Ode to Broncos Ode to Lucky Charms In the morning I wake up to see you To me you are the best cereal Your marshmallows are like angels I rush to get you every morning I grasp a bowl to put you in I then skip to go get the milk and soak you in it I slurp you down As I make a big mess Then put your bowl away Then sprint to the door to leave Only to return tomorrow By: Alix Freeman
California Poem By: Autumn Dowling I am California, Holding in all my beauty. I am L.A., A huge attraction. I am the palm trees, Flowing in the gentle wind. I am the beach, Fun and welcoming. I am the little store on the side of the road, Waiting for people to uncover my treasures. I am a long board, I just go with the flow. I am the ocean, Washing lost things to shore. I am a Volleyball, Being played all the time. I am the board walk, Being trampled on all the time. I am California, A treasure whose story has now been told.

A Perfect Night By Rayna Turley Sitting on my balcony Waiting for the sun to set I can feel wind tickling my toes I can smell fresh rain on its way The stars were winking at me The moon was whistling a lullaby My eyelids were being weighed down The moon was getting closer My face was getting brighter My eyes were getting wider
Color poem By Michael Hubbard My friends see me as a vibrant tangerine Laughing and smiling full of good humor My teachers see me as a hard working sapphire Ever evolving learning and growing But no one sees the underlying sublime traits and colors of me I am a pearl white Calm and relaxed ever yearning for more knowledge Content to be me. Other times I am a matte black Dull and angry at those who have hurt me Enraged by the thoughts of myself and Thoughts of the others around me But there is a soft small speck of hope and forgiveness Burning rose red nestled in the core my anger Hoping to make new friends and become Friends again with those who have hurt me And forgiving those who have. This is me.

I Am a Book By: Taylor Middleton I am a story Written by God A masterpiece from His hands I am fresh from the print Set in a book store next to so many other stories Trying to find my place in this world I want to be original, I want to be myself A new unique story no one has heard Not some secondhand version of another book I want to be a work of art; and I am I’m a new story shy and quiet but longing to be heard Many people pass by my shelf as they search for the right book to read Most walk right past me as if I’m invisible Some glance at me once but decide I’m not worth their time A few pick me up, but judge my cover before they open my pages But a very few open me up and read me; these are the only few that matter I am an unfinished story Still trying to find who I am Many people are comparing me to other books, but that’s not what I was made for This world is beating me down I am a book now finding my story I’ve learned that I can be open or closed, and it’s my choice But I still yearn to be read I am a book that many people don’t realize how simple I am to understand if they only pick me up I am judged too quickly before anyone knows how easy my pages turn I may have a hard cover but my story has worth I am a book that’s story was uncovered Many people who didn’t care to notice me before now want to read me Society is trying to sweep me in directions my story wasn’t meant to go I am fighting the current the media tries to pull me down now that my story is famous I am a book that’s famous and chased after Many people now pretend that they know my story better than I do But their versions are twisted and I struggle to find the real me again I am a book losing popularity My freshness wearing off I pray that I will not be forgotten I am an older book but still being read I am a bedtime story passed down generation to generation I am an old time favorite I am a book sitting in the shelf of a small used bookstore I may be recycled and a little tattered My pages are rough around the edges But it’s not the outside that matters I’m still a good book, I still have a story Now it’s up to you, all you have to do is pick me up, dust me off, and read me

Metaphor Poem Baseball You wake up in the summer morning You smell amazing air When you step on to the field And the grass is moist When you’re getting to bat And you’re waiting for that Perfect pitch And you hear the crack of the bat!!! By: Connor King Baseball on a hot summer day is cocoa on a winter’s day The hot summer air The late game nights Are what make it worth it When you hit the ball out of sight The ball shooting off your bat like a rocket Seeing it go over the fence Is the best feeling in the world As I make the game winning catch I can taste the excitement in the air I hear and feel my team yelling and dog piling me That’s what makes this sport the best
Boating By Dominic Schumacher
Boating always is always amazing I am really an ashy gray I wonder what the next day is going to bring Scared, lonely, abandoned, confused, hurt I love to boat A forgotten, helpless, drained person I think that boating is one of the funniest things in the summer I am me… I dream that I will be able to do the coolest things Hydrofoiling is like the funniest thing The best place to eat To have family and friends The boat is so clean but when we put it in It gets dirty Hydrofoiling and wake boarding Hydrofoiling is so much more fun
Ode to Scheels By Carter Nesland Scheels is my candy store When I drive up I get excited because I know I will come out with something new Scheels is like a second home to me Whenever I go in I want to sprint to the baseball part of the store Just sit there all day and look at all the different gloves and bat bags Scheels is my stress reliever Yet it makes my parents stressed out With all the sports that I do, Scheels carries all the equipment I need My sister and I both love to just stroll around while our parents are talking about baseball to someone they just met Yet when my parents say it’s time to leave, they just get side tracked with things for them So we get more time to look around and a closer chance to walk out with more than we meant to when we got in
Piano Poem By: Jessica Jesseph Piano, Some may say playing the piano is just a hobby or a talent, But I see it as a gateway to the mind, Touching every nook and cranny, As I play I feel my fingers glide from one key to the next, Producing the most relaxing sounds, I see the notes on the paper all join together like a puzzle Each piece fitting perfectly with one another, I see the shine of the light gleaming off of the black and white keys, I feel the gentleness of the keyboard coming in contact with my finger, I feel free and happy, Sometimes I wonder if the piano isn’t an instrument but merely a good friend, A friend that speaks to you in the most unique ways, I hear a beautiful voice singing the most perfect melodies, I feel the music powering my thoughts, Piano
100m Dash! By Lizzy Black Cloud At the starting line, Both feet on the blocks! Waiting for the gun to scream “GO!” Most people feel pressure and the pain of losing! But the only thing I feel is the rush of excitement! I hear only the sound of the gun, The wind running Past my ears, and my Nona Screaming my name!

Ode to Volleyball, My Life By: Lacey Schooley
Socks are friends Socks are as soft as kittens A sock is a blanket for your feet And when you don’t want them you can kick them off They hug you tightly You can mix and match them Or just relax in them Socks keep you cozy and warm Without socks your feet would be naked Socks wick away sweat Socks are the best By Isaiah Richards
Some people think volleyball is easy But they are wrong They think all it requires is hitting the ball But they are wrong again It takes dedication Not pride and ego That can break you in a game You need complete focus You have to be prepared for anything that comes your way It’s all part of the game You have to be ready to practice everyday If you don’t you will never get better Volleyball is one of my very best friends Even though I can’t have a conversation with you Somehow you make everything feel okay Colors of Me I don’t know how you do it By: Leneah Nava-Hallert But somehow you help me through anything and everything I am apple green, I don’t know where to begin Bright and full of energy, You make me shine like a star Athletic and funny. Not on like we see at night At least this is how my friends see me. But one on my very own court Sometimes I am apple green, But most of the time, It’s not just you and me either I am vibrant pink. There is others there too from Loving and well natured, Offence to defense Caring and brave, even strong, And don’t forget about the fans in the stand This is how I think of myself. But when I play it’s like all just disappears My teachers see me as peach, I block it out Just kinda there. It’s just me and my volleyball Responsible and quiet, Volleyball helps me through everything Hardworking and helpful. From drama to stress My parents see me as many colors, This is pretty much my everyday life Knowing I am a well rounded person. It’s crazy to think a couple of Never black though, Bumps, Sets, and Spikes Only the bright colors, Could make everything bothering me Like a rainbow full of colors, Practically cease to exist Almost perfect with a couple faded spots. And yet I know that when I stop playing All of this will still be eating away at me But when it comes to volleyball nothing comes close to compare It’s my day, it’s my night, it’s my year, and it’s definitely my LIFE!
Color Poem By Mya Steele My friends see me as pink Always bright and girly Very energetic and athletic Always outgoing and proud I don’t want to be anybody else Sometimes I’m gray Tired and limp Depresses and tensed Not knowing what to do I zone out and totally ignore you Usually I’m Greenish blue I like to listen To help people recover Filled with joy and never give up My family and friends always come before me I’m kind of sometimes Black I shut people out Angry and annoyed Frustrated and rejected But it always gets better in the end Sometimes I’m yellow Full of laughter and joy Warmhearted and full of life I love everything, just being free It’s amazing if you just let everything go This Is Me
Ode to Ninja Turtles By: Jayce Marsh Ninja turtles are my life. Shredder and his gang, Are as funny as banana peels. The turtles bang. You’ve got Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo. To make it easy, there’s Raph, Donny, Mikey, and Leo. Raph is the oldest, Donny’s not a fool. Leo’s good at leading, And Mikey’s straight up cool. When Raph decides to charge, Shredder turns and runs. Donny creates cool games, And always enjoys his puns. Leo leads the four to battle, And always offers a helping hand. Mickey just jokes around, And man, he has a lot of fans!

Ferris Wheel By: Jasmine Larson I am a Ferris wheel. Going around and around. Always living life the exact same. But sometimes, not always I will stop. Most of the time its for repairs Either from a heartbreak Or getting depressed like normal. I am always stopping for other people. People get on me fast. But leave me even harder and faster. Nobody stays. Everybody leaves. I am a Ferris wheel.
Ode to Chapstick By Abby Johannsen At that moment in time when your lips are as dry as a desert All you want is Chapstick Baby Lips, EOS, Burt’s Bees, it doesn’t matter They all transform your lips into a fluffy pillow You pop off the lid to one of them You can smell ever so slightly the scent of the Chapstick Then gently you apply the product You feel like a new person Your lips are silk All your worries have gone away Your once dry lips have vanished And now it is a good day

Metaphor Poem By Athena Stultz I am an old farmhouse, Appreciating more of the vintage, And not so much of the modern. I am a glass of water, Boring and tired, but where would you be without me? I am bear, Always hungry and hibernating. I am a pair of Vans, Made for trouble and adventure.
Ode to Sweatshirts By: Alexis Becker You keep me so warm and comfy I don’t know what I would do without you You keep my heart so warm You’re so soft and gentle You’re so baggy and loose on my skin Once I put you on I feel like I’m sinking into a soft fluffy cloud full of warmth You’re as soft as a sheep’s fur You are so special to me I don’t know how my life would be without you Everyday you’re a warm blanket fitted to my body shape
I Am Water By Annie Schleusener I’m a tall, plain cup of water. I can disappoint you when you’d rather have Something sugary. Yet on those hot days, I’m what you want more Than anything. I’m the one who makes Mac & Cheese possible, Though too underappreciated. You can use me to wash your hands, and I’ll do My best to take the dirt away. Sometimes I’m not as cold or warm as you Would like, but I’m what you need, And you’ll take me as you get me. I’ll help you when you’re sick or nervous. If Treated right, I won’t fail you. My personalities can vary from a quiet hidden Pond, to a playful ocean, A controlling dam, or an unpredictable river. I am complex, but at the same time I’m simple. I’m water.
Colors By Carter Stonecipher To friends I am a vibrant orange Goofy and funny Always talking and never sitting still To my parents I am a mellow blue Not talking much when I am around them Keeping to myself and not bothering anybody To teachers I am a turquoise Out there and mildly annoying But to myself I am a neon Red Different Maybe in a good way or maybe in a bad way I have not figured out myself
Ode to Gymnastics by Ashleigh Thunen You injure and abuse me You tear away the skin from my hands You mock as I soar like a bird For most people it would be difficult to master your many skills But that’s just life for me The gym is a second home to me It’s where I spend more than 12 or more hours of my week And I love it Even though the longest break I get is one week I never get tired of the new skills and hard conditioning We have good time and bad times But the good ones stay in our minds forever The gym isn’t a place for everybody But it’s the place for me I’m lucky to have a talent Most people dream about I love the feeling of being sore Because it means I’m getting stronger Gymnastics may hurt me But it’s what I love
Fly By: Catrina Russ Freedom to fly To see above and below Form a perfect line Stick the landing. To see the beam shake As you take off To see it rattle When you land. To sprint towards an object Punch to soar over And come back down To stick it. Put your life in two hands Hear the wind whistle As you fly around the bar Let go…… To hit the landing. When you’re all done You present.

H2o is Life Water is my best friend I slam it down after a long day It recovers me after sweating It occupies lakes, toilets, and almost everything else Water is like space It is almost everywhere It devours me in the summer In the heat it cools me down I can stay in the water forever! In the summer, I am practically a fish I begin to develop gills Well, not really But without water, I would not be able to survive (Obviously) Author: Chantelle Sheppard
My Personality Colors By: Cameryn Cole My life is many different shades of colors I think of myself as these colors: I am curious as the blue ocean, Ode to Snowboarding I can sometimes be sour as lemon yellow, Gliding down the hill gives me a chill I am daring as blood red, Zigzag and carving, what a thrill I am rare like an orchid purple, Ride to the terrain park just down the hill I can be mysterious as navy blue, Approaching the jump, it is just a big hump I am insecure as camouflage, Bending my knees for extra height, more air before I hit the white I am beautiful like hello kitty pink, Maybe a trick or two, a grab, a twist, any will do I am bold as a clear coat of nail polish Embracing for impact like a ninja A landing cat is what I am But these aren’t what I show people I head back to the lodge to eat some ham I feel like people think of me as: Ode to snowboarding By: Chase Lamb Scary as the dark black night, Ungrateful as grey, Lonely like lime green, Mysterious as navy blue, Sour as lemon yellow, Ugly as slimy green But I wish I could show who I really am under this mask of colors, sometimes I try but there is one color holding all of those beautiful colors back….. And that color is me! I hold myself back (I know what you’re thinking. How is a clear coat of nail polish bold? Well to me I think it is bold because it stands out from the rest of the other colors. Why? Because it doesn’t have a color and just because it is plain and different doesn’t mean that it can’t stand out. So in other words just because you’re different from other people doesn’t mean you can’t stand out and shine!)
Ode By Elizabeth Eads You’re always there through thick and thin You never leave You can get so annoying I wish you would just leave me alone You hurt me You make me cry I hate you so much My love for you is as deep as a tidal pool But you give me mixed feelings I can be so blue and you bring me up And without you, I might die So, please don’t ever leave ~Ode to my Period~

Ode to basketball
Metaphor Poem
By Deja Shaw-McGuire
As I become anxious to put my fresh basketball shoes on I am hesitant to go out on the court My stomach is spinning as fast as a roller coaster I slip my unique KDs on When I walk out of the locker room I’m finally passionate to pick up the ball Nothing’s going to stop me The court is like my home My team behind me Making our way out Endless cameras Still sensing the sudden thrill of anticipation We circle up hands together chanting A team together All focused on glory Where we will live forever My life is basketball
I am rain Bringing life to dead grass I am a panda Sometimes lazy and likes food I am the color neon blue Bright and beautiful I am an espresso shot Exciting and full of energy I am midnight Lighting up the night I am a parrot Sometimes loud and annoying but funny I am a painting I may be abstract but in a way I make sense I am the wind Carefree and always going in different directions
Rasta By Hunter_Kahler I am Rasta, I stand out for all to see And I love being me I am BLACK, like the night Where the stars shine bright. I am RED, burning with a playful love, Looking for a friend. I am YELLOW, like the sun I won’t go out until I’m done I am GREEN, like the grass They children where everyone knows And again, I am BLACK, for everyone’s darkness, But don’t be scared, for the sun will come again So I am RASTA, beautiful, bright, and bold.

The Colors of Me
Ode to God
By: Jessica Thalacker
By: Kayla Schutz
I was a pink pearl Sparkly and glistening Also I was a sapphire blue With all kinds of emotions Making their way to the top
God is my savior He is my creator He is like a bandaid over my wounds He is a genie who grants my prayers He died on the cross for our sins He loves us unconditionally He understands what we go through He drives us in the right direction He helps us hurdle over the large obstacles He guides me to the right paths He secures me with his love He opens the right door He dreams of a perfect He is my Abba Father God is my hero
Now I’m a rusty brown Feeling used and old Not wanted in anyone’s life But that’s on the inside On the outside I’m a magenta purple Bright, strong, outgoing and loving Soon I’ll be a scarlet red Reaching over the skies Zooming past with happiness And that’s me the real me inside and out
I’m Water
Ode to Bacon
I’m water, not good or bad Always there to quench your thirst Some people love me But some people don’t I will always be there Until the end of our days I may always be there But people don’t notice I’m always neglected By so called better drinks The ones that think they are so cool But we all know That one day I will be needed Some day the cool drinks Will be gone But I’m still here Always till the end
It’s there when I awake. Although it’s hard to make it makes me shake when it’s ready I’m not fakin when it comes to bacon And will be takin more than my share I know it’s not fair But I won’t even care Bacon is like gold Bacon is heaven on my eggs Ode to Bacon By Kenny Brown

The Little Things! By Mercedes Tomjack I am from all the little things, The fresh cut grass, All the smiling faces, I am definitely from those little things! I am from late night drives, Fast food, Winding roads, Street lights, Shining so bright, I am definitely from those late night drives! I am from a small town, With gossip and stereotypes, Although these bad things, Living in this small town also has its perks, I am definitely from this small town! I am from all the little things, The breeze flowing through my hair, Clear night skies, I am definitely from all those little things! I am from my family, Always there for me, Helping me learn, Every step of the way, I am definitely from my family! I am from friends, They may aggravate me the majority of the time, But they are always looking out for me, To pick me up when I fall down, I am definitely from my family! I am from all those little things, The laughs and tears, Smiles and frowns, There ARE those big things… But hey, If I am from anything, It is definitely those little things!
I Am a Lotus By Ruger Sartorius I am a Lotus driving fast Going the right ways through the paths Always stopping to make sure everything is okay I have a strong grip so I don’t lose control I’m always loud because I have a low sense of steam Sometimes I roll back in life so I need to shift gears I will go so far And I will not stop I am a car strong and powerful
Ode to Running By: Silas Diaz Running, anytime, and anywhere Could be raining, snowing, or storming I still love doing it all the time It’s like a big sightseeing tour You can wander anywhere you like And once you’ve examined all of one place Just run farther the next time Running, a non-planned journey To adventure and prance across any terrain Sometimes you may get tired But you will always go farther the next time if you work You can always ponder about anything and everything While, running
Flowers By Wendy Blickensderfer When the spring comes along The one thing you will definitely see Are the flowers sneaking out of the ground They watch and wait for the last snow Before they open up to the world Some bloom early, and some bloom late We just want to see their smiling face With their sweet smells all over the place Soon winter will come And all the pretty petals will be gone But they all come back soon We just have to wait for spring.
My Middle School Personality By: Will Parker 6th Grade I’m black and blue. I have no friends. Nobody knows who I am. It feels like these walls are closing in. It’s almost like my bed is slowly swallowing me away. But I’m not fighting it. Because I have nothing left to fight for. 7th Grade I’m green and silver. I have friends who care and got my back. I feel like I’m rising fast getting ready to reach the peak. Nobody is stopping me from making it. Nobody’s saying “you can’t do it.” But then I slipped and I fell. Then I finally hit rock bottom. But this time I fell so hard that I don’t think I will be able to get up. 8th Grade I’m red but black at the same time. I have my good days and my bad days. But I’m at the bottom where I feel only hate and depression. Some people see me but most don’t like me and I hate them just as much. A Few Months Later I’m green and orange. I’m happy and finally have somebody who likes me. I met a girl who wants me to be happy and not to be hateful. Who takes all my fears away and makes school and the pain worth it. Finally I’ve had days that are good and bad but nobody understands.
Color Poem In Autumn I am a dull gray I feel dull and alone when staring school In winter I am a deep blue I go with some but not all In spring I am a yellow Happy and kind to all I try to inspire who I can By summer I am a warm pink A bright, happy, energetic, joyful color Others see me year round I am a bright yellow But not many see me mixed with black My dark side is nothing to be proud of But there are few that can add the perfect color To bring me back to my usual yellow By: Zech Patterson

Summer The sun up and shining Giving warmth to every living being It smiles to the plants and gives them A helping hand As the wind blows softly Through the fields of flowers The animals run with joy When warmth seeps into their bodies People all around out and about Riding their bikes and swimming within The coolest of waters of pools and lakes At the end of the day People and animals go back to their homes As the sun goes down it says farewell But I will be back tomorrow And that is what summer is all about By: Hayden Janis
Scars By: Aleah Horsley Everyone has them. Everyone carries them. Heavy burdens That nobody likes. Cutting paths in your life. Physically When the pain of the day Is too much to bare. When you fall And can’t bring yourself To stand Back up. Physically When your parents are hurting So they make you Hurt too. Emotionally When your best friend Turns on you And you don’t know why. Emotionally When your heart And body And mind Finally give out. Emotionally When the hand That holds your life In his hand Takes it And crushes it. Emotionally When your hold on life Isn’t a hold anymore Just a scar.

Night Time By: Isabella Dela Cruz It’s beginning to dawn The trees whistle through the air The stars twinkle from far away it’s hard to bare There are plenty of roads But many are empty Everyone is asleep Kept safe and sound Where nobody can be found but in their beds Where they lay their little round heads Wrapped up in a blanket all snuggled up and cozy Parents then sing the lullaby about old Aunt Jozy They hold their children tight and turn off the lights Off they went and said goodnight

I am from a strong Greek ancestry From family members in the military From a hard working family Color Poem From a new generation Some days I’m yellow. I am from my family Happy, cheerful, and exciting. My laugh echoing throughout the room. My smile reflecting into people’s eyes.
Other days I’m gray. Crabby, sleepy, and lazy. My parents yell at me for lying on the couch. I wake up then fall back into a drowsy sleep. I yell at my parents on the early mornings. I am Gray. By Lucas Wessels
Violin By: Ilana Nava-Hallert When I un-strap my instrument from its case, it sings a soft tune of its strings. As I take the bow and tighten the hairs, I can feel its excitement lingering. Then as we make our way through the notes, one by one. I can feel its excitement disappear. A slight release. We move through each movement, suddenly united, as one. Wither every ending-note we lose out excitement, and the time. As the hours tick by, my hands get sore, and so do its strings. Then I gently release the bow, and put it back in place. As I strap my violin back into its case, it looks up at me, with a warm smile, and tired eyes. “Thank you.” It whispers. I Am a Couch Until a new day, with more excitement, to play again. By: Lexi Dugue I am a couch Positioned in front of the TV Ode to Bella Staying in one spot By Jacob Lipp Most comfortably Bella is like a swirl of chocolate Collecting yummy foods Her floppy ears are velvet sleeves of cuteness Deep in the cracks The way she trots is hilarious Breakfast For she is a mutt Proud and free Lunch The greatest companion anyone could be Dinner Yet she’s small And midnight snacks She thinks she’s tall Without me your favorite time could not exist Nothing is comparable to my Bella Your leisure time Through ups and downs The simple life She’ll be around And on with the list Always adjacent to me I am a couch She has the perfect dog door I could be soft And will never roar I could be firm She can conjure happiness in the darkest part of me Break me in I love my dog Take your turn I will steal your money And all your things Your cell phone Your car keys Your wedding ring I don’t want to build a criminal record So I may just stop But I am a couch And you love me a lot
Metaphor Poem I am rainbow Bright and happy Never holding back my colors Shining full and bright Even through the rainy days I am a cloud Calm and Quiet Also upset and grey sometimes But not always that way I’ll always be there No matter what the day I am a rainy day Flooding the ground with tears But in the end they’ll be a rainbow My storm may last for a long time Because there’s no one there to stop me I am a tinted window Trying to hide away Not wanting anyone to see the inside Hoping they won’t judge the outside Or what’s on the inside But I know they will Because they do it all the time I am a wood door Hard and strong Keeping the bad things hidden inside Hoping they won’t break down the door But when a fire comes I’ll crumble to pieces And I can’t be put back together But maybe someday someone will help me And the bad will be gone for forever I am me Golden blonde hair shining in the sun Green eyes that could change to blue Wearing high wasted shorts and a crop top Living in the moment Hoping someone will find me someday I am Lydia

Ode to Air By Magdalena Garcia I love air, It keeps me living and breathing, Air is like a soft puppy holding my hand, So marvelous, I just can’t explain, Air was a fabulous friend, But now here I am, In a hospital bed, Fighting for my life, Trying to make it seem, Like I will be okay, Because all I am is, A particle from dead skin.
My Week in Color By Mark John Vandersnick On Monday and Tuesday I’m Orange, a mixture of Red and Yellow, I’m annoyed and angry until someone of something makes me happy, On Wednesday and Thursday I’m green, happy and enthusiastic, full with confidence and ready for anything to happen next, On Friday and Saturday I’m light blue, calm and relaxed but I want someone to share my time with and have fun, On Sunday I’m gold, shiny and reflecting, the mood you put me in is the mood you get back, I’m happy when other people are happy, I’m sad when other people are sad, I am many different colors.
Ode to Books By Quinton Saffel Books are a silent journey Marching through their land Where dreams come alive Like the sun Where animals promote a message Where a stone can prevent a death Of someone you love Or a few words can destroy someone’s life Books are loving friends As you slowly drift away Into a wonderful dream While in a warm bed Books are a quick vacation To get away From reality From lies From deception Of our cruel world Books are a silent journey
The Colors of Me By Sam Meisner My friends think that I’m lime green, Always bright, happy, and light-hearted, But that’s not what I truly am, My teachers think that I’m a dark blue, Like an ocean that is calm, cool, and collected, This is also not quite right, My parents think that I’m a light, wispy gray, Like smoke that is so hard to reach out to and so forgetful, This, again is not me, I think that I’m not even a color, I think that I’m a kaleidoscope, Showing so many colors that people Don’t know what to make of me, This is what I truly am.

Ode to Volleyball By Tatum Paasch The rushing in your blood As the bleachers start to flood Competitors are like siblings You despise them but enjoy them Cheering is all around Make extreme amounts of sound We find our positions They serve We go up for a play Bump Set Spike Time out they call They say the net is small We start again We score a point, then two, then four I drink some water As it starts to get hotter This is my passion Even more than fashion Volleyball is my life

Color Poem
Door By: Trevor Johnson I am a door Hard to break but easy to open I will let you in But you will never break through me I am unique My designs tell about me and who I am You can be my friend and get through me Or you can be a jerk and try to break me down But you will never take me away from who I am My hinges are tight and they won’t crack away I guard the people behind me The ones that open me My friends I am a door

Metaphor Poem- Football Alex Westergaard I am a football Getting tossed and turned Either hitting the ground into a pair of soft hands I go back and forth from team to team And inside I’m insulated and pumped After a while it could get blown out of me I then get pumped with air again When the quarterback throws me to the open receiver He catches me and runs to the end zone and everyone cheers I might as well get ready for a throw down to the ground in some fashion Getting thrown over the crossbar I land on the ground hard At the end of it all I have to go through it all again next week
THE GAME You can’t wait for the whistle to blow but you have butterflies As the ball gets near you You pass quickly So fast the ball seems to skip As you run down field calling for the ball He is in the corner I jump over the man that is trying to cover you Ow you think for a second You realized you scored You grab the ball as if it’s your baby Your team gets around you and huddles You throw it up like a bomb You fall as it hits the ground Brandon Thomas
Ode to Dorito Loco Taco By Cooper Rossow When I look at you I get giggly For you are as delicious as licorice Your meat glorifies all meat Your cheese inspires tears to flow And you tomato dribbles down my chin But you lettuce is one thing I could skip Your nacho cheese shell is divine But the cool ranch shell is all the rage Your shell is always soft But it’s ok since you’re always hot I don’t mean to discriminate But oh Dorito Loco Taco You are the music of my soul!
Basketball The sound of the ball as I dribble up court soothes my body. When my fingers touch the nice crisp ball it feels as if it is a part of me. The crowd is roaring and I am filled with nervousness as he clock winds down I pass the ball it whistles pass defenders I sprint around the screen to the corner, 3,2,1 I catch the ball, position my hands and shoot It felt smooth, I feel relieved when I hear the ball go through the net The buzzer goes off and the crowd roars with excitement We won, Basketball. By Chris Steidley

I Am Poem By: Skyler Herrick I am early morning. I wake up as bright as can be. I’m open for anyone to talk to me. I’m bright and prepared for anything. I can be sunny. I can be rainy. And I can be snowy. But every day occurs for a reason I can be windy. I can be breezy. And I can be calm. I’ll always be okay in general.
Dreams When I go into a slumber I dream of happy things Like laying in a grassy meadow To hear the animals talk to me I jump off cliffs and waterfalls And fall to meet my doom The wind screams my name But all I can do is fall And fall But after a while I spread my wings and fly I dread the time when I wake up Because I know my dream is at its end But I know in my heart I will someday dream it again By: Devon Chase
Color Poem By Hayley Anderson My friends would and classmates would See me as lilac Shy, Tired, Not Bright, Lost But my best friends Would see me as coral Confident, Vibrant, and Outgoing I’m really just misunderstood If only people would get away From looks and get to know my coral side instead Of my lilac side…
Ode to Odes By: Jeremy McRae You recite others’ joy to me You carry on the joy to all For celebrations there is not a doubt Odes should be found all about You are joy and happiness You are as happy as all whom wed Those who gaze upon your words Always entranced by your verbs The information contained in you Will spread like wildfire into my head Odes how I long to read you Will you entrance me I beseech you
Ode to Qdoba By Jack Riker OH, how I love Qdoba… let me count the ways… The tortillas that float and glide on to the steamer where they lay Warmed, stretched and gently placed ready for the fillings of the day. I see the chicken grilling over a sizzling white-hop open flame Burrito wrangles taming the red and yellow blaze like it was a game Next comes the salsa with its ghost pepper heat And a sea of queso… now that’s hard to beat! Add a few extras like grilled veggies and guac My mouth is watering now… I can’t even talk. The soda machine glares at me from across the way My nemesis of flavor- so many choices inviting me to play. Finally I sit like a king in my castle of spice I’m eating my burrito and that is soooo nice!
Music Ode to Subway By Jake Purchase How I enjoy your rubber bread I can’t get through your line without blurting yum Your tiny bags of chips You have all of the lab-made chicken I could ever devour All of your selections Are fields of processed goods To your cookies that feel like rocks When I plop into a seat The chair just might break As I demolish my food I then sprint back to the counter To get even more food While the grumpy server plops my food onto my bread For me to later eat while in bed
Color Poem On the outside I’m a highlighter yellow, I can stand out from the others, I seem so carefree full of laughter, Always ready to have fun and feel alive, Smiling and trying my hardest to make others happy. On the Inside I’m an ashy gray, Always feeling alone and strung out, I feel misunderstood and not too excited for the day, Going home taking nap after nap just for an escape, But maybe one day I’ll be that highlighter yellow on the inside. By: Julia Howard

Laying Under the Stars
Color Poem By: Katelyn McGhan
By: Jazmine Allgier Laying under the stars I am blue Makes me feel safe Happy, bright, joyful, but also gloomy Twinkles right above me Lets me cry on its shoulder without saying a word My friends see me as lime green Lets me let out all my feelings As the wind blows over my body Inspiring, bright, joyful, and respectful I lay there and think to myself about everything on my mind Nobody if there to judge me My parents see me as light blue No one is there to tell me to stop Quiet, cool, and bright As its shines bright above me Up on a hill with peace and quiet Some teachers see me as buttercup yellow The sounds from nature making me smile Calm, quiet, respectful, filled with joy, exciting Breathing fresh air in the dark Never lets me down But those colors aren’t me Feeling like everything around me is holding me I am all shades of blue Saying everything is going to be ok
Happy, bright, joyful, but most of the time gloomy

Friends from Afar By Lucas Folsom Some of the greatest people That you will know Won’t live near your home These people are always with you Through the good and the bad Even if you don’t see them enough The greatest people that one can meet Don’t need to be across the street Because anyone can be close to you No matter how far away they may be Your friends from afar are the friends to keep If you begin to sleep Don’t let the walls keep you contained Go visit it your friends No matter how far away Now remember that the greatest friends Can be the ones farthest apart
Scratched CD By: Kelly Hoffman I am a scratched CD Broken in one place strong in the others Scratched by multiple people Getting stuck on that one thing My scratches play clear and quiet afraid of being scratched My scratches play the loudest to mean by the quietest to others I keep my problems quiet until I’m scratched once more Wondering if anything will be better I can’t do anything right Gently I screech for help I get tossed aside and forgotten Everyone’s last choice At times I’m run down Others I’m strong and happy I can fake my happiness It comes to me naturally I will always have these scratches that will never leave
I AM By Sarahjane Luu I am a traveling book Moving from one place to another People use me to guide them Then they throw me In many places I’m trying to keep myself together I’ll rip apart soon Someone should bind me, Please? Ode to a Soccer Field The Field beckoned me, like cat to catnip Getting the ball was a permission slip, The scent of freshly cut grass fills the nose, as teams in uniform prepare to compose. A complex dance between field and cleats, weaving and cutting from determined athletes. Plastic nets decide the fate of two opposing teams, while players pant struggling to keep oxygen in their blood streams. Cheers from the sidelines as scores rise, coaches determined to retool and revise. Dribbling without hands, cheers or insults jet out from the stands. Fancy footwork and the goal keeper's mistake, scoreboard's buzz and sportsmanship's handshake. Another game come to a close, participants and witnesses branched by joys or sorrows. By Parker Usera

Ode to the Colors
This Is Who I Am
By Riley Salter Where would we be without all our color? In a boring world of white and black?
By Sidni Murphey They say I’m always happy, Like the color Lemon Yellow. Smiling throughout my day, “I’m always the same way”.
W e need our reds to shimmy in our heads. To give color to our fresh picked apples. The bright burning red of the fire engines. The dark maroon to tarnish our woods. The fiery red orange to ignite life in our flames. Without our yellows we would be unhappy fellows. Our sun would be dull without the bright hue. A smiley face would not be so cheery. Highlighters would be just another “regular color”. A world without green, what fun would that be? We need bright green to display that spring is arriving. Leaves would be boring without their brilliant emerald glow. Green grapes would just be no fun.
They say I’m mysterious, Like the color Dove Gray. I’m liked by many, And I’m friends with everyone. I’m not always matching And I don’t go with my mood. How much do you really know? Behind this shining smile, I’m a dark, sad soul. Like the color Ebony. You think you understand, but really you don’t.
I would be so blue without this elegant hue. Our oceans wouldn’t be the same, no reason to dance in the rain. Blue jeans would transform into “blah jeans” A world without blue would be like a rainbow without color.
I send out this message, I’m cheery like the color Rose. As the day goes on and disappears, so does my happiness. I turn into the color Navy Blue. She cries for help, but no one’s there, To save her from her self hate.
This world would sure stink if we didn’t have pink. No reason to blow a bubble. Every girl needs this color indeed. Our sunsets would not be as pretty as they set over the city. And Little Bo Peep’s bow would be boring without that pink glow.
“Misunderstood, defeated and abandoned,” Is how I describe myself. I’m emerald green and in the end, I’m dark and never remembered. On the outside I’m Lavender, Light, happy and carefree.
Ode to WalMart By Steele Fuegen You are my first stop shop spot I race down your aisles Though your bathrooms sting my nostrils Your McDonalds was my hero Your customers are as sweet as pie From your late night creeps To the last minute shopper How I love your out-of-place items And sliding down your freshly mopped aisles Every time I visit I try to let loose the bouncy balls But your security guards fling me to the curb Till our next visit Oh my Wally World
On the inside I’m Carbon. I’m fighting a battle, and I’m losing. I feel trapped. I’m tired, I feel unwanted. Like nobody cares. I am the color Blue, meaning two different things. I’m confident, yet shy. My name is Sidni Murphey, I’m lost, insecure, drained. I’m hopeful, dedicated, high-spirited, I am many colors. Never wanting to stay the same, I am different.
Basketball By: Sydney Smith It`s more than just a game It`s a feeling As the ball touches my hands I get a warm feeling The minute I shoot I wait for the ball to talk back to me While others see a game where you throw the ball I see perfection in each shot While some laugh at my excitement I can`t wait for the next time I score When I push the ball down I know it will always come back to me
Sky Diving By Travis Wray I’m in the airport I’m on a plane I’m going insane I put my flight suit on I don’t even know how long I will be gone When we reached the drop zone It was already too late to use the phone When the hatch to the plane opens up I finish my tea and set down my cup I jump out of the plane sailing through the air The wind and the breeze going through my hair I make one last glance at my boot And what do you know I forgot my suit
Limerick Fun!
Sitting in Class By Karissa Byington I sit in class Wondering what to write My mind is so blank it’s telling My pen to just write! My pen is moving but The words don’t make sense I try to read them over and over again My pen is still moving As I look at the clock Oh great, it’s 11 o’clock I need to rest but My pencil won’t let me I know! I’ll write about What’s happening
