Ephrata Library Programs

The Ephrata Public Library, located at 550 South Reading Road, Ephrata, has announced their programs for August. Programs are open to the public and free of charge. Registration is required for programs and can be made by visiting the events calendar on the Library’s website (www. ephratapubliclibrary.org), by calling the Library at 717738-9291 or stopping into the library during normal business hours.

• Tuesday, August 1 & 8, 10:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.Toddler Time. Toddlers and their caregivers are invited to this 30-minute story time that includes songs, short stories and learning-enriched art activities. Ages 2-4.

• Tuesday, August 1, 8, 15 & 29, 12:30 p.m. ­ Mahjong Club. Matching tiles has never been this much fun! Learn and play American

Mahjong right at the library. All skill levels welcome.

Ages 18+.

• Tuesday, August 1; Wednesday, August 2; Thursday, August 3, 1:00 p.m. – Teen Writers Camp. Perfect your writing skills in a supportive environment. Join this three-day writing camp for writing prompts, games and most importantly…practice! Ages 10-18.

• Tuesday, August 1, 1:00 p.m. - I Can Cook! Young children, along with an adult, can join the library to make easy recipes. Jaden from Isaac’s Deli will be joining them to share techniques and recipes. Proper use of kitchen tools and simple cooking techniques will be introduced. The Charlie Cart initiative has been made possible in part by a Capacity Building Grant from the Lancaster Community Foundation and the Pryor and Arlene Neuber Charitable Trust. Ages 5-8.

• Tuesday, August 1, Wednesday, August 2, Thursday, August 3, 4:30 p.m. - Kids Sewing Camp. Create hand stitched animal pocket friends. Luisa Tapia of Luisa’s Sewing Corner will lead. You must attend all three days to complete your project. Ages 8+.

• Wednesday, August 2 & 9, 10:00 a.m. ­ Lapsit Story Time. Infants, young toddlers and their caregivers sing songs, recite fun rhymes and read together. Ages 0-24 months.

• Wednesday, August 2 & 16, 12:30 p.m. - Pinochle Party. Meld, bid, marriage, trump? You’re speaking our language! Join the library every 1st and 3rd Wednesday for an afternoon of pinochle. All skill levels welcome. Seniors.

• Wednesday, August 2, 4:00 p.m. - Be an Artist. Explore fine arts, designing, thinking and problem solving with various traditional and non-traditional art materials. Ages 6-9.

• Wednesday, August 2, 6:00 p.m. ­ Keep Calm & Carry Yarn. Knitters and crocheters of all experience levels are invited to the Library to work on personal projects and socialize with others. Ages 18+.

• Thursday, August 3, 1:00 p.m. - Kids Gardening Club. The club will be creating their own garden at the Library! They’ll plan, plant and take care of their garden and watch it grow. They’ll also experiment and have fun trying out their own gardening methods! Ages 5-9.

• Thursday, August 3, 4:00 p.m. - Blindfold Taste Test: (Weird) Sodas. How strong are your senses? Can you identify these unique soda flavors in this challenge?

Ages 10+.

• Thursday, August 3, 6:30 p.m. - Pajama Party Story Time. Enjoy the magic of the library at night. Get lost in bedtime stories, play games and enjoy some arts and crafts all while wearing your pajamas! Don’t forget to bring a favorite stuffed animal! Ages 3-7.

• Friday, August 4, 8:30 p.m. - Family Movie Night on the Lawn. Family friendly movie night on the Library’s lawn (weather permitting). This month they will be watching “The Lego Movie” (2014). The first­ever fulllength theatrical LEGO movie follows Emmet an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person (the MasterBuilder) and the key to saving his LEGO world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers, including an old mystic and LEGO Batman, on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together -- a journey for which Emmett is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared. Now the fate of the world is in his tiny yellow hands. Prepare yourself for the greatest movie ever assembled! Rated PG. 101 minutes. All ages are welcome!

• Monday, August 7, 10:00 a.m. - Story Time. Preschoolers are invited to this story time that integrates songs and concept-enriched finger plays. Early literacy skills, including letter and sound introduction, are included in each story time. Large and small motor skills are practiced with simple art activities. Ages 4-7.

• Monday, August 7, 1:00 p.m. - Acorn Acres Wildlife Rehabilitation. Learn about mammals with Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator Betsy Shank. Ages 3-7.

Elam M. Horning, 82, husband of Mabel S. (Snyder) Horning, Leola, passed away on Saturday, July 22.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons: Harold, husband of Luella Horning, Plymouth, Ohio; Mervin, husband of Eileen Horning, Choteau, Montana; James, husband of Dorcas Horning, Cashton, Wisconsin; and Elam Jr., husband of Ruthie Horning, Leola; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lena Nolt.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Nelson and Warren; and one greatgrandchild.

Carl E. Bradford, 55, husband of Alison L. SchlachterBradford, Denver, formerly of New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, July 23.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two brothers: Kent E., husband of Joan Bradford, Akron; and Kerry C., husband of Carol Bradford, Lancaster; and a sister, Kristen L. Bradford, Atlantic City, New Jersey.
