The first two Shiurim will be a חזרהof the הלכותgiven by R’Yitzchok Rubelow Shlita. The third shiur will be will be given by Rav Zimbal Shlita.

Educator’s Angle Homework has created a lot of pressure and frustration in my home. My son does not like to give up his “free time”, and we spend so much time arguing about it which leaves everyone upset. How can we make homework time more productive? This issue is one which is prevalent in many families and is a cause for much stress in the evening hours at home. Set yourself up for success by creating a positive environment for homework for both the child and the parent. The following four steps can make Homework Time more pleasant and productive for both parent and child. I. Establish a set time and place for doing homework (For example 30 minutes after supper). In general children work well with routine and the consistency will help them accept homework time as part of the סדר היום. A set time will also lend a חשיבותto the homework. Give advance notice about the upcoming homework session (“5 more minutes until H.W. time”, “Chaim I will learn with you after I finish with Moishe”). II. To prevent “If only you would have learned instead of complained we would have been done by now”, let your child know before you begin exactly which material needs to be covered. By letting your child know exactly what you plan to cover during this time he can feel a level of control
over the learning to avoid an open ended session which may leave him with a feeling of hopelessness with no end in sight. III. Don’t “Farher”. Homework time is for חזרה, not an opportunity to test your son and assess his level of learning. No child wants to sit down every night to be drilled on what he learned that day. You will find him much more willing to sit down and learn if he feels you are “on his side”. Before a בחינהyou may want to preface practice questions with the words “these are some questions your Rebbe may ask on the test”. This is also a great time to compliment your son on what he does know and give words of encouragement. IV. will make your son look forward to the time you
spend learning Prepare the Gemara/ Mishna/ Posuk on your own before you sit down to learn with your child. This will cut down on the time it will take to complete the חזרה, and in addition your son will have much greater confidence in learning with you. Homework Time is a wonderful opportunity to develop a special קשרbetween Father and Son. A pleasant and positive homework experience together and will certainly make him more receptive to learning תורהwith you in the future.
