New Environmental Center Now Open
Ramsey County’s Environmental Center opened April 1. This new facility will make it easier for residents to reduce, reuse, repair and recycle.
Features include:

• Electronics, food scraps and general recycling.
• A free product reuse room.

The environmental center is located at 1700 Kent Street in Roseville. It will be open year-round, Tuesdays through Fridays, 11 am to 6 pm and Saturdays, 9 am to 4 pm and closed on county holidays.
You are invited to join the county’s celebrations during Earth week! The first 200 participants dropping off household hazardous waste or electronics on Tuesday, April 22 will receive free giveaways. On Thursday, April 24, there will be an open house from 6 – 8 pm on Saturday, April 26, the county will host a Fix-It Clinic at the facility from 10 am – 1 pm.
Green Community Awards
Residents, businesses, and other organizations are recognized each year with the green community awards from the Shoreview Environmental Quality Committee. Awards are given to those who take steps to improve water quality, install renewable energy, or use eco-friendly practices. Winners are recognized at a city council meeting and receive a small lawn sign.

Sustainability at the Slice
Food vendors at the Slice of Shoreview use compostable or recyclable materials. Help us reduce the waste produced at the festival by throwing leftover food and other compostable materials in the green containers. This material will be composted at an industrial compost facility.

Take action now - Ash tree removals
Make a plan for removal of your ash tree if you have not been treating it.
Property owners are asked to remove untreated ash trees on private property by the end of 2025.
Ash trees are infested by emerald ash borer (EAB), an invasive insect that attacks and kills ash trees native to Minnesota. Treating ash trees with an insecticide trunk injection is effective when it is started early as a preventative strategy. Many trees that have not already been treated are too heavily infested for treatment.

Do I Need A Permit?
Planning to update or upgrade your lawn this summer? These popular projects can give your property’s appearance a boost and raise your home’s curb appeal. Each of these projects need a permit from the city before work begins.
Grading & excavating
Work to level your yard, re-landscape areas of your yard or any digging and disruption of the soil.
Driveways & patios
Repaving or replacing driveways, including concrete, pavers, and blacktop.
Porches & decks
Building or replacing porches or decks on any side of the home.
Fences & irrigation systems
Installing these common lawn features requires a permit. Invisible fences and irrigation systems should be installed at least six feet away from the curb to avoid damage from street construction and maintenance work.
Accessory structures
Building or replacing any additional structures on the property. This includes sheds, built-in fire pits, garages, and gazebos.

Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind if you’re planning a garage sale this summer.
• You can hold two garage sales each year at your home
• Sales can last up to four days each
• Sales must be held between 7 am and 10 pm
• Signs cannot be larger than 12 square feet or be greater than 12 feet in height
• Up to four signs are allowed per property

Pick up after your pet!
Dog waste that gets washed into water bodies by rain and snow melt can lead to algal blooms, harmful bacteria, and poor habitat for aquatic animals. Put pet waste in the trash to help keep our lakes and rivers clean!

New for 2025! Shoreview is offering a native plant sale in partnership with MNL. Native plants offer a beautiful way to create habitat, absorb stormwater, and enhance your yard. Purchase a kit of native plants at discounted prices from the options listed below.
Each kit consists of a tray of 36 plants, six plants of six different species. Recommend planting in a 40-60 square foot area. See website for list of species often appearing in each kit. Species in kits vary according to inventory and availability and will be finalized after ordering.

Dementia Caregiver Support Group With Respite Care
This support group is led by a trained facilitator from Alzheimer’s Speaks. Your loved one can enjoy activities in a nearby room. The program is free. Registration requested but drop– ins are welcome if space is available. Meetings are the last Wednesday of the month.

Join us for the fourth annual Age Friendly University Day at McNamara Alumni Center. This event brings over 200 retirees, older Minnesotans, and lifelong learners together for an engaging, inspiring day. This year's offerings include a historical tour of the university campus (on an accessible bus) narrated by the university architect, an interactive session with author Andrea Gilats, "Writing Our Lives", over 30 resource booths, a keynote address, and a special guest during lunch

What is the Age Friendly movement? The Age Friendly movement started in 2006 to mobilize communities to share resources for creating livable environments for all ages, especially older adults. Kids Corner Preschool offers full–day prekindergarten preparedness classes and half–day preschool classes. Located inside the community center, our programs focus on social, emotional, physical, and cognitive learning. Our goal is to make sure all students feel welcomed, have fun, and develop a passion for lifetime learning.

Music Together
Sing, laugh, move and learn along with your baby, toddler or preschooler in these award–winning classes. The little ones love the delightful, engaging classes and the caregivers love helping their children grow into confident, life–long music makers.

Rhythm Kids
Students will learn to compose, choreograph, and conduct as they play with a variety of musical instruments: West African drums, percussion instruments, along with their own voices and bodies. While they are having fun, they’ll be refining focus, dexterity, coordination, and rhythm – all things they’ll use every day for the rest of their lives.

Swiftie Dance Party
Learn steps and dances to music from your favorite popstar! The students will also learn warm–ups such as stretching, isolations, and across the floor exercises. Babysitting Boot Camp
Join our babysitting boot camp and learn the basics of babysitting and first aid! Participants will learn to provide safe, responsible care for children, as well as develop skills in leadership, safety, and first aid. Green and White Volleyball Camp Boys and Girls
Come join local high school coach Tom Weko for two weeks of learning the game of volleyball. Players will be grouped by grade and playing ability with a maximum 8:1 player to coach ratio. Fundamental skills will be taught based on age and ability. Contests and games will be held daily. Participants should bring knee pads, wide wristbands (optional), a water bottle, and a great attitude. Participants will receive a t–shirt. Register based on child’s grade for the 2025–26 school year.
