GENERAL INFORMATION
2022 SEASON IS HERE The Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre provides multiple ways for young people to engage with the performing arts. From experiencing performances to participation in high quality workshops, let us support your teaching with relevant and exciting opportunities for students of all ages.
KAREN PATTERSON, Manager Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre
Here at the Entertainment Centre we can’t wait to welcome school groups back to our theatres. There is nothing more joyful than to hear small children reciting lines from their favourite picture books as they see the characters they know so well brought to brilliant life from the page to the stage. Or to hear kids shrieking with delight at the audacious inventions featured in The 13 Storey Treehouse, a show adapted for the stage from the award-winning book by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton. This year we have also increased our offer for high school students studying literature, society and culture, music, and contemporary dance.
Queensland-based award-winning theatre company shake + stir’s production of Jane Eyre is an exceptional gothic romance – which will amaze teachers and students of English and Drama. The adaptation remains true to Charlotte Brontë’s incredible storytelling, while the set design is breathtaking. Current world events sadly make the play Them, a story of a city at war, entirely contemporary and relevant. This vital story is a must-see for drama, modern history, legal studies, society and culture students. Drama and music students will be inspired by With Love, Amadeus, an exciting new collaboration between theatre living legend John Bell and pianist Simon Tedeschi, and of course the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Shining Brightly Concert inspired by Bach. After all the online learning of the past two years we can’t wait to see you and your students here at the Entertainment Centre to Love it Live.

THEATRE/MUSIC
WITH LOVE, AMADEUS Narrator - John Bell & Piano - Simon Tedeschi
A THRILLING NEW COLLABORATION BETWEEN NATIONAL LIVING TREASURE, JOHN BELL AO OBE AND INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED PIANIST, SIMON TEDESCHI. Nothing is more revealing of a person’s character than their private letters, especially if they are not intended for publication. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s letters are candid, emotional, hilarious, and heartbreaking. We follow his precarious fortunes, his triumphs and hardships, his reliance on fickle patronage, his occasional penury, his cheeky letters to his cousin and his desperation to please a tyrannical father. Australian theatre legend John Bell traces the life and career of Mozart, reading extensively from his letters, along with insights made by some of his contemporaries. Setting the soundtrack to the young composer’s life, extraordinary concert pianist Simon Tedeschi performs a range of Mozart’s exhilarating music for piano, including some of his best-loved works such as his Fantasia in D minor (K.397), Twinkle Twinkle variations, and his Rondo Alla Turca (Turkish march). With Love, Amadeus shines the spotlight once more on one of classical music’s enduring heroes, in another entertaining collaboration between two of Australia’s leading artists, John Bell AO OBE and Simon Tedeschi.

FINE MUSIC
Sydney Symphony Orchestra
SHINING BRIGHTLY Inspired by Bach
THE SYDNEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PERFORMS MUSIC BY JS BACH, THE MASTER OF THE BAROQUE STYLE, AND THE GREAT COMPOSERS HE INSPIRED. Like his father Johann Sebastian, CPE Bach was one of the most celebrated composers of his day, and his voice was just as original. Written as music evolved from Baroque to Classical, his Symphony in A is, in equal parts, opulent and bright – a masterful progression of his father’s style, superbly heard in Johann Sebastian’s Concerto for Oboe and Violin. This shimmering example of what made the older Bach the master of the Baroque is also an opportunity for Sydney Symphony soloists to shine. Inspired by both Bachs, as well as Mozart and Haydn, Mendelssohn’s String Symphony No.7 completes this captivating performance. While there are musical nods to the old masters throughout, this work’s infectious happiness is its composer’s music at its most glorious. Program CPE BACH Symphony in A JS BACH Concerto for Oboe and Violin MENDELSSOHN String Symphony No.7 Director and violin Andrew Haveron Oboe Shefali Pryor Violin Harry Bennetts
