Director’s Note

Dear Whitetail Club Members,

Fall in McCall has been nothing short of spectacular. Cold nights but crisp & sunny days and the extended forecast shows nothing but more of the same. This weather has been perfect for mountain biking, hiking, fishing, and the occasional game of tennis or pickleball. Make sure to make a trip to the mountains to enjoy the beautiful colors that fall in McCall provides.

As promised in my September message to you, we have confirmed our 2020 calendar events. We’re very excited for the adventures that lie ahead in the new year, and have included them on page 14 of this issue of the newsletter for you to review. It’s never too early to RSVP for your favorite events… actually, what a perfect opportunity for you to test out the new Whitetail app.

By now you’ve hopefully logged in and browsed the new Whitetail Club Member Portal. If you haven’t yet, or if you are having difficulties accessing the site, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our team is happy to assist. Next up, the Whitetail Club app, available for our members only. On page 7 of this issue of the Trailblazer newsletter, we’ve provided detailed instructions on how to download this cool new tool. Once downloaded you’ll be able to RSVP for events, make dining reservations, review the member directory or read your latest newsletter, all with just the touch of your finger. As you familiarize yourself with the new website and app, please feel free to reach out with suggestions on content or layout, I’ll look forward to hearing your thoughts.

And speaking of events, we’ve included in detail all of our holiday events. Sledding parties, gingerbread decorating, tailgates and more. Still wondering what you’re doing for New Year’s Eve? This year we’ll be transforming the clubhouse back to the 60’s, where peace, love, and bellbottoms reigned free. Looking forward to grooving into the new year with you all. We’re thrilled to have had two new families join Whitetail Club this past month, Neil & Angela James and Blake & Gibson Wilkes. A heartfelt welcome to you all. Happy Thanksgiving,

Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away and Chef Marcus and his team have prepared a beautiful and festive menu for the Whitetail Club membership to enjoy. Time is precious, let us take care of the cooking while you spend time with your family and friends. Contact your club concierge today to confirm your reservation. Thanksgiving will be served from 2–9pm. If you’re in town for the weekend, plan to attend our member mixer at the clubhouse that following Saturday.

Priority Bookings at The Cove are Back for the Holiday Season! See page 15 for more details.

Home for the Holidays Celebrations at Whitetail Club It’s official. The holiday season has arrived in McCall, and what a beautiful season it is. Sitting by the fire after a hearty Thanksgiving dinner, opening gifts during that idyllic white Christmas Bing Crosby crooned about, and of course, gathering with friends and family throughout all the special moments that make the holidays so…well, merry and bright. At Whitetail Club, we invite you to join us at some of our upcoming holiday events and create the kind of memories that are sure to last for years to come. Thanksgiving at the Clubhouse 11.28 | 2–9pm | rsvp 11.25 | a la carte | 208.630.0245 This year, give thanks for the little things in life, like not having to spend countless hours prepping and basting. Join us and fellow Whitetail Club members for a fantastic Thanksgiving feast at the clubhouse. Our expert culinary team will take care of all the details, so that you can focus on what really matters: celebrating the holidays. Or, host your own Thanksgiving meal at home (without the work) with to-go orders from the clubhouse. Breakfast with Santa at Shore Lodge 12.14 | 8–11am | rsvp 12.02 | $12 * kid’s buffet | 208.630.0202 Save on postage this year and deliver your child’s Christmas list to the man himself at the Shore Lodge Breakfast with Santa event. Kids can enjoy a special buffet made just for them, a photo with Santa, and even strolling carolers to complete the Christmas spirit. This event located by The Cutwater on Payette Lake fills up fast, so be sure to make your reservations today. Cookie Decorating at Shore Lodge 12.21 | 2–4pm | Free | 208.630.0274 Don’t be caught unprepared for Santa this year! Join us at the Lower Pavilion at Shore Lodge and sip some hot cocoa as the little ones deck out their very own Christmas cookies. Our culinary team will be baking up the cookies and supplying all the frosting, sprinkles and decorations they’ll need to unleash their culinary creations.

Gingerbread House Decorating 12.23 | 1pm–3pm | rsvp 12.18 | $40 */child | 208.630.0245 Home is where the gingerbread is — or at least, that’s the case during our annual Gingerbread House Decorating event. The best part? They’ll be taking their delicious designs home with them for an afternoon treat. Pro-Tip: Get the kids ready for this very hands-on project at The Fish & Swim Club with clothes that you won’t mind seeing slathered with frosting. Sledding Party 12.27 | 11am–1pm | rsvp 12.20 | $25*/adult, $20*/child | 208.630.0245 By now you’re probably seeing the rising trend in holiday confections. But no worries – we’re taking you outdoors to work off some of that sugar rush during the annual Whitetail Club Sledding Party! Meet us on Whitetail Club’s Sledding Hill, where the Argo will tow you to the top, toward a warm hot cocoa bar (make that “spiked” for us older kids), a warm fire pit, and delicious hot treats. We’ll provide everything from the sleds to the refreshments so all you have to do is show up…and sled down, of course. New Year’s Eve Party 12.31 | 7pm–1am | rsvp 12.16 | $95* | 208.630.0245 We’re going back to head into the future and it’s going to be far-out! Don your best flower child attire and join us for our Summer of ‘69 New Year’s Eve celebration at the clubhouse. The Whitetail Club culinary team will create a 3-course plated meal, along with passed appetizers while a live band, sets the mood and serenades us toward a midnight champagne toast. *Per person. Price does not reflect tax or gratuity.

From the Ground Up

We were fortunate enough to have Dr. Paul Koch, Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin Department of Plant Pathology, on property this past month. Dr. Koch’s research focuses primarily on fungicide breakdown in the environment and snow mold diseases on golf course turfgrass, he also happened to be a speaker at the Idaho GCSAA meeting this past Spring. After discussing the challenges we encountered here, he offered to come to Whitetail Club and conduct snow mold trials for research with funding provided by the Idaho chapter of the GCSAA. The first set of plots was on our nursery green located between greens 12 and 14. 40 separate plots were treated with different fungicides and rates. This set of trials was on bentgrass, the same species as that of our greens. The second set of trials was on 14 fairway. Again, 40 separate plots were treated with different fungicides and rates. This set of trials was on Kentucky bluegrass, the same species as that of our fairways. Dr. Koch and his colleagues will return next spring soon after the snow melts to evaluate the plots. This type of research could be extremely beneficial for us in controlling snow mold in the future. I look forward to reporting back this coming spring with what we’ve learned. Thanks,
