Director’s Note

Dear Whitetail Members,

After the “epic” winter we just experienced here in McCall, our summer amenities are slowly getting ready to make their return. Unfortunately, because of this extraordinary winter we can now say with 100% certainty that we will not hit our targeted date of May 18th to open the golf course, and are working towards opening Friday the 24th, with our Season Opening Tournament the following day, Saturday, May 25th. Adam and his team are giving it all they’ve got to hit our new targeted opening date, however should this change, we will communicate the most up-to-date information through our weekly eblasts. Stay tuned. In this case, no news will be good news. We’re very excited to announce the opening of the Whitetail Burger Company, formerly known as the restaurant at The Fish & Swim Club. Refer to the main editorial for a complete overview of what you can expect, but I have a very good feeling that this restaurant will soon become a member favorite. Also opening this Memorial Day weekend are the C-Store, the Boathouse, The Fish & Swim Club, Whitetail Park, and the marina. If you’re looking for an occasion to celebrate with friends in May, I’ve got two for you and they happen to be back to back: the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo. The clubhouse will be serving appropriately themed cuisine and cocktails on both days. Make it one heck of a weekend and head to McCall for May 4th & 5th.

photos and helping our younger members find the golden eggs. Thank you to all our members who attended, this was by far our most well attended Easter turnout, and we look forward to seeing this special event continue to grow in the coming years. Next up, we celebrate the moms in our lives. Sunday, May 12th is Mother’s Day, if you haven’t already, make your reservations today. Brunch will be served from 9am–2pm at the clubhouse. We recently partnered with a company called Clubessentials. Well known in the private club industry, their primary focus is improving the ease of accessibility of club information for members. This will be a 3-month process, but come September, I’ll look forward to rolling out the Whitetail Club app. Here, you’ll be able to quickly access all things Whitetail Club. Everything from making dining reservations to confirming your participation in an upcoming club event to tracking down an email address of a fellow member will be accomplished with just a few taps of your finger. I’m incredibly excited about this new venture, I’ll keep you all posted as progress is made Looking forward to welcoming you all back,

Burger The summer season always brings exciting changes to Whitetail Club, and the newest development is serving up some good old fashion fun (and fare). This Memorial Day weekend, the restaurant at The Fish & Swim Club is rolling out a fresh new identity, just in time for all the sun-fueled celebrations ahead. The latest in a long line of Whitetail Club amenities, Whitetail Burger Co. is sure to be a summer staple, offering some of the best burgers, fries and shakes in Western Idaho. Our expert culinary team has been hard at work creating a mouthwatering new menu which features handcrafted burgers made from our very own blend of fresh ground beef, along with healthy alternatives including organic chicken, red lentil and barley burgers, the ever-popular tuna poke, and even hearty salads. We invite you to join us at the grand opening of Whitetail Burger Company Saturday, May 25th, for some classic Americana nostalgia with the dish that’s as American as apple pie. Speaking of which, Whitetail Burger Co. will be serving up freshly baked pies daily, from classic apple to lemon meringue,

and yes, even a huckleberry pie. But that won’t be the only way to satisfy your sweet tooth. Kids can enjoy old fashioned milkshakes and floats, while the rest of us can have ‘em spiced up with a splash of bourbon or whiskey. Other beverage options will include craft sodas, housemade lemonade, local craft beers on tap, brown bag tall cans, and even bloody marys. Come for the fare - Stay for the fun. This “fast casual” eatery aims to help you get the most out of sunny days with fast and friendly service that’ll get you fed and back out in the pool in no time. And if you’d prefer to stay out on the deck, you’ll be happy to know that pool service and to-go meals are also available. Whitetail Burger Co. will soon be known for its inventive flavors and inviting ambiance. Whether searching for good music and great food during a casual lunch, or the perfect spot to catch the big game, this is the place to be. And this Memorial Day weekend is the time to be there. We hope to see you there!

— GRAND OPENING — 05.25.19 11am 5.

Are you ready for the golf season? I am!!

The snow is melting and Adam and his team are making progress preparing the golf course for the highly-anticipated opening on Friday, May 24th. A lineup of weekly events and tournaments has been scheduled and we are all looking forward to another tremendous season. The action begins with our Season Opening Tournament on Saturday, May 25th. We will shotgun start the round at 1pm, with teams of couples, ladies, and men of all skill levels. The format is two Best Balls of the foursome. Following golf, our champions will be crowned during the Member Mixer at the Golf Grille. I am sure most of you have heard that on January 1st, the rules of golf changed. There are now five defined areas of the golf course; The General Area, Teeing Ground, Bunkers, Penalty Areas and The Putting Green. Receiving the most attention is the seeing players leaving the flagstick in the hole when putting. It is no longer a penalty to hit the flagstick when putting. It is also not a penalty to move loose impediments in a penalty area (as long as your ball does not move) or to ground your club. Penalty areas were the red and yellow staked areas on the golf course prior to the changes. You will continue to

see the red and yellow markers defining the penalty areas and the drop options remain the same with the exception that you can no longer drop on the opposite side of a red penalty area unless it is a local rule. When taking a drop, your “Relief Area” is much more defined and you must drop the ball from knee height. I could go on and on, but encourage you to visit for a complete breakdown of changes. How does this affect us at Whitetail? You will notice I have added the following to the back of the scorecard: “All native grass and water’s edge are to be played as Red Penalty areas. Proceed under rule 17”. To better assist you with all of these changes, I attend a USGA Rules workshop in January, and look forward to answering your questions and helping you throughout the season. The bottom line however, is the game is still played from the tee and until your ball is holed. It is still a game of honor and integrity. And it is still the best game ever created. Enough on the rules. Another note for you to be aware of; I collected players’ cards after a few rounds this past season to analyze the difficulty of each hole and determine if the handicaps on each were correct. After some analysis, we made several necessary adjustments. I believe 6.

continued study of this is vital to providing you with your best quality of game, and ask that you give your cards to the golf staff after each round so that we can continue to analyze the data and make any necessary adjustments as they arise. I am so pleased to announce the golf staff for your 2019 season. Returning from 2018: Nathan Ferrell, PGA; Patty Gordon, LPGA; Diana Miller; Layton Harris; Kevin Daugherty; Anna Gard; Blake Sorenson; Isaiah Urrutia; Paul Currie; and Michael Aspenson. New to the team are Taylor Willey, PGA (worked at Whitetail four years ago); Dan Smith, PGA; and Lee Coleman, PGA. We are all here to make your Whitetail Club golf experience the best ever, and plan to exceed your expectations. See you all very soon! Respectfully,

I hope you will save the dates and join us for these upcoming events: The Ladies Member Guest July 10 – 12 The Club Championship July 20 – 21 The Men’s Invitational July 31 – August 3 The Whitetail Cup August 11 – 12 contact direct 208.315.2512 | shop 208.630.0211

Grab a friend and partner up for three days of fun and friendly competition on the links in the wilds of Western Idaho. This can’t-miss event is packed with activities ranging from luncheons and socials to contests and a multi-format tournament that will appeal to all golfers, including a Competitive 2-Person Team Event as well as a Non-Competitive Participation Flight. The expedition begins with practice rounds on Wednesday, followed by that evening’s welcome reception and Cocktail Party at the Golf Grille.

Members and their guests can mingle with — and size up — the competition over cocktails, games and treats. The game is afoot Thursday and Friday as we swing into action with breakfast and chair massages before hitting the links for a First Round Shamble and Second Round Scramble. While we’ll be in the midst of a safari-themed adventure, don’t expect to rough it, as there will be plenty of prizes, entertainment and cocktails in the usual Whitetail Club style.

Escape to Uruguay This June, the Shore Lodge Winemaker’s Dinner is setting the stage — or rather, the table — for a truly unique palatal journey, courtesy of Bodega Garzón. Located in Garzón, Uruguay, this award-winning winery named the 2018 New World Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast magazine, will be transporting a selection of their fine wines to Shore Lodge to be paired with our special chef-crafted five-course dinner. Throughout the Latin American winegrowing world, Uruguay stands as the most prominent country, recognized for their iconic Tannat grape, which delivers a unique, velvety flavor. With a paradisial setting on the Atlantic coast, rich ballast soils, temperate climate, and a steady ocean breeze, it’s no wonder that Bodega Garzón has re-implemented the old-world cultural practices of sustainable vineyard management. The elimination of herbicides and synthesis products, along with the quality-control of hand-picked grapes results in the authentic aromas and flavors of Uruguay in every sip of their splendid wines. Join us at Shore Lodge as we journey into the varietals of Bodega Garzón, and the fine offerings of our expert culinary team.
