HOME FOR THE HOMELESS OPTIMIZING PODS ARRANGEMENT USING CA

AIM Research says the cases of homelessness have rose by 54% between 2013 and 2023. Roughly 10,053 people are sleeping on pedestrian and dingy spaces. The winter nights in London can get very extreme and a reason for hypothermia and deaths. With this project we aim to shelter these community by creating a flexible setup in Fitzroy square garden. The garden is a space which acts as an area of leisure and helps the nearby community to gather and communicate.

The green patches in the urban settlement helps to free up mind and contributes to mental wellbeing. But during the winters, these spaces are generally empty and do not have any function at an urban scale. So, the idea of putting up temporary pods can help the needy to stay indoors during freezing hours.

We also try to stack the pods in an efficient way so as to preserve the ecology of the park. The fabrication of the modules i s designed in a way that no major construction process in needed to stagger them. The assembling of parts and disassembling of the same is quick and easy process. Cellular Automata helps to create geometry which is bound by the rules and parameters we provided for the growth of this pods.

Understanding Site , and Site context to create an almost realistic scenario for the geometry conceived using CA.

Using Cellular Automation for optimizing solar gains for the whole geometry.

Using existing trees on the Site (as obstacles), for generating geometry around it, hence preserving ecology.

Also, modular geometry can be inter-fixable, reducing the amount of joinery materials, standardizing the construction of components as well as supporting scaffoldings during construction.
