We are excited to announce the opening of a new Resource Centre in Yeshiva Yesodei Hatorah for September 2018, where students in need will be provided with individualized instruction and support.

DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES The Director of Student Services is responsible for providing leadership and coordination of individualized programs, working in cooperation with teachers and principals. The Director reports to the General Studies Principal and Menahel of the School.

The Director will be responsible for the design and implementation of programs and services which include: working with staff to identify students in need of support; type and intensity of support, and scheduling accordingly how and where that support will be delivered during the instructional day.

Major Responsibilities • Designing and delivering any in-service, training, and professional development for teacher and assistants.

• Coaching and supporting classroom staff.

• Liaising with parents and external service providers regarding individual needs of students.

• Responding to individual programming needs identified through formal assessment data and classroom data.

• Designing comprehensive programming to support individual students and/or classrooms • Modelling effective instructional and assessment practices for teachers to implement in their classrooms.

• Researching evidence-based instructional practices and resources for use in classrooms.

• Designing, implementing, and modelling for teachers,accommodations in the classroom as outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

• Supporting with the intentional and purposeful use of appropriate technology in supporting student learning.

• Developing and revising documents and resources as needed.

• Collaborating with teachers in the development of an IEP. • Scheduling in-school team meetings as required.

• Facilitating the provision of accommodations and/or modifications as set out in the IEP. • Providing direct support to students through a variety of programs/intervention strategies (e.g., reading booster groups, small group intensive focused teaching, self-regulation strategies, etc.).

Qualifications • Minimum 5 years teaching with leadership experience.

• Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certified • Holds a Specialist Part 3 in Special Education • Qualified/experienced in administering student academic assessment.

COR Greens: The Next Generation

In the old days, a salad was a salad; an inherently kosher product no matter how you looked at it. Today, salad has tranformed to become one of the most kosher sensitive foods of all the major food groups due to possible infestation of insects which are not kosher.

COR has recently embarked on a massive project called “COR Greens” to industrialize and centralize the washing and checking of produce for all its certified establishments.

That means that instead of assigning individual Mashgichim to wash and check produce onsite at the caterer’s commissaries and restaurants, we have industrialized the process so that all of the washing and checking can be performed at one location. We believe that this project will take bedikas tolai’im to the next level and will improve the kashrus of produce that is subject to insect infestation. This is because our facility is specifically designed for this purpose. It is clean, with a lot of space, allowing for the Mashgichim to work in a non-pressurized environment. Specialized washing sinks and tools are utilized to cleanse the produce properly. Finally, washing and checking in one location naturally facilitates greater consistency in the checked produce. This initiative is already paying great dividends. So far, the several COR establishments (Café Sheli, Pantry, Aish Tanoor, Bistro Grande and Shalom India) who have joined this program are extremely pleased with the service and product which is lasting, high quality and professionally packaged.

Caution When Shopping for Pesach

Over the next few weeks, consumers will flock to Kosher Supermarkets and their Pesach aisles to do their annual Pesach shopping. As a community, we will literally spend millions of dollars on Pesach shopping in the GTA. At COR, we encourage kosher consumers to do their shopping at COR certified supermarkets and retailers with supervised aisles, if possible (we of course realize that that’s not always possible). These Supermarkets and retailers are “kosher conscious” and are monitored by COR mashgichim, who work hard alongside proprietors and store managers to ensure that a Kosher for Passover aisle is properly cleaned and organized and contains only products that are acceptable for Pesach.

It is very common for non-Pesach versions of products to be labelled by non-COR certified retailers as “Kosher for Passover” and they are being placed in Passover aisles around the city. Packaging of kosher for Pesach versions of products is often quite similar to their non-Pesach version and it is therefore easy for the unknowing consumer to make a mistake and purchase the wrong product. Please use caution when making your purchases for Pesach.
