Welcome Dear Reader, In December 2023 at COP28UAE, leaders from across all our companies came together to launch Sidara. That pivotal moment united our global community once again under a renewed mission to elevate the human experience, advance sustainability, ignite transformation through innovation, and advocate for a world that feels more like home, for everyone, everywhere.

United, we blend global expertise with deep local roots to provide innovative solutions to even the most complex engineering and design challenges. We lead with imagination, commitment, determination and resilience, accelerated by collaboration and with sustainability and digital innovation at our heart. Talal Shair

Sidara Chairman and CEO

2024 Annual Report

And we began that mission within our own home — through the most critical and comprehensive evaluation yet of our impacts: covering everything from the footprints of our operations to the handprints of our projects. These evaluations were compiled and shared in Sidara’s first annual report, published in December 2023. One year on, our 2024 Annual Report narrates our ongoing efforts to reflect on, evaluate, and enhance our processes, operations, and services. In that time, our Digital and Sustainability Councils developed a data portal that enables every part of our business — more than 300 offices around the world — to record performance across multiple sustainability metrics.

With this portal, we have elevated the quality of our data, which empowers us to make smarter decisions, discover best practices, spotlight lessons learned, and identify opportunities to more fully live up to our mission. Building on this data, the 2024 Annual Report shares progress through three lenses — People, Planet, and Governance — supported by metrics, case studies, and stories from across Sidara. These stories go beyond numbers to provide snapshots of an ambitious and dynamic global collaborative — of businesses that have continued to thrive, with growing revenues driven by greater collaboration and continued strategic diversification across markets and geographies.

And from building bridges serving vulnerable communities in Rwanda to modernizing Buffalo’s water infrastructure to supporting Shanghai’s first near zero development, we have the continued privilege of supporting communities globally as we collectively seek to create a more beautiful and welcoming world, for everyone. I hope that these stories and this journey may inspire you to join our mission. Talal Shair Sidara Chairman and CEO

150 Holborn, a physical showcase of our identity as a home for human endeavor has captured imaginations as one of London’s smartest and most sustainable buildings, as an engine of innovation, and as a space for global conversations and summits, such as the World Green Building Council’s 2024 Leadership Summit and much more.

Report Structure Our second annual report covers our activities within the 2023 financial year. It builds upon our first annual report that we released in December 2023 at COP28 in Dubai. The Overview section of this report outlines Sidara’s activities, the services we offer, and the markets in which we operate. It explains how our brands are organized within five Pillars. The Sustainability section summarizes our progress towards realizing our sustainability goals and delivering on our commitments. More detailed updates on our progress are then presented in subsequent sections on People, Planet and Governance. The impact of our activities is illustrated for Sidara and each of our five organizational Pillars using the footprint and handprint concept — addressing both our direct impacts, and the influence that we have through projects delivered for our clients. We track performance across 16 sustainability dimensions, which were identified through a materiality assessment. In this report we continue to disclose performance against Global Reporting Initiative metrics that span environmental, social and governance aspects. Supporting data is provided within the Metrics & Data chapter within the Appendix, where you will also find details on methodology, and a glossary of terms. You can access more detailed information by clicking on hyperlinks throughout this report.

Net Zero Carbon

UN Global Compact

The Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are a primary vehicle for corporate delivery on gender equality dimensions of the 2030 agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The World Green Building Council’s (WorldGBC) Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment recognizes and promotes advanced climate leadership action from businesses, organizations, cities and subnational governments in decarbonizing the built environment, to inspire others to take similar action and remove barriers to implementation.

The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility initiative, with more than 25,000 corporate participants and other stakeholders in 167 countries.

Sidara’s sustainability strategy is based on a common purpose and shared commitments. Sidara are signatories to the Women’s Empowerment Principles and all eligible companies within Sidara are signatories to the World Green Building Council’s Net Zero Carbon Commitment. These commitments to people and planet align with the two focus areas which emerged strongly from our 2022 materiality work: greenhouse gas emissions, and diversity, equity and inclusion. Our approach to governance is informed by Dar’s longstanding commitment to the ten principles of the UN Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption.

Pillar Commitments In addition to our shared commitments, our Pillars and brands undertake sector-specific commitments that relate to their operations. Further details of these commitments can be found on their individual websites.

2024 Annual Report

By joining the WEPs community, Sidara signals its commitment to this agenda at the highest levels of the organization, and to work collaboratively in multi-stakeholder networks to foster business practices that empower women. These include equal pay for work of equal value, gender-responsive supply chain practices and zero tolerance against sexual harassment in the workplace. Sidara at WEPs.org

Introba were founding signatories of the commitment in 2018, to be joined by Dar, Perkins&Will and Currie & Brown in 2021, and TYLin in 2023. Sidara’s groupwide Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment forms the basis of our approach to achieving net zero Scope 1 +2 greenhouse gas emissions from our operations. Sidara’s Commitment at WorldGBC.org

The UN Global Compact is a principlebased framework for businesses, stating ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption. A participant since 2018, Dar communicates progress and reaffirms its commitment to the principles annually. This commitment strongly informs Sidara’s wider approach to governance and the thoughtful application of the UN Sustainable Development Goals to both our operational footprint and societal handprint. Impact, Influence & Materiality Footprint & Handprint Through a materiality assessment, we concluded that our impact has two aspects: Footprint: to be a ‘good householder’ and take responsibility for the impact of our operations. This we refer to as our ‘footprint’ and includes things like resource use and waste and emissions. Handprint: as businesses focused on consultancy services within the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry, we recognize that our greatest opportunity to have a positive impact is through the projects we touch. Throughout this report, we refer to examples of both our organizational footprint and the handprint we create through our work.

Materiality A materiality assessment was carried out in 2023 using the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) complete list of topics as a structure. Through a series of workshops with champions across all Pillars, the indicators that matter the most to Sidara were identified.

Tracking Progress Target Setting Our sustainability program uses an “outcomesbased approach”. This identifies a desired end state, outlines how each aspect of this end state can be measured, and establishes targets and timeframes for achievement for each aspect. Recognizing that both internal and external circumstances evolve and shift over time, we have also set short- and mid-term targets as checkpoints, giving us a basis to recalibrate to keep our strategy relevant. These are summarized within the Planet, People and Governance Roadmaps within the Appendix.

Data Collection Since our last annual report, we have invested significantly in the development of a data portal to collect, monitor and analyze data from our businesses across our chosen GRI metrics. The data portal enables performance to be tracked down to the level of the office or business and aggregated at Pillar, region and whole Sidara levels.

2024 Annual Report

We gather data on: – – – – – –

Energy Consumption Energy Use Intensity Greenhouse Gas Emissions Staff Diversity by Gender, Age and Ethnicity Training and Education Health Safety and Wellbeing.

Data Verifiication For our processes to be both robust and credible, we engage a third party to advise the team at key points in the process to provide a critical review overall, and to specifically advise on risks, and assess any gaps. In 2023, PwC was engaged to undertake a maturity review which recommended that we focus on data quality for our 2024 annual report. During 2024 we have worked with EY to further assist us in aligning our processes with best practices.

Looking Forward

Staff Diversity (Gender) - By Pillar Women

All companies within Sidara are dedicated to fostering and maintaining a workplace that is diverse, inclusive, and provides equitable opportunities for all.

Gender Diversity across Sidara We have seen an increase in the percentage of women across the organization from 25.2% for 2022 to 28.2% in 2023.

We strive to nurture a culture of respect and a sense of belonging across our companies globally.

Gender Diversity by Region North America, LATAM, Middle East and Africa increased their percentage of women employees in 2023, with Africa showing the largest increase of ten percentage points.

Our long-term goal of achieving gender equality within governance bodies, requires actively building a diverse pipeline of talent for the future. The Sidara Leadership Institute, launched in 2024, is a key component in our strategy to nurture this pipeline.

Gender Diversity Sidara operates in sectors that are carbonintensive and traditionally male-dominated. To accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future we need diversity of voices at every table. Gender equality and decarbonization go hand in hand. Our support for the Women’s Empowerment Principles publicly affirms Sidara’s commitment to foster business practices that empower women and advance gender equality.

International Women’s Day 2024 Overview

Impact

International Women’s Day (IWD), marked annually on March 8, celebrated the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and calls for action to accelerate equality.

Celebrating and increasing visibility of women’s achievements can help forge equality. Strategic collaborations based on a foundation of shared purpose, trust, and appreciation can impact positive change for women.

Why it matters The theme on IWD 2024 was Inspiring Inclusion to help drive progress for women’s equality. When women are inspired to be included, a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment is created.

What we learned Engagement data and anecdotal feedback showed that our IWD activities add value, helping to enable a better future.

What we did

“I was thinking about how great today was and what else we can do to keep the conversation moving.”

Building on the success and high levels of engagement from last year’s IWD events, Currie & Brown adopted a multi-channel approach to enable people to celebrate IWD in different ways around the world.

“It was nice to have a chance to reflect on the incredible strength and resilience of women throughout history.”

Activities included a group photo collage; a KnowHow page; five regional plans; webinars in 4 regions. In addition, Currie & Brown hosted an informal panel session over brunch at 150 Holborn. Panel members included colleagues from Perkins&Will, Dar and Introba. A fundraiser and soft skills development workshop was also organized for the Charity Dress for Success.

Training & Education Our Goals All Sidara employees have access to learning resources and clear career paths for professional and personal development.

Tracking Performance We are aligning our data collection around GRI 404 Training and Education, which includes the following metrics: – Average hours of training per year per employee – Programs for upgrading employee skills and transition assistance programs – Percentage of employees receiving regular performance and career development reviews For FY2022, an average of 8.5 hours per employee was recorded for training. However, it was also found that the actual hours toward training may potentially be underreported. To address this, during 2024 we worked with human resource teams across Sidara to design the data portal to support greater detail in tracking hours spent on training which directly contribute to the career development of our people.

Due to this process improvement, the accuracy of the capture of data on training has improved, and for FY2023 we are recording an average of 15.9 hours per employee. This metric excludes Penspen, who were unable to report data for 2023 owing to a change in platform.

Energy & Emissions Our Goals

This progress has delivered:

The overarching goal for Sidara is to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions. Our 2023 goal was to achieve ‘best’ level of data quality for all data points in the energy use and emissions focus area.

– Improved data quality – Insights for all Pillars about GHG emissions across their locations – Increased awareness of energy efficiency

Our Zero Carbon Commitment In line with our World Green Building Council (WGBC) Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment we monitor and evaluate greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) stemming from the buildings associated with our operational activities.

Sidara’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment 1

Commit

Commit to operating all new and existing buildings within organizations’ direct control at net zero carbon, achieving maximum reductions of embodied carbon, and compensating any residual emissions in new developments and major renovations by 2030. Support all companies within Sidara to achieve the same.

2

Disclose

Annually measure, assess, and disclose the Sidara portfolio’s energy consumption and carbon emissions, to include Scope 1 and 2. For any newly built asset or major renovation, Sidara will complete whole lifecycle analysis for embodied carbon reduction.

3

Act

Implement a decarbonization roadmap that outlines a reduction-first approach, improving energy efficiency and securing renewable energy. Maximize the reduction of embodied carbon for any new developments or major renovations, compensating for all residual upfront embodied carbon emissions. Support Sidara in implementing energy conservation measures, procuring renewable energy and offsets, and procuring low-carbon materials for new assets or major refurbishments under direct operational and financial control.

4

Verify

Undertake independent third-party verification of energy performance and associated carbon emissions for assets and portfolios under direct financial and operational control. For the whole lifecycle, verify embodied carbon reduction to market baseline requirements upon building a new asset for own use or undertaking any major refurbishment to existing assets under direct control.

5

Advocate

Advocate in client engagements by promoting a low-embodied carbon approach and net zero carbon pathways; internally through efforts like Sidara’s Sustainability Council, and with industry partners by advancing thought leadership on sustainable infrastructure.

Enhanced Data Collection As an occupier of leased real estate, we face ongoing challenges in collecting data from asset operators which results in the use of benchmark data where performance data is not available (see Methodology). In 2023 we have reduced our reliance on benchmark data from 85.1% to 23.3% of our occupied floor area. In 2023, Dar became the first Sidara Pillar to collect 100% measured energy consumption data across its locations. 2024 Annual Report

For this year’s report, we have upgraded to using actual data from utility bills wherever possible. This has shifted the data set to a predominantly performance basis, making comparisons to 2022’s benchmark data not an equivalent comparison. This will be less of a factor as we continue to close the gap in the 2024 data set.

Our Action Plan – Continue to reduce the reliance on benchmarking for calculation of our Scope 1 + 2 emissions – Investigate locations reporting out of range performance to better understand causes and explore mitigation measures. – Share our lessons learned internally through the Sidara Sustainability Council to accelerate our rate of reduction. – Communicate our lessons learned with our clients through our services.

150 Holborn – The Smart Story Overview

What we did

Opened in January 2023, 150 Holborn in London is a showcase for Sidara’s companies with operations in the UK.

150 Holborn uses Schneider Electric’s latest Smart Building EcoStruxure Control System, designed to be flexible in its approach to how the building can be managed and operated. It supports collaboration, sustainability, productivity, well-being and its scalable foundations provide future proofing for prudent energy use.

By co-locating our goal is to create new opportunities to connect our people, increase collaboration, and grow revenues. Designed and delivered collaboratively by Perkins&Will, Introba, Dar, Maffeis Engineering, PARA, and Currie & Brown, 150 Holborn is a highly efficient building, featuring advanced smart sensors to monitor energy use and occupancy.

Why it matters 150 Holborn’s smart technology learns from every person who walks through its doors, whether that be for an event we are hosting, a building tour, or a normal day of work. The PARA OS digital twin uses sensors to measure energy usage and gather data on space utilization. This allows continuous optimization of environmental performance over time and enhanced occupant comfort, supporting Sidara’s sustainability principles, and enabling measurable performance efficiencies, improvements, and savings over time.

Water Our Goals

Water Stress

Water is an essential resource, but in many countries where we operate, business cases for conservation and efficiency are challenging.

In preliminary climate-related risk assessments, we have looked at countries that anticipate future water stress. Places in which we currently operate and need to anticipate water stress issues include:

Despite this commercial context, we acknowledge the need to monitor our consumption of this resource in the same way as we do energy. Water stress is an issue in many places where we work globally, and we anticipate it to be an increasing point of climate-related risk.

Improved Data Collection Since over 90% of our offices are leased assets, we are largely dependent on our landlords to provide data on water consumption. We therefore do not have direct access to a full set of water utility bills or tenancy level water metering across our operations. As part of a data collection pilot for 2023 we succeeded in collecting performance data for water consumption across 30% of our occupied floor area, a proportion that we aim to increase year on year.

Innovation Highlights Hydrogen Pipeline Toolkit

Bridge Monitoring

Digital Twins

Science Center at Barnard College

Penspen is investing in its Pipeline Integrity Management Solution, THEIA, to incorporate a ‘Hydrogen Toolkit’ that will help manage the integrity of pipelines looking to adopt hydrogen.

TYLin and Dar have collaborated to design a cutting-edge tool for bridge monitoring, offering pre-emptive maintenance insights and decisionmaking capabilities.

PARA OS – Sidara’s digital twin and building analytics platform – has been awarded the firstever Smart Systems Rating by UL Solutions, a global leader in applied safety science.

Perkins&Will, TYLin, and Introba have partnered on this project, which will create the first zero operational carbon-ready academic science building in New York City.

One of the biggest challenges integrity engineers face is the ongoing maintenance of their assets. To enable the energy transition existing fossil fuel pipelines and assets will need to be rehabilitated and extended to handle and transport hydrogen. This creates a demand for tools that help engineers mitigate risks that arise from this change. THEIA is developing the capability to run complex risk assessments securely, providing predictive or real-time information and analysis to enable pipeline operators to manage their assets with confidence.

Powered by digital twin technology, the platform provides real-time analysis of bridge behavior through the integration of 3D modelling, IoT sensors, AI, analytics, and simulation capabilities. The process of maintaining bridges is costly and manual inspections are time- and laborintensive. The Sidara model can dramatically reduce these barriers by predicting issues, suggesting repairs in advance, and monitoring ongoing changes in environmental conditions. The fully-automated process even pre-emptively assesses a bridge’s response to extreme weather, identifying vulnerabilities before incidents occur.

PARA OS is a customizable single-platform solution for sustainability management, energy intelligence and optimization, fault detection and diagnostics, condition-based maintenance, intelligent asset management, and real-time portfolio views for building and infrastructure assets. Leveraging cognitive analytics powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence, PARA OS integrates data from across the built environment, empowering decision makers to strategically manage and optimize their assets, for greater efficiency, cost effectiveness, and sustainability.

Interventions include a high-performance glazing, bio-climatic space and green roofs, optimized HVAC systems, and an activated streetscape and landscape at the campus level. The reuse of the concrete structure and limestone façade of the existing Altschul Hall reduces the overall embodied carbon of the project by 52%.

New York Climate Change Week

Reimagining Vancouver’s Waterfront

As one of the leading sponsors of COP28 UAE, Dar supported the Resilience Hub (the home of the UNbacked Race to Resilience campaign) as well as the Buildings Pavilion hosted by the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction.

150 Holborn welcomed international leaders in sustainable building and construction.

As part of Climate Week NYC 2024, Sidara companies TYLin, Introba, Perkins&Will and Currie & Brown came together to host a day-long Sustainable Cities Summit in conjunction with Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso.

Redeveloping Vancouver’s Waterfront Station is key to addressing the region’s need to address congestion, improve mobility, achieve sustainable growth and develop resilient urban infrastructure.

Dar was also one of the major sponsors of the Green Zone, hosting its own net-zero Dar Pavilion in the Energy Transition Hub. Dar, alongside other Sidara companies, presented collaborative research on sustainability in the built environment, sharing insights on: – – – – –

Infrastructure for future flight Removing carbon from healthcare Mobility planning and infrastructure renewal for zero emissions transportation Decarbonizing data centers Hydrogen futures – designing for zero-emissions fuels in the built environment

Part of London Climate Action Week in June 2024, the summit brought together leaders in sustainable building and construction from 54 countries around the world, representing over 4 billion people – half of the world’s population. They came to discuss how to better align industry, policymakers and the finance community in the pursuit of a more sustainable built environment. 150 Holborn – currently on track to achieve both BREEAM Outstanding and LEED Platinum ratings – provided a fitting backdrop to the summit as an exemplar of sustainable design and integration of smart technologies.

Hosted at Brooklyn Borough Hall, high-profile speakers included leaders from both public and private sectors, as well as experts from across Sidara. The day’s focus was on implementable solutions that move the dial in making New York a more sustainable, healthier place to live, work and do business. Sessions addressed sustainable mobility and transit policy, decarbonizing cities, net-zero schools, and minimizing the carbon footprint of data centers.

Methodology Risk & Materiality Assessment

Data Collection

Since there was no significant changes to the operating exposures of Sidara’s companies over the year since our initial risk and materiality assessments were undertaken, these remain unchanged from our 2023 annual report, which provides a detailed summary of the outputs from this process.

The Sidara ESG data collection process bridged across eight (8) central environmental metrics addressing the topics of energy, emissions, refrigerants, water, waste, business travel, employee commute and supply chain ; six (6) central Social metrics addressing the topics of diversity, remuneration, turnover, health & wellbeing, training, and community impacts; and six (6) Governance metrics addressing the topics of governing body diversity, policies, structures, economics, commitments, and risk.

The 9 GRI metrics against which we report progress are based on this assessment, augmented by the requirements of sustainability linked loans (SLLs), the first of which being arranged between Sidara and Emirates NBD in January 2024. These indicators include energy, emissions, diversity and inclusion, local community, and economic performance: GRI 201 GRI 205 GRI 302 GRI 305 GRI 401 GRI 403 GRI 404 GRI 405 GRI 413

Economic Performance Anti-Corruption Energy Emissions Employment Occupational Health & Safety Training and Education Diversity and Inclusion Local Communities

In 2024 we commissioned EY to initiate a double materiality assessment to inform our sustainability strategy for 2025 and beyond. The outcomes of this assessment will be included in our next annual report.

2024 Annual Report

The data collected was received in varied time periods across 2023 (annual, quarterly, monthly). To enable comparison, the data collected for the year 2023 is calculated on an annual basis. This method relied on the data available at the time of publication.

Environmental (E) Data The Environmental data collection efforts for 2023 focused primarily upon energy and associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from Scope 1 and Scope 2 sources. The other E metrics’ data was not available from all our operating companies, and so has not yet become a detailed output of this 2023 report. Energy consumption was reported by operating company through utility bills and office square footage, to determine each office’s Energy Use Intensity (EUI) and greenhouse gas emissions.

For the greenhouse gas emissions calculation, the U.S. Department of Energy’s EIA (Energy Information Administration) and AFDC (Alternative Fuels Data Center) GHG emissions factors were used. This enabled the calculation to take into account both Scope 1 energy consumption from the grid, as well as diesel and/or natural gas consumption. In some instances, energy consumption data was not available. In these cases, a ‘benchmarking’ approach was utilized, which accounted for office size, location, and predetermined combinations of baseline building parameters (locations, program types, envelope constructions, usage profiles, conditioning systems, etc.) to output projected building energy consumption.

Social (S) Data The Social data collection efforts for 2023 relied on some confidential information. For this reason, the data portal design was agreed with the Human Resources leads so that what was entered in the portal was sufficiently anonymized. Operating companies’ access to the portal is restricted to their Pillar only. Only the Sidara ESG Team can access all Pillars’ data.

Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) data was obtained from the Sidara HSE Team, led by Sidara’s Head of OHSE.

Governance (G) Data The Sidara Governance data exists as a conglomeration of diversity data (specific to governing bodies), and reporting on policies, commitments, economics, risks, governance structures. Additionally, data is collected with regards to anti-bribery & corruption training & education offerings. For the year 2023, this data was not available from all Sidara operating companies and as such limited data performance has been disclosed. ESG policies, including data collection methodologies are under development. EY, acting as a third party, has reviewed and provided feedback on the structure of this report. They have also reviewed our FY2023 data for gaps, quality, methodology, and alignment with GRI reporting requirements. This report is not assured.

Corporate employees, regionally allocated employees and remote employees were associated with the office which they are geographically assigned to for the purpose of analysis. Educational training data was collected via the central data portal.

Glossary Audit: A formal examination of an organization’s or individual’s accounts or financial situation.

Energy Use Intensity (EUI): The ratio of energy consumption to floor space, typically expressed in kBtu/SF.

Baseline: The baseline (or reference) is the state against which change is measured. A baseline period is the period relative to which anomalies are computed.

Fugitive emissions: Leaks and other irregular releases of gases or vapors from a pressurized containment — such as appliances, storage tanks, pipelines, refrigerants, wells, or other pieces of equipment — mostly from industrial activities.

Carbon Intensity: The quantity of emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) released per unit of another variable such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP), output energy use or transport. CO2-equivalent (CO2e, CO2eq) emission: The amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission that would cause the same integrated radiative forcing, over a given time horizon, as an emitted amount of a greenhouse gas (GHG) or a mixture of GHGs. The CO2-equivalent emission is obtained by multiplying the emission of a GHG by its Global Warming Potential (GWP) for the given time horizon. For a mix of GHGs it is obtained by summing the CO2-equivalent emissions of each gas. eGRID factors: The Emissions & Generation Resource Integrated Database (eGRID) is a comprehensive source of data on the environmental characteristics of almost all electric power generated in the United States. Energy Efficiency: A ratio of service provided to energy input (e.g., lumens to watts in the case of light bulbs). Services provided can include buildings-sector end uses such as lighting, refrigeration, and heating: industrial processes; or vehicle transportation. Unlike conservation, which involves some reduction of service, energy efficiency provides energy reductions without sacrifice of service. May also refer to the use of technology to reduce the energy needed for a given purpose or service.

2024 Annual Report

Gender pay parity: 100% means 1:1 male-to-female pay ratio (achieving gender pay equity) >100% equates to where male employees are paid more than their female equivalent counterparts <100% equates to female employees who are paid more than their male counterparts. Green power: Green power refers to energy generation sources that do not produce greenhouse gas emissions during their electricity generation operations and produce the least environmental impact among today’s offerings. Green power is purchased through the local municipality, typically at a premium rate. It should be noted that the actual electrons delivered to an asset (building) do not have a different carbon intensity than buildings which do not purchase green power. Purchasing green power financially supports more renewable energy being added to the local grid, and thereby helping to reduce the carbon intensity of the entire grid over time. Residual Emissions: Emissions which exist despite all feasible sustainability efforts to eliminate emissions.

Scope 2 Emissions: Indirect GHG emissions associated with the purchase of electricity, steam, heat, or cooling. Although Scope 2 emissions physically occur at the facility where they are generated, they are accounted for in an organization’s GHG inventory because they are a result of the organization’s energy use. Scope 3 Emissions: Indirect GHG emissions are the result of activities from assets not owned or controlled by the reporting organization, but that the organization indirectly affects in its value chain. Scope 3 emissions include all sources not within an organization’s Scope 1 and 2 boundary. The Scope 3 emissions for one organization are the Scope 1 and 2 emissions of another organization. Scope 3 emissions, also referred to as value chain emissions, often represent the majority of an organization’s total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Total Recordable Injuries Rate (TRIR): An internationally recognized OH&S metric, which measures annual injuries defined by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as “any work-related injury or illness that results in death, loss of consciousness, days away from work, restricted work activity, transfer to another job, or medical treatment beyond first aid.” Water Use Intensity (WUI): The ratio of water consumption to floor space. Water stress: ratio of total annual water withdrawals to total available annual renewable supply, accounting for upstream consumptive use).

Scope 1 Emissions: Direct greenhouse (GHG) emissions that occur from sources that are controlled or owned by an organization (e.g., emissions associated with fuel combustion in boilers, furnaces, vehicles).
