A CHAT WITH MICHAEL STARR, LEAD SINGER OF

SIGT: At Rockville, we asked for the best, and we got the best… Steel Panther! How lucky do you think KISS feels playing the same rock festival as you? MICHAEL: Well, I know Gene Simmons is so happy about it! He called me yesterday. He's like, “I can't believe you guys are playing that. I got to step up my game now.” I'm like, ‘Dude, it's gonna take more than an outfit to step up your game for Steel Panther!‘ SIGT: You can't seem to keep the ladies off the stage of a Steel Panther show. I'm just curious, what does your Florida rolodex of female friends look like? MICHAEL: Florida is full of chicks who want to party, and that's just the bottom line. I love coming to Florida, and we never stopped. I mean, once we started going there, we went there all through the pandemic, and we played there, and it was killer. And now we're back and we're going to rock it hard. And, thank God for WhatsApp, Instagram, and all types of other communication, preferably ones that are encrypted just for legal purposes. SIGT: You're considered one of America's last great surviving poets. When can we expect a follow up to 2019’s ‘Heavy Metal Rules’? MICHAEL: Great news: We're working on it right now, as a matter of fact. We're two songs away from finishing the vocals. All the music is done. Our producer is out in Europe doing a record with another band. He's going to come back soon. He's already mixed two of the songs. He's got to mix the rest of them. Expect a single very soon! SIGT: We all enjoy witnessing a Steel Panther show because we always walk away with a smile. MICHAEL: That's what I always loved when I went and saw Van Halen, I was going there smiling, but when I left, my smile was to my ears. I had fun. I was excited. David Lee Roth was funny, and Eddie was amazing on guitar. The whole band kicked ass. The show was amazing to watch. That's what I want to go see. I want to see somebody entertain me. I want the singer to engage my eyes, not his shoes. Some people say, God, this band, why can't they be serious? I mean, come on, dude. Everything's serious! The world is serious. The last thing I want to do is spend money on a ticket and go watch a band talk about politics and fucking COVID. I want to talk about fucking bitches and partying and having a good time! SIGT: Amen to that. Well, the tribute you released to Van Halen was phenomenal. Have you ever caught Wolfgang Van Halen performing any of his festival stuff? He is going to be playing this festival with his band Mammoth WVH as well. MICHAEL: Yeah, I did, actually. We were doing a festival here in Northern California, and I heard that he was sound checking. I went over to listen, and the band is so good, and I really love his music. It makes me so happy because I'm such a big fan of his Dad and all the work that Van Halen did, with and without David Lee Roth, and to hear his interpretation. You know he grew up WITH Van Halen?! SIGT: I know that's the craziest part. MICHAEL: It's like, wow. And people want him to do finger tapping and fucking whammy bar shit. That's not who he is, man! He's writing what's coming out of his heart and it's beautiful. I fucking love it. SIGT: Yeah. I'm so stoked to see them and you guys at Welcome to Rockville. Is there anything else you'd like to say directly to the fans at Rockville this year? MICHAEL: Yeah, come out Wednesday because if you don't, you're going to be fucking bummed you missed Steel Panther! It's a free party for all the campers and if you're camping, why not come… Twice? Once in a tent and once at Steel Panther!

A CHAT WITH WOLFGANG VAN HALEN, AKA

SIGT: How are you doing today? WOLF: I'm good! The daily stresses of getting ready for a tour are alive and well and that's exciting. SIGT: How has rehearsal been? WOLF: We're finally back to full strength after a couple of tours. We got Frank back and now we're a five piece again. SIGT: Who all is in your touring band currently? WOLF: Frank Sidoris (guitars) who plays with Slash. Jon Jourdan (guitars) who has his own band called To Whom It May, and he's also played live with Clint Lowery from Sevendust in his solo band. Garrett Whitlock (drums) who I played with in Tremonti. And Ronnie Ficarro (bass) who played in a band called I Am Ghost and Falling in Reverse. It's a killer live band. They're amazing. SIGT: How does it feel to finally have your album out to the world? WOLF: It's exciting, man! There’s a whole lot of work gearing up to it, so to have it finally be out, it’s a bit, I don’t know, like ripping my chest open with a knife because it’s literally just all me. It’s a very vulnerable position and a really weird thing. But everybody has been so wonderful in response to the album. I never could have imagined it. It's a really therapeutic thing for me, so it's not something I ever half-ass, I put literally all of myself into it because I'm playing all the instruments, too. SIGT: I'm sure putting out your first true solo album, there had to have been some insane pressure, especially with who your father is. WOLF: Yeah, there are always pressures with my position, some positive, some negative. But I wouldn't say it's really a boon or a bane compared to anybody else's experience, it's just a different path. I think from a cynical distance, it looks like, ‘Oh, it’s really easy because he’s Ed’s kid and he just gets to do that.’ Sure, the name may open doors for a second, but if you don't have the goods, you're not going to stay there. So you have to actually nut up or shut up. I think the band that we've assembled, we kill it live. I think the material stands on its own. My favorite compliments are ones where it's like, "I had no idea who this was. And when I found out who it was, I was like, oh, shit!" Hell, there are new fans who are like, "I don't even know what Van Halen is!"

616 1

SIGT: How did it feel to rip on the legendary Frankenstein guitar on “Feel”?

WOLF: It felt like I was holding glass. The funny thing was my dad pulled it out, he fiddled with it for a little bit, and then he tossed it on the couch, and everybody in the room gasped, but to him, it's just this piece of junk he put together. But to everybody else, it is the most famous instrument in the history of music. SIGT: Watching the video for "Distance" with those home movies of your father and you growing up is such an emotional and personal thing. WOLF: Yeah. I thought that was important to let people see that, because I think that people tend not to really add humanity into anything when it comes to the things they enjoy. And when it comes to music, it's like people just saw dad as this "guitar guy" and that's it. He was a person with emotions and he had a family he loved and that was more of who he was than anything else. So I think it was important to show that side. SIGT: Do you have any recent favorite records you think we should know about? WOLF: I've been really into this band called Intervals. They're this instrumental progressive rock band. Their most recent album came out at the tail-end of 2020. It's called 'Circadian'. That is one of my favorite albums of all time. It is a phenomenal guitar playing record, and it has only inspired me to be a better guitar player. Animals As Leaders' new album is insane as well. SIGT: Is there anything you would like to say to the RockVillains this year? WOLF: I'm just excited to get there. It's going to be my first Rockville and I've always wanted to play Rockville, so I'm very excited. I hope everybody has a good time. SIGT: What's next for Mammoth? WOLF: I'm looking to get back in the studio before the end of the year to get this to get the second album going. You can always follow me or the band on all the socials for sure for updates and/or sarcasm!

A CHAT WITH JOHN DYER BAIZLEY OF

SIGT: It seems like you have this ability to consciously turn around, look back, and evaluate your path before making adjustments and moving forward. JOHN: Well, thank you. I think it's obligatory for the artist to constantly, nearly always, be looking back into both the near and distant past in order to find perspective, balance, and meaning to what you've done. More importantly, to evaluate things that need improvement or places where there is space to grow, adapt, and evolve. The music we write and perform, it's all very personal. It’s based on experience, interpretations, self-introspection, and turning the mirror inwards. In some ways it's about the process of making art. We're built on adaptation and evolution. That's always going to be a key aspect of not just what we do, but the way that we do it. SIGT: It’s high-level goal oriented, where you always have the second or third goal ready once your current goal is accomplished. JOHN: Right. And I think the real trick is in having goals and dreams and things to shoot for. Let the thing that you're making guide you as much as you guide it. What could be more beautiful and adventurous than the act of discovery—finding something about yourself, art, and music that you didn't know. SIGT: That's beautiful, man. It seems like you aim for clarity in this human experience of life, music, art, and making sense of existence. Where do you find the strength to continuously push towards clarity?

22

“Let the thing that you're making guide you as much as you guide it.”

JOHN: Well, just the simple fact is that clarity is never going to make itself known to you. It's entirely about the process. It's entirely about the adventure. I don't think anybody sets out on a destination and when they look back on it all they remember is arriving at the destination. You remember the entire journey. I would say that's why 95% of every musician plays music... Because it is an adventure. SIGT: Do you have any advice for someone who is looking for ways to improve their sense of self or their level of discipline, or just somebody who's looking for an outlet? JOHN: That's a big question. I'll try to narrow it down. I will say that I think that no matter what stage you're at in life, no matter what you believe your skill set is, I can tell you with 100% assurance you can create art, you can sing a song, and you can create music. The act of writing, the act of drawing, painting, singing, playing an instrument, etc. is a valuable thing to do no matter where you're at. I don't think it's ever too late to start. If you find yourself wanting in this world and you don't have a creative outlet, for instance, writing poetry, lyrics, singing, instruments, art, whatever it is, just start, pick it up and go. I think anybody can get a piece of paper and a pencil. You have it in your house right now and just see what happens. Just enjoy it. It just brings you back in touch with an earlier version of yourself. I think that many of us lament the loss of childhood and adolescence. I think it is a direct conduit to it. Release yourself from your expectations. It's not easy for me, but it's rewarding. You truly are only doing it for yourself. You won't regret the hour that you spend expressing yourself. SIGT: What do you look forward to at Rockville this year? JOHN: I look forward to walking onto a giant stage and seeing a sea of people. We like to walk around the festival grounds after our set. So, if you see us walking around, please come up and say “Hi” to us!

SIGT: I got to tell you, I just became a dad six weeks ago, so I'm just entering this journey. L J: Mitch, Congratulations, man. What a blessing, brother. Wow, I'm so happy for you. That's so exciting. You know what, man? It's life changing. It definitely opens you. It's an amazing trip. He’s going to be your best buddy. SIGT: Wow, man. Thank you so much. L J: I tell you what's so funny. I'm back here to pick my kid up at school, and was actually the first time they were allowing parents to eat lunch. So I went and picked up two Happy Meals, one for me and one for him. And we sat together at lunch today. So you get to do things like that, man. He was so excited to see me. SIGT: You're one of the few bands performing at Rockville this year with all original members since ‘94. Just listening to your music over the years, your style remains true and unique to this day. It feels like you're still having fun after all of these years and you're still able to tap into that true magic that is in a Sevendust record. L J: Absolutely, man. That's one of the cool things about being in this band of brothers; we've been able to create that magic when we get together and write music. It's always been like that for us. And I look forward to doing it again and again and again. It's definitely been cool. SIGT: Well, you guys are coming up on 30 years of Sevendust in 2024. How does it feel to be coming up on a 30th anniversary still crushing the stage like you guys do? L J: Crazy! I don't think about it until you ask the question. I feel very fortunate to still be able to be out there and relevant enough in this frugal music industry that we are in. It's very important. It makes sense because we've worked hard. We've been doing it for so long. It's just a part of our DNA, if that makes sense. It's what we do. So it's a blessing to be around for this long run. I hope they put us in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and all kinds of things. I want us to go down in history as one of those bands that made a difference and didn't write songs that matter. I just wanted to always write music that people understood and lasts. SIGT: You just wrapped up the first leg of the Animosity 21st Anniversary Tour, but the second leg is going to end at Rockville. How does it feel to be playing this whole album on the road again?

42

L J: You know what? We asked ourselves, do people really want to see this? Do they want to hear this? What's going on? Yes, this is exactly what they wanted. I am 49 years old now. It’s amazing to see the young people, but then all the old people and then the people

that hadn't been back out since ‘Animosity’, man, it's mind-blowing to see the energy. It's a really emotional evening and everyone has a good time. Like you said when you asked, I couldn't believe it was going to be like this. We just took it to the West Coast and it was just hopping every night. SIGT: Do you feel like you are connecting to a younger LJ through these songs when you're performing them live all these years later? L J: Oh, yeah, definitely. I definitely feel younger. I feel like I'm still hanging out. I can hang with them young cats. I mean, I might not be hanging out with them, but I still hang with them. If you know what I mean? Especially having kids, man, and just being around them. SIGT: How has your journey into fatherhood brought you more discipline in your music career? L J: No matter what, even out there on the road, I still know that I'm Daddy. Things definitely changed me, but those kids changed me. I definitely think about them when I write. I think about them whenever I do whatever I'm doing. I can tell you a story. My son got to see the show in Anaheim recently. They came on stage. It was great. After the show, when I was alone with him, I asked, “Hey, man, how did you like the show?” And he looked at me and he said, “You know, dad, it was amazing.” He was like, “It was like a movie. It was better than the movie. I can't get it out of my mind.” As a father, it cheered me up because I get what he's saying. Think about when you watched ET or (The) Lost Boys as a kid, you couldn't get them out of your mind. He saw it like that. He really gets it. It was something he really enjoyed that much. It just kind of melted my heart a little bit.

"It's a blessing to be around for this long run. I want us to go down in history as one of those bands that made a difference." 25 52

A CHAT WITH LZZY HALE OF

LZZY: Yes, I am, probably the heaviest guitar that I own. That was just because of my pride because when they were making it for me, they're like, “do you want us to chamber this?” And I'm like, “no, it'll be fine.” It's a double neck SG and I just did not realize what I was getting myself. So, you know, I've been lifting weights to make sure I'm prepared for that again. But yeah, I still have the double neck standard up top, baritone on bottom. I also have a gold top Explorer baritone that I take out with me and I use for a bunch of songs including “I Get Off” and “Freak Like Me.” That's usually in drop B. I have my OG signature Explorer, though very beat up right now. And I have a new guitar that I'm debuting, a red and black Explorer. I put the 70’s pickups in it so it just screams a little harder, with a rosewood neck, Explorer body, and Firebird headstock. It's beautiful. I've been calling it the “Explorer Bird.” They ended up making that for me right before the world changed, so I got to use it all throughout our new record [Back From The Dead, May 06, 2022]. SIGT: How about the Jerry Cantrell Wah, are you still rocking that? LZZY: I am. I've gone through a couple of them because apparently I stomp them pretty hard. To the point that it's become an inside joke with both me and Mr. Cantrell. Every time we see each other, either at a festival or an event or a show, he will seek me out and then proceed to lay down on the floor so I can actually physically step on him with my heels. I'm pretty sure he's got a thing about that. We have to make it very literal every time that we see each other. So, yes, I do step on him, both proverbially and literally. SIGT: You started playing guitar at a young age. Do you have any advice for younger fans interested in making music? LZZY: It's all about grabbing onto whatever you like and not giving up when things seem a little bit too hard. Nothing is ever unreachable. You have to constantly be reminding yourself of things that came before that were hard. Everything is hard. If you want to write a song, it's hard. If you want to play an instrument, it's hard. If you want to record an album, it's hard. If you want to go on tour, it's hard. If you want to keep a band together, it's hard. But it's worth it to make that effort. SIGT: You also mentioned that this new album has helped you a lot with your identity and mental health. Do you have any advice for someone who is indeed struggling with identity or purpose or meaning? LZZY: When things get really dark, you can get lost in it. But really it's all within you. You are the only one that is going to be standing in your way, and you're the only one that can save you. That's something that I learned through writing this new album. And there is something about the arts that really helps everybody get through things. So I always encourage people, even if you're not a writer, to take up Free Writing, which is basically just word vomiting onto a page for, like, four pages. It's like you're venting to somebody, or cleaning out your closet, so to speak. I encourage everybody to try it.

“You are the only one that is going to be standing in your way, and you're the only one that can save you.”

SIGT: Are you still rocking that double neck guitar with the baritone on the bottom?

SIGT: Do you have any favorite wines that you think we should try? LZZY: My usual go-to is, honestly, it's about $12 to $14, so it's not an expensive bottle wine, and you can get it at any store, the Josh wines [Josh Cellars]. That's usually kind of what I'm used to. I guess I have cheap taste. So I recommend just a nice little mid-range bottle of wine. SIGT: Is there anything else you'd like to say to the fans at Rockville this year? LZZY: To our fans at Rockville and just the fans of Rock in general, not even specifically our fans as Halestorm. But thank you so much for keeping this genre alive and well, even through everything that we've gone through the past couple of years. And I cannot wait to celebrate that fellowship, that communion, and scream our anthems of survival now that we're on the other side and celebrate the triumphant return of live music with all of you. So I'll see all your sweaty faces real soon! xo

A CHAT WITH COURTNEY LAPLANTE OF

“I'm collaborating with different mediums of art. It communicates with other worlds of people”

24

SIGT: You're releasing some print media of your own, a graphic novel: Eternal Blue, a Spiritbox Graphic Novel drops May 31? COURTNEY: Yes, I'm so excited. There's never been a piece of art I've been a part of before where I'm collaborating with different mediums of art. I've learned so much. It has made me appreciate just how difficult creating a visually appealing comic book is, because every panel is so important. I really wanted the story to reflect a lot of my fears and anxieties and then interpret that into a magical world that pushes further the themes from my lyrics and Eternal Blue. It's funny because I didn't intend for the protagonist to be me or anything, but some of me just slipped into that story. I think it's probably really difficult for authors to not put a bit of themselves into whoever in the story they're most passionate about. Usually, the protagonist. Eva is a pop artist. As in, she's a painter, so I thought we wouldn't have as much in common. But she's like me in a parallel universe where I got my shit together earlier on in life. I think a lot of people will resonate with her and her fears and hopefully her triumphs as well. SIGT: I've only been given the little snippet of the story, “Eva allows the spirit box to transport her to a surreal world where she finds herself trapped in a realm where all our false shadows become real and dangerous.” My initial interpretation of a “Spiritbox” was more like, our bodies are a box used for our spirits, literally. But this kind of suggests the “spirit box” is more of a device, perhaps. Can you give me insight on that? COURTNEY: Yeah. This is kind of our own little twist on where the band got its name. So a “Spirit Box” is a real device I think is called an SB7 [see Ghost Adventures]. It communicates with other worlds of people that are no longer in this realm through very quickly scanning radio frequencies. So if you ever hear anything that sounds like radio chatter in any of our songs or anything weird like scanning radio wave noises, they're actually kind of a nod to the band name. In the story, I really like the spirit box being a physical item, which needs a key that grounds someone to their world or the other world, like a tether to the other world. But what it really does… that you will have to find out.

SIGT: That’s awesome. You wrapped up the Underoath tour almost a month ago now, and it ended right here in Florida. When that tour was announced, Every Time I Die was the main support, and you guys were the special guest under them. And then, of course, Every Time I Die disbanded and you guys were bumped to main support. I knew that you guys had made it because like, no one talked shit! We were all stoked. How was it for you and your band to be welcomed in with open arms like that? COURTNEY: We really wanted to be the opening band on the tour specifically, so that we would get to play for 30 minutes and build up our stamina and have a sound check. So the second that all this started happening [with ETID], we were like, oh, God, are they going to make us be direct support? We need production and we don't even have the crew to have production to help us roll lights off the stage. But if there was ever a band for us to have to rise to the occasion for, I can't really think of a better band than Underoath. Their crew was so helpful to us. Everyone pitched in to try to get us feeling confident. And Underoath still let us have a sound check every night. So it was awesome. We learned so much. I think we became a lot stronger, better musicians on the tour, and most importantly, got confidence and learned so much from these other bands because they've been doing it for so long. SIGT: How do you feel leading up to Rockville and getting back in front of 50,000 people on the festival stage? COURTNEY: Well, funny story, last year, I had to do three days of dental surgery the week of Rockville. Our Rockville set was Thursday, so Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, I had to keep going back to the dentist, getting my full mouth injected with the numbing stuff, like in my gums. On Thursday they tried to do it without numbing my mouth because I was like, I have to go sing, and I need my mouth to calm down. So they tried it without it, but it was so painful that they had to put the injections in. I don't mean that I couldn't sing, but my lips didn't have full feeling yet. As long as I don't have to go do dental surgery before the show, I feel like I'm going to do a good job and it's going to be really fun! Photo by Alex Bemis

Q&A WITH

GALA: The Star Wars franchise is legendary and to participate in the Fallen Order video game was incredibly exciting. We definitely are fans of the Star Wars movies and the games. As artists, we appreciate the energy the games bring into our lives and think the rock music world is closely aligned with the gaming industry because of the vibes and energy these two bring to the viewers and listeners. Producer Dashka wrote the songs in a way that uniquely fits into the fantasy world that Star Wars created, so it meant so much when the songs were widely appreciated by everyone. SIGT: Your lyrics have many messages of gratitude, protecting nature, and respecting your history, ancestors, and the land from which you came. While we may not understand the language, we, as fans, can certainly feel the sincerity in your message. How do you approach writing lyrics?

THE HU IS: Gala /// Lead Throat Singer & Morin Khuur Enkush /// Lead Morin Khuur and Throat Singer Jaya /// Tumur Khuur, Tsuur, & Throat Singer Temka /// Tovshuur Dashka /// Producer

SIGT: Could you share something unique about your culture which always brings you hope, positivity, or discipline? THE HU: Mongolian culture is full of wisdom. On top of respecting elders, we heavily believe in sustainable lifestyles and eco-friendliness to preserve nature. We also believe in the circle of life, having a healthy environment brings hope for our future generations, and positivity all around. SIGT: Your music videos are cinematic masterpieces. Where was “Yuve Yuve Yu” filmed and why did you choose this location? DASHKA: Thank you for your comment. I chose the locations because of the landscapes that could be viewed in camera in its entirety, we traveled about 5000 km and shot the video in three different locations. “Yuve Yuve Yu” song’s lyrics are about empowerment and carries a message to our future generations but it also shows the beauty of Mongolian nature in various different angles. SIGT: You wrote a song for the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order ™ video game. You even wrote a Star Wars language to sing in the song. As fans of Star Wars, do you play the games? How important is the connection between the rock music world and the video game world?

DASHKA: We certainly appreciate our fans who try to understand our message and learn more. The process of writing lyrics includes researching our ancestors and reading ancient books about their lifestyles. There are many aspects of the past which we can learn from and apply in our lives today, such as sustainability and mindfulness of nature and most importantly to be respectful to one another. Our fans can expect more of these lyrics in the future as well! SIGT: What is your favorite thing about touring America? GALA: The best thing about touring is getting to meet with our fans all over the world and especially in America. We have performed in almost every state and met with so many different people and their excitement makes the whole journey even more amazing. SIGT: What do you miss the most about your home when you’re touring America? ENKUUSH: Although touring is great in a lot of ways, missing your family can be hard. Especially, if you have young kids, it is that much harder but it helps to have a supportive partner and we are very lucky in that regard. SIGT: The Deluxe Edition of your album The Gereg features a version of “Song of Women” with Lzzy Hale adding vocals. She compliments the vibe of this song perfectly. How did you connect with Lzzy? ENKUUSH: I agree with you, Lzzy Hale is an incredible artist with an awesome vocal range and she was just a delight to work with and collaborate on a song. We hope to work with her again sometime in the future. SIGT: When can we expect new music from The Hu? DASHKA: New album is coming very soon and we are continuously working to bring new music to our fans. SIGT: We are so stoked you are coming to Rockville to perform this year! Is there anything you would like to say to the Rockville fans reading this? EVERYONE: We are thrilled to be performing at the Rockville as well! Let’s rock on together! See you at Rockville!

SIGT: I see you're an ‘86 baby as well. So cheers to that. LILITH: Hell yeah. What month are you born in? SIGT: May … 26th. LILITH: So you are a Gemini. I'm a Pisces, slightly older than you. SIGT: You grew up in the Tampa Bay/Clearwater area? LILITH: I did. I was born in San Francisco, California. When I was around two years old, we moved to San Diego where we lived until I was about ten. Then we moved to Florida. My teenage years were spent in the Tampa Bay/Clearwater area. Then when I was 16, I got signed and started spending so much of my time in LA and on the road. SIGT: Does Florida still feel like a home coming to you? LILITH: It does. LA kind of felt like a waiting room. Every time we got home from a tour, it didn't feel like we were going home. It felt like we were going to a place we were familiar with to wait to do the next thing. And every time we visited Florida to see my family for the holidays, it felt like we were going home. Me and my husband [Andy Black] moved to Florida recently over the last couple of months. When we finally moved here, we both felt this calmness and peacefulness in making the move. Yeah, it feels like home. I love the weather. The music scene is great. I absolutely adore Florida. SIGT: How does it feel to finally be on this new path as Lilith Czar, sailing forward? LILITH: It's very empowering. It feels like I'm finally living my truth. People evolve throughout their life. They change, they grow, they learn through lessons. During the Pandemic, I was really able to look at my entire life and see how I've changed and evolved to become a different person. I could see where I wanted myself to be at the end of this lockdown and in the future. That entails a story I wanted to tell with this record. I wanted to put this metamorphosis into the most artistic way possible in order to bring my fans along on this self-discovery and transformation journey I was on. I wanted to bring them with me so they could go through it themselves as well. SIGT: How has the response to your debut Lilith Czar album, ‘Created from Filth and Dust’, been on the road?

“It feels like I’m finally living my truth.” LILITH: I can say without a shadow of a doubt, I have never had this experience as a touring musician. In Automatic Loveletter [circa 2007], I was an actual teenager. You think you know things, but you don't know shit. Then as Juliet Simms I went through the whole The Voice thing and kind of falling off the deep end, with substance abuse and having to pull myself out of that. So to come out with Lilith Czar and ‘Created from Filth and Dust’, and to have a clear head, six-years sober, I know who I am, I know what I want to say, I know where my convictions are. I’m saying everything I want to say. I'm singing everything I want to sing. And the fact it is getting the response that it's getting solidifies for me, that I am completely on the right path. SIGT: Your knowledge of the human voice as an instrument is superior, and you've been compared to Stevie Nicks’ seductive Witchery. Where do you draw your inspirations to push your vocal abilities? LILITH: I started singing when I was three or four years old. I was listening to what my parents were having me listen to, Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin, Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, The Eagles, all the classics. So the classic rock sound is embedded in my bones. Those were my first teachers. In my 20s, I actually had my first singing lesson. The singing instructor I went to was like, “okay, stop. If you keep singing this way, you're not going to be able to sing by the time you're 35,” because I had no technique. In the last few years, I've really cracked down on singing lessons, vocal techniques, and even speech therapy—learning how to speak correctly in order for it to not harm your singing voice. Your speaking voice is actually more harmful for singers than their singing voice. SIGT: Wow. Well, your enunciation is on point. LILITH: Part of speech therapy is you have to create the space in the back of your mouth in order for your vocal cords to have the words come out without them rubbing up against each other. You have to imagine a golf ball essentially, in the back of your throat. And what that naturally does is it makes you enunciate more. You speak more clearly, and then it's not harming your voice at all. SIGT: Is there anything else or anything you'd like to say to the fans coming to Rockville this year? LILITH: When I saw the line up, my jaw dropped to the floor. I'm so honored to be a part of this. It's going to be an absolutely unforgettable time. Let's fucking have a blast and rock out together. I can't wait to see you at Rockville!

In his 6th year with the festival, Ron has partnered with Hard Rock Beverages in 2022 to show up for our Rockvillians bigger and better than ever! In addition to his gallery of 25+ custom guitars, art, and merchandise, Ron continues the tradition of allowing fans to win one of his highly coveted, limited edition, all hand-painted Welcome to Rockville guitars and purchase the wildly popular 10-inch mini replicas! And for the first time, Ron will debut his Rock Star Paint Class to our festival grounds. Sign up to paint your very own Rock Star with Ron and unleash your inner Picasso on Daytona!

THE BLACKENED WHISKEY BAR The Whiskey Bar presented by BLACKENED American Whiskey is a DWP must-do! Our partners at BLACKENED hand-crafted a super premium blend of straight bourbons & ryes, which is finished in black brand casks and sonically-enhanced to extract more flavor from the casks, a process dubbed BLACK NOISE. Created by the late, legendary Master Distiller Dave Pickerell and the almighty Metallica, BLACKENED is now overseen by Master Distiller & Blender Rob Dietrich who guards Dave’s recipe and is responsible for the sourcing, blending, and finishing to bring us this award-winning, 90-proof American whiskey. Electrify your tastebuds with carefully crafted cocktails at this exclusive DWP experience. 21+

We probably don’t need to convince you that depression is real, that treating addiction isn’t as simple as “just stopping," or that suicide has robbed too many of us of too many memories. You already know that these words are attached to names and faces, and they may even remind you of the person you see in the mirror every day. This is not an attempt to raise awareness; rather it's an invitation to move the conversation forward with more compassion and grace. We invite you to visit the @TWLOHA booth on-site for information on mental health resources, opportunities to share your story, and the space to feel less alone, more hopeful, and connected to folks at the festival who believe your presence has made Welcome To Rockville a better place.

TAKE ME HOME Take Me Home is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based foundation that has been saving the lives of homeless animals since 2001. The donations raised at Welcome To Rockville help us to fund mobile veterinary hospitals that travel to under-served areas to provide free spay and neuter, vaccinations, microchipping, and administer medical care for animals in desperate need. Take Me Home also supports local animal charities. Come by the booth to help out our furry friends by buying a shirt, signed merchandise, and entering a raffle!

FXCK CANCER Fxck Cancer’s mission is to fight cancer by raising awareness and educating about early detection. Through our Dyin 2 Live Dreams wish-granting program, we look to offer cancer fighters an experience that will bring hope, courage, and inspiration. Visit us onsite at Welcome to Rockville to get involved. Together We Fight. Fuck Cancer!

PUNK ROCK & PAINTBRUSHES x ROCK AGAINST RACISM Punk Rock & Paintbrushes is proud to announce that they will be a part of the Welcome To Rockville Festival with an on-site art exhibit that will showcase pieces from those playing at the festival and visual artists within the music community. This year they will also be teaming up with Rock Against Racism, an organization that brought together fans of all races in their shared love of music to discourage young people from embracing racism. Together they will be debuting their latest art collaborations with "Art on Shoes" generously provided by TUK Footwear and created by a variety of band members playing at the festival with an on-site art auction to raise funds and awareness. Artists include but are not limited to: James “Munky” Schaffer of KORN, Mike Gallo of Agnostic Front, & Charlie Benante of Anthrax.

IN MEMORY OF

OLIVER TAYLOR HAWKINS FEBRUARY 17, 1972 - MARCH 25, 2022 “It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother, Taylor Hawkins. We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together.”

WITH LOVE,
