Books By: Abbie Armstrong Reaching, reaching for the book that shouts my name from the top shelf. “Open me!” It calls. I snatch it off the shelf and gently open the cover, breathing in the new book smell. I carry my book over to a secluded corner, the silence beckoning me to fill it with the sound of turning pages. Page after page I read, savoring the feel of the coarse pages as I turn them. I’m lost within the pages, unable to distinguish the line between the book and reality. The book takes my hand; leading me into its world and I willingly follow. As I dive deeper into the book, I slowly become the main character. I feel what they feel, especially the embarrassment. I’m gradually brought back to reality when someone calls me name. I sadly return my book to its proper place. It gives me a sad but knowing smile. “Next time.” I promise, already planning my next visit.

Life of Peanut Butter Ode to music This is my ode to music I love it so much and it loves me. It blurs out everything and Focuses on what’s important. When I put my headphones in, My world fades out. Music is like a muscle relaxant. It’s there for me when no one else is. It calms me down and drowns out my feelings. It gives me such an amazing feeling when I find a new song to obsess over. Music is my best friend. I love Music. By: Alyssa Badura 

By: Becky Grimm I dreamed I was Gold sleek flying peanut butter Flying over a park, People stared at me in disbelief Then fled I wished I had a mouth So I could laugh, Laugh at humanity for fearing Nothing more than a flying jar Of beautiful golden peanut butter. I flew over the dog park The canines jumped and licked me I’m sure it would have tickled, If I wasn’t encased in glass So instead of trying to find out If it tickled or not I broke though an office window The person there Wanted to eat me, So I hit his hand and flew Out the window again I heard later he was fired Then put in an insane asylum For claiming there was such a thing As flying peanut butter

Yellow My mom sees me as yellow I am fun to be around Unless I dislike you never Sad or anything bad mom Sees me like I am a Glowing star, big and Bright very calm. By: Shoshanna Peneaux

Warriors I hear 3 pointers falling in the hoop It’s the sound of Dub Nation While others teams hear booing from the stand. Where I stand there’s nothing else to hear But “MVP! MVP!” and that’s incredible. I see my team with the franchise’s best record and the league’s. They see their teams trying to break 500. I imagine what it would feel like to have a team that bad. They live it! I see the Golden State Warriors winning it all this year. The see their team fall and fall and fall. Oh, wait yeah; I’m a Warriors fan! By: Payton Phares

Window Ocean I’m an ocean. Most days I’m happy, upbeat and excited. Ready to take on the world and the challenges it has for me. Wanting to be with family and friends. Waves of happiness coming over me. But I have my bad days, too. When waves of anger come over me. Not afraid to be myself I just let it show. I just want people to see the real me and not judge me. I’m an ocean. By: Isabelle Johnson

Cupcakes By Chaz Popp

The mountains are like the frosting The wrapper is like the small fluffy clouds Surrounding the mountain Sprinkles are the rocks and snowflakes falling On to the mountain tops and its layer of frost And its nice soft cover That make me feel like I’m lying on a soft pillow And when I bite in to it is when I taste delight

I am a window Always looking down and around People can look at me But they can’t see through me Wondering eyes looking deeper Pressing faces harder They look into me wondering What’s in the back of my mind? What is it that she hides? They see the things on the outside But never deep in the corner of my mind They can look and walk by But they’ll never see what I keep What’s really behind her bright blue eyes? What’s really deep inside? BY Dora Hendricksen

Jeeps

Metaphor Poem

By: Jacob G. Matthesen

By Presley Gruba I am as “unfazable” as the Empire State Building, Tall, you can’t hurt me. I am darker then the midnight sky, Mean and cold. I can be as sweet as the most high-end macaron company there is, Bright and encouraging and loving, I am as classy as a Chanel clutch, With manners and standards, high ones. I am as vain as a foggy day, My past unknowable. No one knows, and they think they know. Because just when someone thinks they’ve might have seen it all, The past can still come back to surprise us.

Basketball I love the game I see the court as an opportunity I hear the sound of the ball swishing through the hoop My jump shot might be ugly But my crossover is a killer When I break your ankles the crowd goes wild and screams I hear the squeaks of your new kicks I see the show game strong with my team and me I hear the sound of the reefs whistle like a roaring puppy very squeaky I love the smell of the fresh ball shoes and the clean court I love basketball

By mason Sartorius

Going up any hill And down the next Not the fastest car But the most durable Pulling Fords out of the Mud And moving the military around They have evolved And gotten better since 1941 Charging through mud And crawling over rocks An original American car

I love football As I stand on the field People shouting my name Swear dripping down my face Sun light burning my eyes The feeling of the ball hitting my fingertips The touch of the grip I run back two steps And see one man wide Who’s wide as the blue sky I let the ball whistle its way to his hands And get carried like a baby. By: Korbin Rathe

Hope By Leah Hardy They say it breathes eternal misery. It swallows you up leaving you In this delusional state of denial. Hope is an illusion that blinds you from this little pain in The butt thing called reality. And it sucks. When you see the title of this piece, You instantly think of happiness, right? This is also another sick and twisted falsehood. Nobody ever takes into consideration how painful hope can be. Glorified tragedies are more over rated Than a cheap blockbuster movie nobody likes. The reviews sound good, but once you’re actually watching it You realize you’ve wasted your money. Hope chews you up and spits you out. There’s no such thing as misplaced hope, It’s all misplaced and confusing. Hope sucks even more than reality, when you think about it.

My Colors By: Marissa Maxson My color used to be black, Trying to figure out who I was. Lying in bed late at night, My mind flooded with thoughts and emotions. Depressed and confused. My color is now blue, Like the ocean. In the ocean there are millions of things To yet be discovered. Like my mind. I will grow and become a stronger person, More and more intelligent. My color will be yellow, Cheering people up when they are sad. Lighting up their day, And helping them through tough times. This…is…me.

The Sea’s Lullaby The waves twist and turn, As if sleeping on a burn, Crashing against the shore. But if I listen, And watch the moon glisten, I can hear the soft sweet Lullaby of the sea. Like a mother’s song, The music entrances me, Telling me to sleep and be free. And so, I lie my head, And close my eyes, Under a starry night sky, To the sea’s sweet lullaby. By Kayla Thompson

It’s gnawing at my insides But it needs to be set free I can’t hide it from you anymore No one knows that part of me Afraid to let it out So deeply hidden sometimes I forget And yet I can always hear the constant whisper I will bet you couldn’t guess Walls thrown up to block that part There’s something you don’t know It needs to be set free I want to let it out I NEED to let it out I’m gay! -Allysha Darling

Darkness By Seth Graves I see nothing only darkness The sound of… Nothing only darkness The taste of… Darkness creeping up to seal me The smell of… Nothing only darkness Some people love and thrive in the darkness Some people despise it and hate the mystery And of what may lurk and creep in its presence That, my friend, we don’t know

Color Poem

Comfy Sweatshirts

My color constantly changes, According to the people I am around.

By Madi Kerner

When I am around my friends, There is no specific scheme, But the one color that I always there, Is a vibrant green, It contains all the laughter, And every memory. When I am at school, I wear a constant mask, Colors flying through my head, I don’t know how to act, How do I see others, And how do they see me, When I am at school, I am a neutral grey. When I am with my family, I still cannot decide, Should I show all my colors, Or should they remain inside, Though there is always that one color, That always pulls through, An understanding blue. In the end, There is no specific color, That symbolizes me. Vanessa Dausch

I am a comfy sweatshirt Calm and collected Lying in the dryer Smelling like gorgeous perfume Thrown on whenever I’m in a hurry Warm inside and out The perfect friend I’ll help you when you need me Warm you up on cold days But when I need you, you throw me away When I need something warm I grab my sweatshirt

Innocent Angel I wish I were a white delicate laughing angel, Able to soar above all others, Watch over all the innocent people, Have the ability to help humans that are confused, Finally realize how unique everyone is, Forgetting who people want me to be, How great different can be, Observe how fun life can be, Keep several people alert and safe, Learn how people grow physically and emotionally, Help all that are lost, Congratulate those that have done well By: McKayla Major

I am

Gold Flying Shoe

By: Rachel McCormick I am the afternoon Bright and shining Sometimes dark and gloomy I am a glossy window Clean and fresh Usually open but sometimes closed I am a butterfly Small and elegant Yet big and bold I am an Oreo cake Full of sugar and sweetness

By Matthew Peterson I dreamed I was a gold flying shoe. Flying through the galaxy effortlessly amazing, gracefully. Landing without a sound in the middle of nowhere. Taking off with such amazing power to break a plane in half. Landing with enough force to leave a crack in the ground. Amazingly heavy coming in at 500 pounds. Heavy enough to outweigh a regular human male. Fast enough to out run Usane Bolt. Powerful enough to chop a rock in half. I am the all mighty golden shoe and then I wake up to regular old gross shoes.

Adrenaline Softball is amazing, Best with a good team, No team beats mine, For Adrenaline shall win, For Mady and Makayla plus Emma shall catch, Katie and Bradi shall pitch, We are stars shooting through the galaxy, For EB shall delay steal, And Izzy shall hit home runs, You can’t beat that, Karlee and Anna shall run like the wind, Kaylee and Sidney shall take care of us, No team compares, Sophia shall run the infield, Anissa and Matte shall keep our spirits high, So softball is amazing, Best with my team

How Many? How many songs do you sing before someone finally listens? Hears the words and understands your heartache. How many colors do you need for someone to notice you? See the beauty within, Deeper than your skin and bones. How many flowers does there need to be for someone… Just someone, To stop and smell them, Breathe in the amazing air, Letting it fill your lungs and temporarily ease your pain and suffering. By Izabel Pingrey

By: Bradi McGuigan OLD BEAT-UP HONDA CIVIC BY:TYLER O’NEAL I’m an old beat up Honda Civic That is driven all day and waiting to get an upgrade But too sadly my owner does not have the money When I start up in the morning You can hear the rattle of my engine And the days when my driver takes me to the bank I think I am going to get an upgrade But my owner does not get me an upgrade And the days he takes me to get an oil change I think the same thing An upgrade 2 more years pass still no upgrade I get a new transmission and headers but that does no good Another 2 years pass me and my owner go to the bank He speaks into the speaker and says a large amount of money My owner reaves my engine and says you my old friend Are getting a upgrade I sing with joy and feel a connection between me and my owner.

Cattle Cattle start to come Stepping in all the muck Refusing to come on the truck The 4-wheeler are saying it’s too dangerous Cattle are in excitement There saying not to worry everything will be alright But there is no all right Nothing will help to get the cattle on the truck. Except maybe a cattle shocker But who has one I do but I forgot where I put it Maybe we can get them next time. By Dylan Schooley

Pancakes Ssss, my pancakes hiss as my mom pours the batter onto the griddle My mouth waters as they cook slowly, taunting me with how fluffy they look “They’re done,” I say “Not yet,” says my mom The eggs, bacon, sausage, and biscuits are done, so these should be too Finally, my mom scoops three onto my plate They are begging for syrup and butter to be smothered on them After they are drenched, I take my first bite, then another, and another Finally, all of them are gone, but my stomach begs for more Another stack bites the dust And after 6 more pancakes, my stomach is silent Not my brother’s though “Where are all the pancakes?” My brother says. My mom and I look at each other Anthony Pruitt

I dreamed I was a blue, singing ghost. I could sing whenever I want. I could sing however I want. No one would hear. No one would see. I woke up and realized. I could never become a blue, singing ghost.

My family sees me as neon green Flashing, glowing and full of surprises And sometimes out of control Always trying to prove myself a young man

I wish I was a green, bright, surprising puppy. I would be happy. I would be carefree. No one could tease. No one could judge. I now know that this was wrong. I could never become a green, bright, surprising puppy. By Jadyn Ringheimer

Batter’s Box The first game of the year A trembling kid steps in not sure what to expect The pitcher gets the sign from the catcher He fires The umpire calls it a ball low and away He steps back to receive the sign from the third base coach The pitcher gets into position once again The ball comes heated in as if it were to be on fire It was perfect The batter swung with all of his might The bat rang as he hit the ball He looks up only to see… Home-run By Jayden Stutz

Ode to Fear The child grasps her mother’s hand Like it is a life vest It is a nightlight That keeps away the monsters Darkness An ocean of uncertainty Take a swim Too dark Above the clouds See the people Like tiny ants Don’t fall Drowning Breath is little The water an unbearable weight On your shoulders Fear An endless boundary There to keep us at bay But it is fear That keeps us human

Blue Sailing Shoe

Legos By Cody Williams These little bricks give you fun for hours The only limit is your imagination You could build a giant monster Or an island for vacation Cause when they race out the box They will entertain any crowd Whatever you think you can create it A guitar or stereos that go loud A castle high and mighty Or a plane that’s like the rest There is no way you can deny it Legos are simply the best

By Hunter Abrams I wish I were a blue sailing shoe, Floating across the ocean, Being taken by random wave Here and there, Finally I will end up on an island, Where it is just me no noise, Or no one to bug me, Just sit and wait to be found, Or never be found, Slowly fall to my death for me to never be remembered, But I am not a blue sailing shoe, But I wish I were a blue sailing shoe

Metphoricles By Caleb Van Dale Colder than the coldest snow Warmer than the warmest coal Swimming past, a little fish See a star, make a wish Punch a rhino in the face Beat a dino in a race These are metaphors Soaring in like meteors Hope you like my silly poem This bit won’t rhyme, so see you next time! But wait, I forgot I thought I was done, but I am not I must explain But not in vain That these things represent me! Cold the look in my eye Warm the tears in my cry Swimming past my little love Wish upon a star, the lonely dove Punching hatred in the face Beat fear in the race Things that represent me Things that you will never see!

The Journey of Reading The book lies on the table Beckoning me closer I succumb to its clutches Delving deeper and deeper Into its universe It carries hidden meanings Taking me on a rollercoaster Of different feelings Every once in a while I take a deep breath The author has done their job Pulling me into another world I never want to leave Although all books have an ending I never want it to end I choose to read Not because I don’t have a life But because I choose to have many By Olivia Armstrong

GHOST By Emily Aguirre I dreamed I was a black, silent, yet snarling ghost. A feared apparition I had become. With fear in their hearts these people would flee. Not yet seeing that this monster was me. For once no one could see that this beast had once been me. A shadowy, screeching ghost scaring everyone away. This beast became me and suddenly I was, Alone at last, Feared at last, This monster hid my past. “Finally,” I breathe, “Feared and kept away from at last.” Never more having to live in fear from cruel people drawing near.

Colors of Me By Ashley Anderson My friends see me as yellow Hyper and energetic Always thinking of different ways to make them laugh Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t But I still try anyway My parents see me as blue Happy and adventures Always trying to make new friends Always trying to fit in My teachers see me as orange Energetic and ready to learn Always prepared for anything that comes my way I am really none of those I feel blue But not a happy blue But a sad and depressing blue But I try every day to be a better person And one of these days I will be a happy blue

Camping I sit by the lake as it slowly pushes waves toward me As I cast and watch as the line sways in the wind I reel in as fast as I can while the hook races trough the water Only to find out it was seaweed I sit by the campfire as it shoots up sparks Watching it crackle and sway in the wind Slowly turning marshmallows as it almost slips off Waiting while the sun falls of the horizon Watching as the stars glow in the sky Listening to the wind howl in the distance By: Chris Atkins

Ode to Summer By Katelin Bentley Summer is a perfect time for fruits. Time for shorts and swim suits Summer is a time where flowers are at their greatest. Sleeping in and staying up till the latest. No school only sun. Time to get tan and get nothing one. Not living in the past. Music loud and dancing fast. Time to hang with the dearest. Not trying to be the purest. Summer, colorful like a rainbow. Oh summer how I love you so.

Ode to Football By Kai Eisenbraun Football is my favorite sport It is fun to watch It is also fun to play It is as fun as making a snowman Ball is love, ball is life Football is entertaining Football is a very fun pastime I like the feel of the football I like the smell of fresh field grass Football is my favorite sport

Maze By Bre Anderson As I sit in my room and stare at the wall My music blares; It starts to whisper in my ear. I fall into a daze and Think about how my life has changed. It’s crazy how we age It’s almost like a maze, Trying to find our way out But only to find we are lost. Trying to see past these walls but can’t But we can break these walls down And see past this maze. Then we will find Where we are meant to go in life. Who we should be, What we should be, What we should pursue in life, And what kind of career we want And then we will find It’s not all that confusing Like a maze. We do what we are meant to do And everything will fall into place Like a puzzle And life will be more like a puzzle Not a maze And we will fall out of this daze.

Weirdness By Ricki Boardman I wish I was a red broken waddling pickle Waddling all over town Dripping my red juice everywhere I waddle everywhere because my leg is broken My red juice is my blood Everybody for some reason licks it up They say I taste good One person just ate my leg They’re closing in on me I’m gone resting in a stomach

Free Form Image Poem By Josh Galster I dreamed I was a silent racing star Racing other stars around me The other stars were loud I was the lonely silent star This was my chance to win To show everyone that you don’t have to be Don’t have to be loud to be noticed or to succeed That being a silent star Isn’t so bad after all All you need is confidence And anything can happen You can win

Daddy

One pitcher one batter. The two of us stare. I practice my swing as I head up to the plate. My teammates are screaming and shouting. I don’t even care about what they say I stand and wait I listen for the pitches that whistle me name One sails from his hand with a song that is for me I am the batter I am the game I swing and I hit the screaming baseball The small spinning ball soars over third I try not to watch it As it flies on wings like a small leather bird trying to fly The other team is trying to get it My legs run without thinking always the same Follow the legs base after base The same old race

By Izzy Gazzola Daddy is “you’re my little girl and I’ll never leave you”. Daddy is “bring him home and he will have to deal with me!” Daddy is dressed in camo and standing tall and proud. Daddy is America strong and home of the brave. Daddy is now dressed in orange and sent away. Daddy is jail visits and commissary fund. Daddy is hard times and big fights. Daddy is I’m sorry baby girl you’ll never see me like this again. Daddy is long hair and a scruffy beard. Daddy is a distant memory. Daddy is coming to see me now 14 years old. Daddy is long looks and distance. Daddy is close but far away. Daddy is long nights of wonder. Daddy is chewing tobacco and spitters. Daddy is a very faded memory….. that only mommy can tell me about.

Ode to North Carolina Basketball By Naden Joaquin I really love North Carolina Basketball North Carolina Is like Nike brand Every game is like Michael Jordan’s dunk Packed and sold out Every player who goes to North Carolina becomes the first pick In the draft North Carolina basketball Is the coolest basketball clothing I feel proud to be a fan I feel great to buy Tar Heel basketball

Wyatt Hunt

Silver Bullets By Jennifer Hunwardsen I wish I was a silver silent flying bullet. Piercing the target I’m aimed at, Loud from the gun of which I’m shot But silent through the air. By the time I hit the target, Another is already fired. Hopefully I’m not used for harm. In a myth, silver bullets are used to kill, Werewolves. But those don’t exist. I don’t wish I was a silver silent flying bullet, Actually this was only a dream. I dreamed I was a silver silent flying bullet.

Metaphor Poem

By Heather Joens

I am a stodgy book. Seldom do I get opened and always criticized by my cover. But, when I do get opened, I am a romance novel. Sometimes, complex but filled with lots of love and affection. I am a puppy dog. Very loyal and always wanting attention. I will be your friend ‘til the end. When I chase the ball I’m very ardent and will follow after it. I am a busy bee. Always collecting nectar and flying to new flowers. Even though I sting when you make me angry, I die after because I feel atrocious. I am a believer. I will chase after my dreams and achieve them. Never stopping until I consummate. I am a gymnast. Flipping and twisting wherever I go. At the gym 18 hours a week throughout the whole year. I am grips. Protecting you from falling and ripping. I’m also covered with chalk most of the time. I am Cayla.

My coaches see as a calm blue Someone who is calm during a play A person who can lift the team’s spirit I am a calm blue My team sees me as a white Someone who can end a team’s negativity A person who can get excited over a play I am a solid white The parents see me as a green Someone who will stop at nothing A person who can keep going and be strong I am a green I see me as a passionate purple Someone who sees the bigger picture in things A person just trying To have a good time I am a passionate purple

By Cayla Klapperich

Fall Withering leaves grasp onto bare branches They cry and scream for their relatives to return Dreading the wind Dreading the rakes Anticipating with fear the creak of a weak tree The trees laugh at their friends rickety grasps The once colorful flowers are now brown, hunching, and shameful The daisies screech for their yellow hue The roses beg for their blood red color Bare and sorrowful Winter creeps in. Ode to Sleep By Kenzie Krantz Sleep is a way of escaping all your hard Ships in life. Laying on your pillow slowly Closing your eyes and going into your Own little made up world where everything Is perfect. Sleep is a way of not having To deal with everyone and yours imperfections Your pillow feels like your floating on clouds. Like you have no weight to carry. Dreaming about whatever you want Sleep is a way of escaping all your heard ships In life

I Am From By Kati Lesmeister I am from a society where kids feel like they need to be adults I am from many silent voices with a thousand words on their hushed lips I am from so many harsh words that have been called upon the weak Where you must be known by everybody to be heard or to even matter I am from the shadows that lurk behind the rich I am from a time where only your mistakes explain who you are I am from hurting children where pain is more within than physical I am from dreams that turn into nightmares then into reality I am from a world that only sees the bad But I am from warm pink sunset evenings I am from the strong who take time to do what’s right I am from flashed memories with loved ones that keep me through the day I am from an open mind in a closed world

ThaT’s a PlaneT By Michael Maynard I am a planet I’m a bright one on the outside As all you see is the reflection Of the sun that hits my direction But bellow my atmosphere There Is darkness ThaT’s InsIde me I don’T know why my core Is corruPTed But the surge to destroy all life inside me It has stayed with me But I am strong like a wall Made of steel that will not fall Its weighed keeps it standing tall But this darkness can only be stalled It finds a way through the smallest crack Every second is like a heart attack I am a building elegant and fresh Looks new and at its best But ones you walk in Every thing’s a wreck, Nothing’s at its best Elegant on the outside Corrupted in the inside This planet is doomed to fall But at least there is a wall The light always tall Kindness always beats all The thoughts are always kept in Thoughts of darkness are always struck thin At least this planet can hold it in.

Image Poem I wish I were a white icy pounding ocean. The coastline dark and cold. Being battered by the water. Taking it apart bit by bit. With a never-ending force. With the power of a 1,000 men. The swiftness of the wind. As the moon smiling on me. Reflecting back into the night. Lighting up this dark night. BY Noah Rendon

Philly Cheesesteak I Wish I Was a Wizard Licking Hippopotamus By Cassidie Carlson I wish a was a purple wizard, Licking, Hippopotamus, Trying to run with my stumpy legs, I’m just a hungry, hungry hippo you see, The wizard is trying to run faster than me but he is a dwarf, My mouth opens as wide as it can to lick the wizard, SLURP!!! The hippo finally got his taste, The wizard zaps the hippo, The hippo shatters into confetti, The wizard flies back to his castle, Waiting to cast a new spell

Oh dear Philly Cheesesteak You taste like God in my mouth You are gold Filling my mouth with that melty cheese I will buy all of them And swallow them whole I will own a kitchen And cook as many as I want You are my holy god Please marry me By Damion Bates

Metaphor Poem

Blue And Green By Elliott Tyson Sometimes all I think about Myself is being blue my Life is blue just like The bright sky, my future is As bright as the clouds. Now a lot of the time I am As bright as the green grass But sometimes I am As dark as the Sky in the night.

Molly Bolyard I am a sparrow Small and jumpy Hard to catch and sometimes hard to find I blend in with my surroundings Singing when the sun comes up I belong with my family, all flying together It’s where I feel safest Where I belong A book that’s what I am There’s more to me than the outside But no one stays to read me They stay for awhile But soon leave Because they found something better I’m just like an ambulance Trying to help wherever I go I try to understand But even if I don’t I’ll be there For you

Ode to Spring

By Ashley Kay Foster Where the grass is turning green Green as the Granny Smith’s Apples After the rain comes the new leaves on the stirring trees Now I can see that the beautiful spring Is a life brining stream When all I here are the birds Stirring in ginormous trees It reminds me of summertime Like an old relaxing rhyme It will be beautiful like fall Just another time I can’t wait for spring time

Color Poem By: Connor Garbisch, On the inside I am purple The darkest of dark No one cares to know I feel alone, left out Depression has got me trapped in a box Nowhere to run Nowhere to hide Help me

I am By Alexa Johnson I am a skyscraper I am tall and stick out a bit I will always be there Standing tall and proud The one you can see from a distance I stay built high With my head in the clouds I am a mystery You have to get to know me Understand me Before you will see the true me I come off quiet But when I am no longer unknown I am like the sun I am the sun Bright and radiant Bursting with light I am always around Unlike a skyscraper I cannot be taken down Even behind the clouds On my darker days I will always keep my held high And stay sunny!

What Color Am I? By: Tandra Keegan My friends see me as a bright green Outgoing, spontaneous, and joyful Being quiet in public but a big smile Having a great time and living life to the fullest My friends see me as a bright green My teachers see me as a purple Getting my work done and being able to count on me Having fun and not causing too much trouble Always making the class a little more interesting My teachers see me as a purple My parents see me as a bright blue Always doing chores around the house Managing all my homework and sports And always making a laugh at the dinner table My parents see me as a bright blue I look at myself and know what the true color in me is I’m really a tangerine orange With my chink eyes With a big heart And eyes filled with tears of joy and sadness I see myself as a tangerine orange

Ode to Dance Dance was my life When you leaped in the air you land on the ground like a cloud The ballet shoes was an enemy The music is as soft as a rose petal Ode to Biking The teacher speaks softly By Luke Witt When I dance the worry goes away Biking, the only sport I know Then when I learn I am like in another world The wind in my face Like a dog you get lost The land swooshing past In a TV show you get confused sometimes Pedals spinning like a whirlwind Dance is my life The bike is an extension of my body -Kaylee Kincaid We are inseparable We are one The ground crunches beneath the tires Dirt sprays onto the frame The ground hugs the tires What could be better?

Ode to the Changing Sky By: Cameron Kokesh The sky is fire Burning and bright Until the shadow creeps closer Consuming the light As the darkness meets a sea of black Grains of light break through the sky above A new half of the world is discovered The night is wondrous Before me the view is split through the horizon The sea a mime The sky reflected Different but the same I am drifting through space The beauty is soft Honest and certain Mysterious and mesmerizing The stars are magnets Calling out to me Color steaks through the sky like a drop of dye in water The radiance chases the stars away As a mouse fears the cat A different brilliance is born The sky is forever awake

The Pitch I feel exhaustion I hear coach yelling I have a pounding in my head While others see us doing nothing Our coaches see us fighting hard I see splits in the back line For me to run through I hear the shot of my foot Goal 1-0 I hear the whistle for the restart I taste dirt, turf, Gatorade, and sweat in my mouth I hear the whistle blow for the end I feel happiness rush over me I lift up the trophy for we have won By Corben Mahaffy

Ode to a Reflection By Hannah Lee Separated by a piece of glass, We both admire each other. We are paintings in a museum. I see your flaws, From every freckle, To your subtle features. You see my flaws too, But little do we know, We are duplicates. You mimic my movements like a puppet, While I mimic yours. We share the same smile and laugh, But I can never hear you And you can never hear me. But one day we realized When we simply touch the piece of glass, Our worlds somewhat merge, And we become one. You never fail to amaze me. Still to this day I’m fascinated, Because we are mirror images of each other. Reflections. You are my reflection, and I am yours. Everyone has a reflection, But not everyone realizes that Everyone is one too.

Crimson Lion By Ethan Lippincott I dreamed I was A crimson, sleek, bleeding Lion Letting the life drain from me I watch as the crows circle above my limp body Waiting as a ferocious predator becomes helpless prey But then, as my sight fades away, My feelings return‌ Slowly regaining my senses. I open my eyes To a better world, and better place Reality is back, exciting as ever.

Ode to Life By: Ava Martinez

Football By Ostyn Pruitt Football is my favorite sport, I am a rhino, I run over people, I am like a rhino big and tough, People think I am tough But if they do what I do Then they would be the same, I am a running back, I am a middle linebacker, Those are my two favorite positions, I love playing football

Life takes you through ups and downs, It does this because it knows you can overcome anything. Life is fragile though, In an instant it can be completely changed, Like a light drizzle turning into a tsunami. Life is not always perfect, But nothing ever is. Life is a personal trainer, Telling you that you can make it through the day, Telling you that tomorrow is a new start, with new obstacles to overcome. Life is different for everyone, Like snowflakes, It just depends on how you want to live it. Some may choose to the risky path, Knowing that the challenge is good for them, Some may choose the easy path because it’s all they’ve ever known, Some may not even choose a path, Bullet They might just give up without trying. I wish I were a silver flying bullet, Depending on how you decide to live our life, Flying freely through the air. Know that it is limited, Sharp and sleek, And in the long run, it’s pretty good. Silent but deadly.

Window

By Hunter McMath I am a window Boring and transparent But nobody knows my abilities

I wish I were a silver flying bullet, Taking control wherever I may go. To defend others with all my power, And be the most feared thing known to man.

Sometimes I become broken Or maybe just cracked It’s sometimes easy to break me

I wish I were a silver flying bullet, But I am only me. By Hunter Pritzkau

I’m easily replaced There are many others just like me Not really one to be thought much about With all of the negative, nobody knows my importance I keep people from the outside Protecting them from the harsh People look through me And people never thought much about me And really take advantage of me People used to never even need me I am a window

Wishing Upon a Star I dreamed I was a blue racing star. Flying through the sky at amazing speeds. Being free, happy, and bright. People gazing at my beauty in awe. As I fly out of sight, happiness ends. I slowly am dying as I soar. Time is running out. I am gone. By: Sierra Schwandt

Pizza<3

Sleeping

By Addison Reed Pizza will love you lots Your taste is that of heavens. As delicious as the heavens Your pepperoni is equal to mouthwatering sensation. Pizza is a delicious enemy. It will devour your taste buds. One at a time it will invade the flavor in your mouth. Pizza will love you. Pizza will satisfy you. Pizza will never leave you. Pizza will always be with you. Pizza will make you full. Pizza is forever.

As you lay your head back Your pillow tries to eat you Your bed sinks to the ground The fan is screaming as you turn it on Your lights turn off You can see trees dancing out your window The stars are shining bright The grass is howling as the wind is roaring You let your blanket swallow you And when you shut your eyes You are going to sleep By: Hunter Tyler

An Ode to a Great Mother

The Red Ribbon By Elisabeth Riisnaes I dreamt I was a Red delicate sailing ribbon Tied in her hair Dancing in the wind The adventured we would go on We would run away From this world And fall into another A place where everything Was perfect Where there was no one To make her think she was just too different No one to make her think she wasn’t worth it But here, she was I wake up and realize I am not the ribbon But I am the girl Who ran away from this world And now in a world where everything Is perfect

Basketball By Cody Winter The clock is counting down This game is intense The score board tells me The game is tied The clock shouts 3…2…1… I shoot The clock screams zero Swish The crowd goes wild We just won the championship

By Brendan Waln Loving and caring As only a single parent You raised me my whole life Without the help of a father For that I love you To buying me clothes And feeding me everyday You buy me stuff I don’t deserve You take me to great places For that I love you All hours of the day You are the greatest mother alive Such as making me laugh To making me feel special And for that I love you As you continue To do the stuff you do You will always be One special person in my heart And for that I love you

Metaphor Poem By Michaela Heart I am a beautiful, old abandoned mansion That sits alone on a hillside Surrounded by trees Away from town where it’s silent, calm, and peaceful Though it gets lonely here Knowing I’m just an old house without a family to call me home. Practically in the middle of nowhere Where people come and go Never staying too long But each time Memories are left behind Some comfort me, giving me hope And some wound me, leaving me weak, hopeless Yet I still long for someone to stay And fill all the empty spaces Someone to fix the broken window, the jammed attic door And the squeaky step on the staircase Then I’ll be good as new again But for now I’ll watch the beautiful sunset through the trees And just before the sun says goodbye, for the day has ended I see car lights in the distance Coming closer and closer But as the car slows down and stops in front of me A man and woman followed by three children get out of the car As they walk towards me, looking at the old beautiful detail I have I can’t help but feel happy, excited, and over-joyed with hope That they are here to stay Then I see a moving truck stop by the car And I know a family is here to stay So I can finally be called home again.
