Sholom Appreciates Dedicated Community Champions

s COVID-19 was setting in and the Twin Cities’ Jewish Community was coming to grips with the pandemic’s severe financial and emotional toll, four individuals stepped forward to lend a hand. Kris and John MacDonald became the Chairs of the Kadima Campaign, and with Cindi & Harold Goldfine, Kadima Vice-Chairs, steer a communitywide collaborative effort of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation to help 24 local Jewish agencies recover from the devastating effects of COVID-19 and enhance community security. All four remarked, “When we learned that Kadima’s focus included the partnership of so many organizations, the determination to help the Kris and John MacDonald community survive and thrive through this crisis, and bolster our collective safety, we were thrilled to take part in this transformational effort. We were eager to help the Campaign be successful.”

Sholom, with deepest appreciation for Kadima, is a recipient of significant life-saving funds. Kris and John remarked, “We are proud that every dollar raised through Kadima is a dollar toward recovery. Sholom has been directly in the eye of the COVID-19 storm. We are gratified that funds were available for Sholom when they were needed most.” Cindi and continued on page 3

ith Sholom residents and staff now vaccinated, there is light at the end of the tunnel. However, the exponential COVID-19 related costs remain. To help ease this burden, the community has generously responded, and Sholom is extremely appreciative. The St. Paul Jewish Federation is engaged in an on-going fundraising effort to help community agencies mitigate the financial losses of the pandemic. Dr. Jimmy Levine, Yad B’Yad Campaign Chair, and Ted Flaum, C.E.O. of the St. Paul Jewish Federation recently announced a major gift of $135,000 from the Campaign to Sholom. Mr. Flaum said, “We are cognizant of the important role that Sholom plays in our community – caring for the most vulnerable. We are proud to support this monumental responsibility.”
