The club was formed in 1950 as Old Wellingtonians by former students of Wellington Grammar School. The name was later changed to Wellington Amateurs when the Head Master of the school discovered that the club had started accepting players that were not former pupils. After 31 years in the Wellington League, the club joined the Shropshire County Football League Division One in 1981.
In 2024 the club was taken over by businessman and former Hednesford Town owner Hayden Dando and renamed Telford Town Football Club . The club captured its first silverware following the change to Telford Town on Sunday 29 April as they beat Shrewsbury Up n Comers 3–0 at Wem Towns Butler Sports Ground with goals from Will Evans and a brace from Josh Beamond to win the Powell Cup for the first time.
A women’s section of the club was announced and entered a Ladies team into the Shropshire Women’s Superleague for the 2024/25 season. The ladies team went on to be crowned champions scoring a record 162 goals and conceding just 10 whilst finishing runners up in the Shropshire League Cup.
The club won the treble in 2024/25 winning the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division, The Powell Cup and the Shropshire Challenge Cup.

Shrewsbury Up & Comers Football Club was established in 1973 as a grassroots football club offering children in the local area an opportunity to play football and now proudly holds a 3 star accreditation as a Chartered Standard Development club.
Alongside our creche (age 4 to 8 years), our junior team setup, and our open age football for both male and females, we have recently affiliated a walking football team and started SEND sessions on a Saturday morning.
With 54 teams affiliated over 700 players and 200 volunteers, Shrewsbury Up and Comers is the largest grassroots football club in the area.
The clubs biggest achievement was winning a Kings Award for Voluntary service in 2024, being the first football club in Shropshire to win this prestigious award.

First and foremost, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to AFC Telford United’s Seah Stadium.
It is a pleasure to welcome the players, along with today’s match officials and supporters, as we come together to celebrate the fantastic achievement of reaching this cup final.
A special thank you must go to our match officials. Their appointments to today’s final are a testament to their dedication, professionalism and hard work throughout the season.
I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to all clubs and leagues for their continued support during the 2025/26 season. Your contribution plays a vital role in the ongoing growth and success of grassroots football across Shropshire.
Finally, I would like to recognise the staff and volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes. Their efforts ensure the smooth running of our competitions and the successful organisation of occasions such as today
I would like to wish both teams the very best of luck. Regardless of the result, today represents a wonderful celebration of football and a fitting way to conclude the 2025/26 campaign.
Enjoy the game.
