CELLAR SOCIETY

Wine, Gatherings & Experiences

September2025

Dear Whitetail Club Members,

If you haven’t heard, September is the best month here in McCall! The colors are changing and the days are getting shorter but the temperatures are still fantastic. Best of all, you don't have to schedule your Albertons visit at 6:00am or 10:00pm to avoid the lines.

The family and I are still new to the region and are in awe of the ease of access to public lands and just the beauty in our backyard…it’s like that saying, we live where people vacation! That said, the outfitters in this region are top-notch. First up, our friends at Ya-Hoo Corrals will play host for an evening trail ride and BBQ on September 5. Next, on the 20th, Driftwest will showcase the North Fork of the Payette in all her glory, and the tamaracks should be in full fall colors by then! Please call the concierge to reserve your spot.

Featured on page 5, our Beverage Manager, Cory Strobaugh, and Executive Chef, Marcus, will host Turley Wine Cellars for an evening to complement their world-renowned Lodi Zinfandel and Petite Syrah. Be sure to also see your exclusive benefits as Members with wine pricing on page 6. You may have already noticed some seasonal work in the native areas around the golf course. This process promotes the natural cycle of the varmint population, as they can be very disruptive to the grounds. Along with these normal practices, we will be closed September 8-10 on the course to allow Nick and his team to complete our annual aerification. The aerification process is an interruption, especially on our greens, but a vital process to ensure the turf health and course conditions remain at the highest level. Be sure to call the shop ahead of your early tee times this month to check for anticipated frost delays.

I mentioned it in August as well. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have anything you want to compliment, critique, enhance, offer, etc. We are rolling into the 2026 budgets and finalizing the calendar for next year, so again, your feedback is greatly appreciated.

As always, look forward to seeing you around the Club!

Cheers,

R emarkable wines are serious business at Whitetail Club. So much so that our cellar contains just under 600 different labels of wine, and we are constantly evaluating and indulging in the top vineyards' latest productions. Additionally, the events calendar boasts wine dinners and ongoing complimentary wine tastings each year, a Member Wine Program, and our renowned steakhouse has been the recipient (again) of the 2025 Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence, self-described as the "world's leading authority on wine."

In this issue, we provide a closer look at all the ways to experience wine within the curated programming of our Cellar Society at Whitetail Club.

Earlier this summer, we welcomed DAOU Vineyards, best known for world-class Bordeaux-style wines from Paso Robles, California, to our Members Only Wine Dinner. An intimate group of Members gathered at the Clubhouse to experience pours hand-selected by the winemaker and paired with a custom four-course menu. Next month, we do it all again and are excited to host Turley Wine Cellars from the Napa Valley.

Turley was founded in Napa Valley in 1993 by former emergency room physician Larry Turley. Under the guidance of winemaker Tegan Passalacqua, Turley produces historic California wines from over 50 vineyards across the state. The winery primarily focuses on Zinfandel and Petite Syrah, with many of the vines dating back to the late 1800s. The winery aims to create and preserve California's unique winemaking culture by practicing organic farming and emphasizing the importance of old vineyards for these varietals.

Christina Turley, the Vice President of Turley Wine Cellars, will attend the dinner to discuss each wine varietal selected to pair with the cuisine prepared by Chefs Marcus and Tyler. The evening will feature a passed appetizer with wine and a four-course dinner. Tickets go quickly, so be sure to RSVP soon.

Another way to experience varietals is by attending one of the many complimentary Wine Tastings, hosted by Beverage Manager, Cory Strobaugh. This summer, we sampled wines from EFESTĒ from Woodinville, Washington, and Joseph Drouhin from various regions within Burgundy, France. The next tasting opportunity is Saturday, September 27th, from 4-6pm at the Clubhouse, where we will experience Grosgrain Vineyards from Walla Walla. Check the event calendar for the most up-to-date information. Tastings are complimentary and do not require an rsvp.

A'cellar society' wouldn't be complete without a wine-buying program. Whitetail Club offers members exclusive benefits and opportunities to grow their understanding of wine and build their personal collection for their home cellar. The Wine Program offers wine to members for 20% above wholesale. For quicker service, members can choose from wines currently in our program. Beverage Manager, Cory Strobaugh, has a wine list available for your review with member pricing, or we are happy to procure wines that are distributed in Idaho for you. We will charge these orders to your member account and have them available as early as possible for pick up at the Clubhouse when convenient.

In addition to those services, we also offer cellar consultation and participate in private wine tastings for you and your guests at gatherings at home. See contact details below to request more information.

This prestigious award is given to restaurants whose wine lists display excellent breadth across multiple wine-producing regions and/or significant vertical depth of top producers, along with superior presentation, and are recognized as a destination for serious wine lovers, reflecting a deep commitment to wine service, education, and cellar quality. Tee Time

As we close out another incredible month of golf at Whitetail Club, we want to recognize and congratulate our 2025 Men's Invitational Champions, Will Hawthorne and Mike McEntee. With strong play, great teamwork, and unwavering consistency throughout the tournament, Will and Mike emerged as the 2025 Kings of the Course in a field full of talented teams. Their performance was a perfect example of competitive spirit and sportsmanship, and we thank all participants who made this year's Invitational one to remember.

After the Men's Invitational, two other competitions were held, with more winners claiming their respective titles. Congratulations to Dave and Karen Odmark and Sandy and Charlie Williams for winning the August 9&Dine. Be sure to join us for the final one of the season on September 4th. At the end of August, we held the Mixed Couples Ryder Cup, where "Team McCall" took home the title. Congratulations to Will Hawthorne, Nichol Black, Glen and Tricia Eberle, Craig and Rhonda Coles, Roger and Mary-Pat Thompson, Scott Anderson, and guest Sherry Montgomery.

As the season continues into September, we'd like to remind members that the golf course will be closed for aerification from September 8–10. This essential maintenance ensures that our playing surfaces remain healthy, firm, and smooth throughout the remainder of the season and into next year. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we take this short pause to keep the course in top condition.

Thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm this summer. From packed tee sheets to great events and memorable rounds, it's been a special season so far—and there's still plenty of great golf ahead. As always, don't hesitate to reach out to the Golf Shop for assistance with upcoming events, lessons, or to book your next tee time.

Colorful Adventure A

Another river adventure awaits at our second annual Fall Foliage Canoe Ride on Saturday, September 20th. An experienced guide from McCall's outfitter, Drift West, will lead us on this scenic adventure as we canoe along the North Fork of the Payette River.

A day on the river means being surrounded by the brilliant colors of the season as well as the impromptu sighting of local wildlife, including eagles, ospreys, deer, and elk. Our adventure begins at the clubhouse at 12:30pm, where we'll shuttle together to our starting point. Once we embark on the journey, we will stop halfway to take in the vistas and enjoy a glass of wine and small bites. With limited spots available, we encourage you to rsvp now for this exclusive opportunity.
