Printed or photocopied Torah material from Chumashim, Gemarahs, commentaries of the Sages, Torah articles that are distributed weekly, Parsha sheets, homework which has Torah content, & book covers that are removed from holy books, or other parts of a holy book.

3. Holy Objects:

Tefillin straps, covers, and bags; Mezuzah wrappings and casings; Torah mantles and sashes.

Not Shaimos:

Yarmulkas, audio or video materials, computer disks, diagrams or pictures without text. Newspapers are not shaimos. Only the Divrei Torah are Shaimos.

For any further halachic questions, contact your Rabbi. * There is a nominal fee of $10.00 per bag.

Under no circumstances should any bag be left or placed in the parking lot before or after hours of collection. If any bag is left there, it is a matter of ‫גניבה‬, besides the fact that it is a ‫בזיון הקודש‬- (desecration of the holy name).

The Milk and Sugar Conundrum Teaology Tidbits

Tea expert have spent decades debating whether adding milk or sugar to tea enhances or ruins the experiences. In Britain, milk is added to tea just like it’s added to coffee or cocoa. In fact, the majority of tea blends which are created for the English market are designed to be drunk with milk. These are mostly black teas, since the addition of milk mellows out some of the bitterness.

Masala Chai is one black blend whose fabulous flavour becomes even more divine when you add milk. Loaded with caffeine, Masala Chai is a great choice for coffee lovers who want to try tea but are reluctant to give up their early morning caffeine splurge.

While drinking black tea with milk seems perfectly acceptable, tea experts claim that milk severely spoils the taste of other types of teas, like white blends, green teas, pouchongs, oolongs and herbal teas. But many people are ignoring professional opinion on the matter and are happily adding milk to teas of all colours. Welcome to the tea latte!

Tea experts also insist that adding sugar kills the flavour of tea. But if you’re sweet-toothed and need that spoonful of sugar, try experimenting with other sweeteners like honey, Demerara or agave nectar. Interestingly, Russians like to sweeten their tea with jam.

Caution: Shopping for Pesach Over the next two weeks, consumers will flock to Kosher Supermarkets and their Pesach aisles to do their annual Pesach shopping. As a community, we will literally spend millions of dollars on Pesach shopping in the GTA. At COR, we encourage kosher consumers to do their shopping at COR certified supermarkets and retailers with supervised aisles, if possible (we of course realize that that’s not always possible). These Supermarkets and retailers are “kosher conscious” and are monitored by COR mashgichim, who work hard alongside proprietors and store managers to ensure that a Kosher for Passover aisle is properly cleaned and organized and contains only products that are acceptable for Pesach. A list of COR certified Supermarkets and retailers is found on pages 12 of the COR Passover Guide.

It is very common for non-Pesach versions of products to be labelled by nonCOR certified retailers as “Kosher for Passover” and they are being placed in Passover aisles around the city. Packaging of kosher for Pesach versions of products is often quite similar to their non-Pesach version and it is therefore easy for the unknowing consumer to make a mistake and purchase the wrong product. Please use caution when making your purchases for Pesach.
