Call to Order
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission (SBSC) Advisory Board was held on Tuesday, May 22, 2024, at Visit Shreveport-Bossier Office at 629 Spring St, Shreveport, LA. Doyle Adams, Chairman, called the meeting at 8:33 a.m. A quorum was present.
Agenda
The agenda of the May 22, 2024, meeting was reviewed. Mr. Brotherton made a motion to approve; seconded by Mr. Bohanan. All in favor none opposed with no public comment.
Minutes
The minutes of the April 24, 2024, meeting was reviewed. Following review, Mr. Bohanan made a motion to approve; seconded by Mr. Brotherton. All in favor none opposed with no public comment.
Financial Report
Mrs Brown shared the financials with the board. Mr. Bohanan made a motion to approve; seconded by Mr. Brotherton. All in favor none opposed with no public comment.
Funding Applications
1. NAIA National Tournament Baseball Opening Round –budgeted $10K for event.
2. Rivercities Triathlon & Ironfish Kids Triathlon – annual event with Sports Spectrum advised that event has become mainly local residents; requested $10,000; approve $1,000. Mr. Bohanan made a motion to approve $1,000; seconded by Mr. Wesley. All in favor none opposed with no public comment.
3. Senior All Star Member-Grant Doubles – hosted at All Star lanes with 100 athletes with room block of 40 rooms at Bally’s. Requested $2,500; approved $1,200. Mr. Brotherton made a motion to approve $1,200; seconded by Mr. Bohanan. All in favor none opposed with no public comment.
Events Update/Discussion
a. American Pickleball Tour Site Visit – May 29, 2024.
b. Red River Balloon Rally – LA Downs building bridge for pilot arrivals; sponsors are involved to create activations; fireworks approved. Will bid on US Nationals of the Balloon Rally for our 10year anniversary.
c. DYB World Series – planning underway with local partners and LOT to execute
d. LHSAA Wrestling – decision will be announced by May 31, 2024.
e. GCAC – asked SBSC to host baseball and softball championship; only issue all local schools/venues in season during their event.
f. HBCU Sports – Mr. Wesley asked if any Grambling or Southern games can be played in the future.
g. Stage Works - Mr. Jackson’s group wants to take over building, signing lease in June 2024.
h. LSU/Grambling - AT&T may sponsor, with Mikaylah Williams (Parkway High alumna) doing camps or clinics with TV exposure.
Upcoming Events
a. Fit for Life – May 24-26, 2024 – Bodybuilding competition at the Shreveport Convention Center
b. F1 Red River Rumble Powerboat Competition – May 24-26, 2024 – SPAR has been helpful in cleaning river front. Crane will load in boats on water. Overbudget for first year expenses but will not impact future budget.
c. Softball Tournament – May 24-26, 2024- there will be 64 teams.
Adjournment
Next meeting is June 26, 2024. With there being no further business, Mr. Adams made a motion to adjourn, and Mr. Bohanan seconded, which was voted on and passed with no public comment, the meeting adjourned at 9:28 AM.
