Winter Roundup

In a wonderful kickoff to our winter season, Mrs. Esther Friedman (and her accomodating family members!) cleared their dining room to accommodate the much-anticipated Friday Night Sisterhood Oneg. After sampling a delicious array of pastries and hot drinks, the women settled down to an entertaining presentation by Mrs. Rochi Felder highlighting the positive potential of daily challenges, followed by yet some more schmoozing. Thank you to Mrs. Elana Kleinman for professionally organizing all the parts to this oneg!

musical pre-Chanukah event was graciously hosted by Mrs. Daniela Reichmann. After an opening period with relaxed chatting and snacking, the large and varied audience was involved by Mrs. Leah Katz in a moving program featuring her original songs and the inspiring stories behind them. Thank you to Mrs. Atara Anhang for brainstorming tirelessly to come up with this winning program.

Maximizing the message of the Shovavim season on a personal level, the Sisterhood arranged a series of cozy gatherings focusing on providing information and inspiration for three different life stages. Mrs. Elisheva Lightstone hosted an evening of health and harmony with practical, relatable presentations by Dr. Sarit Somogyi and Mrs. Sherry Nussbaum. Mrs. Ita Abramson hosted a thoughtprovoking, illuminating talk with Mrs. Shanni Warman. Mrs. Orli Turtel spoke in her trademark warm engaging style in the home of Mrs. Shira Rosen. As always, Rebetzin Raisy Felder, Mrs. Elana Kleinman and Mrs. Atara Anhang expended a great amount of thought and effort to create a solid and compelling program.

On an unusually cold and snowy night, a large group of women of all ages and stages braved the elements to attend a special bugchecking workshop presented by Rabbi Noam Gottlieb of the COR. The fascinating shiur began with a close-up look at actual insects found on common produce and continued with practical, authoritative demonstrations and explanations of methods to detect bug infestation in many different foods. After the lecture, many women lingered over refreshments to compare notes and experiences. Thank you to Mrs. Miriam Liebowitz and Mrs. Hadassa Schattner for the great idea!

The Shabbos afternoon mommyand-kids program organized by Mrs. Rochi Felder ran successfully a number of times this winter season, giving bored kids and their hardworking mommies a place to release energy and enjoy their Shabbos party in pleasant company. A special thank you to the mommies who helped plan the program and run the brachos party!

Mrs. Joanne Bane, a noted shadchan from New York, spent a recent Shabbos at Shomrai Shaboth and treated our community to a presentation graciously hosted by Mrs. Miriam Liebowitz. She spoke compellingly about the personal experience that encouraged her to get involved in shidduchim, and urged all mothers of ‘kids in the parsha’ to network informally and research with their own friends and acquaintances to come up with ontarget shidduch suggestions. The large crowd enjoyed the encouraging lecture as well as the chance to socialize in a beautiful setting.

While we cannot possibly list all the women who volunteered, suggested, helped, planned, shlepped, shopped, cleaned up, lead, presented, spoke, encouraged, advised, brainstormed or added to the Sisterhood events in countless big and small ways, they are all acknowledged and appreciated. Keep the great ideas coming! Thank you to Rebbetzin Raisy Felder for her dedicated leadership and to Yosi Rubinoff and Amiel Diamond for patiently providing the logistical and practical support that keep the Sisterhood running.
