School’s starting – football’s back, but let’s not forget we have our Men’s Invitational, a wonderful couple of months left on our course, and the annual Summer Concert featuring Niko Moon. Tickets are still on sale – so don’t miss out on the highlight of the season, Saturday night the 9th! August brings reflection and preparation for the 2026 season. It’s hard to believe, but we’ll draft and finalize the calendar by the end of September. I’ve had the pleasure of connecting with most of you in person throughout the Club, but if there should be anything you want to compliment, critique, enhance, offer, etc., please do not hesitate to reach out.
In that spirit, due to its popularity, Whitetail Burger Co. will offer Southern Style Sundays through August. Enjoy a family-style menu with fried chicken and all the fixings served every Sunday from 11 a.m. to close all month. That said, hard as it is to believe, operations begin adjusting with the seasons this month. Please see page 14 for complete details.
Take note of some wonderful social events this month, starting with the second 9 & Dine this season on August 15th. Later this month, we bring a back-to-back weekend of action with our annual Mixed Couples Ryder Cup on the 23rd and Pickleball Tournament on the 24th. And finally, over Labor Day weekend, join us for our first Trivia Night at Golf Grille on the 29th and a complimentary wine tasting featuring Joseph Drouhin on the 30th. For full details, see the One Deck section on pages 10 & 11 or the portal and app.
I know, we have been mentioning housekeeping items a lot this summer, but we cannot stress enough the importance of your safety and security. Let’s all come together to ensure we’re creating lifelong memories for one another. We have a community unlike any other, and rules are in place to keep that spirit alive. Please respect one another and help us hold each other to our Whitetail Club standards. If you see something, please say something or come to me, and we’ll take care of it.
Look forward to seeing you around the Club. Enjoy these last days of summer!
Cheers,
GAME. SET. DINK!
Have you joined the pickleball craze ?
Its origin story began in the Northwest Region of the U.S., on Bainbridge Island, located in Washington State. This popular sport was invented by two friends in 1965 through improvising with various sports equipment from badminton, tennis, and table tennis to create a fun backyard game the whole family could play together and elevate the boredom his kids were feeling. From that creativity, Joel Pritchard, congressman from Washington State, and Bill Bell, a successful businessman, invented Pickleball, now widely referred to as 'America's fastest growing sport.' While the first known tournament was held in Washington State in 1976, Sid Williams helped catapult the sport within the state and around the country from 1982 to 1998. His legacy was followed by many devotees who kept the movement going. Other contributors to the sport include Arlen Paranto, a Boeing Industrial Engineer, who developed the first composite paddle in 1984.
By 1990, the sport was being played in all 50 states, and technological advancements had advanced its sophistication. It continues to grow in popularity in communities, rec centers, and professional tournaments. As the sport has grown, Whitetail Club has expanded its programming to meet the demand.
Last year, we added outdoor courts and opened online court reservations through the app. The club's calendar includes year-round pick-up games every Monday starting at 10am, and in the summer months, members can join Pro-led summer programming. Former professional pickleball player Mike Heyer leads these weekly instructional clinics through August 20. Sunday sessions begin at 1 pm and are geared to intermediate players, and Wednesday sessions at 1 pm are for beginners. Last month, Heyer led a successful two-day intensive; see photos below.
Next on the calendar is the 10th annual Pickleball Tournament on August 24, starting at 9 am. This competition gets livelier each year. Players are invited to sign up as a co-ed doubles team. This is a Round-Robin event where all teams play each other, with the four teams accruing the most points advancing to the Championship Bracket. The championship round determines the Pickleball Champions who will be recognized at the awards ceremony following the tournament.
There are many ways to get involved! Contact the Club Concierge for private instruction or if you have questions about getting involved at the club.
Activities can be found on the calendar of events on the portal or by contacting the Club Concierge at 208.630.0245 or clubconceirge@whitetailclub.com.
