PCCA to Host Winter Dual Exhibition Openings:Perry County Council of the Arts (PCCA) will host dual exhibition openings on Friday, February 10 at its two locations, Landis House and PCCA Gallery. Stop by both venues between 6 and 8:30 p.m. to view local artwork, meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. “One Ground Beetle”, Landis House, 67 N. Fourth Street, Newport Running through May 6, this exhibition is a collaboration between poet Melody Davis and printmaker Harold Lohner. Inspired by a selection of Davis’ haiku poems, written daily for more than one year, Lohner carved potatoes to create prints for 150 of the poems. He reassembled the potato prints and colorized them using Adobe Photoshop. During the opening reception on Feb. 10, take in a poetry reading with Davis at 7 p.m. “Off the Page” PCCA Gallery, One S. Second Street, Newport.

Running through March 4, this exhibition features visual artwork inspired by the written word, including text from fairy tales, the Bible, novels, poems and speeches. The annual event is planned each year to coincide with Easter, Mother’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day and spring house cleaning and decorating. MCSI recommends the show as “one of the finest shows that is held in Central Pennsylvania.” Each year, hundreds of shoppers visit the show to find special gifts for themselves, for others, and for decorating their homes—it’s a spring tradition that you won’t want to miss. The show is a great place to find items for Easter Baskets and the MCSI urges everyone to shop at home and support the local economy right here in Perry County and buy gifts that are made in the USA. Throughout the day, beautiful door prizes donated by the vendors will be given away to those who are present. Delicious refreshments will also be sold throughout the day including breakfast items and sandwiches, and admission is always free to the show. ARTWORK SOUGHT FOR YOUTH ART DAY 2017: Students attending school or residing in Perry County are invited to submit artwork for Perry County of the Arts’ PCCA Youth Art Day. Entries are due Tuesday, February 14th. Categories include dance, music, drama, visual art, video, poetry, essay, short story and graphic design. Youth Art Day is an annual showcase of visual art, music and literary talent from students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The event features a large student art exhibition, as well as food, live music, dance performances, readings of award-winning literature and demonstrating artists. This year’s Youth Art Day will be held at Newport High School, 500 Caroline St., Newport, on Saturday April 8th from 11 am to 3 pm. An awards ceremony begins at 3:15 pm, which

The countywide youth art show is open to the public and offers a day filled with activities for audiences of all ages. Admission is $4 for adults and students are free.

LENTEN FISH DINNERS AT ST. JUDE START FEBRUARY 5 The Knights of Columbus of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Mifflintown will serve its annual Fish Dinners in the church social hall on Friday evenings during lent, February 24, 2017 through April 7, 2017, 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. PCCA Offers Valentine-Themed Drop-in Art On Saturday, February 4 from 1 to 4 p.m., Perry County Council of the Arts (PCCA) will host Free Drop-in Art for kids during First Saturday at Landis House, 67 N. The Shopper’s Remedy is distributed through local businessses generating more walk in traffic, as the potential customers stops by to pickup their monthly “Remedy” to check out all the bargains they will also check out your business to and hopefully buy what you are offering. The people that pick up The Shopper’s Remedy intend to read it, plus as it is laying around their homes, others pick it up to read it as well so you get even more visibilit per ad dollar invested.

The Shoppr’s Remedy Clients benefit from a unique situation in which the readers are as interested in the dis-

play ads as they are in reading the Free Classifides. Your display ad is placed with the classifieds wrapping around it so as the readers search the classifies they can’t help but to see your ad. Thus why the classifieds aren’t in any specific category so the reader has to read the entire paper to catch all the unique bargains.

Advertising is still a total tax write-off. Know you need to advertise but don’t have a clue. We are here to help you come up with ideas.
