First Capital Campaign.

Mike Saxon’s family has a long history with Sholom. His paternal grandfather was a resident at an early Sholom facility and both of his grandmothers lived at Sholom – one in St. Paul and one in St. Louis Park. Polly & Mike were regulars at several Sholom Auxiliary Balls, and then became volunteers and supporters. It wasn’t long before Mike was recruited to join the Sholom Foundation Board and Polly was recruited to the Alliance Board.

While Mike was President of the Sholom Foundation, the Foundation was requested to conduct a Capital Campaign to raise funds to meet several organizational needs for projects that had long been deferred or delayed. The Foundation accepted this role and has been diligent since day one to realize this goal. When asked about the Care Comes First Capital Campaign the Chairs shared, “We want the community to understand the vital role played by Sholom; the full scope of services offered today, and the preparations Sholom is making for the changing landscape of our senior community. We need to be ready for the increasing number of people who will need services that are as individualized as each client.” For these reasons, both couples have generously made significant philanthropic investments into the Campaign. Amy & Stan Baratz, both former Chairs of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation Annual Campaign, are known throughout the Twin Cities as philanthropic leaders and active campaigners for many causes. Amy & Stan shared, “For us, the mission is very clear – to provide a broad continuum of residential, social and health care services primarily for older adults within a Jewish environment. We are extremely proud to support this organization.”

Sholom is recognized as a leader in senior services providing independent and assisted living, short-term rehabilitation, long-term skilled care, memory support and a hospice program all within a Jewish environment. Sholom’s Care Comes First Capital Campaign embodies a commitment and a can-do attitude from the co-chairs. Sholom has never previously undertaken a campaign of this magnitude. These powerhouse couples, who are friends outside of communal involvement, are excited to spearhead this challenge and feel confident in its success. continued on page 7
