In Grade 8, the students are really focused on the use of art elements and the principles of design. Some of the fun activities that we do to emphasize these key components are cartooning and the use of caricature drawing. The students choose an eighth grade staff member to draw a caricature for.
A caricature is a portrait with exaggerated features. We begin with a pencil outline of our subject, blocking in his/her general shapes. A caricature’s head is often larger than the body. We try to achieve a likeness of our teachers using careful observation. It is fun to play with the drawing and exaggerate the facial features. We keep doing this until we are satisfied that you have captured what you want!! Fun!!! ~ Mrs. Penfield’s Art Classes at West Middle School…..
