Itake this opportunity to greet the principal, staff, students, parents and other stakeholders in the St. John’s College community in this graduation season.
Once again, another group of young people have reached a significant marker in their lives. It is a major milestone for you graduates because it represents the single greatest cumulative accomplishment of your lives thus far, and you are to be commended for same.
As you glory in this moment, please remember that there are many family members, school teachers and staff members and other individuals who have poured into your life to help you to reach this point. Remember too that you are at the end of one season and on the threshold of an even greater season, that is, the rest of your earthly lives.
Do not forget to honour your foundations and to seek to make parents, teachers and others proud by doing your best. As a product of St. John’s College, you are a part of the St. John’s Dynasty, and you have a part to play in the legacy that St. John’s will give to future generations.
Your theme, “We are a Dynasty, creating a Legacy with Endless Possibilities,” is therefore directly connected to you in that how you build on that foundation and the choices you make going forward all determine the identity, continued existence and contribution of St. John’s College.
My wife, Joann, joins me in offering congratulations to you and your families. May God’s holy name be praised.
Yours in Christ,

BISHOP

Members of the Class of 2018 you are to be commended for having successfully completed this phase of your education. We give thanks to Almighty God for St. John’s College’s latest Class of graduates. We thank him for your growth in knowledge, wisdom, understanding and your many achievements. We are also thankful that you have had the discipline and determination to endure the routine, tasks and rigours of school life.
Like other young people everywhere, each year’s graduates are full of high ideals lofty sentiments and aspirations. Your chosen theme: “We Are a Dynasty, Creating a Legacy with Endless Possibilities” speaks to that. Youth is a time for idealism and dreams. So it ought to be. “Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, / Or what’s a Heaven for?” wrote the poet Robert Browning. Your theme shares this ideal. You are confident that your foundation is sound and enduring. You have faith in your God-given gifts and talents to be engaged in meaningful action and you see a world and future before you without limits. You must not lose sight of your hopes and dreams as you move forward. I believe that the education you have received at St. John’s College will serve you well. Take pride in it. It is an Anglican education emphasizing faith, commitment, diligence and service.
Nothing lasting is achieved without consistent effort, hard work and determination. The dreams that you have must become reality. They will if you are willing to apply yourselves. I do hope and pray that you will achieve the success and legacy that you so dearly cherish. Not only must we think great things, but do them. A good education is the key, as well as setting high goals and the willingness to make the effort in the face of occasional and sometimes brutal defeat but continuing on, undaunted, to ascend the ladder of success.
As you move on to another stage in your life do not forget to say thanks to your parents and guardians, other family members, and friends, who have given you encouragement and support. Remember, too, your teachers who have imparted their knowledge, challenged you and have drawn the best out of you. They all want you to do well. Your alma mater desires the best for you. Our community will be proud of you if you adhere to your high principles and move towards your goals with determination, courage and faith. Remember our God is able to supply all your needs.
On behalf of the Anglican Central Education Authority I extend to you heartiest congratulations and our very best wishes.
Sincerely,

Very Reverend Patrick Adderley Chairman, Anglican Central Education Authority.

Iextend congratulations to the class of 2018 and celebrate your many accomplishments with you and your family. Your theme, “We are a dynasty creating a legacy with endless possibilities” is quite fitting.
You have persevered through twelve years of school and finally arrived at this long awaited GRADUATION DAY!!! On this momentous day, I am certain that you are filled with mixed emotions. The many teachers and friends you met along the way have made indelible marks in your memory. There are moments that you will not want to remember and some that you wish you could recreate. You would have spent long nights and countless hours completing assignments and coursework. There were many lessons, quizzes, essays, papers and exams that plagued you. No doubt you would have experienced many challenges and learnt how to overcome obstacles. These memories will be with you forever; they have shaped you and brought you here at this moment. As you graduate and join the legacy of St. John’s College scholars remember this is not the end but only the beginning; the door to new opportunities has just opened for you. You have worked hard to achieve your goals and now you are on your way to seek new vistas, dream new dreams, embrace life with passion and explore endless possibilities.
YOU will now be counted among the thousands of alumni of this great institution! You all proudly stand on the shoulders of the GIANTS who have gone before you who have influenced and continue to make their mark on our society and the wider world. Today you are a step closer to realizing your dream and will soon be reaping the fruits of your hard work. “But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. You can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.” Mark 11:23-24 As this chapter ends and the next begins, follow your dreams and stay true to yourself. Always remember your past and acknowledge that you could not have done it without the help of God. Before you act, listen. Before you react, think. Before you spend, earn. Before you criticize, wait. Before you pray, forgive. Before you quit, try. You have been a part of the rich heritage of St. John’s College built on the Anglican ethos. Your time as a student of this school has inculcated positive qualities of character that fostered self-discipline, integrity, good citizenship, mental and physical fortitude, and the discovery and development of passion. The education you gained is the key which unlocks all your potential. Remember that you are blessed beyond measure because you are fearfully and wonderfully made – you are capable of achieving whatever you set your mind to do. I encourage you to be brave and step out in faith. All things are possible – the world is waiting – GO FOR IT!
Respice, Adspice, Prospice!
Blessings,

Italia Davies Director of Education
Dear Class of 2018,
On this your graduation day, I feel immensely proud of everyone and thankful for the opportunity to have served you all. I have known most of you from you were in primary school playing hide & seek “in the woods”. You have grown up over the years and you were anxious that this day, Graduation Day would never come. Congratulations, you made it!
Over these many years, you have embraced opportunities in academics, athletics, the arts, extracurricular activities, clubs and community service. All of these areas offered rewarding opportunities for you to grow and mature into well-rounded and happy young adults.
Allow me to take this opportunity to thank your wonderful parents, who gave the faculty and staff of St. John’s College, the opportunity to provide you with a solid foundation of knowledge and to instill within you fine character traits which will allow you to make wise choices and create the best future for your lives.
The real power of creating and being responsible for your own future is unlimited. From now on, you choose your tertiary path, the courses you will take, the lectures you will attend, how hard you study, your career, your partner and the place or places you will live. My prayer for you is that you will create a future that you are passionate about.
Graduates, hard work is not over. In fact, “you’ve only just begun”. It is just a short break before you enter a new phase of your life; be it tertiary education or the world of work. Be encouraged by the advice given by the American philosopher and poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” Remember, as Giants, “If opportunity does not knock, build a door”. (Milton Berle)
Graduates, do some wonderful, remarkable, and positive things with your life; Things that will make you, your family, and your country proud. Return to your Alma Mata, share your experiences and talents: Inspire others.

Praise To The Lord The almighty
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise him, for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, Now to his temple draw near; Joining in glad adoration.
Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth,
Shieldeth thee gently from harm, or when fainting sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen?
How thy hearts wishes have been Granted in what He ordaineth?
Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
Surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend thee; Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do, If to the end He befriend thee.
