“The Paper With A Hometown Flavor” How to walk a Human- A Dogs Guide

Sneeze into your elbow, not your hand. Please.

When you feel a sneeze or a cough coming on, covering your mouth prevents the spread of infectious germs. You probably knew that. But the way you cover up also matters, and there are plenty of people who haven’t yet heard the consensus guidance of health officials: If no tissue is available, you should aim into your elbow, not your hand. Even if that means breaking a longheld habit. “If somebody sneezes into their hands, that creates an opportunity for those germs to be passed on to other people, or contaminate other objects that people touch,” said Dr. Vincent Hill, chief of the waterborne disease prevention branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Germs are most commonly spread by the respiratory droplets emitted from sneezing and coughing. When they land on your hands, they’re transmitted to things like door knobs, elevator buttons and other surfaces the people around you are likely to also touch. Humans need exercise. If they don’t get enough of it, they become sluggish, overweight and out of shape. It’s up to you to save them from this tragedy. Allow your human to tether themselves to you. This keeps them from wandering off or running away. Your human will need a sniff break in the shade now and then. Don’t forget and just “March On” for the walk. Give your human a break. You need to bark at others now and then, this keeps your human focused on the walk. Humans have short attention spans. When you need to go potty, just go… then walk away. Most likely, if trained correctly, your human will come over and pick it right up. They seem to enjoy this exercise. When your human isn’t paying attention, start pulling hard away from your human. This a is great power and balance training exercise for your human. When you first start the walk, make sure you stop to sniff and pee every 3 feet. This will let your human know that you are in charge of the walk! When your human starts leading in front to much, just stop. Sit down, put the brakes on. This will teach your human to go where you want to go and again, show who’s in charge here. Once you see you are almost home, slow down and walk nice and easy with your human. Make it a great experience when you return home. Humans have short memories, they will only remember the last 2 minutes of the walk and will take you out again soon because of positive reinforcement. Make sure you act and are excited when the leash is taken off of you. This is a bonus training marker. Your human will respond very well to you and most likely run to get you a treat while talking in that high pitch tone they are fond of. This is the sound they make when they are happy. Adam’s Rib

At Sunday School they were teaching how God created everything, including human beings. Little Johnny seemed especially intent when they told him how Eve was created out of one of Adam’s ribs. Later in the week his mother noticed him lying down as though he were ill, and she said, ‘Johnny, what is the matter?’ Little Johnny responded, ‘I have pain in my side. I think I’m going to have a wife.’

Men are misunderstood

Men are misunderstood alot, which all in all is probably for the best. Women are better off not knowing that we eat with our hands the minute they leave the room or that we use their nail clippers to trim our nose hair. Better for them, better for us. Still, it’s annoying that women spend more time and money trying to understand the minds of cats than they do wondering about what makes men tick. Which is why they’ll never understand... Our consuming need to own the biggest and most expensive version of just about everything. Our compulsive desire to drive off-road vehicles in cities and use corkscrews that resemble offshore drilling equipment is well documented. As marketing targets, men are suckers for terms like “professional” or “industrial strength,” because inside every man is the germ of every profession he ever imagined himself one day excelling at. Most of these purchases are harmless, little more than childish wish fulfillment played out at a higher testosterone level. But occasionally we go too far. The guy upstairs from me once boasted that he had a filter which filled his flat with “operating theater quality air.” I kept him away from my surgical steel steak knives. Why we are so bad at shopping. We’ve never been trained to do it the right way. Supermarkets are like giant booby traps for males -- which is why if you send a man out to get eggs, sugar and bread, you should not be surprised if he returns home with a case of beer, a pair of jeans and a tree. The reason why we don’t like to discuss “The Relationship.” Most of us will find any excuse to dodge those conversations that

8

start with questions like “Are you really happy?” and “Where do you see us going?” A relationship is a delicate thing, like an antique clock, and we know what will happen if we start picking it apart. Often our reticence will result in a lengthy conversation about why we have trouble talking about... “The Relationship.” Why we think we can fix things. Almost all men believe they can repair virtually anything with a little patience. In reality, we’re only half right. Men are extremely good at taking things apart: whether it’s a dishwasher or an antique clock, a man can break it down to its most basic components in no time. Unfortunately, this is where our expertise usually leaves off, and we’re mostly satisfied with leaving bits and pieces spread all over newspaper on the kitchen table. Men and video games. Women cannot understand how grown men can waste huge chunks of their lives zapping things off a screen. When a man repeatedly rings his girlfriend to say he has to work late and routinely comes home at two in the morning all glassy eyed, she will usually take this as evidence of an affair -- when it’s more likely that a pirated copy of Streetfighter V is making the rounds at the office. There was a fly

There was a fly buzzing around a barn one day when she happened upon a pile of fresh cow manure. Due to the fact that it had been hours since she had had her last meal, she flew down and began to eat. She ate and ate. Finally, she decided she had eaten enough and tried to fly away. She had eaten too much though, and could not get off the ground. As she looked around wondering what to do, she spotted a pitchfork leaning up against the wall. She climbed to the top of the handle and jumped off, thinking that once she got airborne, she would be able to take flight. Unfortunately she was wrong and she dropped like a rock, and smashed when she hit the floor. Dead! ARE YOU READY FOR THE MORAL OF THE STORY? Never fly off the handle when you know you’re full of poop. A little Super Bowl history

Though the NFL officially formed in 1920, the Super Bowl wasn’t played until more than 40 years later. In 1960, a group of businessmen who wanted to own football franchises—but were denied by the NFL—launched an alternative league, known as the American Football League (AFL). For several years, the NFL and AFL were rivals, competing for fans, players and support. Then, in 1966, owners negotiated an agreement to merge the leagues by 1970. After the leagues merged, the NFL split into two conferences: the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). The champions of each play in the Super Bowl The first Super Bowl, which featured the AFL (Kansas City Chiefs) and NFL champion (Green Bay Packers), was played January 15, 1967. The game was originally called the “AFLNFL World Championship Game.” Later, Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt proposed using the term “Super Bowl” to refer to the championship game. In Super Bowl I, the NFL champion Green Bay Packers defeated the AFL champion Kansas City Chiefs, 35-10, on January 15, 1967, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Although ticket prices averaged $12, the game was not a sellout—the only non-sellout in the game’s history. The game drew 61,000 fans and was televised by CBS and NBC. The next year, the Packers decisively won Super Bowl II against the Oakland Raiders, 33-14. Many questioned whether the AFL champion could beat the NFL’s best. (history.com)

“The Paper With A Hometown Flavor” Grand....Parent Estrangement, A ‘Silent Epidemic”

10

There is an epidemic that is affecting the lives of both loving grandparents and also their precious little grandchildren. This epidemic goes by many names – grandparent alienation, grandparent abandonment, grandparent estrangement, severe child abuse, severe elder abuse, emotional domestic violence. Whatever you call it, it is rampant in our society and other countries of the developed world. It doesn’t just happen as a result of marriage breakdown, or because of teenage rebellion or because of childhood neglect or abuse. It happens in loving families. It has happened to us. It has happened to our kind loving daughter who never caused us a day’s trouble. She met a controlling man and he quite literally swept her off her feet with his charms and affections. Things moved very fast and within a very short time wedding bells were planned; it was all about him and she fell under his spell. One by one, when he no longer had any need for a member of her childhood family, he would find fault in them and eliminate them. This narcissist managed to convince her that her childhood was unhappy and created the most bizarre and contradictory stories to support the case. She slowly believed that she had always had these thoughts. She was brainwashed; she was unable to see through his very powerful and evil brainwashing skills. She was unable to see what was happening to her life and therefore did not talk to anyone about it. His own family were able to remain in contact but we believe under his strict conditions. He also found faults in her friends and they too were eliminated. He had succeeded – he had isolated her. Their relationship resembled a cult. It was and is a one-on-one cultic relationship. When children arrived on the scene, the isolation escalated. We, the grandparents, were never informed of an impending birth and have never ever set eyes on one of our grandchildren even though they live close by. And so our grandchildren will be growing up under the control of a narcissist. They will also be being brainwashed. They quite likely will be being taught to hate. Children who suffer such alienation will sadly grow up with no cohesiveness and in their family lives and will be unbalanced without the knowledge of their roots. They will only know the splintered and dysfunctional lives their parents have taught them. But alienation is generational. It will repeat in the lives of the children whose parents are perpetrating it upon them. This cycle will continue. It will come back to bite our daughter and her husband. When I look back over this horrible sequence of events I must find a weakness in my daughter in that she succumbed to her husband’s demands. That she could change from a kind compassionate girl to such a cruel person is so sad and so difficult to understand. This situation has been described as a living death. It is as though she is dead yet we know she is still alive. We cannot grieve properly – there is no body while she breathes in the same air just a short distance from us. We have many times suggested meeting up and talking through the issues but we get no response. We have told her that she is welcome back into our lives whenever she wishes. We will ask no questions. Meanwhile we, the grandparents, must get on with our lives. I have never held back on talking to family and friends about what has happened. I have never even once had anyone say to me that we must have been bad parents. People who have known our family since our daughter was little have all initially reacted

with disbelief and shock. In fact several friends have become concerned that the same thing could happen to them when they became grandparents. I don’t expect any of them to truly understand as you have to live this horror to appreciate the enormity of the situation. It was when I first talked to family and friends that I heard of the words brainwashing and narcissism. To date we have also spoken to a total of six psychologists/counselors and in each meeting those same two words brainwashing and narcissism along with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) were mentioned. I guess I was very naïve. I also had never heard of the term family estrangement before. I had never ever heard of anyone distancing themselves from their family. Sure we didn’t always see eye to eye with our own parents but we would never have eliminated them from our lives. It makes no sense. Family is precious. Yes, I was very naïve. Now I find that there are so many support groups online. When I read of similar stories being told by people I realize that we are not alone and that this situation is an epidemic. I personally find that distraction is the only way I can cope. I plan to keep myself healthy so that I am still here when my grandchildren come looking for me one day – as they surely will. Thank you to our anonymous contributor for sharing this story. (startsat60.com) Evening news is where they begin with ‘Good evening’, and then proceed to tell you why it isn’t.

“The Paper With A Hometown Flavor” Two-Minute Management Course

What’s for supper?

This guy was watching TV as his wife was out cutting the grass during the hot summer. He finally worked up the energy to go out and ask his wife what was for supper. Well, his missus was quite irritated about him sitting in the air conditioned house all day while she did all the work, so she scolded him. “I can’t believe you’re asking me about supper right now! Imagine I’m out of town, go inside and figure dinner out yourself.” So he went back in the house and fixed himself a big steak, with potatoes, garlic bread and tall glass of iced tea. The wife finally walked in about the time he was finishing up and asked him, “You fixed something to eat? So where is mine?” “Huh? I thought you were out of town.” PIONEER GLASS PLUS, RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL, emergency services, fair prices, dependable quick service, quality work, 45 years experience, Frank Boudreau, owner NV#7876 (775)720-2373 AERATING & DETHATCHING $300 MOST Yards, Sprinkler Repair, Tree & Juniper Removal, Excavating, Earth, Turf & Timber Landscape Maintenance (775)450-1955 D R LANDSCAPING, DEFENSIBLE SPACE, TREE work and yard cleanups, sprinkler repairs and weed abatement, house and garage clean ups, Dave (775)671-0808

Lesson One - An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, “Can I also sit like you and do nothing?” The eagle answered: “Sure, why not.” So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit, and ate it. Management Lesson – To be sitting doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up. Lesson Two - A turkey was chatting with a bull. “I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree,” sighed the turkey, “but I haven’t got the energy.” “Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?” replied the bull. “They’re packed with nutrients.” The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree. He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree. Management Lesson – Bullcrap might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there. Lesson Three - A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold; the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He laid there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him. Management Lessons – (1) Not everyone who craps on you is your enemy. (2) Not everyone who gets you out of crap is your friend. (3) And when you’re in deep crap, it’s best to keep your mouth quiet! Please signal your turns!

Submitted by Kevin Kiefer, Gardnerville, NV

One third of ALL auto accidents in this Country are a result of poor or no signals. NV drivers have the worst record by my observation, of anywhere I’ve lived, except California. I’ve lived in: ND, MN, Ohio, Oregon, Washington & California, finally retiring here in Northern NV. I believe that only about HALF of all NV drivers use their turn signals! Statistics tell us: there are 6 million auto accidents/year; 2 million are caused by improper or non-use of turn signals! Not only lane-changes are ignored, but turns, and especially turns from a “marked turn lane”. Mommy test

I was out walking with my 6 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and, for some reason, started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that. “Why?” my daughter asked. “Because it’s been laying on the ground, you don’t know where it’s been, it’s dirty and probably has germs” I replied. At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, “Wow! How do you know all this stuff?” “Uh,” I was thinking quickly, “All moms know this stuff. It’s on the Mommy Test. You have to know it, or they don’t let you be a Mommy.” We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information. “OH...I get it!” she beamed, “So if you don’t pass the test you have to be the daddy.” “Exactly” I replied back with a big smile on my face and joy in my heart. After the eighty-nine year old lady finished her annual physical examination, the doctor said, “You are in fine shape for your age, Mrs. Mallory, but tell me, do you still have intimacy?” “Just a minute, I’ll have to ask my husband,” she said. She stepped out into the crowded reception room and yelled out loud, “Bob, do we still have intimacy?” And there was a hush. You could hear a pin drop... After the spring break, a teacher asked her young pupils how they spent the holidays. One youngster offered the following: “We always used to spend the holidays with Grandma and Grandpa. They used to live in a nice big brick house. But, grandpa got retarded and they moved to Floriduh. Now they live in a place with lots of other Grandmas and Grandpas. They live in a tin box and have rocks painted green to look like grass. They ride around in huge tricycles and wear name tags because they don’t know who they are anymore. They go to a big building called the wrecked center. They must have fixed it because it looks pretty good now. They play games and do exercises there, but they don’t do them very well. There is a swimming pool, too, but they all jump up and down in it with their hats on. I guess they don’t know how to swim. At the gate, there is a dollhouse with a little old man who sits in it. He watches all day so nobody can escape. Sometimes though, they do manage to sneak out. Then they go cruising in their golf carts. Grandma used to bake cookies and other neat things, but I guess she forgot how. Nobody there cooks, they just eat out. And they eat the same thing every night, “Early Bird,” whatever that is. Some of the people can’t get past the old man in the dollhouse. So the ones that escape bring food back to the wrecked center and call it a potluck. My Grandma says Grandpa worked all his life to earn his retardment and says that I should work hard so I can also be retarded someday too. When I earn my retardment, I want to be the old man in the dollhouse. Then I’ll let people out so they can visit their grandchildren.” 1971 BLUE AND WHITE VW SUPER BEETLE CONVERTIBLE, excellent condition in and out, second engine only 9,000 miles $15,000 OBO, located in Indian Hills (775)267-3888 YARD ENHANCEMENT SERVICES, handyman, fence repair/rebuild, tree and brush trim/removal, defensible space improvement, hauling, dump runs, Gardnerville area, Kelly (209)352-0084 SPECIALIZING IN GARAGES, ADDITIONS, REMODELS, decks, patio covers, free estimates, NV#0080432, Redline Construction Inc. “The Paper With A Hometown Flavor” Living life through the windshield and not the rear view mirror

We all had an image in our mind of how life was supposed to be. The road we were meant to take. As teenagers or young adults this road included a great marriage. A happy little (or large) family where everyone is healthy. A road marked with an exciting career or new business. A path filled with great friends, family and happiness. Maybe some are fortunate enough to have it turn out just like imagined, but for most the road gets bumpy along the way. Let’s face it – even those that appear most ‘successful’ experience a part of their journey to be a little messy. For many, major detours have led us down paths that look very little like we imagined when we started out. Some detours on life’s journey are a result of the wrong turns they have chosen to take. That road is dark and leads to a far away destination. The U-Turn, away from the wrong path, is made. But the damage is done. Consequences are real. And even though the road we are on now may be so much better, we still grieve over past wrong turns. Living life staring through the rear view mirror is a hard way to live. The road ‘that could have been’ is far gone. The road ahead of us is what cries out for our attention. Regardless of what lies behind us, the road directly in front of us is the one paved with hope and life. We have to live in the now. Quit staring in the rear view mirror because the view back there isn’t going to change any. Right in front of you is the life God has blessed you with. (K.Barlow)

Looking Fine

Where are you from?

A man stumbles up to the only other patron in a bar and asks if he could buy him a drink. “Why of course,” comes the reply. The first man then asks: “Where are you from?” “I’m from Ireland,” replies the second man. The first man responds: “You don’t say, I’m from Ireland too! Let’s have another round to Ireland.” “Of course,” replies the second man. I’m curious, the first man then asks: “Where in Ireland are you from?” “Dublin,” comes the reply. “I can’t believe it,” says the first man. “I’m from Dublin too! Let’s have another drink to Dublin.” “Of course,” replies the second man. Curiosity again strikes and the first man asks: “What school did you go to?” “Saint Vincent’s,” replies the second man, “I graduated in ’62.” “This is unbelievable!”, the first man says. “I went to Saint Vincent’s and I graduated in ’62, too!” About that time, in comes one of the regulars and sits down at the bar. “What’s been going on?” he asks the bartender. “Nothing much,” replies the bartender. “The O’Malley twins are drunk again.” MINOR TO MAJOR AUTOMOTIVE REPAIRS, Tires and More! Once upon a time

Once upon a time, a perfect man and a perfect woman met. After a perfect courtship, they had a perfect wedding. Their life together was, of course, perfect. One snowy, stormy Christmas Eve, this perfect couple was driving their perfect car along a winding road, when they noticed someone at the side of the road in distress. Being the perfect couple, they stopped to help. There stood Santa Claus with a huge bundle of toys. Not wanting to disappoint any children on the eve of Christmas, the perfect couple loaded Santa and his toys into their vehicle. Soon they were driving along delivering the toys. Unfortunately, the driving conditions deteriorated. The perfect couple and Santa Claus had an accident. Only one of them survived the accident. Question: Who was the survivor? Answer: The perfect woman survived. She’s the only one who really existed in the first place. Everyone knows there is no Santa Claus and there is no such thing as a perfect man. Women stop reading here… that is the end of the joke. Men keep reading. So, if there is no perfect man and no Santa Claus, the woman must have been driving. This explains why there was a car accident. Men Only… Keep reading. By the way, if you’re a woman and you’re still reading… this illustrates another point: “Women never listen.” March 17th - St. Patrick’s Day

The old lawyer

An old, stingy lawyer had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and was determined to prove wrong the old saying, “You can’t take it with you.” After much thought and consideration, the old ambulance chaser finally figured out how to take at least some of his money with him when he died. He instructed his wife to go to the bank and withdraw enough money to fill two pillowcases. He then directed her to take the bags of money to the attic and leave them directly above his bed. His plan: When he passed away, he would reach out and grab the bags on his way to heaven. Several weeks after the funeral, the deceased lawyer’s wife, up in the attic cleaning came upon the two forgotten pillow cases stuffed with cash. “Oh, that old fool,” she exclaimed. “I knew he should have had me put the money in the basement.” PLUMBING, LEAKY PIPES, SERVICE AND REPAIR, remodels, new construction, residential and commercial, since 1997, bonded and insured, guaranteed, NV#47214, CA#513872, Call Robert (775)690-1441 Man is the only living being who cuts trees, makes paper, and writes “SAVE THE TREES” on it. His cousin was amazed that he had an answer so quickly. “How do you know that?” “Easy,” the little boy said. “All you have to do is add it up,” like the Bishop said: “4 better, 4 worse, 4 richer, 4 poorer.” Writing the Editor - We welcome all articles, letters, jokes and comments on Sierra Scoop, local issues, community news and free private party ads, published as space provides. March 20th - First Day of Spring - Yippee! 26

According to the Food Marketing Institute, just 40 percent of American families eat dinner together, and then, no more than two or three times a week. That’s in stark contrast to just a generation ago when close to 80 percent of families regularly ate evening meals together. The term “Family Table” obviously describes the situation in which the family shares time together while eating a meal, but it is much more than that. It is a time of open communication in a relaxed setting, allowing all family members to share ideas and experiences. As early as 1943, researchers were discussing the benefits of the Family Table from a sociological and cultural viewpoint. “Family table talk is an essential part of the process whereby the family inducts the child into the life of society.” Family meals allow the parents to impart values and traditions, as well as demonstrate appropriate relationships, communication techniques, and problem solving skills. Family meals are powerful for many reasons. First, meal times impact all of our senses – the sight, touch, taste, and smell of food, as well as listening to family conversation. Family meals offer the opportunity to spend time together, reconnect after a busy day, communicate with and listen to each other, share values and ideas, and problem solve. Family meals also contribute to traditions that tie families together. A special food for a birthday celebration, a favorite place to eat for special occasions, a cultural or ethnic food unique to the family’s heritage – these become traditions that provide meaning and context for children as they grow. Family meals provide structure for the day, allowing children to feel more secure and safe, knowing what to expect. They also permit parental monitoring of children’s moods, behavior, and activities, providing parents with insight into the emotional wellbeing of their children. When extended to neighbors and friends, family meals allow children to learn and appreciate social interactions, understand the importance of community, and experience different ideas while under the guidance of their parents. The family table is one of the very few places that children can observe their parents interact, negotiate, solve problems, express emotions and treat one another with respect. A child’s world is mostly spent with peers and teachers; the family table gives them a chance to see how adults interact and cooperate. With hectic family schedules and busy lives these days, you may never “find time” for this family tradition, however, you need to make time. Look at your calendar and book a date with your family for dinner. You won’t regret it. What is the meaning of Ash Wednesday?

Roman Catholic churches of the Latin Rite use this service to prepare church members to better appreciate the death and resurrection of Christ through self-examination, repentance, prayer, fasting, and self-denial. Ashes from the burned palms of the preceding year’s Palm Sunday are blessed. With these ashes, the priest marks a cross on the foreheads of worshipers, saying, “Remember, man, that dust thou art, and unto dust thou shalt return” (Genesis 3:19 KJV). Besides showing sorrow for their sins, those who honor Ash Wednesday add an additional meaning; the need to prepare for a holy death. Ash Wednesday is not specifically mentioned in the Bible, however, from Biblical times, sprinkling oneself with ashes has been a mark of sorrow for sin. Several times the Bible mentions people repenting in dust and ashes; for example: Mordecai (Esther 4:1), Job (Job 42:6), the inhabitants of Nineveh (Jonah 3:5-6), and Daniel (Daniel 9:3-4). Repentance in dust and ashes often was accompanied with fasting during Bible times. (bibleinfo.com)

Losing Weight

Mr. Johnson was overweight, so his doctor put him on a diet. He said, I want you to eat regularly for two days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for two weeks. The next time I see you, you should have lost at least five pounds. When Mr. Johnson returned, he shocked the doctor by having dropped almost twenty pounds. ”Why, that’s amazing” the doctor told him. You did this just by following my instructions? The slimmed down Mr. Johnson nodded. I’ll tell you, though, I thought I was going to drop dead that third day. From hunger, you mean. No, replied Mr. Johnson, from skipping.

Married Couple

An old man and woman were married for many years, even though they hated each other. Whenever there was a confrontation, yelling could be heard deep into the night. The old man would shout, “When I die, I will dig my way up and out of the grave and come back and haunt you for the rest of your life!” Neighbors feared him. They believed he practiced magic because of the many strange occurrences that took place in their neighborhood. The old man liked the fact that he was feared. To everyone’s relief, he died of a heart attack when he was 98. His wife had a closed casket at the funeral. After the burial, she went straight to the local bar and began to party as if there was no tomorrow. Her neighbors, concerned for her safety, asked “Aren’t you afraid that he may indeed dig his way out of the grave and haunt you for the rest of your life?” The wife put down her drink and said, “Let him dig. I had him buried face down. And I know he won’t ask for directions!” March 31st - Cesar Chavez Day

Plane Conversation

An atheist was seated next to a little girl on an airplane, and he turned to her and asked, “Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with a fellow passenger.” The little girl, who was drawing some pictures, replied to the total stranger, “What would you like to talk about?” “Oh, I don’t know,” said the atheist… “how about why there is no God, or no heaven or hell, or no life after death?” as he smiled smugly. “Okay… those could be interesting topics. But, first, let me ask you a question. A horse, a cow, and a deer, all eat the same stuff… grass. But, a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?” The atheist, visibly surprised by the little girl’s intelligence, thinks about it a moment and says, “Hmmm, I have no idea.” To which the little girl replied, “Do you really feel qualified to talk about God, Heaven or Hell, or life after death, when you obviously don’t know poop?” Never sing in the shower! Singing leads to dancing, dancing leads to slipping, and slipping leads to paramedics seeing you naked. So remember...Don’t sing!
