Dear Whitetail Club Members,

I want to start February’s message to you by bringing some well-deserved attention and praise to the Whitetail Club Team Members that are in charge of the upkeep of our winter amenities. Adam Lott, Nick Korthals, Adam Mehrer, and their talented teams continue to grow their knowledge and expertise in maintaining these incredible amenities. If you are already a Nordic skier or enjoy time on the ice, you know what I’m talking about. If you are new to either sport, I encourage you to give it a try. And if you’re a bit hesitant to do so on your own, please reach out to our Club Concierge team, as we would be happy to assist with scheduling a lesson with an instructor. A sincere thanks to our grounds team for all their hard work.

Later this month, I will be attending the annual conference of the Club Management Association of America (otherwise known as CMAA). This is an opportunity for club professionals from around the world to meet, share ideas and gain insight into the future of the club industry. I look forward to sharing what I learn and observe while meeting with some of the industry’s best and brightest.

As a follow-up to an email sent this past week to the membership, I would like to reiterate club

expectations regarding pet waste. Pet waste stations are located around the community, and each station is stocked with litter bags. We invite you to take a few as you pass by one to ensure you don’t find yourself in a position where you’ll be unable to clean up after your pet. And once you do, please deposit the waste in an appropriate trash receptacle. Don’t leave the bags for others to pick up. Thank you in advance.

And I would also like to thank all who attended our annual Winter Signature event. Hailed as one of the industry’s top sleight-of-hand magicians, Joseph Tran made the trek from LA to Whitetail Club and performed for over 100 members and guests. A fun evening was had by all…. and I’m still wondering to myself, ‘how did he do that?!

Aviation enthusiasts brought forth the popularity of recreational flying as a hobby, and with the exquisite environment surrounding our premier community of Whitetail Club, aviators are taking flight to explore hidden gems and remote locations throughout the state. With numerous private and recreational pilots who have the luxury of calling Whitetail Club home and those who aspire to reach new heights in 2023, we’ve outlined three notable airstrips that you and your family can land at to be at the foot of unprecedented adventure.

Length: 3,500 ft |

Elevation: 5,743 ft

Surrounded by piercing mountain ridges, untamed wilderness, and brilliantly blue remote lakes, at a mere 15-minute flight away from McCall, Big Creek has been one of Idaho’s premier backcountry airstrip destinations for nearly a century. Since its development in 1934, Big Creek has attracted the attention of countless outdoor enthusiasts who seek backcountry experiences. Once you land your aircraft, a stacked itinerary of fishing, hunting, hiking, and more, allows you to get lost in the natural beauty of The Gem State.

Indian Creek (S81)

Length: 4,650 ft |

Elevation: 4,718 ft

In the heart of Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness National Forest sits the Indian Creek airstrip parallel to the Middle Fork Salmon River. Glide among the towering Ponderosa trees and the elongated valley to land on runway 22 to truly disconnect and lose yourself in two million acres of deep canyons and rugged mountains. With picturesque landmarks such as Buck Lake and the Salmon River, raft downstream during peak summer or cast your line and reel in your dinner while you set up camp for another day in the backcountry of Idaho.

Length: 2,100 ft |

Elevation: 1,320 ft

Approximately six miles upstream from the Indian Creek airstrip is the Thomas Creek airstrip. Soar over the Middle Fork Salmon River and land facing the peaks of the Salmon River Mountains. Only half a mile west on the other side of the river sits Middle Fork Lodge. Land your aircraft and choose from one of their seven meticulously hand-built custom log cabins and awake to uncharted wilderness at your ready. Rugged and real, roam free and choose from soaking in soothing hot springs nearby, strapping up your saddle on a guided horseback riding excursion, and so much more.
