Making Black History 28 Days Of Black History “Ulysha Renee Hall, first woman Police Chief of Dallas, Texas”
over 25 years of service and experience in law enforcement. The newly appointed chief was one of eight candidates, one other of which was a female.
August 20, 2017, will marked the 46th year of the last watch of Detroit, Michigan, Police Officer Ulysses Brown. Although, his time on the force was short the legacy he left was life changing. The time spent with his children was even shorter, but the impact of his life and service lives on in his daughter Ulysha Renee Hall, the first woman to ever serve as Police Chief of Dallas, Texas.
When Hall was informed of her new role she stated, “I am honored to be chosen to lead the Dallas Police Department at this critical time in its history. I look forward to building on the successes of the past, preserving community trust and ensuring the safety of our officers and the entire Dallas community.” It is also heartwarming to know that many wish the new appointed chief much success in her new endeavor, of those was from former Police Chief David Brown.
Nearly 29 years after the last watch of her father, Hall started her career in law enforcement with the Detroit Police Department. Although, law enforcement was not her first choice for a career it has become the most rewarding for her.
Growing up without a father like many African American children did in Detroit, Hall could have chosen a different journey in life, but with the guidance of her mother and the memory and legacy of her father’s service, Chief Ulysha Renee Hall will now begin a new era in history as the CFO “Chief Female Officer” of Dallas, The newly appointed chief is a Graduate of Gramon September 5, 2017. bling State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and has a Master’s degree in We salute you Chief Hall and welcome to the Security Administration and Intelligence Analysis from home of the Cowboys! the University of Detroit Mercy. My name is Karmel Kiss. I am born and raised in Oklahoma City where I graduated from Luther High School. At the age of 13 I started my career with Barbizon Institute after my 2 year contract was over I decided to go independent. I began to get booked with photographers to do photoshoots and for fashion shows. In my 20’s I wanted to do more so I took some time away from it all and started to build my brand. In my 30’s I was diagnosed with breast cancer, at that moment I felt my life was over, but with support of my mom and my daughter and my friends I wasn’t going to let cancer win. I rebranded myself, started doing events in Oklahoma, Dallas, Houston, Miami, California, St Louis and more. I started promoting underground artists and signed a 3 year contract with Supa Unit where I was a head model and a model scout.

After that contract I decided it was time to get my own company. With the help of my best friend we started Kiss Sarai. With Kiss Sarai came Karmel Kiss‌‌I decided I wanted to push all boundaries. I became a nude model signed contracts to be the face of High Roller Group, became the Milk Goddess started my own clothing line, finishing my very first movie, working on a fashion show and also signed a contract to have my own phone case line as well. Young Prince aka YP was born
1981. and from a very early age music was a strong part of my upbringing. My mom was one of the most influential person who truly had a big part in the type of music I listen to. I fell in love with the sound of music way before I fell for the stories being told. The sounds of miles Davis, Kenny g made me want to make a sound that would forever be understood because you could feel the music not just hear it. Then it went to people like Biggie, 2pac, Naz, jay z, the lox, Eric band Rakim, the doc and some of the other greats that got me into the story telling and let’s be clear I can’t forget about the heavy hitters from Houston Scarface 5thwardboys and D.E.A. etc.... And this is why I take my craft so seriously cause to get that sound and type of response from the people is what it’s all for.

Born Darron Thomas in Greenville Texas
on December 10, 1981. DT the Mayor grew up in Dallas’s druginfested streets of Fair Oaks and Park Lane in North Dallas. He used basketball and music as an escape, taking piano as an elective during middle school, while playing for the Franklin Falcons. Piano was not offered as an elective at Hilcrest Dallas, so instead of joining the band or choir, basketball became the focus. Ending shortly after making Varsity because of a broken ankle. Upon graduation, joining the Navy would provide the opportunity to allow a bridge for connecting a love of music to a possible gain in revenue. Writing, writing, writing, and writing shaped a poet that loves to recite over dope beats. Influenced by the likes of UGK, Outkast, Triple 6 Mafia, Bone Thugz, Jay Z, Wu-Tang, Big and Pac, Project Pat, No Limit Records, Ludacris, and countless others. The Mayor is looking to provide the mind, body and soul what it needs. Years and years of focusing on a craft produced “LIT”. An album comprised of soulful melodies, hard hitting bass, and lyrics that tell a story. If you listen close enough, it might take you to a place where you first feel in love with hip hop. LIT is out now and available for digital download anywhere you can get music.

Bigger Isn’t Always Better
They say everything is BIGGER in Texas. Well having the biggest number of flu cases and flu related deaths are not something we Texans are proud of. For the 2017-208 flu season Texas has ranked the highest with an increase from last season to this season state hospital labs reported 59 positive flu tests for the week of Dec. 18-26 in 2016. For the same week 2017 (Dec. 17-23), that number grew to 777 — that’s a 1,216 percent increase. According to Walgreen’s collected data San Antonio area ranks ninth in the country. The Tyler and Longeview region ranks number one. According to this data all the other states have relatively low number of flu outbreak cases. Due to certain mutated strain of influenza and the spread from country to county has caused the vaccine to only be 10% effective. Nationwide, 20 children have died of the flu this season, dozens of schools were closed down for a “super clean” to protect the children and staff. Texas flu death toll tops 4000, most adult deaths also had underlining health issues that made them more venerable to the mutated flu strand. Here is the Walgreen’s map of the data collected.
Keep your family safe this flu season. • As soon as you feel ill got to the doctor, so they can be prescribed antiviral medication, which works best within the first two days of symptoms. • Health officials recommend that people over the age of six months get the flu vaccine • By practicing good hygiene and health habits, including washing hands frequently, wiping down work spaces, drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding those who are sick, will reduce risk of contracting the virus.
