March 12, 2021 Dear Customers, We are happy to share with you the good news that we have come to an arrangement with Mr. Allan Weiss of Sunrise Fur Co. to continue offering the services we have provided to you for so many years.

Sunrise Fur Co. is one the oldest and most respected fur manufacturers in Canada. The business was started by Mr. Weiss’s father in 1958. Allan is familiar with and proficient in all aspects of the fur trade, and we are confident, that he will continue in our tradition of service, professionalism and excellence.

Sunrise Fur will move into our present location, and continue to employ the same skilled staff, that Malka and I and our customers have come to rely upon.

We will continue to service you out of our present location at 2700 Dufferin Street until April 30, 2021.During that time and for a month or so following, we will assist Sunrise Fur in making sure, that the transition between companies is smooth and problem-free.

If your fur garments are still in storage with us, and you would like to leave them in storage for another season, please let us know. Storage bills for season 2021 will be issued by Sunrise Fur at the same rates as before. If you would like to pick up your coats, or have them delivered to you, please contact us prior to Feb 24 and we will make arrangements to do so.

March 12, 2021 Dear Customers, We are happy to share with you the good news that we have come to an arrangement with Mr. Allan Weiss of Sunrise Fur Co. to continue offering the services we have provided to you for so many years.

Sunrise Fur Co. is one the oldest and most respected fur manufacturers in Canada. The business was started by Mr. Weiss’s father in 1958. Allan is familiar with and proficient in all aspects of the fur trade, and we are confident, that he will continue in our tradition of service, professionalism and excellence.

Sunrise Fur will move into our present location, and continue to employ the same skilled staff, that Malka and I and our customers have come to rely upon.

We will continue to service you out of our present location at 2700 Dufferin Street until April 30, 2021.During that time and for a month or so following, we will assist Sunrise Fur in making sure, that the transition between companies is smooth and problem-free.

If your fur garments are still in storage with us, and you would like to leave them in storage for another season, please let us know. Storage bills for season 2021 will be issued by Sunrise Fur at the same rates as before. If you would like to pick up your coats, or have them delivered to you, please contact us prior to Feb 24 and we will make arrangements to do so.

Produce of Israel: Is Orlah an Issue?

Recently, the GTA has seen yet another wave of produce from Israel at local Supermarkets. Most predominately, citrus fruits, dates and pomegranates have become available at supermarkets that are central to the Jewish community.

The aforementioned items are subject to the laws of separating Terumos and Maaseros. The laws of separating Terumos and Maaseros can be dealt with without too much difficulty so that Israeli produce can be enjoyed. But what about Orlah?

The Torah prohibits fruits borne to a tree in the first three years of its existence.

Chazal teach us that the Torah’s prohibition is limited to fruits of Eretz Yisroel.

Notwithstanding, we have a halacha l’Moshe m’Sinai (tradition given to Moshe at Sinai) that the prohibition of Orlah applies even to the fruit of Chutz La’aretz. As such, Orlah is different from Terumos and Maaseros as it applies even to fruit in all places, even that of a gentile.

A fundamental difference exists between the halachos of Orlah in Eretz Yisroel and Chutz La’aretz pertaining to the case of safek Orlah (“fruit of unknown age”).

According to halacha, one may consume fruit of unknown age if its origin is Chutz La’aretz. Conversely, one may not consume fruit of unknown age if its origin is Eretz Yisroel. Some Poskim permit consumption of unknown fruit as long as the majority of the species in question do not grow in the first three years. Others permit consumption only if an overwhelming majority is present.

According to the information we have, the total percentage of red grapefruits that are of Orlah and were in the market in 2017 is .01%. In 2020, the amount increased to 0.12%. Either way, the amount of Orlah is very small and we do not have to suspect that the grapefruit we are purchasing is from Orlah. The same is true of the other fruit mentioned above.

Neta Revai refers to fruit of a tree’s fourth year which were eaten only in Jerusalem.

Nowadays, the fruit of Neta Revai must be redeemed before it may be consumed and this is done through theprocess of separating terumos and maaseros.
