We are a fast-growing association, offering various benefits.
We meet bi-monthly on the 2nd Monday
The Telford Referees Association was formed in February 2020, following an initial meeting at The Queens at Horton Since then, the organisation has grown to become one of the most respected and well-regarded group of referees within the region. With a commitment to ongoing training and development, the Telford Referees Association has helped to develop hundreds of referees since our formation, ensuring that as Match officials the game is played fairly in the safest manner.
The Telford Referees Association has developed a strong and trusting partnership with the Telford Junior League, offering support and guidance to young referees as they develop and broaden their skills We are widely represented across all leagues within the county, invited to officiate at Shrewsbury School and have been rewarded with invitations to officiate at national finals, that is a testament to the dedication and skill that our members continue to display
Whilst our work is not solely on the field of play, the Telford Referees Association are also committed to making a positive impact in the community, offering charitable donations over the years, by supporting a range of causes and organisations across the region The association is also a keen advocate of the impacts of mental health, as Chairperson Mark Reilly leads the way on this prominent topic in life
With a focus on fairness, integrity, and community, the Telford Referees Association are a shining example of what can be achieved when people come together to make a difference
The branch is the longest running in the County town of Shropshire, attracting a wide range of membership from the north to the south of the County. We boast the first Shropshire Referee to ever officiate in the Football League, the late Sam Rogers, who was also Chairman, President and member of the Shropshire Football Association. The branch can trace a history back to the second world war
The branch aims to support all of our member’s needs, for the newly qualified referees we are always here to help and we have a lot of experienced referees within our membership. The monthly meetings take place every 1st Monday of each month. The branch encourages members to attend the monthly meetings.
Meetings are on the first Monday of the month starting at 7.30pm until around 9.00pm at the Harlescott Social Club (Roselyn SY14LP). Parents are actively encouraged to attend.
All new members are added to the Shrewsbury RA WhatsApp, a media forum to communicate ideas, AND debate amongst Junior Referees.
A new initiative has been developed where the Branch will go out to Junior Clubs and their referees and provide further development training. This was hugely successful with the SAHA Club and a second visit is planned. Our aim is to roll this out too many more Junior Clubs. It alleviates the need for parents to travel, so that the event is more local to a particular club.

The Football Association has published guidance notes on the condition to raise awareness of its impact on football.
Sin bins:
From the 2019-20 season, temporary dismissals also known as ‘sin bins’ were introduced across all levels of grassroots football to improve levels of respect and fair play in the game. Any player committing dissent will now find themselves given a 10-minute temporary dismissal from the pitch.
Sin bins will apply to all levels of grassroots football
This positive rule change has been implemented up to Step 5 of the National League System and Tier 3 and below in women ’ s football. 10-minute sin bin dismissals are issued at the discretion of referees as punishment for dissent, and apply to all levels of grassroots football, including youth, veterans and disability.

Referees play a crucial role in helping football take place
From local grassroots football played in a park on a Sunday morning right through to the FA Cup Final at Wembley, every football match needs a referee.
That's why here at Shropshire FA we are dedicated to producing, supporting and developing a highly motivated and immense talented network of FA qualified referees.
We work hard to provide a wide range of opportunities and support to the 300+ registered referees officiating across the county already, and encourage those looking to get into refereeing for the first time.
