“The Paper With A Hometown Flavor” Prayer in School
As we know, most public schools have banned prayer, but I would say that fighting to have prayer in school is not as important as first making sure there’s prayer at home. This is not the greatest battle for Christians but the greatest battle is to pray to have this nation repent and to return “under God” instead of our own agendas actually being over God. Want to focus on prayer? Then read Nehemiah’s prayer for his nation; “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2nd Chron 7:14), however God warns, “if you turn aside and forsake my statutes and my commandments that I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, then I will pluck you up from my land that I have given you, and this house that I have consecrated for my name, I will cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples” (2nd Chron 7:19-20). If we as a nation begin to wonder why it seems God has removed His blessing on the nation and we ask, “What happened to God?,” they can see the answer in Scripture; “Because they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods and worshiped them and served them. Therefore he has brought all this disaster on them” (2nd Chorn 7:22). Today, our gods are our sports teams, jobs, possessions, or whatever else we put before God. It seems today that in our nation we are the center of the universe instead of God being in that rightful place. Everything in this nation seems to rotate around the mighty dollar, so it’s not in God we trust but in the greenbacks that “In God we Trust” is printed on. (Pastor Jack Wellman)
A Dog’s Last Will and Testament
Before humans die, they write their last Will & Testament, and give their home and all they have to those they leave behind. If, with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I’d ask.... To a poor and lonely stray I’d give: My happy home. My bowl, cozy bed, soft pillows and all my toys. The lap which I loved so much. The hand that stroked my fur and the sweet voice which spoke my name. I’d will to the sad scared shelter dog the place I had in my human’s heart, of which there seemed no bounds. So when I die please do not say, “I will never have a pet again, for the loss and pain is more than I can stand.” Instead go find an unloved dog; one whose life has held no joy or hope and give MY place to him. This is the only thing I can give...the love I left behind. A Strange Lady!
A very weird thing has happened. A strange old lady has moved into my house. I have no idea who she is, where she came from, or how she got in. I certainly did not invite her. All I know is that one day she wasn’t there, and the next day she was! She is a clever old lady and manages to keep out of sight for the most part, but whenever I pass a mirror, I catch a glimpse of her. And whenever I look in the mirror to check my appearance, there she is hogging the whole thing, completely obliterating my gorgeous face and body. This is very rude! I have tried screaming at her, but she just screams back. The least she could do is offer to pay part of the rent, but no. Every once in a while, I find a dollar bill stuck in a coat pocket, or some loose change under a sofa cushion, but it is not nearly enough. I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I think she is stealing money from me. I go to the ATM and withdraw $100, and a few days later, it’s all gone! I certainly don’t spend money THAT fast, so I can only conclude the old lady is pilfering from me. You’d think she would spend some of that money to buy wrinkle cream. And money isn’t the only thing I think she is stealing. Food seems to disappear at an alarming rate -- especially the good stuff like ice cream, cookies, and candy. She must have a real sweet tooth, but she’d better watch it, because she is really packing on the pounds. I suspect she realizes this, and to make herself feel better, she
is tampering with my scale to make me think I am putting on weight, too. For an old lady, she is quite childish. She likes to play nasty games, like going into my closets when I’m not home and altering my clothes so they don’t fit. And she messes with my files and papers so I can’t find anything. This is particularly annoying since I am extremely neat and organized. She has found other imaginative ways to annoy me. She gets into my mail, newspapers, and magazines before I do and blurs the print so I can’t read it. And she has done something really sinister to the volume controls on my TV, radio, and telephone. Now, all I hear are mumbles and whispers. She has done other things--like make my stairs steeper, my vacuum cleaner heavier and all my knobs and faucets harder to turn. She even made my bed higher so that getting into and out of it is a real challenge. Lately, she has been fooling with my groceries before I put them away, applying glue to the lids, making it almost impossible for me to open the jars. She has taken the fun out of shopping for clothes. When I try something on, she stands in front of the dressing room mirror and monopolizes it. She looks totally ridiculous in some of those outfits, plus, she keeps me from seeing how great they look on me. Just when I thought she couldn’t get any meaner, she proved me wrong. She came along when I went to get my picture taken for my driver’s license, and just as the camera shutter clicked, she jumped in front of me! I hope she never finds out where you live!

Do Wild Rabbits Eat Carrots?
Can wild rabbits eat carrots? Sure. Do they? No, not as their main food source. In fact, wild rabbits won’t gravitate towards any root fruits and vegetables. These all contain too much sugar. If the rabbit ate them but more than occasionally, they’d gain weight. That makes them even easier prey to faster predators that can outrace them. Another reason to avoid giving wild rabbits carrots? These animals have sensitive digestive systems. Carrots and other root vegetables don’t digest easily because they have little cellulose and a lot of complex carbohydrates. Getting too many root vegetables like carrots in a rabbit’s diet could cause runny stools at best and internal issues at worst. There’s yet a third reason to reconsider feeding wild rabbits any carrots. All that sugar could lead to tooth decay. What Do They Eat? If you have a wild rabbit on your property that you’re caring for, now you know that you shouldn’t offer them plates of carrots day after day. What can you give them instead? These animals will look for almost any green plants in sight, including conifer needles, buds, vegetable plants, flowers, clover, grasses, weeds, and wildflowers. They’re also impartial to tree bark and twigs, especially in the winter when a lot of greenery wilts or dies off. Wild rabbits favor hay if they can eat it, but they mostly survive off the foods above.
Lottery Winner
A sales rep. who was on business in New York City bought a lottery ticket. Unbelievably, before he was to return home, he learned that his numbers were drawn and that he had won $50 million dollars. Excitedly, he phoned his wife and said, “Honey, I just won $50 million dollars in the New York Lottery!! Start packing your bags!!” The wife was equally excited and began to scream and yell. “What kind of clothes should I pack? Summer clothes, or winter clothes?” “It really doesn’t matter.” the husband replied. “Just be gone by the time I get home!” PAINTING BY ART - STAINING AND PAINTING done at affordable rates, personal service with 18 years experience, call for free estimate, Gardnerville (775)392-3997 FOUR SUNMODULE PLUS SW 250 POLY SOLAR panels, 39.5x66” charge/load controller 3000 W. Rock and Roll
When Alan Freed, a disc jockey, heard the song “My Baby Rocks me with a Steady Roll”, he developed the phrase rock and roll, which refers to one of the most popular and influential genre of music in the 1950s. Rock and roll evolved in the United States in the early 1950s and quickly spread to the rest of the world. Rock and roll is not only just a musical style but it has also influenced lifestyles, fashion, attitudes and languages. When Billy Haleys “Rock around the clock” came out in 1955, it was considered the first rock and roll song. Immediately, the new musical style became most appealing to teenagers in the 1950s because it gave them their own special identity and voice. Also, teens were strongly attracted to the good looks and sexual appeal of the artists and the music. Another reason rock and roll spread so quickly was because of the advancement in technology. Electric guitars could play music louder and recording studios used the latest technology to improve the sound on radios and record players everywhere. Television also influenced the spread of rock and roll. American Bandstand was a daily afternoon show that launched the careers of rock and roll legends. Rock and roll appeared at a time when racial tensions in the United States were coming to the surface. Blacks were facing discrimination and segregation in schools and public facilities. The upcoming of rock and roll provoked strong and mixed reactions in the United States because it combined the styles of both white and black music. The new music style was sense of equality for the African Americans. In fact, black artists started to become more popular in the mid 1950s.

Husbands Sneaking Home
While leaving a poker party that lasted much longer than it was supposed to, as usual, two friends compared notes. “I can never fool my wife,” the first complained. “I turn off the car engine and coast into the garage, take off my shoes, sneak upstairs, and undress in the bathroom. But she always wakes up and yells at me for being out so late and leaving her alone.” “You’ve got the wrong technique, my friend,” his buddy replied. “I roar into the garage, slam the door, stomp up the steps, rub my hand on the wife’s bottom, and ask, ‘How bout a little romance?’ and she pretends to be asleep.” MARCIA’S DOG WALKING SERVICE. There was a time when our children stood at attention, and with pride, put their hand on their heart, and in one UNITED voice, recited the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE. There was a time when STRENGTH and HONOR meant something. There was a time when standing for our FLAG meant something. There was a time when our history (heritage) was taught with PRIDE and RESPECT. There was a time when respect was given to those who serve(d), bled, and died to protect and defend our FREEDOM. There was a time when we were GRATEFUL. There was a time when our ACCOMPLISHMENTS meant something. There was a time when these UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, was UNITED. There was a time when these UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, was UNITED UNDER THE AMERICAN FLAG. A FLAG THAT WAS CARRIED IN BATTLE BY BRAVE PATRIOTS AS A SYMBOL OF FREEDOM & JUSTICE FOR ALL NO MATTER RACE, RELIGION, OR BACKGROUND. A BEACON OF HOPE WHEN FLOWN.A MARK OF RESPECT TO THEIR MEMORY TO THOSE WHO WILLFULLY SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES TO DEFEND. There was a time when, WE, THE PEOPLE, decided our future. There was a time when, WE, THE PEOPLE, had a voice. There was a time when, WE, THE PEOPLE, were UNITED and STRONG. There was a time when the media was free from political bias [and corruption]. Life before the Internet/Social Media
Amazon was just a river. You taped music off the radio. You had to leave the house to socialize. Encyclopedias, the Library, and Encarta ‘95 was Google. Web design was exclusive to Arachnids. Wasting time in the office was more conspicuous. Social media posts were actually posted on a real wall. Mobile gaming was very different indeed. Did we mention things called books? Multiplayer games needed a table. Trolls were mythical creatures. People used to send letters not emails. Selfies in the 90’s required sophisticated tech. Sierra Scoop - 775-782-4520

“The Paper With A Hometown Flavor” Women over 60
As I grow in age, I value women over 60 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why: A woman over 60 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, ‘What are you thinking?’ She doesn’t care what you think. If a woman over 60 doesn’t want to watch the game, she doesn’t sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it’s usually more interesting. Women over 60 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won’t hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it. Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it’s like to be unappreciated. Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 60. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 60 is far sexier than her younger counterpart. Older women are forthright and honest.. They’ll tell you right off if you are a jerk, if you are acting like one. You don’t ever have to wonder where you stand with her. Yes, we praise women over 60 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it’s not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 60, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize. (By Andy Rooney) RUGER 38 SPECIAL +P 5 SHOT REVOLVER, LIKE new, in box $380; Ruger 9mm P-85 $350 (775)450-5621
Fallen...
There’s this old priest who got sick of all the people in his parish who kept confessing to adultery. One Sunday, in the pulpit, he said, “If I hear that word one more time, I’ll quit!” Everyone liked him, so they came up with a code word. Someone who had committed adultery would say they had “fallen.” This seemed to satisfy the old priest and things went well, until the priest died at a ripe old age. About a week after the new priest arrived, he visited the mayor of the town and seemed very concerned. The priest said, “You have to do something about the roads and sidewalks in town. When people come into the confessional, they keep talking about having fallen.” The mayor started to laugh, realizing that no one had told the new priest about the code word. Before the mayor could explain, the priest shook an accusing finger at the mayor and said, “I don’t know what you’re laughing about, your own wife fell three times this week already, and your daughter fell twice!” ACME BOAT & RV STORAGE – RESIDENT MANAGER, fenced, lighted, lowest rates around, Gardnerville (775)2654766 NEVADA CCW CLASSES $50, EMAIL tacaimnv@gmail. com or call (775)360-5214 LIBERTY 30 GUN SAFE WITH DOOR PANEL E-LOCK, made in the U.S.A., $600 OBO, Charlie/Gardnerville (760)784-1072

Getting Married
A senior citizen said to his eighty-year old buddy: ‘So I hear you’re getting married?’ ‘Yep!’ ‘Do I know her?’ ‘Nope!’ ‘This woman, is she good looking?’ ‘Not really.’ ‘Is she a good cook?’ ‘Naw, she can’t cook too well.’ ‘Does she have lots of money?’ ‘Nope! Poor as a church mouse.’ ‘Well, then, is she romantic?’ ‘I don’t know.’ ‘Why in the world do you want to marry her then?’ ‘Because she can still drive!’

About Cloth Face Coverings
A cloth face covering may not protect the wearer, but it may keep the wearer from spreading the virus to others. COVID-19 spreads mainly from person to person through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice (e.g., while shouting, chanting, or singing). These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Recent studies show that a significant portion of individuals with COVID-19 lack symptoms (are “asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (are “pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms.
To reduce the spread of COVID-19, CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings when around people outside of their household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. Cloth face coverings may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others. Wearing a cloth face covering will help protect people around you, including those at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and workers who frequently come into close contact with other people (e.g., in stores and restaurants). Cloth face coverings are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings. The spread of COVID-19 can be reduced when cloth face coverings are used along with other preventive measures, including social distancing, frequent handwashing, and cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces. The cloth face coverings recommended here are not surgical masks or respirators. Currently, those are critical supplies that should be reserved for healthcare workers and other first responders. Cloth face coverings are not personal protective equipment (PPE). They are not appropriate substitutes for PPE such as respirators (like N95 respirators) or medical facemasks (like surgical masks) in workplaces where respirators or facemasks are recommended or required to protect the wearer. After the Great Depression in the 30’s and early 40’s, America was ready to rebuild and reconstruct the life around them. Birthrates had dropped dramatically during the Great Depression because people saw no reason to have any more children. They had to keep up with those that they already did have and continue feeding them and keeping their needs met. It was the exact opposite in the 50s when the birthrates dramatically increased. The soldiers had just come home from war in Europe and were eager to start a new life. They were bursting with pride and victory from their success in World War I and this caused the marriage rate in 1946 to rise to 2.3 million. There was also a desire to have large families. The birthrate, accordingly, went up too. Within one year, 1947, a record 3.8 million babies was born. A baby was born every 7 seconds. The late 40s and all of the 50s marked the Baby Boom era. There were some other positive effects of the Baby Boom as well. In order to keep up with all of the babies in the Baby Boom, more products had to be produced. Food, clothing, diaper and toy sales went up dramatically. So apparently, the Baby Boom not only raised the population, but the economy as well. As happy as all of this seems, some people also worried about the negative effects of the Boom. Since all of those children had been born, all of them had to go to school. More children meant teacher and classroom shortages, not to mention the crowding of the schools as well. Ten million students entered into elementary schools in the 1950s alone. There was also a worry about food and whether or not the farmers and other growers would be able to keep up with all the hungry mouths to feed in the country. The younger generation was increasing while the older generation was decreasing. With that mothers and wives were too. More women were becoming mothers and along with that, came the expectations of motherhood roles, such as cooking and cleaning house. Instead, a lot of women opted for working at a job, which meant not being able to stay at home all the time. Men had the same problem, too. Some people like the author, Philip Wylie said, “American men are lousy fathers”. He said that most American families are without a male role model at home. “There are 168 hours in a week. The average man spends about 40 of them at work. Allow another 15 hours for commuting time, lunch, overtime, etc. Then, set aside 56 hours each night, for sleep.” (Philip Wylie) He felt that children were being deprived of a dad. Also, many women weren’t at home all the time, either. They were considered to be neglecting their husbands and most importantly, their children. They were criticized of endangering their family, and the Life magazine said about wives, “They should use their minds in every conceivable way…so long as their primary focus of interest and activity is the home.” (Life Magazine) It seems as though the generations have kept on growing and growing. The baby boomers were born and the nation was shocked at how much they consumed. Then they began to have children of their own and the population kept on growing. The Baby Boom of the 50s also alerted people about how big the country was getting. One moment, the country is in its death throes with the Great Depression and people are ending their lives and realizing the grim future ahead. The next moment, The Great Depression is gone and WWII is finally over, more lives are being produced and the future looks bright.

Amy and Susan both live an average life. They have an average house, an average job, and an average partner and average kids. There is really nothing special about their lives, but there is also nothing really negative about their lives. They both lead perfectly normal existences. And while Amy and Susan are both content, it always seems that Amy was happier than Susan. Whenever Susan comes to visit Amy seems careless and happy. It always looks like nothing can trouble her. She is the light of the party, always wears a big smile on her face and always incredible attentive. Susan can rarely stop thinking about this. How is Amy so happy when they both lead such similar lives? They go to the same grocery store, watch the same movies, even have incredibly similar schedules! How is that Amy can be so carefree when life is so stressful? Between work, shopping, making dinner, thinking about what her boss wants, wondering when she will be promoted next, and having her own personal dreams, there is no way one can be so happy and stress free. There is always a million things going on. And whenever she asks Amy, Amy only says: “I just take life as it comes. Seems pretty easy then.” So what is the difference between these two friends? How is it that Amys life seems so much better most of the time? The problem with Susan is that she spreads herself too thin, not in terms of what she physically does, but more so in her own head. While she tries to do everything at once, think about everything at once, Amy takes everything one step at a time. She is where she is, stays present in the moment and allows herself to be only focused on one thing at a time. And that is all there’s to it. When you live each moment to its fullest, when you deal with where you are and are present in the now, 99.999999999% of all the stress will go away. “The Paper With A Hometown Flavor” The Story of Dr. Ernest Hand, Part 2 by Karen Dustman

Physician. Surgeon. Obstetrician. First responder. Ambulance driver. Back in the day, Gardnerville’s Dr. Ernest Hand did it all. Baby arriving? He’d come to your home for the delivery. Suffered a hunting accident out in the wilderness? He’d fight his way through the roughest territory to get to your side and render aid. Need an ambulance? He’d tote you piggyback out to his own Lincoln automobile, and then race for the hospital at Carson or Reno – without regard for posted speed limits. “Not to worry,” he’d say. “I used to be a race car driver.” Dr. Hand and his wife, Eleanor, arrived in Gardnerville in December, 1934, the year they were married. And for the next 23 years Dr. Hand would render expert, compassionate care to everyone in town, regardless of race, creed, color, or ability to pay. Born in Pennsylvania June 8, 1886, Dr. Hand put himself through Baltimore Medical College by working as a linotype operator for the Baltimore Sun. He started his medical career in New York in 1909, alternating private practice with a job as in-house physician for a company with 75,000 employees. He honed his medical skills in urology and dermatology. And perhaps more important for his future career, he also delivered some 5,000 babies – experience that would prove invaluable when he later arrived in Carson Valley. The good doctor not only loved medicine, he loved carpentry too. An excellent cabinet-maker, he helped build his own house on Douglas Avenue and made cabinets for his medical office. He also loved animals and gardening. In his off-hours (few as those were) he lovingly tended a garden and fruit trees by his home. He’d can and preserve the fruits and vegetable he grew, too. And oh, his work ethic! From 7 to 8 a.m. every morning Dr. Hand’s waiting room would be jammed with drop-in patients – no appointments needed. His office was right on Main Street just north of the Overland, where “Restyle” stands today. He’d treat everything from sniffles to gunshot wounds right there in his office. He made the drive to Carson City and Reno nearly every day to check on his patients in the hospital. And he also served as county health officer for both Douglas and Alpine Counties. Many Carson Valley residents still fondly remember Dr. Hand. “He was a happy ol’ guy — he looked like Santa Claus,” recalls one long-time local boy. “He had a belly, and white hair and glasses. He was very kind. And he would talk to you. One time as a kid I had pains every morning and my mom thought I just didn’t want to go to school. But there really was something wrong, and he figured it out.” “He was kinda like a miracle worker; it was like he had 48 hours in the day, not 24,” says another former patient. “Even after normal office hours, he’d go out and make house calls. And he’d still have just as much interest in you. It didn’t matter how late he’d been up the night before.” Medical care would often be simple but effective. “I fell once as a boy and broke my arm,” one local remembers. “Dr. Hand came up to the house and he just pulled on it to set it. You didn’t get pain shots for every little thing back then.” Watch for part 2, next month! Karen Dustman writes frequently about Sierra history, fascinating people, and long-forgotten tales. Find her books, blog and more cool stories at www.Clairitage.com. Newspaper reports offer a snapshot of the wide variety of ailments Dr. Hand was called upon to attend. He cared for the vic-

tim of a logging accident with major spinal injuries. He trekked six miles into the hills outside Markleeville to render aid to a teenager whose leg bone was shattered in a hunting accident. He administered polio shots to local school children, and treated a road worker with severe burns after the man’s oil-stained clothes caught on fire. And when floods closed local roads and prevented a pregnant military wife from reaching the base hospital in Hawthorne, Dr. Hand came to her home for the delivery – despite getting the call only hours before the baby arrived. Those who knew the good doctor still shrug and smile about his lead-footed driving. “I rode with him once for a trip to the hospital – he said he’d used to be a race car driver, but he was still a race car driver!” grins one former patient. “He would blow the wheels off that car!” confirms another. As luck would have it, it was the doctor’s own speedy driving that once led to a special kind of cure. A young child had gotten a small whistle stuck in his throat and Dr. Hand was, as usual, putting pedal to the metal to get the boy to the hospital for an operation. Suddenly another car cut in front of them. Dr. Hand slammed on his brakes and threw out his arm protectively to keep the young boy from falling forward. Lo and behold, that sudden jolt was just what the doctor ordered. The whistle was dislodged – and no operation was required! In 1950, Dr. Hand was lauded for his years of work by a grateful community. Donations totaling $1,000 had been taken up – enough to pay for a new incubator and a hospital room at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in honor of Dr. Hand. The doctor’s wife, too, received special thanks from the community for her “untiring assistance” to her husband – and no doubt her patience with
years of middle-of-the-night emergency phone calls. The community’s tribute came as a complete surprise to Dr. Hand. He was, as he put it, “too full for words.” Dr. Hand passed away on December 27, 1957 of a sudden heart attack, at the age of 71. He’d tended patients here in Carson Valley for 23 years. More than 800 mourners turned out to pay their respects at his funeral at Carson City’s civic auditorium. He was laid to rest at first in Lone Mountain Cemetery – but it wasn’t for long. In the summer of 1960, Dr. Hand’s family had his body moved and reburied at the Garden Cemetery in Gardnerville, the town he had lived in and served for so many years. If you visit, you can read his epitaph: “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Karen Dustman writes frequently about Sierra history, fascinating people, and long-forgotten tales. Birth control pills....
An elderly woman went into the doctor’s office. When the doctor asked why she was there, she replied, “I’d like to have some birth-control pills.” Taken aback, the doctor thought for a minute and then said, “Excuse me, Mrs. Smith, but you’re 72 years old. What possible use could you have for birth control pills?” The woman responded, “They help me sleep better.” The doctor thought some more and continued, “How in the world do birth control pills help you to sleep?” The woman said, “Simple. If you put a buzzard in a pen six or eight feet square and entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of his ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of ten or twelve feet. Without space to run, as is his habit, he will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top. The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkably nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash. A Bumblebee if dropped into an open tumbler, it will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself. In many ways, there are many people like the buzzard, the bat, and the bumblebee. They struggle about with all their problems and frustrations, not realizing that the answer is right there “above” them. ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A GREAT ESCAPE close to home? Husband’s temper
WINCHESTER PRE 64 MOD. 12 PUMP SHOTGUN, 12 gauge $475; 22 caliber semi. S/L/LR, nice condition $275 (775)450-3361
A woman goes to the Doctor, worried about her husband’s temper. The Doctor asks: “What’s the problem?” The woman says: “Doctor, I don’t know what to do. Every day my husband seems to lose his temper for no reason. It scares me.” The Doctor says: “I have a cure for that. When it seems that your husband is getting angry, just take a glass of water and start swishing it in your mouth. Just swish and swish but don’t swallow it until he either leaves the room or calms down.” Two weeks later the woman comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn. The woman says: “Doctor that was a brilliant idea! Every time my husband started losing it, I swished with water. I swished and swished, and he calmed right down! How does a glass of water do that?” The Doctor says: “The water itself does nothing. It’s keeping your mouth closed that does the trick.”

Just because you disagree with the politics or government of where you live, doesn’t mean you hate your country. The country is the people, the land, and the culture. That’s you! Not what’s in the media. Without the people, it would just be miles of nothingness. Try to be more specific when you’re talking about what you hate. If you were born here, then you should respect the place where you were born. If you are an immigrant, you should respect the country that took you in during your time of need and gave the chance for a better life, and the people who helped you learn about their culture. Appreciate that you live in a country with one of the highest living standards in the world. Most people here have all the basic necessities of life and lots more (phones, cars, televisions, houses bigger then their needs, etc.). We really are lucky to be born in a country with such rich resources. Also value all the great opportunities living here. If you work hard enough you can be anything you want. By not rising, or placing your hand on your heart when the anthem is played, you are showing disrespect towards the veterans, military, police, firefighters, and paramedics, and all that they’ve sacrificed to make your country a safer, better place to live. “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” --John F. Kennedy If you’re going to complain about your country, why do it with an intolerant attitude? At least, make your complaints civil. We live in a democratic republic, which means our nation is what we have made it. If you don’t like something about it, don’t blame your country. Respecting our nation shows that we have integrity and that we love our country. Many people just don’t realize how lucky we are to live in a country with so many liberties, liberties that a lot of people don’t have. (author unknown) WANTED TO RENT!
