Shrewsbury Town Foundation, previously known as Shrewsbury Town in the community began their youth development center over a decade ago and later became members of the MJPL in 2017. This current day the foundation has 7 boys teams competing in the MJPL as part of our program, this echos the growth of the project throughout the years over our two centers, Shrewsbury and south Shropshire(Ludlow). To this day the foundation is yet to win its first piece of silverware and this occasion also marks the clubs first appearance In a major cup final.
Our U16 squad have been a fantastic cohort here at the foundation, to have a core of lads that have done the full journey from U13s through to 16s with the same club, Same coach’s and same teammates sums up why they are here competing for this trophy tonight. Progression has been clear to see from their first season to now, started off with two steady seasons finishing towards the lower end of their league before securing back-to-back top 5 finishes in the midland junior premier league, going on a 12-month unbeaten run in the league during that time. Players to watch out for include team captain Ed Jacobs, played over 80 games for the club and has remained Mr. reliable through the whole 4 years, a no nonsense Centre Half who is calm and collected on the ball, a real role model for the rest of our lads and without a doubt a born leader.
Teddy and Jack have led this cohort for 4 years combined. Teddy began as assistant coach in 2020 when the group were U13 working alongside now U18 Academy Manager Sean McAllister. Jack joined the ground at the beginning of the U14 season as co-coach to Teddy, the 2 youngest coaches in the foundation at the time but both got stuck in straight away where the two began work on what would become one of the strongest teams the foundation has produced. Each season they have seen progression in the group, strengthening in areas they felt needed while also nurturing and developing what they already had in the squad.
A note from Teddy :
This group have been nothing but a joy to coach, I feel like I’ve grown and developed on this journey just as much as these lads, I was an 18 year old level 1 football coach and a full time student when I began this journey and we finish it now with me being a 22 year old B license coach working in full time football, a magical journey that I truly believe wouldn’t have happened without these lads.
A note from Jack :
This group of players has been mine and Teddy’s reason to coach for the last 4 years, The groups passion and love for the game is infectious and there work rate is unquestionable. Seeing these young people grow into the players and individuals they are today has been an honor to be a part of. I could never thank this squad enough for the journey we’ve had together.
Just a huge thank you for your time, effort and support regardless of when you joined us, you have made our job ten times easier with the constant communication, the consistency of getting the boys to training and matches on time week in week out, we never took anything for granted and we always aimed to pay you back in the lads performances, you were a constant motivation to the lads in our pre game talks every single week. Thank you for everything and make yourselves heard tonight! Teddy and Jack x
