LeKoi
Hoospitality Design
Osaka, Japan
2023
Embracing the synthesis of traditional Japanese aesthetics and contemporary luxury, Le Koi is an innovative hotel design that seamlessly caters to the discerning tastes of middle to high-class clients. LeKoi unfolds as a harmonious blend of minimalist elegance, cultural richness, and cutting-edge comfort. Every element, from the architectural nuances to the interior decor, is thoughtfully curated to evoke a sense of tranquility, sophistication, and exclusivity. Drawing inspiration from the serene landscapes andrefined artistry of Japan, the hotel becomes a haven where modernity meets time-honored traditions, creating an immersive and unforgettable experience for esteemed clientele. In Japan, there is a deep-rooted culture, which comes from sado (tea ceremony), called omotenashi, meaning to wholeheartedly look after guests. The term is a microcosm of the country itself, representing the Japanese mindset of hospitality, centering around care rather than expectation. Japanese interior design in hospitality aims to provide guests with an immersive and serene experience, allowing them to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and find a sense of tranquility in space. It’s about creating a harmonious balance between form, function, and nature, which is deeply rooted in Japanese culture and tradition.

Dreamscape
Wellness & Inclusive Design
College of Architecture and Planning, Arlington, Texas 2024
Nestled within the campus’s design building, DreamScape offers an immersive indoor/outdoor experience. Upon entry, the fiber optic ceiling and surrounding tree structures captivate attention. To the right, a welcoming help desk introduces users to available amenities. Adjacent to the desk is a self-serve refreshment bar that heightens the experience. To the left, within the tree structures, are two sleeping pods equipped with a sound and LED light system that gives each user a 20-minute session. These pods are also equipped with UV sterilizers to ensure cleanliness, as well as a sanitation station placed in between the two pods. Using materials and certain design elements, the indoor space is created to give the user a sense of tranquility and allow them to relax and rejuvenate. Continuing deeper into the space and transitioning outdoors, the user is met with a variety of plants and seating options. The materials are utilized to mimic the serenity of an outdoor space and to immerse the user into the experience allowing them to recover their attention and relieve stress. DreamScape seamlessly blends indoor comfort with the serenity of nature for a holistic experience for students to meditate, socialize, or simply soak in the greenery and fresh air within their own building.

Research identifies college students as one of the most sleep-deprived groups in the United States (Forquer et al., 2008), impacting academic performance and elevating anxiety and depression levels (Pilcher & Walters, 1997). Studies suggest that short naps enhance alertness and cognitive function (Brooks and Lack, 2006; Dinges, 1989), while green spaces offer significant benefits for mental health and academic achievement as explained by Attention Recovery Theory and Stress Recovery Theory (Zhang et al., 2024). Utilizing these findings, a student-centric space can be designed, to allow for student rejuvenation between classes while addressing their specific needs for improved well-being and academic success.

YSL/TITANIC
Retail Design
Florence,Italy 2023
Showcased is the YSL and Titanic crossover. Influenced by the sinking scene and drawing inspiration from the iconic stair moment this pop-up shop is meant to embody the Titanic, while also promoting YSL’s most famous perfume “Libre”. Walking up to the space the exterior is monochromatic and simplistic, once entering through the doors that act as threshold it feels like the viewer is underwater. The walls are covered in luxurious deep blue marble, and columns work as display cases for the perfumes but flow into the ceiling to to make the room feel larger and support the theatrics of the movie. There is a mini bar for guests to grab a drink while they enjoy the party and listen to live music that is being performed at the top of the stairs. In the center of the room, there is a large iceberg display coming out of the water like flooring and is shaped into a heart to resemble Rose’s fallen necklace. The wall behind holds more of YSL’s latest collection and sits under the dome display, surrounded by water. Lastly is the display on the back wall intended to represent the lights of ships on the ocean late at night. The pop-up shop is meant to feel luxurious, unique, grand, and expensive like it would have felt to be able to be on board the Titanic during its prime.
