WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST MEMBERS!
Aaron & Sylvie Royston Resident Social Sport Pacifica, CA
Dear Whitetail Club Members,
The golf course, The Golf Shop, and The Golf Grille will be open until Sunday, October 15. The end-of-season Fall Classic Tournament will tee off at 1pm on Saturday, October 14, and all are welcome to participate. Contact The Golf Shop at 208.630.0211 today to RSVP. Whether you play or not, please plan to attend the Member Mixer that same evening, beginning at 5:30pm at The Golf Grille as we celebrate the end of a fabulous summer season while looking forward to what the winter will bring.
Beginning in November, members looking to continue to work on their swing, even after the golf course has been put to bed, can now reserve one of our Trackman simulators via the Whitetail Club Member Portal app. For specific details and a step-by-step instructional guide on how to do so, please refer to our featured editorial.
Earlier this year, we launched our Team Member Spotlight initiative, where our goal is to introduce to the membership some of our (many) talented team members who you may have not had the opportunity to meet yet. This month, we’re eager to introduce you to Kaven Blair, a vital Whitetail Club culinary team member. Kaven prefers to be called Dominic or Dom. Check out this month’s Team Member Spotlight as to why.
And, as a follow-up to our May Team Member Spotlight featuring Nancy Cienfuegos, Whitetail Club Green’s Keeper, Assistant in Training (AIT), we couldn’t be more excited to communicate that it was recently announced by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) that she was chosen to be part of the inaugural Women’s Leadership Academy. She was one of just 40 turfgrass professionals to do so. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, Nancy was recently accepted to the Rutgers University School of Golf Course & Turf Management. Way to go, Nancy!
This past month, we welcomed Aaron & Sylvie Royston and their family to Whitetail Club. We look forward to seeing you around!
Sincerely,
Jocelyn Kidd, CCM Club Director | 208.630.0216

Dear Whitetail Club Members,
Another spectacular golf season at Whitetail Club is almost in the books. With the arrival of autumn, our golfers are trying to take advantage of the warm days and get in all the golf they can. Frost delays are a daily indicator of what Mother Nature has in store for us. The fall colors offer a spectacular backdrop to the last rounds of golf to be played for 2023!
Here is a list of upcoming events and closures to note:
• National Golf Lovers Day: In celebration of National Golf Lovers Day on October 4, we’re hosting a one-person scramble all day. Hit two shots and pick the best for your entire round. We will have a $20 cash buy-in for payout and skins.
• Fall Classic Tournament: October 14
• Ball Buster: October 15
• The golf course closes for the season: October 15
The end of the season is a great time to get your golf clubs regripped. We have a good selection of different styles at The Golf Shop and would be happy to help you pick the right one for your set.
On behalf of the golf staff, we wish you all a fantastic remainder of your year. We look forward to seeing you in 2024!

Team Member Spotlight
His dedication and drive for growth were recognized not just by his supervisors but also by his peers. Four team members nominated Dominic for the company’s Employee of the Month program in July. Receiving praises such as continually exceeding expectations, always ready to lend a helping hand, striving to grow beyond the confines of his role, first to arrive in the morning, ensures the kitchen is clean, and being the first to complete a task and ask, “What can I do to help now?”
Blair’s journey began in the vibrant landscapes of Westmoreland Parish, the westernmost part of Jamaica. Though his birth name is Kaven, his family and community called him Dominic or “Dom” from the onset. A fun part of Jamaican culture, many people also have nicknames. Sometimes, these nicknames become so common that no one knows their true first name anymore. Dominic validated this interesting fact, stating, “I don’t remember a single time growing up that I was ever called Kaven. Not even by my father.”
After completing high school, Dominic moved to St. Elizabeth, a neighboring parish known for providing its share of the nation’s fruits and vegetables. The rural charm and agricultural enthusiasm of St. Elizabeth captured Dominic’s heart, embodying the laid-back ‘vibes’ that resonated with him. Dominic looks forward to someday owning land in St. Elizabeth, where he can live in a community that shares his passion for agriculture.
Though his culinary journey was sparked during high school, it was put on hold at his father’s urging that Dom start a career in construction. It wasn’t until he grasped the opportunity presented by the H-2B work visa program, which brought him to the United States, that the chance to explore the culinary field was presented to him. “It’s interesting how life works.” —Dominic.
Grateful for the opportunity, he assumed the role of a Steward at Whitetail Club’s lakefront clubhouse, yet fate had more in store for him. “You could see him always observing what others were doing in the kitchen.“ —Chef Tyler. Supported by Chef Marcus, Dominic’s talent blossomed under the nurturing guidance of Chef Tyler and Chef Derek. Starting with AM shifts, and in addition to his responsibilities as a Steward, he began learning the basic (but essential) cooking techniques. Demonstrating the capacity to take on more, Dominic transitioned to PM shifts, which allowed him to truly understand all that goes into operating a kitchen. “Not only is Dominic eager to learn, he’s easy to teach.” —Chef Marcus.
Dominic will take a hiatus from Whitetail Club for the winter season as he heads to Big Sky Resort for a line cook position. Still, he eagerly anticipates reuniting with his Whitetail Club family in the spring. In pursuing his dreams, Dominic remains cognizant of the distance from his family in Jamaica. Yet, driven by ambition and an awareness of the necessary sacrifices, he looks forward to continuing his culinary journey. “To accomplish certain things, sometimes there are sacrifices that we have to make. My family and I understand this.” —Dominic.
Outside the kitchen, Dominic finds solace by the river or at the beach, which he calls a ‘funny fact’ about himself because he doesn’t know how to swim. An introvert by nature, he enjoys fitness and an active lifestyle. One of his treasured food memories hails from the heart of Jamaica—a Saturday tradition of a community gathering around a roasted, herb-stuffed pig. This experience still colors his culinary passions today. Currently, Dominic’s favorite dish to prepare at Whitetail Club is a Tuna Poke Bowl, a dish he finds delightful and visually appealing. “It’s beautiful.” —Dominic.
Gratitude fills his heart for the opportunities and mentorship provided by Chefs Marcus, Tyler, and Derek. He aspires to make them proud, and without a doubt, he has. It’s fair to say that we’ll likely see a few tears shed as Dominic heads east for the winter. We wish Dominic well in this new endeavor and look forward to welcoming him back in the spring.
