INTRODUCTION
To Shooters Hill Sixth Form College Our College SHC employs 250 staff members to teach and support a cohort of 1550 young people. We are located within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, but we also provide education for a significant number of young people from the boroughs of Bexley and Lewisham. Our curriculum spans from Entry Level to A-Level, providing education to a wonderfully rich and diverse cohort.

DESCRIPTION Post Vice Principal, Student Experience Grade Leadership (Inner London), L17 – L21 Responsible to Principal Responsible for Assistant Principals; Head of Pastoral, Director of Marketing and Communication, Director of Employability Teaching Commitment 3 Hours pw This job description is to be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document and within the range of duties set out in that document.
Main purpose of the role As a Senior Post Holder and member of the College Executive, the Vice Principal Student Experience, fulfils a key role in the college, providing leadership for all student support functions and strategic support to the Principal. This post leads on teaching and learning, inclusion, equality and diversity, safeguarding, pastoral support, attendance and punctuality and learner behaviour.
To establish a culture that promotes excellence, inclusivity and championing equality and diversity, the post holder will ensure that every encounter is a positive experience that establishes Shooters Hill Sixth Form College as the first choice for local learners. MAIN TASKS
Strategic direction and planning / leadership • To work effectively with the Principal, Governing Body and Senior Leadership Team, to achieve the college’s mission and strategic goals. • To provide inspirational leadership and effective management across all areas of responsibility. • Under the direction of the Principal, support the colleges ethos and values, culture and strategic intents.
• To support, contribute to and take personal responsibility for leading and implementing the College’s commitment to Diversity and Equality of Opportunity, Safeguarding, Prevent and the Student Experience. • Ensure the effective provision of timetabling and resourcing of teaching and learning, enrichment, pastoral support, employability and community activities. • To maintain a comprehensive understanding of the current and future national, regional and local educational scene and advise on trends which could affect the colleges educational character, performance and other operations. • Create a culture of uncompromising ambition for learners and staff to reach excellence.

Behaviour and attitudes / personal development • To continually raise standards on all key quality performance indicators, working with the Principal, to set challenging targets and monitoring their achievement throughout curriculum and key support areas.
• To lead on the attendance and punctuality policy and implementation • To foster a learning culture that is supportive, innovative and responsive to the needs of learners, • To lead on enterprise and the development of entrepreneurship skills to inspire learners and widen opportunities available to them. • Develop the employability, work experience and careers -related curriculum. • To embed effective tutorial and enrichment opportunities to enrich students’ college experience, their wider knowledge and engagement with the community.
• To ensure effective learner support mechanisms are in place that maximise chances of success. • Introduce strategies that will support learners to develop confidence, resilience and knowledge so that they can keep themselves mentally and physically healthy. • Develop students understanding of appropriate healthy relationships with all community stakeholders.

MAIN TASKS
Leading, Teaching and Learning • Contribute to reports on attainment of a target group to a variety of audiences, including SLT, Governors, Wider Management Team as well as other external stakeholder groups. • Promote and secure the active involvement of pupils in their own learning. • Support strategies to promote high standards of behaviour, especially independent working, attendance and punctuality. • Actively promote sharing of good practice. • Support the development of CPD activities.
MAIN TASKS
Quality Assurance / Improvement • To be the custodian of the college’s teaching and learning to ensure that the quality of provision delivers outstanding standards that allow students to achieve their full potential and make progress in realising their ambitions. • To ensure excellent standards and practices for Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement (RARPA).
• To work with the student council and implement a learner voice strategy that ensures the student voice is heard and contributes to improvements in the experience for all learners. • To lead on the development and implementation of policies, processes and procedures for an inclusive accessible learning environment. • To champion outstanding standards in teaching, learning and innovation in delivery within a rigorous, validated observation and development framework.
Working with People • Lead and manage Assistant Principals, Directors, and other designated staff, setting clear, stretching and measurable targets and objectives and undertaking regular professional reviews.
• Provide people focussed leadership of the curriculum and support teams that is dynamic, innovative and effective with a focus on delivering teaching, learning and assessment that is ambitious and sets high expectations of both students and staff. • To encourage excellence in pedagogy and embed a philosophy which inspires personal and academic achievement. • To ensure strong leadership of effective resource management within all areas of responsibility. • To work with the Principal and senior managers to strengthen new and existing links with schools, colleges, HEIs, funding and awarding bodies, employers, other groups and representative organisations.
MAIN TASKS Other Duties
• To work with the Principal, to develop and consolidate new and existing strategic partnerships and relationships which will enhance the College’s reputation. • To represent the Principal, at external meetings, acting as an ambassador for the college and its learners. • To manage appropriate budgets and ensure that these are efficiently operated.
• To carry out other duties that may be required as the college and the role evolve.
