Monopoly and clones enjoyed their most successful year ever in 2016/2017 show season. There were more Monopoly sired state fair market champions than all other sires combined. The highest selling prospect steers of the fall sale season were Monopoly/clone sired steers raised by Justin Lain, Luke Doris, and Dean Staley commanding $66,000, $61,500 & $51,000 respectively. Simply put, Monopoly continues to be the most consistent and dependable option at breeding for high sellers and show champions! Monopoly 7 has been described by many of the top breeders in the country as their favorite Monopoly clone to view in person ever. Order for shipment today for spring breeding.

One In The Chamber & Loaded For Bear are the best sons of Tracy Goretska’s legendary 805 donor. One In The Chamber delivers extra foot size and power on flatter made females. Kerry Danker of Avoca, Iowa had four One In The Chamber calves born in 2016 with all making the sale pen and the top two selling for $27,000 and $25,500 the following September. Talk about return on investment. Loaded For Bear is a slightly shorter legged version of his brother that also has explosive muscle pattern and elite structural soundness. We look for these two powerful full brothers to continue to gain widespread popularity in 2017.

A new year and once again many new and exciting things happening at Matt Lautner Cattle. Our Denver display was our most rewarding year ever with TH Free & PHA Free sires "Trump Train" and "No Guts, No Glory" creating tremendous excitement and buzz. Monopoly & Clones enjoyed their most dominant year to date with 24 state fair champions sired in the 2016 show season. Blaze Of Glory and Simplify look to be the most popular purebred sires for calf quality and calving ease. Look for Hawkeye & Run For The Roses progeny to be highly sought after at the Matt Lautner Cattle show barn and beyond. We added Huff N Puff and Loaded For Bear from Brad Otto in the fall of 2016, add them to your next order. Sexed Male and Female semen also continues to be a popular and useful resource for many breeders in 2017, stay tuned to the blog as we add more sexed options to our lineup this spring. We logged a combined 80,000 miles traveling across the United States and Canada to gather our new line-up of bulls. These extensive travels allow us the best opportunity to acquire the most elite phenotype animals with some legendary donors backing them up. Our weekly online semen sales on CW Cattle Sales continue to be popular. If you have not given our bulls an opportunity, feel free to call Matt or Michelle or any of our traveling sales persons. We ship semen daily from our home office in Adel, Iowa. Feel Free to call in your order now and schedule a farm visit for later in the spring. 2017 looks to be our most exciting year to date. We thank you for the opportunity to show you our best.

FULFILLS MAKE-A-WISH WITH MATT LAUTNER CATTLE AT NWSS Three years ago, if McKenzie Glass could be anywhere in the entire world, she would have been in the barn with her steer, King. “He was so cute, and he absolutely loved to play,” Glass said. She was ready to spend an amazing summer outside of her hometown of Wellersburg, Pennsylvania, working with her show steer and pigs, but her show season and her entire world were interrupted. DIAGNOSED July 22, 2014, is a day that Glass remembers vividly. That night, she went into the emergency room with severe stomach pains. The doctors ran standard scans and found that Glass had a cyst on her left ovary that had ruptured and caused internal bleeding. They quickly sent her to surgery and removed her left ovary and fallopian tube and biopsied the tumor. The doctors found that the mixed germ cell that was released from the ruptured tumor was malignant, and they diagnosed her with stage III ovarian cancer. “All of my family was at the hospital, so I knew that something was wrong,” Glass said. Glass spent three weeks in Baltimore to undergo extensive treatment. During her weeks of chemotherapy, Glass explained that she and her mom, Vicky, became very close. “My mom always tells me to be more positive than negative,” Glass said, “you can do a lot more things with positivity than negativity.” As soon as Glass was released from the hospital, the first thing she wanted to do was see her steer. “When I walked in the barn, King perked his ears up right when he saw me,” Glass said. Glass’ neighbors, Lynn and Chris Korns, had been feeding and boarding King while Glass was in the hospital. Glass will always appreciate the Korns’ help that summer, leading up to their fair in August. MILE HIGH MEMORIES That fall, Glass’ great aunt made the call to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and explained to them her niece’s story. After months of anticipation, the foundation finally decided to grant Glass a wish. “At first, I wanted to go on a cruise,” Glass said. “But my favorite thing is showing, and after I thought about it for a while, I knew that I had to go to the Denver stock show.” On Saturday, January 14, 2017, Glass experienced her very first flight when she, along with her mom, dad, sister and boyfriend, flew from Pennsylvania to Colorado. Upon her arrival, she was introduced to livestock coordinator, Clancy Anderson. “We were contacted about McKenzie’s wish back in December.” Anderson said. “Although there are a lot of moving

parts to how her wish was granted, I made initial contact with breeder, Matt Lautner, to ask if she could join him in the yards that weekend for the herd sire display.” Glass did not let the snowy yards keep her from making mile high memories. During the weekend she was welcomed by Lautner and spent time as a part of his team. “We were honored that she chose to work with our bulls and help us display at Matt Lautner Cattle,” Lautner said. “When you think of all the things that young person could choose to do, it says a lot about her and the show cattle industry that she chose to spend time at the National Western Stock Show.” Glass had a way of making an impact on the people that she interacted with. Lautner said, “she was a passionate young lady, and I hope our paths cross again soon.” Throughout the week, Glass saw a variety of high quality and interesting livestock across the grounds. “I’ve seen animals here that I’ve never seen before,” Glass said. “Like, you haven’t seen a steer until you’ve been to Denver.” Because of permission from the CEO and superintendent of the stock show, Glass was able to help recognize these remarkable livestock when she handed out the banner to the Grand Champion Market Hog showman. The following evening, she tailed steers with Laurie Reid of Showtimes Magazine during the Grand Champion Market Steer selection. Glass said that visiting the champion steers the next day for tea at the Brown Palace Hotel and Spa was the highlight of her week. “I loved being around people that just get it,” Glass said. “I like meeting new people, and it’s so much more fun and way easier to get to meet people from all over that understand what showing is all about.” MOVING FORWARD Glass has been in remission for more than two years. Now a sophomore in high school, Glass is eager to get back in the show ring. She still plans show another steer and market hog, but she has been trying to convince her dad to let her show a lamb this summer. “I’m always looking to expand my horizons, and I’ve never shown a lamb before,” Glass said. In a few years, she would like to attend Penn State University to study animal science and agricultural business. After spending a week with the members of the National Western staff including Anderson, Glass said, “Who know? I might even end up working for the National Western Stock Show some day.” Regardless of her plans, Glass will continue to be an inspiration and a light on the livestock industry. “She is one of the most outgoing 16-year-old girls I’ve ever had the chance to hang out with,” Anderson said. “She’s got an obvious passion for the livestock industry, and a girl like her is meant for big things.”
