Meet the newly appointed School Captains and Deputy School Captains

The Sixth Form Leadership Team has now begun to be created and it is a pleasure to announce that we have 2 new School Captains and 2 new Deputy School Captains who are the most senior students. In due course the leadership team will have House Captains, a Boarding Captain and a Sports Captain to complete the team.

In a change to proceedings from previous years, the school decided to opt for a ‘Quaker Nomination’ process in deciding who would become our most senior students. This process began with current Year 12 students choosing 2 staff and 2 students to form a committee to oversee the entire process. Staff and students across the school were then able to ‘nominate’ up to 5 students to be considered for theses prestigious roles. After careful thought, reflection and consideration, the committee presented Toby Spence and Cate Mallalieu-Needle with the final nominations.

You may have seen that we are offering an expedition trip to Ladakh, India to work alongside the Snow Leopard Trust.

This exciting opportunity has been postponed until July 2021 and is now open to all students who are currently in Years 10 and 11.

A number of Year 11 students have already signed up and we are now offering this opportunity to Year 10 students and any Year 11s who may have missed this opportunity the first time around. Students have attended a launch meeting with ‘True Adventure’ on Friday afternoon.

Interested parents/guardians are invited to attend an information evening on Thursday 23rd May at 6pm in the Oliver Studio. Please do attend if your child is interested to find out more and ask any questions that you may have. If you are unable to attend the information evening but would like more information, please email Victoria Macaulay (vmacaulay@sibfordschool.co.uk) as soon as possible.

Royal Windsor Horse Show On Saturday 11 May, Emma, Maizey and Hannah set off to Windsor to compete in the inter schools NSEA (Nation Schools Equestrian Association) class. It was an amazing day full of laughs. It was a big class including schools from all over the country. The atmosphere was incredible which lots of pressure on every rider. Each rider and horse put their full effort into this hot competition with the team coming 21st out of many teams. It was an amazing experience to be competing in the Queen’s garden! Smiles all round! And we are all excited for Hickstead in 2 weeks time!! By Emma, Hannah (Year 8) and Maizey (Year 7)

Wiser Words The Key Stage 3 Gifted and Talented group met for a Wiser Words session with Emily Wiser. In the warmup exercise pupils designed houses and then took turns to 'sell' their design to the group whilst the others questioned and challenged them on their reasoning. This led up to an activity with the pupils debating various notions such as whether there really was a jumbo jet on the school drive and the reality of fairies! It was good to see the pupils having a go at arguing points whether or not they agreed with them as well as working on their debating skills. Gold Duke of Edinburgh Congratulations to Old Scholars Alex Phillips, Oliver Keers and Gary Rooney, who all collected their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards from Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. They had a wonderful day together with 3000 other young people from around the country.

SFL Learner of the week Congratulations to SFL Learner of the week! Ella (Year 7) has been awarded the title for her creative design to demonstrate different letter combinations of long vowel sounds. Well done Ella for always working so hard and giving your best in your SFL lessons.

Support for Learning - parent conversation afternoons.

Parent conversation afternoons take place on Friday afternoons and are an opportunity for parents/carers to make an appointment to see thier child’s SFL teacher(s) for a 15minute discussion about your child’s progress and any concerns you may have.

SAVE THE DATE – ANNUAL OPEN DAY ON JUNE 15!

Please save the date for our annual open day on June 15. This is a compulsory school day for all pupils and families are encouraged to join and experience the wide array of presentations and displays put on by pupils, staff and parents. More details to follow.
