Phil first embarked on a plumbing career in 1975, his aim; to create a legacy for his family. It was then he started China Bathrooms, based in Morley, Leeds.

After working in the industry for many years, Phil realised that his older customer base was being taken advantage of by similar companies. They were over charging and using hard sales techniques, leaving customers feeling uneasy and at times vulnerable.

Phil wanted to counteract this sales method and launched his unique selling point, a no pressure, affordable service.

The company relocated their shop to Bury Market in Greater Manchester, allowing their customer base to discover the company in their usual shopping environment.

This way of displaying the company’s services proved very successful. However, living in Leeds and commuting to Bury took its toll over the years. This convinced the company to move back to West Yorkshire. China Bathrooms found a new home in 2014 in Castleford & Pontefract Indoor Markets.

2016 saw the introduction of Phil’s eldest daughter, Harriette and husband Simon. There was a little brand refresh, a relaunch and Shower People Ltd. was born. Shower People launched their first ever website, began to advertise and gained a social media platform to display finished work. More importantly, Phil’s Wife got her conservatory back when a permanent office was built!

The company has continued to grow, adding more shops to their portfolio: Huddersfield Market (2017-2018), Wortley, Leeds (2017-2019) and Crossgates Shopping Centre (2018-2020). Shower People’s most recent venture was their relocation within Wortley, creating an impressive flagship store, displaying one of the largest selections of walk-in baths in West Yorkshire.

In 2019 the family business welcomed Phil’s youngest daughter Henrietta to the team.

As the business continued to grow, Shower People have welcomed two new member to the family team Amanda and Rebecca to manage the office.

In 2023, with a fresh showroom revamp, the company launched kitchen fitting as a new service.

Coming soon will be a large extension to the office and showroom in LS12 with new and improved displays with more kitchens.
