Music
Shreveport-Bossier’s music roots run deep.
If you want to be entertained, there is no shortage of options. Whether it’s a jazz date night or an evening of rock with friends, Shreveport-Bossier sets the stage for unforgettable musical experiences.
The beautiful and iconic Municipal Auditorium on Elvis Presley Avenue has a storied history. The Art Deco building was the birthplace of the Louisiana Hayride, a radio show heard far and wide in the 1940s and ‘50s. Shreveport’s own Hank Williams performed his hits “Jambalaya” and “Lovesick Blues” on the show. The Hayride, the Municipal and Shreveport-Bossier are credited with launching many music careers, including “The King of Rock ‘N Roll,” Elvis Presley and Shreveport native, James Burton, who served as guitarist and band leader for Elvis until the King passed in 1977.
Live music can be found throughout the week at various restaurants such as Noble Savage Tavern in downtown Shreveport and Sweet Caroline’s Dueling Piano Bar at the Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets. Large outdoor venues like Hurricane Alley in the East Bank Arts District and The Stage at Silver Star in north Bossier often bring both seasoned professionals and emerging talents to the area.
Shreveport-Bossier’s music festival scene is robust and known to unite local and world-renowned artists at popular events such as Prize Foundation’s Music Fest, Red River Revel and Highland Jazz & Blues Festival. Read more about festivals on page 54.

Shreveport-Bossier’s past whispers from its landmarks. Antioch Baptist Church, the city’s first Black church, stands tall, a testament to resilience. The Municipal Auditorium, home of the legendary Louisiana Hayride stage that first introduced Elvis Presley to the world, still echoes with legends. Oakland Cemetery, with its Civil War soldiers, and Star Cemetery, the resting place of early Black leaders, offer quiet histories to explore.
