INTRODUCTION
To Shooters Hill Sixth Form College Our College SHC employs 250 staff members to teach and support a cohort of 1550 young people. We are located within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, but we also provide education for a significant number of young people from the boroughs of Bexley and Lewisham. Our curriculum spans from Entry Level to A-Level, providing education to a wonderfully rich and diverse cohort.

DESCRIPTION Post Principal Grade Leadership (Inner London), L37 – L43 (£110,142 - £ 125,098) Responsible to The Board of Trustees Responsible for Leadership of all college staff
Main purpose of the role The Principal provides executive leadership to drive and achieve the ongoing success of the college through inspirational strategic leadership, using their deep understanding of educational best practice, an unwavering commitment to putting the needs and aspirations of all students at the heart of the decision-making process and strong commercial acumen. The Principal will lead by example maintaining the climate for an exemplary attitude to learning and set an expectation for high standards within the College, recognising differences and respecting cultural diversity within the Royal Borough of Greenwich and neighbouring boroughs. The Principal will role model the professional conduct and practice of all staff in a way that optimises the experience and achievement of students, minimises unnecessary workload and provides for high quality continuous professional development for staff. The Principal is an employee of the Trust and required to carry out his/her duties in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Trust’s contract of employment. Nothing in this job description overrides the contract of employment.

MAIN TASKS
Strategic Leadership, vision and facilitating change • Lead the evolution of the strategy and vision to make the College a centre of excellence and first choice for A-Levels, Vocational and Inclusive Learning.
• Taking the vision, develop a comprehensive, coherent and effective strategic plan for approval by the board of trustees. • Grow and develop the College’s curriculum offer, expanding provision in line with student and local, regional and national job market demand.
• Set the College’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy, championing and valuing EDI to ensure we are an EDI organisation for both students and Staff. • Ensure that all elements of the strategic plan (Financial, Business Efficiency, Estate Strategy, I.T Strategy, Curriculum Strategy & Recruitment Plan) are reviewed, implemented and deliver high outcomes.
• Develop and deliver the College’s local engagement strategy to drive productive relationships with local and regional stakeholders, including local authorities, the local community and higher education institutions. • Be accountable for presenting a coherent and accurate account of the College’s performance to the Board of Trustees, and to other stakeholder groups as required by the Trust. • Ensure that all those involved in the College are committed to its aims and are accountable for meeting the long-medium and short-term objectives that will ensure high performance, sustained improvement and the educational success of all our learners.
• Provide timely, accurate information, objective advice and effective support to the Board of Trustees to enable their respective responsibilities to be fully achieved. • Work with senior managers to develop effective College systems, policies, and procedures for continually improving the learner experience and performance standards.
• Plan and manage change in an open and professional manner. • Provide a role model of professional conduct, inspiring both staff and students. • Maintain a thorough awareness of developments within both the FE and HE sectors to ensure that the College is prepared for change and where appropriate leading the sector in the delivery of “best in class” strategies
MAIN TASKS
High expectations and outcomes for students • Lead and manage the implementation of the curriculum strategy, supported by robust analysis of needs, identifying priorities and targets, to ensure students achieve high standards and outstanding performance. • Plan and ensure the efficient deployment of resources, including staff, to achieve best value and high outcomes for learners. • Establish robust monitoring and evaluating systems to ensure the effectiveness of the College in enabling students to achieve high outcomes and to review the effectiveness and adapt these processes regularly. • Provide timely and appropriate advice to the board of trustees in order to ensure problems are minimised and opportunities maximised. • Monitor, evaluate and review the effect of policies and targets on student outcomes and to take action as necessary to improve standards.
• Provide a safe, calm and well-ordered environment for all students and staff focused on the safeguarding and wellbeing of students, enabling their development of exemplary behaviour both in the College and wider society.
Teaching and planning student learning • Secure outstanding teaching through an analytical understanding of how students learn, the core features of successful classroom practice and curriculum design, to ensure rich curriculum opportunities and students’ wellbeing. • Ensure that the diverse needs of all learners are planned for and met and that all students have equal opportunities to progress to meaningful, sustainable employment and/or good quality Higher Education programmes. • Determine, organise and implement the curriculum and assessment procedures, monitor and evaluate them to identify and act on areas for improvement.
• Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching, standards of student learning and achievement, to set and meet realistic but challenging targets for improvement. • Ensure students develop the skills they need to learn increasingly effectively and independently.
MAIN TASKS
Relations with College wider community • Promote strong governance and actively support the Board of Trustees and account for the efficiency and effectiveness of the College to others including students, parents/guardians, staff, local employers and the local community. • Develop effective relationships with the community, including business and industry, to extend the curriculum and to enhance teaching and learning, building effective and financially efficient extended College provision. • Create and maintain an effective partnership with parents/guardians and the wider community to support and improve the student experience, achievement and their personal development. • Ensure parents/guardians, students, employers and higher education institutions are well informed about the curriculum and the contribution that they can make to the improvement of learning and achievement of students.
• Work in close partnership with local schools, academies, and colleges in a climate of mutual support and challenge to secure effective transition and progression. • Work with other providers to maximise participation and impact on our students.
• Draw on employers and the Specialist Schools and Colleges network to optimise provision in the College’s specialisms.
Managing and developing Staff • Implement and sustain effective systems for managing performance including the incorporation of performance management targets for all staff (in particular those relating to student achievement). • Motivate and enable staff to carry out their roles to the highest standards through high quality professional development based on needs, using coaching and drawing on other sources of expertise where appropriate.
• Lead CPD through example and ensure professional duties and conditions of employment are fulfilled.

Managing resources and estate
• Develop an Estates Strategy, to ensure efficient and effective use of the estate as well as generating income. • Ensure accommodation in the College is managed and organised efficiently and effectively to ensure that it meets the needs of the curriculum and health and safety regulations. • Ensure that the management, finance, organisation and administration of the College support and deliver its vision and aims. • Work in close partnership with others to secure educational effectiveness alongside financial efficiency. • Work with the board of trustees, and colleagues to recruit and retain staff of the highest quality.
• Ensure the effective deployment of staff, including senior colleagues, to maximise the quality of education provided. • Ensure that the range, quality, quantity and use of resources is managed, monitored and reviewed to improve student achievement, ensure efficiency and secure value for money.
• Take steps to maximise the range & quality of the resources available at the College.
