New Environmental Center Now Open Ramsey County’s Environmental Center opened April 1. This new facility will make it easier for residents to reduce, reuse, repair and recycle.

The environmental center is located at 1700 Kent Street in Roseville. It will be open year-round, Tuesdays through Fridays, 11 am to 6 pm and Saturdays, 9 am to 4 pm and closed on county holidays.

You are invited to join the county’s celebrations during Earth week! The first 200 participants dropping off household hazardous waste or electronics on Tuesday, April 22 will receive free giveaways. On Thursday, April 24, there will be an open house from 6 – 8 pm on Saturday, April 26, the county will host a Fix-It Clinic at the facility from 10 am – 1 pm.

City News Green Community Awards Residents, businesses, and other organizations are recognized each year with the green community awards from the Shoreview Environmental Quality Committee.

Awards are given to those who take steps to improve water quality, install renewable energy, or use eco-friendly practices. Winners are recognized at a city council meeting and receive a small lawn sign.

Sustainability at the Slice Food vendors at the Slice of Shoreview use compostable or recyclable materials. Help us reduce the waste produced at the festival by throwing leftover food and other compostable materials in the green containers.

This material will be composted at an industrial compost facility.

Take action now - Ash tree removals Make a plan for removal of your ash tree if you have not been treating it.

Property owners are asked to remove untreated ash trees on private property by the end of 2025.

Ash trees are infested by emerald ash borer (EAB), an invasive insect that attacks and kills ash trees native to Minnesota. Treating ash trees with an insecticide trunk injection is effective when it is started early as a preventative strategy.

Many trees that have not already been treated are too heavily infested for treatment.

•

Ask about the company’s certifications and experience

Home Improvement Loans Loan amounts from $2,000 - $50,000 are available with fixed below-market rates and terms up to 15 years.

Manufactured Home Improvement Loans Loans up to $10,000 are available with below-market rates and terms up to 10 years.

Down Payment Assistance (First-time Homebuyers) Loans up to $30,000 or 5% of purchase price are available with fixed below-market rates and terms up to 30 years. Single-family homes, townhomes, twin homes or duplexes, and condominiums with a maximum purchase price of $425,000 are eligible. **If you are below 80% area median income, you could qualify for the first $20,000 of the down payment assistance to be due upon sale.

Do I Need A Permit?

Planning to update or upgrade your lawn this summer?

These popular projects can give your property’s appearance a boost and raise your home’s curb appeal. Each of these projects need a permit from the city before work begins.

Grading & excavating Work to level your yard, re-landscape areas of your yard or any digging and disruption of the soil.

Driveways & patios Repaving or replacing driveways, including concrete, pavers, and blacktop.

Porches & decks Building or replacing porches or decks on any side of the home.

Fences & irrigation systems Installing these common lawn features requires a permit.

Invisible fences and irrigation systems should be installed at least six feet away from the curb to avoid damage from street construction and maintenance work.

Overnight & special event parking Having out-of-town visitors or a large family gathering? Overnight parking permits can be requested for up to seven days for a special event, guests, or construction.

Overnight parking is not otherwise permitted between 2 – 5 am on Shoreview streets.

Accessory structures Building or replacing any additional structures on the property. This includes sheds, built-in fire pits, garages, and gazebos.

Sales can last up to four days each

•

Sales must be held between 7 am and 10 pm

With this tool you can view activity and gain a better understanding of the amount of water you use to conserve water and save on bills. Native Plant Sale New for 2025! Shoreview is offering a native plant sale in partnership with MNL. Native plants offer a beautiful way to create habitat, absorb stormwater, and enhance your yard. Purchase a kit of native plants at discounted prices from the options listed below.

Each kit consists of a tray of 36 plants, six plants of six different species. Recommend planting in a 40-60 square foot area. See website for list of species often appearing in each kit. Species in kits vary according to inventory and availability and will be finalized after ordering.

Adult Programs Day Trip to: Age Friendly Minnesota University Day Join us for the fourth annual Age Friendly University Day at McNamara Alumni Center. This event brings over 200 retirees, older Minnesotans, and lifelong learners together for an engaging, inspiring day. This year's offerings include a historical tour of the university campus (on an accessible bus) narrated by the university architect, an interactive session with author Andrea Gilats, "Writing Our Lives", over 30 resource booths, a keynote address, and a special guest during lunch Registration includes door to door transportation, event fee, breakfast and lunch.

What is the Age Friendly movement? The Age Friendly movement started in 2006 to mobilize communities to share resources for creating livable environments for all ages, especially older adults. People of all ages benefit from increased accessibility to transportation, shopping, health and related services, community activities, and affordable, adaptable housing.

Our mission is to provide inclusive swim lessons for everyone. Our fun and imaginative approach to lessons will help you create a lifelong love of swimming. Pick your best learning environment — group lessons or private lessons.

Parent–to–instructor communication is key to successful lessons. Our instructors love to teach and receive ongoing training.

Personalized high–quality tennis instruction for players who want to improve their court game. Our instructors will help you work on your groundstrokes, serves, volleys, lobs, and smashes in an individual setting. This program offers one–on–one tennis instruction for the casual or avid tennis player.
