IT'S YOU In March 2020, our world changed and Sid Jacobson JCC changed along with it. Our programs went virtual, our staff made home visits, our Community Needs Bank collected tons of clothing and essential supplies; all while our teachers taught online and our social workers connected with people in isolation.

Fast forward to October 2023 and our world changed once again. The brutal attack of a terrorist organization against Israeli border communities resulted in the loss of over one thousand Israeli civilians, with babies to grandmothers taken hostage. The attack, which included thousands of missiles launched at civilian centers throughout the country, sent shock waves into Jewish communities the world over, contending as well with a sharp rise in antisemitic incidents throughout the globe. The Jewish homeland was traumatized and a war of defense was launched leading to even greater loss and tragedy for innocents. Sid Jacobson JCC immediately launched a gathering of hundreds in solidarity with the plight of the fallen and the captured. We began a massive campaign to send tons of medical supplies to besieged Israeli communities and developed an emergency fund to pay for much needed resources throughout Israel.

What we also did was to double down on wellness, cultural, and educational programming to de-stress populations around us. The Dr. Gayle R. Berg Center for Psychological Resilience, see page 34, began working with staff of the Great Neck School System, Roslyn School District, and several JCCs to teach basic formulas for coping and tripled its programming in this new program year. Our Community Theatre, see page 9, is reaching new heights by delivering twenty performances each season. Friday Night Lights, see page 11, is providing wholesome, value-driven experiences and connections for 6th graders, all while a few thousand community members are working out, swimming, and taking personalized training sessions from brilliant JCC trainers, see page 13. Indeed, beyond our Randie Waldbaum Malinsky Center for Israel, see page 37, which provides programming in over forty institutions on Long Island, twenty-four separate departments of connection, help, wellness, warmth and love—yes, love, exist to embrace and engage our members and all the communities we serve. Why? Because in the end, we have to remember who we are, what we stand for, and what about us is worth fighting for. In my mind, in this house—in this community center, we are first and foremost a community that cares for itself and others. We are a people that value both physical and mental health, connection, and improving the world. And in my mind, in this house—in this community center, we care about you and yours.

And that, we will never stop fighting for.

MINI + JUNIOR MACCABI GAMES Ages: 9-12 years (as of April 30, 2024) The Mid-Atlantic Games are a great one-day introduction to the Maccabi experience with an opening ceremony and competitions!

MACCABI GAMES Ages: 12-16 years (as of July 30, 2024) Get involved in a unique social, cultural, and life-shaping experience! In addition to sports competitions, the six-day Olympic-style program includes opening and closing ceremonies, community service, and events.

Team LI: Jacobson is heading to Houston, Texas for the 2024 Maccabi + Access Games, August 4-9! Sports include baseball, basketball, flag football, tennis, swimming, table tennis, soccer, and volleyball.

MENTAL HEALTH + WELLNESS SUPPORT Our licensed social workers, where appropriate, refer individuals to short-term counseling offered by our on-site partner, Central Nassau Guidance and Counseling.

IN-HOUSE SUPPORT GROUPS Each group is facilitated by a licensed social worker and meets for 10 sessions.

ADULT CHILDREN BEREAVEMENT GROUP For those in their 20s, 30s, and 40s who have lost a parent.

DIVORCE AND SEPARATION GROUP For those newly divorced or separated.

SPOUSAL CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP For those with a spouse diagnosed with dementia, Parkinson’s, or another neurodegenerative illness. Young-onset caregiver support groups and older onset caregiver support groups also available.

ADULT CHILDREN CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP For those in their 20s and 30s with a parent diagnosed with dementia, Parkinson’s, or another neurodegenerative illness.

MOVING THROUGH BEREAVEMENT For those who have completed a minimum of one bereavement group semester.

PARTNER SUPPORT GROUP SPOUSAL BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TEMPLE BETH-EL OF GREAT NECK This group provides a safe and caring environment where individuals can connect with others while giving and gaining support.

Professionally facilitated by a licensed social worker to help community members navigate grief and find solace. Please call to confirm group schedules.
