parish Church.

On June 5, 2025, the Foundation took another step forward with the Batiawan Community Centre in Zambales – a gathering place for the Aetas people, offering space for learning, culture, and connection.

Every step upward will be a step toward success, raising the funds needed to build a kindergarten school in Kasese, Uganda. On the slopes of Kilimanjaro, the climb is physical, but the summit is human: a place where the view is measured not only in miles, but in the lives changed below.

“When we started online gaming in Malta 25 years ago, the island had only 2 MB of internet – and each MB cost €10,000 per month. There were no data centers, no properly equipped offices, and no one knew what online gaming was – let alone having the workforce ready for it.

Very few believed that this could become an industry for Malta, but those who did are here with me tonight.

Together we supported one another, challenged one another, and put this vision forward.

We faced countless challenges, but for us – no was not an option – in true Maltese spirit it was always: Yes – we’ll figure it out. And we did.

Within a few years Malta became a global leader that regulated online gaming. The remote gaming regulations of 2004 were a turning point, not only for Malta, but the entire world. Firstly, it is the first piece of regulation to regulate a business based on the internet. We showed that online gaming would be properly regulated and we introduced some principles that have since become a global standard – like B2B and B2C, safeguarding of player funds, responsible gaming, independent certification and auditing. We also managed to introduce into the EU an AML framework – the concept of online gaming. Back then none of these existed; today they are part of every overseas jurisdiction, helping countries move from prohibition to legalisation. For me it has been a privilege to work in this industry. To see colleagues become life long friends and to have played a part in building something new. Creating regulated gaming was more than a job – it was the launch of a global industry of immeasurable proportions.

Tonight as we celebrate these achievements we want to say thank you – to everyone who believed and to everyone who worked and to everyone who continues to carry this vision forward. The future is still to be written but the foundations we built together will always remain.”

The items included paintings by Jono Duran Pisano, Lena Maria Ludes, and Selina Scerri, along with a boxing glove signed by world champion Manny Pacquiao.

The art of giving

Held to support the SiGMA Foundation’s charitable projects, the SiGMA auction has received remarkable support from artists worldwide. From the walls of the Burj Khalifa to international exhibitions, artworks have made their way into prestigious homes and hallowed halls. Many pieces stand out for their unique contributions to the artworld, with the AI-powered collaboration between Umnai and the late Mark Mallia blurring the boundaries between human and machine.

Other notable projects include a special artwork for the Jose Depiro Youth Orchestra bus from street artist James Micallef Grimaud. Bringing Bataan to life, the artwork is a vibrant testament to the passion and creativity of the community.

Mark Mallia and Angelo Dalli

At the 2018 Malta Blockchain Summit, renowned Maltese artist, the late Mark Mallia and tech entrepreneur Angelo Dalli made waves by introducing AI-powered art in collaboration with Umnai, Dalli’s AI company. Together, they created an AI system named Uma (Universal Machine Artist), designed to learn painting techniques through observation of Mallia’s methods. Over a period of training, Uma created its own interpretations of Mallia’s pieces, blending human creativity with machine learning. This initiative led to one of the world’s first AI paintings, auctioned as part of a set depicting two women merged together at the torso – Agnes and Ingrid, and Agnes and Ingrid reimagined, for €17,500 to support local charitable causes. In the same year, a second piece – a reinterpretation of a portrait of the humanoid Sophia was auctioned at the SiGMA Europe Awards. After a tense bidding war, the painting was won by BetConstruct for €18,000.

Mallia’s traditional work merged with Uma’s digital reinterpretations, challenging the boundaries between human and machine creativity. The project demonstrated Malta’s push for AI innovation, establishing it as a centre for both artistic and technological advancements.

This blend of art and AI, celebrated at the summit, highlighted AI’s potential to contribute to creative fields while remaining distinct from human artistic expression.

Jono Pisano Jono Pisano, an Italian-Filipino artist, has contributed notable works to the SiGMA Foundation’s charity initiatives, including art auctions held at various summits. His artwork reflects a mix of classical influences and contemporary perspectives, often inspired by his experiences across different cultures, especially in the Philippines, which he now considers home. Pisano’s works aim to provide viewers a sense of calm and introspection amid life’s chaos. His piece “Tropical Serenade,” inspired by serene natural settings, was auctioned at the SiGMA Europe Awards in Malta.

This contribution aligns with Pisano’s vision to encourage viewers to pause and reflect, counteracting modern digital distractions​.

In 2025, the network will make its debut in two iconic cities — Rome, a cradle of history and culture, and Colombo, a gateway to South Asia’s dynamic markets. The same year, the launch of the SiGMA Poker Tour brought high-stakes excitement to Brazil and Malta, blending competitive spirit with networking opportunities. Meanwhile SiGMA refocused its efforts in Malta with a target and niche approach that delves in the Euro-Med region.

The momentum continues into 2026, with fresh horizons opening with a debut in Mexico City that builds new bonds between the North American markets and LatAm. Meanwhile SiGMA South Asia rotates to Thailand – a reflection of the country’s progressive first steps to regulation. The SiGMA Poker Tour will also expand to new stops in Manila and Mexico, cementing its presence in both the Americas and Asia.
