Too good to be true!

Ever since I remember working in the shipping sector, I have always kept in mind the phrase “Shipping is a national matter which is above parties and ideologies”.

This is how it should undoubtedly be. A segment of the national economy that does not in any way burden the state budget, that borrows from abroad, and that operates at international levels under a system of unrestrained competition, should be considered a “goose that lays golden eggs” for – any – national economy.

Unfortunately, with a few exceptions, shipping may remain “untouched” and the legislation that ensures it freedom of movement may still apply, but our various political leaderships have not yet managed to overcome their complexes about it.

Recently we have observed the deputy shipping minister firing various “missiles”, as well as his predecessor making announcements inviting him to resign because “he was saying other things before and different things now”.

What seems to us a pleasing note, however, was an announcement by New Democracy’s new shadow minister for shipping, Notis Mitarachi, who, from what he said, had a constructive dialogue with Theodoros Dritsas when they met.

According to the shadow minister: “With the deputy minister for the economy, Mr Dritsas, we discussed during our meeting all the major issues that concern Greek shipping.

The employment of Greek seamen, the coastal shipping connections of the islands, improvement of port infrastructure, upgrading of maritime training to revitalize the cruise sector etc.

Of course, much of our discussion revolved around

the upsurge in the immigration problem in the Aegean. For New Democracy, the continuous surveillance and protection of maritime borders, the substantial reinforcement of the forces making the endeavour – both Greek and European, a review of European policies and the avoidance of statements and decisions that send the wrong signals to people smugglers, remain a priority.

As far as the future of the Greek shipping sector is concerned, it is our belief that our country can and should invest in its comparative and competitive advantage, particularly in this unprecedented crisis we are experiencing.

The Greek merchant marine has unlimited potential and possibilities and we must take advantage of them. We just need to avoid any surprises and ideological preconceptions. It suffices to ensure a modern, competitive and above all stable business environment, which will bring significant benefits to the Greek economy. It is enough to adhere to the commitments we have undertaken to carry out major port investments that will upgrade the country’s strategic importance.

I want to thank Mr Dritsas for the update and to reconfirm on my part, as New Democracy’s shadow minister for shipping, that I will seek effective cooperation far removed from fruitless and pointless confrontations.

This is, in any case, the aim for the country. To leave behind malaise and inflexibility, and to quickly move ahead.”

Could anyone who loves shipping not agree? Hopefully we can continue in this vein...

Promising the moon

by Dimitris Kapranos So, I’d like to understand, what did the “poet” (Nikos Filis) want to say when he spoke of “trading in relics”?

Did Saint Barbara and the Eastern Orthodox Church promise a “Thessaloniki Programme” which they are unable to deliver?

Did Saint Barbara and the Eastern Orthodox Church speak at “Zappeion one and two” and then immediately recant?

Did Saint Barbara and the Eastern Orthodox Church “promise the moon”, only to be discovered with millions in foreign banks?

Lay off Filis mate, both you and your “progressive” friends who get your “knickers in a knot” whenever you hear talk of the Church or the Saints.

Are you really so upset that we received the Holy Relic with a ceremony “fit for a head of state”?

Have we forgotten that everyone stood to attention in front of Akis (Tsoch.) while the bands played and flags were lowered? Leaders hailed him and politicians bowed as the king of bribes and profiteering went by, head held high as if he’d swallowed a cane.

So, you’re bothered by the honour and faith shown to a woman who was sainted because she gave her life for those things that no one then dared admit. Lay off mate, you and your friends. Does it bother you that the people believe more in simple stuff, the divine and His words rather than yours, which hold no substance, faith or hope?

“Trading in relics”, eh? Why don’t you look at your own mess? You’ve turned the “shrine of democracy” into a children’s playground and a trading house for unfulfilled expectations and hopes.

Does it bother you that – according to Yannis Tsarouchis – “The Church has been putting on the same show for over two thousand years and it still draws a crowd”? What can you do? That’s how things are. The Church may say the same things year in and year out, but it seems they are beautiful and pleasing things which the people believe in more easily than in your words and promises. How long is it that you’ve been trying to persuade everyone that religion is the “opium of the masses”? Take a look at Russia and you will understand!

And when it comes down to it, I’ve never seen a Church youth group organize a “dope festival”!

This is why I say to you, don’t mess with ideas that you do not, and never will, understand. We respect – as much as is possible – your opinions. Why don’t you respect the majority, who believe in something which you cannot reach?

If things are as you say, then why does every ship have Saint Nicholas on the bridge? Why do we sing the hymn of Saint Nicholas at the launch of every ship? What would you have us sing? The Third International? Since you’re no good at the game, don’t bother. It doesn’t suit you...

About 650 guests were at the Greek Shipping Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Dinner 2015 as many leading participants in today’s shipping industry gathered to pay tribute to some of the greats of Greek shipping’s past.

Highlights of the gala dinner event included the announcement of the Inductees for 2014 – John N. Goulandris and Alkimos G. Gratsos – as voted for by the members of the Greek Shipping Hall of Fame Academy, as well as spots in the event to remember the 20 other Inductees, elected in past years.

Gregory Hadjieleftheriadis gave the ’15 Minutes of Fame’ speech, now a tradition at Hall of Fame annual dinners.

Mr Hadjieleftheriadis, a former President and CEO of Eletson Corporation who has received numerous industry awards and distinctions, both in Greece and internationally, spoke about marine transportation as the architect of globalisation – and the role of seafarers at the heart of it.

“All of us, as responsible citizens of the world, must work to eradicate the barriers that divide. We need to endorse policies which further the actualisation of true globalisation,” said Vassilis Kroustallis of ABS

Mr Hadjieleftheriadis. “This is what the greats of the Greek Shipping Hall of Fame have done and what they would have desired us to continue to do.”

Impressive industry support for the event was led by ABS, Clarksons Platou and the Liberian Registry as Co-Lead Sponsors of the Induction Ceremony & Dinner 2015.

Vassilios Kroustallis, Regional Vice President ABS, said that all the Inductees in the Hall of Fame were distinguished by their vision, determination, acumen and ability to lead and inspire others. “Their achievements and legacy deserve to be recognised by our shipping community here and abroad,” he told the audience. “We welcome coming together with you once a year to acknowledge them and celebrate their achievements.”

According to Andi Case, Chief Executive of Clarksons Platou, Greek shipping is “the powerhouse of the shipping industry”, internationally. “Greece is number one in shipping - the largest tonnage owner, the largest value owner - that is a very, very significant story for Greece in today’s economic climate,” Mr Case said. “That is a fact that I hope those in power, actually hold dear Scott Bergeron of Liberian Registry

and cherish the national treasure that is Greek shipping.”

Scott Bergeron, Chief Executive of the Liberian Registry, said that Greek shipowners such as Stavros Niarchos and Aristotle Onassis had helped establish the Liberian flag and that it remained the most popular open registry for Greek owners.

“Greece remains the undisputed number one shipping nation in the world, and it is significant that it has demonstrated its continuing faith in Liberia – the world’s leading open ship registry in such a transparent way,” Mr Bergeron told the audience.

TMS Group, which has become one of Greece’s largest shipping groups since it was established in 1986, sponsored the welcome cocktail party for the event. Founder George Economou told guests that the group wanted to support the Hall of Fame as “an organisation that is actively trying to promote Greek shipping, which is an integral part of the Greek economy”. He said, “We are going through uncertain times but one thing we can all refer to is the creativity and dynamism of the Greek shipping community.”

Two more historic shipping personalities have been inducted into the Greek Shipping Hall of Fame at the Induction Ceremony & Dinner 2015, held at the Hilton Athens. John N. Goulandris and Alkimos G. Gratsos were lauded as the Inductees for 2014 in front of about 650 guests at the event.

John N. Goulandris (1923-2011) was instrumental in establishing the N.J. Goulandris group, which was among the first major Greek shipping companies to order tankers in Japan. Mr Goulandris was remembered for being ahead of his time. In 1969, he led his family’s purchase of the Neorion Shipyards on the island of Syros, creating hundreds of jobs. He also manufactured perhaps the first electric car, the Enfield 8000.

Alkimos G. Gratsos (1907-1987) was the longest-serving president of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, laying the basis for the institution’s role today. He also served for 12 years as vice-president of the Union of Greek Shipowners. Together with Union president Stratis Andreadis he worked to create the legal basis for an international shipping industry in Greece. As well as shipping, he invested in land-based industry, contributing further to the Greek economy.

Mr Gauci-Maistre is the longa manus of local shipping, a true pioneer in the registration of ships under the Maltese flag, who recently demerged his business entrusting his son Jean-Pie (a lawyer) with the helm of Gauci-Maistre Xynou (Despina Xynou being the other partner), a specialized independent law firm and, as such, free to move on the market though very attentive to the former parent group’s needs.

“To set up a debate platform among Mediterranean countries in order to boost cooperation and business in the shipping sector, that’s the true meaning of this event we’ve strongly promoted”, noted Gauci-Maistre, commenting also on the latest topics, “In the last years M/V Titanic, a ‘coffin’ that over a century ago dragged 1,500 people to the sea-bottom, unfortunately sank several times in our waters. Nevertheless, if we want to think positive, the recurring tragedies of boat people drowned could provide a new legal hint, as it happened in the past for the series of disasters that happened to oil carriers and ferries, which led to the enforcement of important regulations that are today’s milestones of the international rules at sea.”

will continue to be pivotal for our economy. Malta’s ship register is Europe’s largest; besides, we host a lot of quality professional services in the shipping sector ready to help. We want to become one of the world’s major shipping centres, to become the Singapore of the Med! To date this lawful ambition has been crushed against a barrier of silence; and even nowadays I get personally frustrated because we’re not adequately spoken about, the media don’t give a fair evaluation of us. For instance, we’ve a clever school training young talents, while the maritime industry employs about 40,000 people in our country. Another challenge we must face is the exploitation of natural resources in the Med: here too we’ve a role to play. Today we officially commit ourselves to substantiate this project of essential purport for our island”, concluded Mizzi.

The Greek former Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Prof. Yannis Maniatis, as one of the keynote speakers of the conference, extensively analyzed the current challenges related to the promotion of energy security in conditions of geopolitical disruption, as well as the feasibility of the use of energy as a

factor of development, regional cooperation and stability. In this context he stressed the importance of Greece as an energy hub, referring to a number of issues including: the TAP pipeline; the Greek merchant fleet’s role in the transportation of liquefied gas (LNG); the trilateral cooperation between Greece, Cyprus and Egypt, and Greece’s cooperation with Israel; and development plans for the East Med (Israel, Cyprus, Greece, Italy), Vertical Corridor (Greece, Bulgaria, Romania) and Hellenic Stream (Turkey, Greece, FYROM, Serbia, Hungary) pipeline projects.

He stressed that Greek energy strategy is being planned in accordance with EU standards calling for the diversification of energy sources and energy flow, and a collaborative and complementary approach.

As to Ann Fenech – principal of the well-known law firm Fenech & Fenech, specialised in maritime litigation and ship mortgages – she too agreed that the preferential factors of her country do not depend solely on the tax scheme cutting taxes for shipping companies by means of a lump-sum payment: “Everybody has a tonnage tax, but we can and know how to bet on other assets like bunkering, repairs, yachting, and, more generally, a more friendly environment for foreign

entrepreneurs when compared with their country of origin”, she stressed.

Fenech also voiced her worries about the human drama unfolding these days: “Unfortunately I have to notice that there’s much more sensitiveness to environmental issues than to human beings. People and media’s reaction is stronger in case of maritime averages involving coasts than when human lives are at a loss, especially those from less fortunate countries.

Even the governments’ reaction is tougher when oil products are spilled at sea. This is a remarkable shipping paradox that must be solved, it’s sure.”

Shipping Industry faces major dilemma οn Ballast Water Management

The Round Table (RT) of International Shipping Organisations (comprising BIMCO, the International Chamber of Shipping, Intercargo and INTERTANKO) is deeply concerned if the international convention to regulate ships’ ballast water comes into force in the near future without a realistic implementation schedule that recognises the timetable for US type-approved Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS) to be available in sufficient quantities.

The RT believes that the resulting dilemma would force the international shipping industry to spend millions of dollars on BWMS that may not achieve US type-approval and therefore will need to be replaced in a short period of time.

The RT emphasizes that it supports the need for international requirements to protect local ecosystems from the impact of invasive species carried in ships’ ballast water. The RT also firmly believes that shipping is a global industry requiring global regulation. The Ballast Water Management Convention is developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and is therefore the best instrument to achieve this objective.

The RT expects the Convention will be ratified very shortly and enter into force as early as 2016. Shipowners that have not already done so, will be required to spend between US$1M and US$5M to install a BWMS on each of their ships in accordance with the schedule established in Assembly Resolution A.1088(28). It is estimated that there are 50,000 ships that require to be fitted with BWMS over a 5 year period.

However, this may also create an impossible situation for ships that trade to the United States, where unilateral national regulation is already in force. The US regulations ultimately require all ships that discharge ballast into US waters (12 miles) to treat this through a US Coast Guard (USCG) approved BWMS. Currently there are a number

of BWMS in the USCG testing and approval process, but none that have as yet received type approval. The RT has urged the US Coast Guard to approve as many ballast water management systems as possible, as soon as possible and provide a pragmatic schedule for the installation of such equipment. Further meetings between the RT and senior leaders of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) re-emphasised these points.

There are 54 BWMS approved under the IMO regime, but worryingly only 17 manufacturers have indicated an intent to submit their system for USCG approval testing.

There is no guarantee that systems submitted will gain approval under the stringent US testing regime; consequentially, when the IMO convention enters into force, ship operators trading to the US will be forced to fit a BWMS that may never achieve USCG type approval. If the chosen system does not obtain USCG approval, it will have to be replaced within 5 years in order to continue to trade to the US. A shipowner, who in good faith wants to comply with international and national ballast water management requirements, therefore faces an unacceptable position of having to possibly invest twice in a BWMS through no fault of his or her own.

Similarly, IMO Member States are strongly urged to take this potentially very costly issue into account when deliberating ballast water management issues at the upcoming 68th session of the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee. The safest way to avoid it is to ensure that there are sufficient USCG approved BWMS available on the market before the IMO Convention enters into force. This also implies that national BWMS manufacturers should be encouraged to apply for US approval; the low rate of application raises serious concerns over confidence in the operational capability of equipment that is already being sold.

The Mari6me Silk Road Ini6a6ve and the Mediterranean: Strategies, Tac6cs and Challenges

China has relatively recently promoted a dual Silk Road Economic Belt policy initiative, as shown in Figure 1 aiming to revive the ancient trade routes connecting Asia; the Middle East; and Europe and better connect the Euro-Asia economic circle. The policy has a multi discipline approach spanning from transport to utilities and telecommunications. One of the two aspects of this policy regarding transport connectivity is the so called 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (MSR), the other being the Overland Silk Road (OSR) spanning the Eurasian Continent. The Chinese Leadership uses the term “One Belt, One Road” to capture this dual connection strategy and initiative.

The dual Silk Road Economic Belt is an old story, since it stems from the history of Chinese efforts to export silk and promote trade. The Chinese Government publicly announced this 21st Century Silk Road initiative in October 2013. Regarding the China – Europe Corridor, the initiative covers a series of links and regional zones spanning from Xinjiang, in North-West China, to Baltic Sea. The MSR map, released by the Chinese, presents the Port of Piraeus as a main European gateway, with a second “entry point” in Venice (Figure 1).

The “One Belt, One Road” initiative underlines the era of the new economic diplomacy of China, promoted by the new Chinese Administration1. It is beyond any question that both the MSR and the OSR are designed to improve China’s geostrategic position in the world2, through a series of fundamental connectivity building blocks, a kind of “grand strategy” to diffuse globally the unprecedented economic growth and strength developed in China during the last two decades, through an innovative way, building regional and global synergies. It is the Chinese Leadership’s intention the building blocks to be integrated in a global development initiative, with special regional focus as required3. Building a worldwide network of allies through “soft power” diplomacy, trade and economic dependencies and gaining “strategic access”, creating strategic space for China is the essential element of this strategy4.

A $ 40 bn Silk Road Development Fund has been announced to fund and facilitate funding of the ambitious infrastructure development plan relating to the initiative5. This massive investment plan has been shaped not solely on economic ground, but it has a strong influential geostrategic component6.

Overland Silk Road

The OSR incorporates a very ambitious, yet viable, intercontinental series of rail corridors with major strategic importance, an emerging paradigm of multi-polarity cooperation. According to the Chinese Government the Northern (Overland) Silk Road (OSR) “…could become a new transport and logistics artery extending to Western Europe through Central and Eastern Europe”7.

European Union, on the other hand, pays great attention on the development and operation of a seamless OSR Rail Transport Corridor and Network. Recently, a Research Project entitled NEAR2 (Network of European –Asian Rail Research Capacities), sponsored by the European Commission 7th Framework Programme, incorporating 13 partners from Germany, Greece, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Poland, Russian Federation, Ukraine, India, and China and led by a Greek Transport Research Institution (Centre for Research and Technology Hellas/Hellenic Institute of Transport) has been completed. The scope of the Project was to identify existing bottlenecks along the Trans-Eurasian Corridors, assess potential solutions and highlight research priorities to ensure long term viability of the Corridors.

Another older EU funded project (RETRACK8) looked at the operational feasibility and the potential of the Eurasia landbridge corridors and the logistics developments along these corridors.

The idea of reviving the Silk Road has been cultivated a decade earlier, as China development strategy has gone, gradually, beyond the country’s borders9. According to the Chinese vision (Figure 2) three rail corridors should be considered. The first one is the existing Trans-Siberian Railway running from Vladivostok in Eastern Russia to Moscow and connecting onto Western Europe and Rotterdam; the second runs from Lianyungang port in Eastern China through Kazakhstan in Central Asia and onto Rotterdam; and the third runs from Pearl River Delta in Southeast China through South Asia to Rotterdam.

Maritime Silk Road, the Mediterranean and the Access to Europe

From a geography point of view the MSR seeks to develop links to a series of regional territories including South – East Asia; Indian Subcontinent; Middle East and the North Africa (MENA) region; Mediterranean; and North Europe. Regional economic influence and development of long lasting economic and political alliances is a fundamental component of the MSR initiative10. The importance paid to the MSR relates to the fact that China becomes more and more dependent on maritime transportation to reach global marketplaces.

Furthermore, the strategy includes overland expansion with links between ports and inland rail networks to expand physical hinterlands and facilitate access to markets through a series of alternative route combinations.

Regarding strategies and tactics relating to East Mediterranean, the initiative follows again a polyvalent approach. Cosco Pacific has a foothold, through a minority stake, in the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT). Chinese interests (construction companies

China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) and China Communication Construction Company (CCCC)) have been active in construction works at Port Said East Port and al-Adabiya port (at the Suez Canal’s southern end). At the same time, the same Chinese interests (CHEC through its Mediterranean Engineering PMEC arm) in September 2014 won the tender to finance and build a new deep sea port in Ashdod, though bidders for operation are TIL (MSC port arm) and Eurogate11,12. In March 2015, the Chinese company Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) won the Tender to operate a new deep sea port being built in Haifa and expected to be operational by the year 202113.

China has been involved in a cooperation scheme with Israel, through a memorandum signed in 2014, to construct a railway line that connects the Red Sea Port of Eilat and the Mediterranean Ports of Ashdod and Haifa. The rail line is called “Red–Med” (Figure 1).

The “package” of presence in the Israeli ports, along with the “Red-Med” rail corridor, while Chinese interests are actively involved in port development adhered to the Suez Canal, constitutes a dual track approach to ensure reliability of shipping from Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea under any circumstances, though the Port of Eilat in Red Sea does not have the required capacity to accommodate mainline deep sea shipping activities and the mini-lanbridge is not as competitive as the Suez Canal route14.

But the major foothold of Chinese port interests in Mediterranean is the Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) operation of Cosco Pacific subsidiary in Greece15. Apart from the SCCT and PCT in Piraeus, Cosco has a foothold in Genoa port16. Along with at least one of the two new ports to be built or operated

by Chinese interests in Israel (Ashdod and Haifa), this port network in Mediterranean provides substantial flexibility.

Policy diversification regarding connections to Central and Northern Europe, expanding the MSR, includes the development of the overland rail link announced on the occasion of the third meeting of the Heads of Government of China and Central and Eastern European Countries held in Belgrade in December 201417

by China’s Prime Minister Li Keqiang. This Land-Sea Express Line between China and Europe exploits fully the location potential of the Port of Piraeus, an operation exclusively managed by a Chinese company; may also achieve better transit times to destination; and provides direct access to the East European countries, an area of special economic interest for China. The EU, together with the N. America, are the main export destination markets for China, while East Europe is a market segment that is not fully exploited by Chinese exporters yet. The Line will be based on the Port of Piraeus and the rail links to the CEEC Countries. endorsed following the meeting, through the Belgrade-Budapest rail link18. Chinese Government considers this Line as a model for China-Europe cooperation on connectivity.

Moreover, a China – CEEC Investment Cooperation Fund is due to be established, in accordance with the EU-China 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation. According to the Agenda, it is anticipated for Transport and Infrastructure to “…Actively explore models of infrastructure cooperation, including project bonds, project shareholding, joint contracting and co-financing, and further coordinate the cooperation among China, the EU and its Member States in the above-mentioned fields.19” The Port of Piraeus is a fundamental nodal point in this LandSea Express Line between China and Europe. The port has climbed to the fourth position among Mediterranean ports, after Algeciras, Valencia, and Port Said in the year 2014 reaching a record volume of 3.62 million TEUs and it is anticipated to reach an annual traffic throughput of 3.89 million TEUs in 201520. The split of annual throughput for the year 2014 between the PCT Terminal and the PPA SA Terminal is 2.99 and 0.63 million TEUs respectively. Following a prosperous course in the early 2000’s, reaching a figure of 1.61 million TEUs in the year 2003, the port traffic has dropped to a lean figure of 0.66 million TEUs in the year 2009 and after establishment of PCT has shown a tremendous increase of 440 % in the year 2014, as compared to the year 2009.

When the western part of the Pier III will be completed, the total annual capacity of the port will become around 6.2 million TEUs. Currently, the percentage of transshipment traffic is around 80%, as a result of a strategic decision of the Cosco Group and its partners of the CHKYE Alliance to shift cargo to Piraeus (e.g.

Evergreen shifted all its services from Taranto, Italy, which is a terminal co-owned by Evergreen and Hutchison Ports21). As the restructuring of the container shipping industry with the predominance of the four alliances (2M, G6, Ocean Three, CHKYE) will continue to evolve, along with the rapid employment of Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs) in the mainliner services, the number of the port calls in these services will continue to decrease and the role of the feeder networks around major transshipment hubs will be rapidly expanded. The role of ULCVs in Far East – Mediterranean trades is already pivotal, since the 56% of the total capacity employed in the Asia - Mediterranean services corresponds to container vessels with a carrying capacity of more than 10,000 TEUs22. Therefore, the role of Piraeus as a transshipment hub, along with serving the Greek imports/exports will be sustained and strengthened.

The real challenge now is whether a reliable and viable rail link between Piraeus and Central Europe can be realized and the port can serve as the transit node for the cargo moving along the Land-Sea Express Line. The current flow of cargo through rail to Central Europe is rather marginal, around 90 block trains from the beginning of the service in June 2014, as compared to the big plans of the Chinese Leadership. Attracting substantial rail transit traffic is a prerequisite for Piraeus to become the real “bridgehead” for the Maritime Silk Road connection to Europe23. It is notable, that the Chinese interests abstained from expressing

interest for the long-lasting process of the privatization of TRAINOSE SA, the national passenger and freight rail operator in Greece.

Concluding Remarks

The “One Belt, One Road” initiative is a real breakthrough in the Chinese international policy, a visionary effort to “export” the remarkable Chinese development of the last two decades through a polyvalent, yet coherent strategy. Europe and, particularly, East European markets is a primary goal of the dual strategies of the Silk Road.

Inevitably, the Maritime Silk Road links in the Mediterranean and the intention of the Chinese Leadership to establish and develop the Land-Sea Express Line between China and East/Central Europe place the port of Piraeus at a pivotal point. Cosco Pacific through its local subsidiary PCT appears determined to fully exploit the opportunities arising from the location and the exclusive management of the container terminal.

Attracting remarkable transshipment traffic volumes is, solely, the first step in the process of establishing Piraeus as the premium Maritime Silk Road gateway to Europe, the ultimate goal being to establish the port as a major rail transit hub to East/Central Europe.

Whether this goal will be accomplished through a “big shot” project providing the Chinese Leadership with a fundamental control of the rail transport in Greece, along with similar projects in the CEEC Countries, or through a series of smaller, cooperating, rail operators remains to be seen. The EU legislative constraints; the overall course of the China-EU bilateral relations; the on-going and deteriorating economic crisis in Greece and the approach of the new left wing Greek Government regarding geopolitical alliances and the course of privatizations will affect this decision.

On the broader picture, another fundamental question raised recently is whether the MSR and OSR will be limited to a string of bilateral agreements between China and individual countries, or between China and regional groups like the European Union and ASEAN. In any case, Greece is in the core of these developments and despite the present precarious situation for the country, a long term robust strategy needs to be shaped. The positive developments of the China-Greek cooperation, so far, have been driven mainly by the Chinese side…

Workshop on Shipping Debt and Equity Capital Markets As part of ALBA Graduate Business School’s long term commitment towards bridging theory and practice, Spyros Vougious, Director of ALBA’s Shipping Programs and Ioannis Alexopoulos, Visiting Lecturer of Shipping Finance and Director at Eurofin S.A., organized on March 24, a Workshop on Ship-Finance for its Shipping MSc. and MBA post-graduate students.

During the Workshop, three experienced, well respected and internationally recognized shipping finance professionals were invited at ALBA’s premises and delivered a speech on ship-finance, each in his respective field of expertise.

Dimitris Anagnostopoulos, member of the Board of Directors of Aegean Baltic Bank, delivered a speech covering shipping finance from a Debt Finance perspective.

Anthony Argyropoulos, Managing Director of Seaborne Capital, presented latest developments in the Private and Public Equity markets and discussed their availability in today’s environment.

Nikolas Arachovas, Financial Advisor to Allseas Marine S.A. delivered a speech on the Equity Capital markets, from a public shipping company’s perspective.

The audience was comprised by more than 100 delegates (from Greece, China, Norway and other countries), the majority of which, were ALBA post-graduate MSc and MBA students in shipping.

Spyros Vougious opened the Workshop welcoming the Guest Speakers, students, alumni and guests, stressing ALBA’s Commitment towards delivering high level post-graduate education, especially in the shipping industry.

Dimitris Anagnostopoulos of Aegean Baltic Bank provided an in depth analysis of the Greek ship-financing landscape with information on Shipping Banks that support the local ship owning community. His presentation then covered latest developments that took place from 2010 onwards, making reference to the Banks’ efforts to deal with problem loan situations whilst avoiding any write-offs and complying with stricter Capital Adequacy rules. Furthermore he analysed how different Banks and Owners react in a shipping downturn, emphasizing the importance of Credit Analysis.

Anthony Argyropoulos of Seaborne Capital Advisors started his presentation, providing a very detailed analysis of the latest developments in the Public Equity Capital Markets covering topics such as Initial Public Offerings (IPO), Follow-on Offerings, Valuation and the IPO process. He then discussed Private Equity, as well as High Yield Bonds as capital sources for the shipping industry. He also analyzed how leverage affects publicly listed shipping companies’ performance and completed his presentation by highlighting through analytical examples the importance of Timing.

Finally, Nicholas Arachovas, Financial Advisor to Allseas Marine S.A. presented some of the key elements a shipowner has to consider when considering to proceed with an Initial Public Offering (IPO). He then provided information on public shipping companies’ significant equity raising during 2013, when markets and valuations had improved. As a final remark he commented that the public equity markets are expected to have an increasing role in the years to come.

The Workshop was followed by a Questions and Answers (Q&A) session, during which students had the opportunity to raise questions to the panel of the shipping finance professionals.

Yacht charterers face challenging year as Russian market sinks Greece’s healthy yacht chartering industry heads into this summer in a spirit of cautious optimism, counting on a steady global clientele that won’t be put off by political and economic uncertainty.

“Yacht chartering and brokerage has always been an elite business,” says Peter Custer, an Athens-based independent yacht consultant and broker with many years of experience in the Greek business.

Yet there is no lack of challenges for the heavilytourism related industry, from worrying headlines emanating from Greece to the tricky economics of owning and operating vessels in the large-yacht market. For example, since last year the bottom has fallen out of the vital Russian market, and the resulting gap is only beginning to be filled by American and European charterers.

Russian clients until recently made up at least 45 percent of the large-yacht market – that dealing with modern vessels of more than 30m in length – according to Custer. However, he cautions, yachting is quite a different business from classic shipping, and business models that apply to commercial shipping often don’t apply to yacht chartering.

As with other parts of the Greek maritime business, it’s hard to put specific figures on size. Yet the country’s yacht chartering industry, thanks to competent global networking and top-of-the-line vessels, is holding its own and then some. “Look at the Americans,” says Custer, himself an American. “They love to come to Greece and sail the islands.”

woes don’t help, of course, but most of the wealthier, more sophisticated clients realize, in Custer’s words, that “a demonstration in Syntagma Square has absolutely no effect on Mykonos,” for example. However, highly-publicized unrest in the capital has triggered mass cancellations in the past.

Greek yacht brokering held a showcase in early May at Nafplion, featuring vessels chartering for between 20,000 and 200,000 euros a week. Attendance was described as satisfactory, though brokers worry about an imminent oversupply of yachts , a concern which the rest of the maritime business shares. This gives brokers and charterers more flexibility in dealing with anxious owners, who for the most part are not in it for profits. Marketing and advertising tends to be on the discreet side. “The hard sell doesn’t work,” says Custer, “and neither does the cold call. It’s more a matter of quiet networking.”

International competition doesn’t overly worry the Greek yacht chartering business – yet. The closest rival, Turkey, lags behind in number of charter companies and vessel quality, but according to Custer “is catching up.” Vacationers on the eastern Aegean islands will be familiar with the Turkish gullets, or wooden-hulled passenger yachts, that regularly steam over from the Turkish mainland crammed to the gunwales with day-trippers.

Cheaper Turkish rates, however, tend to attract northern European holidaymakers. Another potential competitor for Greece is Spain, whose laws were recently liberalized to allow for more flexible yacht chartering.

In the final analysis, say brokers, there will always be the sunny skies and sapphire seas of Greece, which essentially advertise themselves. Blips such as the Russian market collapse, while affecting mass-tourism services, do not harm the elite end very much. If the shiny yachts are there, the industry believes, they will be filled regardless.

Greece at a critical juncture George Vernicos has connected his name and his career with Greek yachting, which is why his views are particularly relevant and significant. One of the most important and experienced representatives of the sector, a man with a diverse professional and political profile, George Vernicos answers our questions about the present and future of professional Greek yachting, which has seen better days.

Do you think 2015 will be better than 2014? How are charterings holding up, and what are charterers doing?

As we already know, in 2014 we had record arrivals of foreign tourists, which reached 22 million and together with cruise arrivals, 24 million, and according to statistics from the Bank of Greece, travel revenue amounted to 13.44 billion euro. We have a promising first quarter in 2015, with a significant increase in tourists, so we continue to be optimistic that in 2015 we will manage to have around 25 million tourists, registering a new record for arrivals. Naturally, there are problems and uncertainties until the last moment, which will have a particular impact on the total foreign exchange which will flow into our country. Signs in the yachting sector so far for 2015, show fluctuations, maintaining optimism for sailing vessels but causing great anxiety about the final outcome for the charter of crewed vessels.

Greek marine tourism professionals are continually improving their fleet with new quality boats and the services offered. An ongoing requirement of marine tourism is intensive advertising of our industry abroad. To this end, a collaboration between SETE and the GNTO is needed to maximize the results. Our presence at key maritime and tourism trade fairs is important, particularly those for charters – I refer to the boat shows in Dßsseldorf and Paris.

Has the political scene affected your business? What are you hearing from foreign charter firms?

Greece is at a critical juncture in its history, where tough negotiations with its European partners are being conducted. Ob-

viously, the overriding issue is to achieve a positive outcome the soonest possible and a resolution of the uncertainty.

There is close cooperation and a good relationship with both the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Elena Kountoura, and the Minister of Economy, Infrastructure, Shipping and Tourism, George Stathakis. I am sure they will do whatever they can within the framework of government policy for the good of the sector.

The past two or three years appear to have seen more movement in the sector. Do you think the new tax measures will affect the yachting market?

It is important that we avoid a new targeting of recreational craft, whether through new taxation charges or a requirement for new documents, bureaucratic formalities, etc. Already, many vessels have left Greece and it is indicative that the turnover of marinas has fallen from the 40 million euro it was before the crisis, to the 26 million euro which was the turnover of marinas in Attiki in 2014.

The new law passed in 2014 gives incentives to professional vessels, and to boat owners from other countries, to permanently dock their vessels in Greece. It is important to have a competitive institutional framework because we have direct competition from Turkey. I hope that there will be no additional charges.

What is the international situation like? For example: Italy, Turkey, Croatia? Are our competitors getting stronger, or is it the other way round?

The current situation is far from being satisfactory. The great crisis that our country has been going through since 2008 has resulted in a major setback on all fronts: investment, infrastructure, etc. I note that there was a crisis in all countries, but with us it was and still is, deeper. We lost a large percentage of the clientele for crewed vessels to Turkey and Croatia, while sailing yachts generally held up well. Of course, after the very difficult period, 2013 and 2014 presented improvement.

Compared with our competitors, I would point out that Turkey has the advantage of not being a member of the European Union, so it has more flexibility on taxation matters and at the same time finds itself in another phase of the economic cycle.

Italy also faced problems in the 2009-2012 period, but now things seem more balanced. Croatia is also at a stage of steadily gaining its share of ground. It is taking advantage of the fact that it is closer to the centre of Europe by road and is making a significant effort in marine tourism.

Remember that the whole area of the Eastern Mediterranean,

Dalmatian Coast, Greece and Turkey, is considered the best place in the world for marine recreation. We need peace, security and as far as possible, common navigation rules, tax rates and labour relations. Do you think 2015 will be better than 2014? How are charterings holding up, and what are charterers doing?

Since several years we have an activated bareboat market in Greece. Unfortunately the same doesn’t apply to the crewed yachting where things are tough mainly due to the existing relevant legislation.

Has the political scene affected your business? What are you hearing from foreign charter firms?

The prospective charterers from specific countries (i.e. Germany, England), prefer this year to chose alternative destinations.

The past two or three years appear to have seen more movement in the sector. Do you think the new tax measures will affect the yachting market?

Any VAT increase or other measure towards that direction would make our product less competitive. We must understand that even rumors dragged for too long are affecting the yachting market.

What is the international situation like? For example: Italy, Turkey, Croatia? Are our competitors getting stronger, or is it the other way round?

Some 20 years ago the yachting in Turkey and Croatia was almost non existent, while Greece had nearly 4,000 professionally licensed charter yachts. Today Greece has about 3,000 charter yachts while Turkey has nearly 4,000 thousand and Croatia about 2,500. Unfortunately, the numbers are speaking by themselves.

Yachting is the eminently high end tourism sector, the average per diem of which is 4-5 times higher than that of the average tourist. In addition, the yachts are helping the economy of the small, remote islands that are not reached by big cruise ships and many tourists. However, the necessary infrastructure continues to be poor in Greece throughout the years.

The 15 marinas of about 25 years ago in Greece have become 25 today, while the 7 Croatian marinas of 25 years ago are now more than 100 and a similar picture of development appears to be in Turkey.

Season 2015 for Greece looks very good, we estimate that we will have an increase of approx 10% from 2014 that was already an excellent season.

Has the political scene affected your business? What are you hearing from foreign charter firms?

Despite the increase we have in the business, the uncertain economical situation of the Greek state has affected the reservations after the end of February.

It is not possible to measure the effect but discussing with our main agents worldwide, they all agree with this because of the feedback they get from the customers.

The past two or three years appear to have seen more movement in the sector. Do you think the new tax measures will affect the yachting market?

Tax and VAT increase, measures will certainly effect the yachting sector, which nowadays runs with very limited (if no losses) margins.

What is the international situation like? For example: Italy, Turkey, Croatia? Are our competitors getting stronger, or is it the other way round?

Our company operates yachts in all countries of Mediterranean so we have a direct idea what's going on.

Turkey and Italy are going better than last year while Croatia is significantly less.

It was introduced against a backdrop of rising bunker costs, tightening environmental regulations and the introduction of mandatory Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plans (SEEMP). Presently, over 260 full ships have been painted with this innovative coating, a demonstration of how well it has been received by ship operators.

The technology behind HEMPAGUARD®, named ActiGuard®, was five years in development and is based on silicone-hyrdrogel and biocide science. ActiGuard® integrates silicone-hydrogel and full diffusion control of biocides in a single coating. Surface retention of the biocide activates the hydrogel, which effectively holds fouling organisms at bay, cutting friction to a minimum while utilizing a minimum amount of biocide. This low amount of biocide ensures that the coating is very smooth after application. It also has the long-term stability and mechanical properties required of a durable solution. The result is a unique fouling defence system which provides significant advantages for fleet operators all over the world. Furthermore, unlike regular hull coatings that, in general, are specified according to the vessel’s speed and activity level, HEMPAGUARD® retains its effectiveness when switching between slow and regular steaming.

A recent trend for slow steaming has emerged and this means antifoulings that had previously relied on the relatively fast movement of the vessel through the water to help remove biological organisms are now becoming less effective. This has paved the way for a new generation of below the water coatings that are particularly suited to slower speeds.

GLOBIC 8000, for example, is a new Hempel hydrolysing self-polishing antifouling product that utilises proprietary nano acrylate technology to deliver a fine polishing control mechanism. This brings the coating’s integral biocides to the surface at a stable rate ensuring a clean hull. Whilst it can be used on all vessels at all speeds its nano acrylate technology binder makes it particularly effective for slow-steaming operations because of its instant activation of polishing and biocide leaching. Such is the enhanced performance of this new antifouling product that Hempel states that can reduce fuel costs by approximately 4%- this represents a significant saving. DYNAMIC 8000 on the other hand, was developed to give an outstanding antifouling service at higher speeds. DYNAMIC 8000 utilises silylated acrylate technology to deliver an outstanding antifouling service at higher speeds.

Hempel’s newest product is the HEMPADUR QUATTRO XO, a high performance range of pure epoxy PSPC compliant coatings for marine new-buildings. Although this coating was specifically developed for ballast water tanks in new vessels, it can also be used as a uni-primer for most vessel areas, above and below the waterline, providing high quality performance and peace of mind for customers.

Tatsuo Nishikawa wins DNV GL COMPIT award for 2015

Tatsuo Nishikawa has been announced as the winner of the DNV GL COMPIT Award 2015. The Japanese CFD (computational fluid dynamics) expert, working for the Shipbuilding Research Centre of Japan in Tokyo, was honoured for his paper’s contribution to the use of high-performance computing in the maritime industry, at the COMPIT Conference which took place from 11 to 13 May in Ulrichshusen, Germany.

Since the turn of the century, the sharp end of computing power has been transformed by the rise of massively parallel computers with tens of thousands of processors and millions of individual cores. This new architecture has been especially valuable in allowing experts working in shipping to run Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) calculations to simulate vessel hydrodynamic performance more accurately than ever before, in less time.

In Dr Nishikawa’s paper “Application of Fully Resolved Large 32 SHIPPING MAY 2015

Eddy Simulation to Self-Propulsion Test Condition of DoubleModel KVLCC2”, he presents numerical ship propulsion tests performed on Japan’s K-computer, currently the fifth largest computer in the world, using 60 billion cells and 200000 cores in parallel. This is some 10,000 times the number of cells and cores available to even the most powerful computing clusters currently used in industry applications.

“Dr Nishikawa’s paper gives us a preview of what we can expect to see in CFD as we are able to access greater computing power over the coming years. It is like a look into the future, as we go from having teraFLOPS to petaFLOPS, even exaFLOPS of power at our disposal,” said COMPIT organiser Volker Bertram, DNV GL. “Over the next 10 to 15 years the industry will begin to have comparable processing capability at our disposal and will benefit from Dr. Nishikawa’s pioneering work.”

The jury singled out Dr Nishikawa, from a short list of several highly qualified candidates, because his paper gives a preview of how massively parallel computing could further enhance efficiency in ship design. While despite the specialized competence in ship hydrodynamics demonstrated, the paper remains readable, understandable and relevant to a wider audience. His work also uses technology at the edge of innovation to make ships greener, reflecting one of DNV GL’s core values.

COMPIT is the abbreviation for “Computer Applications and Information Technology in the Maritime Industries“. The conference, which took place for the fourteenth time, offered information on advanced IT applications for the lifecycle of ships and offshore structures. Topics such as “Simulation-based Design”, “3D Hull Models”, “Towards Unmanned Ships” and “Big Data & Performance Insight”, amongst others, were discussed by the participants. As in previous years, DNV GL was a main sponsor of this event.

ClassNK releases PrimeShip-GREEN/ProSTA

New ISO-based Progressive Speed Trial Analysis software free to industry ClassNK (Chairman and President: Noboru Ueda) releases PrimeShip-GREEN/ProSTA, making it the world’s first classification society to develop software which analyzes and calculates a ship’s speed trial results for EEDI calculation in compliance with the latest IMO Guidelines on 1 May 2015.

MARPOL AnnexVI states one parameter to calculate EEDI as the ship’s speed in calm sea conditions based on the speed trial results. To eliminate the effects of external factors during sea trial (wind, waves, current, water depth, sea temperature) and provide a way to analyze and calculate a ship’s speed in calm sea conditions, IMO assigned two methods in its Guidelines on survey and certification of the Energy Efficiency Design Index. Those were ISO 15016:2002 and the International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) Recommended Procedures.

In response to requests from IMO to eliminate this dual standard, ISO and ITTC worked together to create the new

harmonized international standard ISO 15016:2015 which was published on 1 April 2015. ISO 15016:2015 will be adopted at this month’s MEPC68 and is expected to apply to all sea trials from June 2015.

In addition to providing technical support for standard harmonization, ClassNK has also developed support tools such as PrimeShip-GREEN/ProSTA for shipyards, shipowners, and the greater maritime industry to enable smooth adoption of the amended standard. The software enables ship designers to calculate the ship’s speed in compliance with ISO15016:2015 and reduces the workload required for EEDI calculation.

Expanding international testing, inspection, certification and consulting engineering group RINA has grown strongly during 2014, propelled by an upturn in marine, acquisition in the energy sector and international diversification.

Turnover for 2014 grew 13 per cent to Euro 333 million.

EBITDA (adjusted) grew to Euro 37.7m.

Results for RINA’s Energy business line stood out in 2014, growing 23 per cent thanks to the consolidation of the acquisition of materials specialist CSM (Centro Sviluppo Materiali) and outstanding growth in countries such as Indonesia and Brazil.

Floating offshore units have a specific focus within RINA.

They include offshore support vessels, mobile drilling rigs, offshore field construction units, oil and gas import and export offshore terminals and floating production and storage units. Class and class related specialist services to this sector grew throughout 2014, totalling at the year’s end about 1.45m GT and 320 units in operation or ongoing new building and conversion projects.

The Marine business grew 5 per cent. RINA Services, the group company which delivers ship classification and certification ended the year with a classed fleet of 5,166 vessels totalling 34m GT and with an order book for 680 vessels totalling 4.6m GT. RINA also confirmed its place as the global leader in classification of passenger ro-ro ferries and ro-ro vessels in general and as a major player in the cruise ship sector, whether measured by classed fleet or new order book.

New orders in 2014 included two mega cruise ships for MSC Cruises. The 5,300-passenger vessels will be built by Fincantieri and will include innovative open spaces and very high environmental performance. RINA Services is also classing a significant jumboisation project for MSC Cruises, the Renaissance Project. Also in the cruise sector Seabourn Cruise Line ordered two 604-passengers luxury cruise vessels to RINA class at Fincantieri and RINA class was chosen

RINA also focussed on providing value-added services to shipowners, always aiming to reduce costs, reduce risks and improve fleet availability. The strong service ethic of RINA’s global network led shipowners to move 400 ships totalling 2.6m GT to RINA class during 2014.

Within the rest of the group, Business Assurance grew 3.5 per cent and Transport and Infrastructures grew 20 per cent and for the first time were able to compete in major projects outside Italy. Food testing and certification grew 13 per cent with Agroqualità, RINA’s food company, becoming the leader in South Italy and the second largest nationally.

RINA’s consulting engineering company D’Appolonia grew 7 per cent thanks to diversification and international growth in areas such as the Mozambique, India, Uruguay, USA. RINA’s group strategy of growth through targeted acquisition continued with the acquisition of material specialist CSM, Tunisian food laboratory Lab21, Brazilian certification company Bracert and marine survey company Hayes Stuart in Canada. This international growth was underpinned by the capital investment of Intesa Sanpaolo and Vei Capital who together provided Euro 25m in capital and put at the disposal of the group a further Euro 75m to fund the international growth plan.

Appointment of Dr Henrik O. Madsen as a Board member of the UN Global Compact United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Dr Henrik O. Madsen, Group President & Chief Executive Officer of DNV GL, as a new board member to the UN Global Compact board, the world’s largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative.

As a Board member, Dr Madsen will join other leaders from business, labour and civil society, and serve as a champion of the UN Global Compact and its mission. He will act in a personal and honorary capacity for a period of three years, starting from 1 June 2015.

In his letter of appointment, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon welcomes Dr Madsen to “this joint effort to strengthen and guide the United Nations Global Compact”, and says that he is looking forward to working with him “through the Board towards our shared vision of a sustainable and inclusive global economy”.

ClassNK releases amendments to Class Rules Rules and Guidance for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships Leading classification society ClassNK (Chairman and President: Noboru Ueda) has announced that it released amendments to its Rules and Guidance for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships on 8 May 2015.

ClassNK continuously reviews, updates, and amends its technical rules and guidance as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the safety of life and property at sea, and to protect the marine environment. The Rules and Guidance are amended regularly in order to reflect the latest research results from damage investigations as well as changes made to relevant international conventions, IACS Unified Requirements, national regulations, and requests from the maritime industry. Seatrade Award for DNV GL classed Ampere, world's first fully electric vessel Ampere, the world’s first large fully electric vessel, has received the Seatrade Clean Shipping award for 2015. Owned and operated by Norled and designed and constructed by Fjellstrand, the DNV GL classed car ferry is a fully battery driven catamaran made of aluminium. Innovative not only in its propulsion system but in its highly efficient hull design the 80 metre long vessel is able to carry 120 cars and 360 passengers across the Sognefjord between the villages of Lavik and Oppedal in Norway.

The award was accepted by Sigvald Breivik, Technical Director of Norled, on behalf of the project partners. “Norled are proud to be the first ferry operator to operate the world’s first zero emission ferry,” he said.

“We are honoured to have been part of the Ampere project and to have received this award,” said Narve Mjøs, Director Battery Services & Projects at DNV GL – Maritime. “This has been a very exciting project to work on and we were very pleased that we could help to realise the vision of Norled and Fjellstrand. Vessels such as the Ampere demonstrate how the industry can use existing technologies to improve its impact on the environment, while at the same time maintaining economic operations.”

Ampere was christened by Norwegian minister of Trade and Industry, Monica Mæland, at the Fjellstrand yard in October 2014 and is one of three ferries operated by Norled on the route between Lavik and Oppedal. The ferry runs 34 times each day, with a crossing time of 20 minutes. Between trips the 1MWh lithiumpolymer battery pack on board can be charged in ten minutes. As the power required to charge the vessel is beyond the capacity of the electrical grid serving the villages of Lavik and Oppedal, battery buffers have been installed at both ports. These buffer batteries can be continuously charged from the grid to provide a quick charge to the ferry’s batteries.

In economic terms, battery hybridisation of ferries can provide potential fuel cost savings of 10% to 30%, with a payback time of three to five years, while all-electric ferries can produce fuel cost savings of 50% to 80%.

The combination of the slim aluminium catamaran hull and propulsion system of 2 x 450 kW Azimuth thrusters and 2 x 450 kW electric motors means the Ampere is optimised for energy efficiency, while at the same time giving the vessel very good low speed and manoeuvring characteristics. Ampere has the DNV GL class notation 1A1 LC R4 (nor) Car Ferry C Battery Power. The battery power notation is mandatory for vessels that

use batteries as one of their main sources – or the sole source – of energy for propulsion.

DNV GL has developed several tools to help the spread of battery and electric, such as tentative class rules for battery power, a guideline for large maritime battery systems, a new tool for qualifying battery related systems, a battery ready service (technical, economic and environmental performance analyses), battery sizing and optimisation tools and an introduction course to maritime battery systems.

This is not the first time the industry has celebrated the Ampere.

During the SMM global shipping exhibition in Hamburg, the Norwegian shipping magazine ‘Skipsrevyen’ gave the annual ‘Ship of the year’ award to the Ampere’s owners, designers and yard.

Hamburg’s shipping and sailing community came together at the city’s yacht harbour on May 7, as DNV GL and Hamburgischer Verein Seefahrt (HVS) christened the offshore racing yacht “Broader View Hamburg”. The classification society has taken up the sponsorship of the Andrews 56 vessel to support and encourage more young people to develop their interest in ocean sailing and maritime topics in general.

The “Broader View Hamburg” is used for training purposes and takes part in races worldwide. Built by Alan Andrews in 1999, its light frame allows the vessel to sail at speeds of up to 24 knots.

“The new name ‘Broader View’ represents our aim to recognise the conjunctions between technology, environment and society and include this into our work. HVS shares our commitment to promoting the highest safety standards and we are very pleased to support them in their efforts in training and racing with young sailors,” said Tor Svensen, CEO DNV GL – Maritime, during the christening ceremony at the Hamburg Yacht Harbour.

The vessel has been financed with the help of sponsorships for more than 15 years. DNV GL is taking over from the German investment company Norddeutsche Vermögen. “We are very happy to be involved in giving young people the opportunity to try offshore racing and we hope that this sponsorship can help to promote safer yacht racing. Naming of UASC containership Barzan sees first vessel with DNV GL’s new GAS READY class nota6on hit the water

Barzan, the first in a series of six 18,800 TEU container vessels ordered by UASC, was recently named at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) in Mokpo, South Korea. The vessel is the first to receive classification society DNV GL’s new GAS READY notation. Her five sister ships, as well as eleven 15,000 TEU vessels of UASC’s newest eco-ship generation, will be given the GAS READY notation as well.

“We are proud to help realise the world’s greenest ultra-large container vessel in close cooperation with UASC,” said Henrik O. Madsen, Group President and CEO of DNV GL. “Due to the trust placed in our expertise on alternative fuels, we implemented the ‘LNG ready’ concept with UASC as an industry first, and are honoured that these next-generation ships are now also the first to receive DNV GL’s Gas Ready Notation. UASC acted as a pioneering customer that aims to even further reduce CO₂ emissions through conversion to gas fuel operation when the bunker infrastructure is ready.”

Barzan, the largest vessel in UASC’s fleet to date, and all of the other 16 vessels in the current new building program, have been designed and constructed with the vision of undertaking a quick and cost efficient retrofit to LNG at a later stage. The DNV GL class notation GAS READY with nominators (D,S,MEc,AEi) demonstrates that the vessel is in compliance with the gas fuelled notation rules, that structural reinforcements to support fuel containment system (LNG tank) have been verified (S), that the main engines installed can be converted to dual fuel (MEc ) and that the auxiliary engines installed can be operated on gas (AEi).

“We are expanding our fleet by building larger, greener vessels, which support our global ambitions to fulfill or even exceed our customers’ environmental requirements. We have worked closely with DNV GL to deliver the industry’s greenest container vessel to date, the Barzan. We believe that this vessel, as well as the rest of the vessels in our new building program, demonstrates our commitment to technical innovation and eco-effectiveness,” said Jørn Hinge, President and Chief Executive Officer of UASC. “For UASC, achieving optimum efficiency levels is not a single initiative or project, it is a strategy and an ongoing commitment, and we will continue to work with DNV GL on the remaining newbuild vessels that have the lowest levels of CO2 output in their class”, he added.

“Gas will almost certainly continue to grow in importance as a fuel for shipping over the coming few years,” said Gerd Würsig, Business Director LNG fuelled ships at DNV GL – Maritime. “The framework and technical requirements have been laid and as the infrastructure spreads it will become a more mainstream option for efficient and low emission shipping. It is by working with forward looking owners and yards like UASC and HHI that we at DNV GL have been able to build our competence in this field and offer such unique solutions as the GAS READY notation.”

Next to the LNG readiness, Barzan and her sister vessels incorporate several innovative energy saving methods, including a Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS). This converts thermal energy from the exhaust gas from the main engines into electrical power to maximize the efficiency of the system.

Preliminary calculations indicate that Barzan will have an EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) value that is close to 50 per cent less than the 2025 limit set by IMO, with a CO2 output per TEU that is more than 60 per cent lower than a 13,500 TEU vessel delivered just three years ago. The 18,800 TEU containership has been constructed to DNV GL class rules with the notations: 1A1 Container Carrier DG-P Shore Power E0 NAUT-OC HMON (A1,C1,G4) CLEAN BWM-T BIS TMON NAUTICUS (Newbuilding) GAS READY (D, S, MEc, AEi).

Too good to be true! Από τότε που θυμάμαι τον εαυτό μου να ασχολείται με τα της Ναυτιλίας, έχω στ' αυτιά μου αποτυπωμένη τη φράση «Η Ναυτιλία αποτελεί εθνικό θέμα και είναι υπεράνω κομμάτων και ιδεολογιών». Έτσι θα έπρεπε, χωρίς αμφιβολία, να είναι. Μια πλευρά της εθνικής οικονομίας, που δεν επιβαρύνει επ' ουδενί τον κρατικό προϋπολογισμό, που δανείζεται από το εξωτερικό, που κινείται σε διεθνή επίπεδα και υπό το καθεστώς άκρατου ανταγωνισμού, θα έπρεπε να θεωρείται «χρυσοτόκος όρνιθα» για την οποιαδήποτε- εθνική οικονομία. Δυστυχώς, με ελάχιστες εξαιρέσεις, η Ναυτιλία μπορεί να παραμένει «ατσαλάκωτη» και να ισχύει ακόμη η σχετική Νομοθεσία που της εξασφαλίζει άνεση στις κινήσεις της, αλλά οι ποικίλες πολιτικές μας ηγεσίες, δεν έχουν ακόμη κατορθώσει να ξεπεράσουν τα συμπλέγματά τους απέναντί της. Έτσι, παρακολουθούμε τον τελευταίο καιρό τον αν. υπουργό Ναυτιλίας να πετάει διάφορες «ρουκέτες», αλλά και τον προκάτοχό του, να εκδίδει ανακοινώσεις με τις οποίες τον καλεί να παραιτηθεί επειδή «άλλα έλεγε πριν και άλλα τώρα». Ευχάριστη, νομίζουμε, νότα, ήταν η ανακοίνωση του νέου τομεάρχη Ναυτιλίας της Ν.Δ Νότη Μηταράκη, ο οποίος, απ’ ότι αναφέρει, συναντήθηκε με τον Θ. Δρίτσα και είχαν εποικοδομητικό διάλογο. Αναφέρει ο τομεάρχης: «Με τον Αναπληρωτή Υπουργό Οικονομίας Θ. Δρίτσα, συζητήσαμε κατά τη διάρκεια της συνάντησής μας, όλα τα μείζονα ζητήματα που αφορούν την Ελληνική Ναυτιλία. Την απασχόληση των Ελλήνων ναυτικών, τις ακτοπλοϊκές συνδέσεις των νησιών, τη βελτίωση των λιμενικών υποδομών, την αναβάθμιση της ναυτικής εκπαίδευσης την αναζωογόνηση της κρουαζιέρας κ.ο.κ. Φυσικά, ένα μεγάλο μέρος της συζήτησής μας περιεστράφη γύρω από την έξαρση του μεταναστευτικού

προβλήματος στο Αιγαίο. Για την Νέα Δημοκρατία, παραμένει προτεραιότητα η συνεχής επιτήρηση και προστασία των θαλασσίων συνόρων, η ουσιαστική ενίσχυση των δυνάμεων που επιχειρούν -ελληνικών και ευρωπαϊκών- η αναθεώρηση της ευρωπαϊκής πολιτικής και η αποφυγή δηλώσεων και αποφάσεων που στέλνουν λανθασμένα μηνύματα στα κυκλώματα των δουλεμπόρων. Όσον αφορά το μέλλον της Ελληνικής ναυτιλίας, αποτελεί πεποίθησή μας ότι η χώρα μας μπορεί και πρέπει να επενδύσει στο συγκριτικό και ανταγωνιστικό της πλεονέκτημα, ιδιαίτερα σε αυτή την πρωτοφανή κρίση που βιώνουμε. Η Ελληνική Εμπορική Ναυτιλία έχει απεριόριστες προοπτικές και δυνατότητες και πρέπει να τις εκμεταλλευθούμε. Αρκεί να αποφύγουμε τους αιφνιδιασμούς και τις ιδεολογικές αγκυλώσεις. Αρκεί να διασφαλίσουμε ένα σύγχρονο, ανταγωνιστικό και προπάντων σταθερό επιχειρηματικό περιβάλλον, που θα αποφέρει σημαντικά οφέλη στην ελληνική οικονομία. Αρκεί να τηρήσουμε τις δεσμεύσεις που έχουμε αναλάβει για την πραγματοποίηση σημαντικών λιμενικών επενδύσεων, που αναβαθμίζουν την στρατηγική σημασία της χώρας. Θέλω να ευχαριστήσω τον κ. Δρίτσα για την ενημέρωση και να διαβεβαιώσω από την πλευρά μου ότι ως Τομεάρχης Ναυτιλίας της ΝΔ θα επιδιώξω την ουσιαστική συνεργασία μακριά από άγονες και ανούσιες αντιπαραθέσεις. Αυτό άλλωστε είναι και το ζητούμενο για τη χώρα. Να αφήσουμε πίσω τις κακοδαιμονίες, τις αγκυλώσεις και να κινηθούμε γρήγορα προς τα μπρός». Δηλαδή, για να καταλάβω, τί ήθελε να πει ο ποιητής (Φίλης) όταν μιλούσε για «Εμπόριο οστών»; Μήπως έταξε η Αγία Βαρβάρα και η Ορθόδοξη Ανατολική Εκκλησία κανένα «Πρόγραμμα της Θεσσαλονίκης» και δεν μπορεί να το εφαρμόσει; Μήπως μίλησε η Αγία Βαρβάρα ή η Εκκλησία μας σε τίποτα «Ζάππεια ένα και δυο» και στη συνέχεια «την έκανε γυριστή»; Μήπως έταξε η Αγία Βαρβάρα και η Εκκλησία μας «Λαγούς με πετραχήλια» και εν συνεχεία βρέθηκε με καταθέσεις εκατομμυρίων στο εξωτερικό; Άσε μας, ρε Φίλ(η)ε και εσύ και οι όμοιοί σου «προοδευτικοί», που βγάζετε σπυράκια όταν ακούτε για Εκκλησία και Αγίους. Άσε μας, ρε φίλε, που σε πείραξε το ότι υποδεχθήκαμε το Άγιο Λείψανο με «τιμές αρχηγού κράτους». Ξεχάσαμε τώρα ότι στέκονταν όλοι «κλαρίνο» μπροστά στον Άκη και παιάνιζαν οι μπάντες και χαμήλωναν οι σημαίες, και να χαιρετούρες η ηγεσία και υποκλίσεις οι πολιτικοί, όταν περνούσε καμαρωτός σαν να είχε καταπιεί μπαστούνι ο μετρ της μίζας και της ρεμούλας; Σας πείραξαν οι τιμές και η πίστη σε μια γυναίκα που αγίασε επειδή έδωσε τη ζωή της για εκείνα που τότε δεν τολμούσε κανείς να παραδεχθεί; Άσε μας, ρε Φίλε κι εσύ και οι όμοιοί σου, που σας πειράζει το ότι ο λαός πιστεύει περισσότερο στα απλά, τα θεία, λόγια Εκείνου και όχι στα δικά σας, που δεν έχουν περιεχόμενο, δεν έχουν πίστη και, κυρίως, δεν έχουν ελπίδα! «Εμπόριο οστών» έ; Δεν κοιτάτε τα χάλια σας, που έχετε μεταβάλει τον Ναό της Δημοκρατίας σε «Παιδική χαρά» και σε οίκο εμπορίας ανεκπλήρωτων προσδοκιών και ελπίδων; Σας πειράζει που -κατά Γιάννη Τσαρούχη- «Η Εκκλησία παίζει το ίδιο έργο δυό χιλιάδες και βάλε χρόνια και έχει πάντα κόσμο;». Τι να γίνει, έτσι είναι αυτά. Η Εκκλησία λέει «τα ίδια και τα ίδια», αλλά φαίνεται ότι είναι ωραία, όμορφα και ελκυστικά, φαίνεται ότι τα πιστεύει ο λαός πολύ πιο εύκολα απ' όσο πιστεύει τα δικά σας λόγια και ταξίματα. Πόσα χρόνια τώρα παλεύετε να πείσετε τον κόσμο ότι η θρησκεία είναι «το όπιο του λαού»; Ρίξε μια ματιά στη Ρωσία και θα καταλάβεις! Στο κάτω-κάτω, εγώ δεν είδα καμιά Νεολαία της Εκκλησίας να διοργανώνει «Φεστιβάλ μπάφου»! Γι αυτό σου λέω, μην ανακατεύστε με έννοιες που όχι μόνο δεν καταλαβαίνετε αλλά και που δεν θα καταλάβετε ποτέ. Εμείς σεβόμαστε -όσο μπορούμε- τις απόψεις σας. Εσείς γιατί δεν σέβεστε την συντριπτική πλειοψηφία, που πιστεύει εκεί που δεν μπορείτε να φτάσετε; Αν είναι έτσι, γιατί κάθε βαπόρι έχει στη γέφυρα τον Αη-Νικόλα; Γιατί σε κάθε βαφτίσια βαποριού ψέλνουμε «Κανόνα πίστεως και εικόνα πραότητος»; Τι θέλετε, αλήθεια, να τραγουδάμε; Την Τρίτη Διεθνή; Αφού δεν το κατέχετε το άθλημα, μην ασχολείστε. Με το γάντι...

Γινήκαμε Ευρώπη!!!

Δεν «είμαι» με τις καθαρίστριες του υπουργείου Οικονομικών. Δηλαδή, δεν γνωρίζω τί ακριβώς έχει γίνει με δαύτες, ούτε αν έπαιρναν μεγάλο μισθό, ούτε αν βρίσκονται σε «διαθεσιμότητα» και πληρώνονται. Είμαι, όμως, από εκείνους που πιστεύουν ότι η κυβέρνηση Σαμαρά - Βενιζέλου, έχασε σημαντικό έδαφος εξ αιτίας της συμπεριφοράς της απέναντι σε αυτές τις κυρίες με τα κόκκινα γάντια. Ναι, μπορεί ο ΣΥΡΙΖΑ, ως αντιπολίτευση, να επένδυσε στη στάση των καθαριστριών, ακόμη και να την προκάλεσε και να την «έστησε». Αλλά «μαγκιά» του, που θα έλεγαν και οι νεότεροι. Οι κυρίες με τα γάντια, λοιπόν, επέμειναν, πέτυχαν την προβολή της προσπάθειάς τους και έγιναν δεκτές στο Μέγαρο Μαξίμου, ποζάροντας δίπλα στον πρωθυπουργό. «Επικοινωνιακό τρικ»; Μάλλον. Σωστό; Αναμφισβήτητα. Τί έκανε η κυβέρνηση Σαμαρά-Βενιζέλου; Έβαζε την δύσμοιρη Σοφία Βούλτεψη, να «καταγγέλλει» τις κυρίες με τα χειρόκτια και να μας λέει ότι ήταν υψηλόμισθες και δεν είναι απολυμένες. Κι όμως, αν η κυβέρνηση εκείνη είχε σκύψει με στοργή πάνω από το θέμα τους, θα είχε κατά πολύ αλλάξει το κλίμα. «Ναι, ρε παιδιά, έχουμε υπογράψει το μνημόνιο, δεν είχαμε άλλη επιλογή, αλλά δεν έχουμε χάσει την ανθρωπιά μας και στεκόμαστε δίπλα σε όσους το έχουν ανάγκη και μπορούμε να κάνουμε κάτι». Απλά πράγματα, καθημερινά. Δυστυχώς, η αλαζονεία της εξουσίας και η «μαγκιά» του τέως πρωθυπουργού («Εγώ δεν χάνω από τον Τσίπρα») οδήγησαν στην απομάκρυνση της λαϊκής φιλελεύθερης παράταξης από την μεγάλη μάζα των πολιτών. Διότι, αγαπητοί, η «Δεξιά» είναι λαϊκό κόμμα. Δεν είναι το κόμμα των ολίγων ή των εκλεκτών. Δυστυχώς, αυτό το λησμόνησε η κυβέρνηση Σαμαρά. Δεν έφτανε, δηλαδή, που κυβέρνησε με το ΠΑΣΟΚ, έκανε και το λάθος να ταυτιστεί με την πολιτική του! Καλώς, λοιπόν, δέχθηκε ο Τσίπρας τα «κορίτσια» του στο Μέγαρο Μαξίμου. Κι αν καταλάβατε, έριξε και το «καρφί» προς τον Σαμαρά. «Μου μίλησε για τον δίκαιο αγώνα σας ακόμη και η καγκελάριος Μέρκελ» τους είπε και ...μας ξέρανε! Όσο, λοιπόν και αν κατηγορηθεί ο πρωθυπουργός για λαϊκισμό, πάντα η προσέγγιση της πολιτικής εξουσίας με τους απλούς ανθρώπους, πιστώνεται στα θετικά της. Δεν θέλει ο κόσμος τους πολιτικούς ψυχρούς και ανέκφραστους, δεν τους θέλει σκληρούς εκεί που δεν πρέπει. Όταν, όμως, η πολιτική εξουσία απομονώνεται σε σαλόνια και συνδιαλέγεται μόνο με τους ολίγους και τους ισχυρούς, έρχεται η ώρα που θα χάσει τη δύναμή της και θα υποστεί τις συνέπειες της συμπεριφοράς της. Απλά πράγματα, καθημερινά...

Θυμάμαι, παλιότερα, όταν λέγαμε ότι «Θέλουμε να γίνουμε Ευρώπη», κάποιοι μεγαλύτεροι και εμπειρότεροι, φυσικά, μας έλεγαν «Μακάρι να μη γίνουμε ποτέ». Αργότερα, πριν γίνουμε «Εταίροι» στην ΕΟΚ, όταν είχα αρχίσει να ταξιδεύω συχνά σε όλο τον κόσμο, διαπίστωνα ιδίοις όμμασι ότι η «Ευρώπη» δεν είχε μόνο καλά. Όταν, στη δεκαετία του '80, έβλεπα αστέγους στο Λονδίνο, έλεγα «Παναγιά μου, εμείς τουλάχιστον δεν είμαστε έτσι». Αλλά κι όταν αντιλαμβανόμουν την αδιαφορία των πολιτών για τον διπλανό τους, όταν έβλεπα ανθρώπους πεσμένους στο δρόμο, από υπερβολική δόση ή από το μεθύσι και τους γύρω να τους προσπερνούν χωρίς καν να στρέψουν το κεφάλι, έλεγα πάλι μέσα μου «Βρε, έτσι είναι η πρόοδος;» Δυστυχώς, έτσι είναι! Το διαπιστώσαμε με την περίπτωση της τραγικής μικρούλας. Την έσπαγε στο ξύλο κι εκείνη και τη μάνα της ο διεστραμμένος Βούλγαρος. Το έβλεπαν οι γείτονες και το άκουγαν. Κανείς, όμως, δεν παρενέβη, κανείς δεν μίλησε κανείς δεν πήγε στην Αστυνομία, κανείς δεν τηλεφώνησε στο «Χαμόγελο του Παιδιού»! Θα είχε γλιτώσει η μικρή! Θα είχε αποτραπεί το στυγερό έγκλημα, αν δεν είχαμε γίνει «Ευρώπη»! Δυστυχώς, γινήκαμε Ευρωπαίοι! Γινήκαμε σαν τα μούτρα των Βορείων, που μπορεί να πεθαίνει ο άλλος μπροστά τους αλλά να μη δίνουν σημασία, διότι προέχει ο εαυτός τους και οι δικοί τους και οι λοιποί «ας πάνε να κόψουν το λαιμό τους»! Γινήκαμε και Αμερικάνοι, αφού πλέον δεν παίζει ρόλο το «Τι δουλειά κάμνεις» αλλά το «πόσα ντόλαρς κάνες τη βδομάδα», όπως έλεγε οι θείος από την Αμέρικα. Κάναμε λεφτά, κάναμε περιουσίες, χάθηκαν οι γειτονιές, γεμίσαμε τσιμέντο, άσφαλτοι και καυσαέριο, ξεχάσαμε τα δροσερά καλοκαίρια και έχουμε καύσωνες και air condition, αλλά χάσαμε την ανθρωπιά, τη συντροφικότητα, το ενδιαφέρον για το τί γίνεται δίπλα μας. Τολμούσε, τότε, άνδρας να χτυπήσει γυναίκα δημοσίως; Αφ ενός ήταν κατάπτυστος, ως άνανδρος, αφ ετέρου θα τον είχαν αρπάξει δυο-τρεις περαστικοί και θα τον είχαν βάλει στη θέση του! «Τη χτυπούσε έξω από το σπίτι και την τράβαγε μέσα με το ζόρι», είπε στα μαρκούτσια των τηλερεπόρτερ κάποιος γείτονας. Κι εσύ, ρε, τί έκανες; Καθόσουνα και κοίταζες έναν αλητάμπουρα να χτυπάει μιαν ανυπεράσπιστη γυναίκα και δεν τον άρπαξες να του κόψεις το χέρι από τη ρίζα; Αλλά τί λέω; Έτσι και του το άρπαζες, μπορεί να σε είχαν καταγγείλει οι «Προοδευτικοί» για «Άσκηση βίας ενάντια σε ταλαίπωρο μετανάστη που ρύθμιζε ενδο-οικογενειακές διαφορές με τη σύντροφό του»! Βρε, άι σιχτίρ!

Μπάφοι στο Σύνταγμα

Καθώς ανεβαίναμε την Ερμού, μας πήρε μια βαριά μυρωδιά. «Τί καίγεται, ρε παιδιά;», αναρωτήθηκε ο Μπάμπης. Υποθέσαμε ότι κάπου παραπάνω θα είχαν απλώσει την πραμάτειά τους τίποτα μετανάστες από την περιοχή των Ινδιών και θα καίγανε εκείνα τα βαριά μυρωδικά, που πολλοί πλέον τα μεταχειρίζονται για τη δημιουργία ατμόσφαιρας στο σπίτι. Πιο μπασμένος ο Τάσος, μας έβαλε σε σκέψεις. «Μπα, παιδιά, αυτό που μυρίζει είναι μπάφος βαρύς». Δεν μας έκανε εντύπωση, διότι εσχάτως δεν είναι λίγοι εκείνοι που φουμάρουν το «χορταράκι» τους ακόμη και σε δημόσιους χώρους. Καθώς, όμως, ζυγώσαμε στη Βουλής, μας πήρε σύννεφο η μυρωδιά και ο Τάσος άρχισε να χαμογελάει. «Τί έγινε, ρε παιδιά; Όλα πάνε καλύτερα ή έγινα ξαφνικά αισιόδοξος;», αναρωτήθηκε ο φίλος μας, που είχε, ήδη, απλώσει τα χέρια και ετοιμαζόταν να απογειωθεί. «Βρε, ξέχασα να σας πω ότι στο Σύνταγμα έχει Φεστιβάλ Κάνναβης», ανέκραξε ο Χρόνης ενώ έσκαγε στα γέλια! Έτσι, βρεθήκαμε μπροστά στη συγκέντρωση των Αθηναίων (και αλλοδαπών) που είχαν μαζευτεί στο Σύνταγμα για να υποστηρίξουν τις ...θεραπευτικές ιδιότητες της φούντας! Τόσος κόσμος, υπέρ των θεραπευτικών ιδιοτήτων του μπάφου! Η δικαίωση του Γιώργου Παπανδρέου σε όλο της το μεγαλείο. Από χρόνια είχε πει ο Μπάτμαν με το κολάν ότι έπρεπε όλοι να έχουμε το γλαστράκι μας στο μπαλκόνι για να ξεχνάμε τον πόνο μας. Ιδού, ο λόγος για τον οποίο πήγε ο Γιώργος στο Μαξίμου και μίλησε με τον Τσίπρα! Μιλάμε για θέμα απόλυτης προτεραιότητας! Πρώτα ο Ξηρός, έπειτα ο μπάφος! Θέματα που καίνε την ελληνική κοινωνία και πρέπει να λυθούν αμέσως! Βρεθήκαμε, λοιπόν, στην πλατεία, κάτω από ένα πανό που έγραφε «Η φύση δεν είναι παράνομη». Φυσικά και δεν είναι. Αλλά τότε και η κόκκα είναι νόμιμη, αφού φύεται στους αγρούς της Κολομβίας και η ηρωίνη δεν είναι παράνομη αφού παράγεται από την κάψα της παπαρούνας (μήκων η υπνοφόρος), είπα στην παρέα. «Μην τα μπερδεύεις, το χόρτο δεν έχει σχέση με όλα αυτά», αντέτεινε ένας νεαρός, με μαλλί ράστα α-λα Μπομπ Μάρλεϊ. «Εντάξει, αλλά μπορείς να μου πεις τί στην ευχή θεραπεύει ο μπάφος;», ρώτησε ο Τάσος. «Ξεχνάς, δικέ μου, ξεχνάς», είπε ο νεαρός και τράβηξε μια βαθιά ρουφηξιά. «Άσε που έτσι και νομιμοποιηθεί ο μπάφος θα παίξει και ο Γκιστ με τον Ολυμπιακό!», είπε ο Μήτσος, άρρωστος παναθηναϊκάκιας!». Περάσαμε την πλατεία και ανεβήκαμε προς Χίλτον, αλλά σαν να μου φάνηκε ότι είδα τους τσολιάδες να κάνουν αλλαγή φρουράς με βήματα ...Λαμπάντα!

Συγκλονίστηκε η ελληνική κοινωνία από το τραγικό συμβάν της Μιχαήλ Βόδα. Ο τραγικός θάνατος της τετράχρονης Άννυ, που έπεσε θύμα του παρανοϊκού πατροκτόνου, προκάλεσε «σεισμό» και κάλυψε κάθε άλλο γεγονός. Ωστόσο, εκείνο που πρέπει να τονιστεί, είναι ότι η γειτονιά «ήξερε», η γειτονιά «έβλεπε», η γειτονιά «άκουγε». Και όμως, κανείς από τους γείτονες δεν παρενέβη, δεν ειδοποίησε, δεν ανησύχησε. Σ' αυτό το σημείο, λοιπόν, βρίσκεται το «κλειδί» της όλης υπόθεσης. Στο ότι, δηλαδή, η «πρόοδος» και ο «εκσυγχρονισμός», ο «εξευρωπαϊσμός» και η «ευημερία», έφεραν την απόλυτη εσωστρέφεια και την απομάκρυνση από τον πλησίον. Και «καπάκι» σε όλα αυτά, ήρθε και η μνημονιακή ανέχεια για να συμπληρώσει το κακό. «Πού να τρέχεις τώρα στις Αστυνομίες! Εδώ δεν έχουμε να φάμε! Άσε που αν πας στην Αστυνομία μπορεί και να μπλέξεις! Άσε που ήτανε Βούλγαροι και, μπορεί να σε περιλαμβάνανε τίποτα συμπατριώτες τους και να σε βρίσκανε σε κάνα χαντάκι»! Αυτά μου είπε ένας ηλικιωμένος, στη γειτονιά, την οποία επισκέφθηκα, περίεργος για να δω το περιβάλλον, να καταλάβω τί συμβαίνει. Αυτό που συμβαίνει, αγαπητοί, είναι ότι δεν υπάρχει πλέον Αθήνα! Η πρωτεύουσα έχει παραδοθεί στην εισβολή των ξένων, έχει αλλοιωθεί εντελώς το κοινωνικό διάστρωμα, έχουν φύγει από το κέντρο οι Αθηναίοι και η πόλη έχει μείνει χωρίς προορισμό, χαρακτήρα και μέλλον. Χωρίς αμφιβολία, οι γειτονιές σε λίγο καιρό θα εξελιχθούν σε «Γκέτο», όπως γινόταν παλιότερα σε άλλες μεγαλουπόλεις. Η εγκληματικότητα θα αυξηθεί και θα περάσει στο «κόκκινο», τα ναρκωτικά και η πορνεία θα εξελιχθούν στο κύριο «προϊόν» και η Αστυνομία δεν θα ζυγώνει! «Είχανε φτιάξει κάπως τα πράγματα, αλλά μέσα σε λίγες μέρες, τον περασμένο μήνα, ξαναγυρίσαμε στα παλιά. Τα μαζεύουμε και εμείς και φεύγουμε», μου είπε μια κυρία, που έχει βάλει πωλητήριο στο διαμέρισμά της. «Όσα πιάσουμε. Σε λίγο θα τα χαρίζουμε», μου είπε. Η Αθήνα πεθαίνει, Παναγιώτη Λαφαζάνη κι εσείς της δίνετε την χαριστική βολή με το τζαμί. Κάποια στιγμή, η Ιστορία θα κρίνει. Αλλά τότε θα είναι αργά. Όχι μόνο για εσάς και τους καλοζωισμένους συντρόφους σας. Για όλους...

Κρουαζιέρα: 24.000.000 επιβάτες το 2018!

Επενδύσεις και προσδοκίες του κλάδου Νέα πλοία, επενδύσεις, προοπτικές, ελπίδες και, φυσικά, δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια, ενισχύουν την παγκόσμια βιομηχανία της κρουαζιέρας, που στοχεύει στην ολοένα και μεγαλύτερη προσέλκυση επιβατών, σε μια αγορά, η οποία ενδιαφέρει απολύτως και την Ελλάδα. Κατά το 2013, η παγκόσμια βιομηχανία της κρουαζιέρας, είχε έσοδα 36,27 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια ενώ για το 2014, τα έσοδα υπολογίζεται ότι έφθασαν τα 37 δισεκατομμύρια. Η αύξηση των εσόδων είναι άκρως θεαματική, αν αναλογισθεί κανείς ότι το 2009, όταν άρχισε η παγκόσμια οικονομική ύφεση, τα έσοδα είχαν πέσει στα 25 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια. Η κρουαζιέρα ελπίζει, επίσης, ότι μέχρι το 2018, ο αριθμός των επιβατών θα συνεχίσει να μεγαλώνει και θα υπερβεί τα 24.000.000 ταξιδιωτών ετησίως! Ο μέσος όρος της κατά κεφαλήν δαπάνης των επιβατών κρουαζιέρας, απέφερε στις εταιρείες 1.728 δολάρια, αλλά υψηλά έξοδα κατ' άτομο, δεν άφησαν πολλά περιθώρια, με αποτέλεσμα τα κέρδη ανά επιβάτη,το 2013, να είναι μόλις μόνο 185 δολάρια. Για το 2014, η Βόρειος Αμερική, παρέμεινε η μεγαλύτερη αγορά κρουαζιέρας στον κόσμο, με συνολική δαπάνη 21,21 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια. Όπως ανακοίνωσε η εταιρεία ερευνών αγοράς Mintel, τα έσοδα της κρουαζιέρας μόνο από την αγορά των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών, αναμένεται να υπερβούν μέχρι το 2018 τα 50 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια ετησίως. Η Βόρειος Αμερική, ήταν και το 2013 η κύρια πηγή «αίματος» για την κρουαζιέρα, με 11.820.000 επιβάτες, οι περισσότεροι εκ των οποίων προέρχονταν από τις ΗΠΑ και απετέλεσαν το 58,6% του συνόλου των επιβατών κρουαζιέρας εκείνη τη χρονιά.

Ο Πειραιάς υποδέχθηκε επίσης το νεότευκτο κρουαζιερόπλοιο “Μein Schiff 3” της TUI Cruises, το οποίο θα επισκέπτεται το λιμάνι του, συνεχώς, όλο το καλοκαίρι του 2015, κατά τη διάρκεια των ταξιδιών του. Στον Έλληνα πλοίαρχο, Ιωάννη Αναστασίου, ο ΟΛΠ, ο Δήμος και η Περιφέρεια, επέδωσαν, αναμνηστικά, ενώ ο πρόεδρος του ΟΛΠ, Γ. Ανωμερίτης, αφού καλωσόρισε τον πλοίαρχο, τους αξιωματικούς και το πλήρωμα του πλοίου, χαρακτήρισε το λιμάνι του Πειραιά «βασικό κόμβο της μεσογειακής κρουαζιέρας» και λιμάνι-πρότυπο, αφού παρέχει όλες τις αιτούμενες από τις εταιρίες υψηλής ποιότητας υπηρεσίες και κυρίως περιβαλλοντικές ευκολίες, τροφοδοσίες και συνθήκες ασφαλείας. Την ίδια ώρα, που το μήκους 300μ. “Μein Schiff 3” είχε παραβληθεί, το λιμάνι παρείχε εξυπηρέτηση σε άλλα τέσσερα κρουαζιερόπλοια με 12.000 επιβάτες και πληρώματα, χωρίς κανένα πρόβλημα, μεταξύ των οποίων και το επίσης 300μ. μήκους “Norwegian Jade” της ΝCL.

Με δύο νέα δρομολόγια, με επιβίβαση και αποβίβαση από Πειραιά και Κατάκολο, με τα πολυτελή κρουαζιερόπλοια “MSC Musica” και “MSC Poesia”, ανοίγει τη χρονιά η ιταλική MSC Cruises. Το “Musica” θα πραγματοποιεί κάθε Πέμπτη, από τις 4 Ιουνίου έως και τις 12 Νοεμβρίου, την επταήμερη - οκταήμερη κρουαζιέρα «Αδριατική & Αιγαίο», με επιβίβαση και αποβίβαση από το λιμάνι του Πειραιά. Το πλοίο επισκέπτεται την Κέρκυρα, το γραφικό Κότορ στο Μαυροβούνιο, τη Βενετία, το Μπάρι στην επαρχία της Απουλίας, το Κατάκολο και τη Σαντορίνη, πριν την αποβίβαση στο λιμάνι του Πειραιά. Το πολυτελές “Poesia” θα εκτελεί κάθε Δευτέρα, από την 1η Ιουνίου μέχρι και τις 9 Νοεμβρίου, την 7-8ήμερη κρουαζιέρα «Θησαυροί της Ανατολής», με επιβίβαση και αποβίβαση από το λιμάνι του Κατάκολου. Το πλοίο προσεγγίζει στο λιμάνι της Σμύρνης, την Κωνσταντινούπολη, το Ντουμπρόβνικ, τη Βενετία και το Μπάρι, πριν την αποβίβαση στο λιμάνι του Κατάκολου, (με δωρεάν μεταφορά από Αθήνα).

Εθνική και Κοινοτική πολιτική για την κρουαζιέρα

Δεν φτάνει μόνο η άρση του Cabotage Συνέντευξη στον Δημήτρη Καπράνο

Ο Θεόδωρος Κόντες, πρόεδρος σήμερα της Ένωσης Εφοπλιστών Κρουαζιεροπλοίων και Φορέων Nαυτιλίας, είναι από τα παλαιά, δοκιμασμένα στελέχη στον κλάδο. Στενός (ο στενότερος) συνεργάτης του ιδιοφυούς Γιώργου Φ. Πουλίδη, που δημιούργησε την Festival Cruises, την τελευταία εταιρεία που αντιμετώπισε (μέχρι τελικής πτώσεως) τις αδηφάγες πολυεθνικές, είναι ο πιο κατάλληλος να μας κατατοπίσει για όσα συμβαίνουν σ τον πολύτιμο για την Ελλάδα, κλάδο. Η συνάντησή μας πραγματοποιήθηκε παρά θιν’ αλός και έχει, νομίζουμε, ενδιαφέρον.

Πολλά λέγονται για την κρουαζιέρα και πολλά περιμένει από τον κλάδο η εθνική οικονομία. Πόσο εφικτοί είναι οι στόχοι που έχουμε θέσει; Είναι γεγονός ότι οι στόχοι που έχουν τεθεί από τις τοπικές κοινωνίες και τους άλλους φορείς, για την ανάπτυξη της κρουαζιέρας στη χώρα μας, είναι αρκετά υψηλοί και αυτό, γιατί τα πλε46 SHIPPING MAY 2015

ονεκτήματα που μας χάρισε η φύση και η πολιτιστική κληρονομιά είναι μεγάλα. Η φιλοξενία, επίσης, είναι χαρακτηριστικό που συγκινεί τον επισκέπτη. Η χώρα μας έχει γίνει πραγματικά ο πιο προσιτός και με ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον προορισμός, έτσι ώστε να βρισκόμαστε στην κορυφή της λίστας στην ανατολική Μεσόγειο. Εντάξει, είμαστε ελκυστικός προορισμός, αλλά τί κάνουμε γύρω από αυτό; Βοηθάει το κράτος όσο πρέπει την κρουαζιέρα; Ωφελήθηκε ο χώρος από την άρση του καμποτάζ; Η βοήθεια του κράτους είναι ασφαλώς επιτακτική ανάγκη, μια που ο θαλάσσιος τουρισμός και ιδιαίτερα η κρουαζιέρα είναι ο πλέον προσιτός τρόπος για να προσελκύσουμε μεγάλο αριθμό τουριστών, αλλά είναι και ο καλύτερος τρόπος διαφήμισης της χώρας μας. Το κράτος και οι αρμόδιοι παράγοντες πρέπει να δείξουν έμπρακτα το ενδιαφέρον στην ανάπτυξη του κλάδου. Προς το σκοπό αυτόν απαιτείται:

ΚΡΟΥΑΖΙEΡΑ • Πάταξη της γραφειοκρατίας •Αναβάθμιση τον υποδομών •Συντονισμός των κρατικών αρμοδίων φορέων σε ότι έχει σχέση με τις διαδικασίες ρυθμίσεως θεμάτων Όσον αφορά την άρση του Cabotage, ήταν ένα πολύ θετικό πρώτο βήμα μετά από πολυετή αγώνα, πλην όμως αυτό και μόνο δεν είναι σήμερα αρκετό για την επίτευξη των στόχων. Επιβάλλεται, επίσης, η λήψη μέτρων που έχουν σχέση με: •Τη βελτίωση των αεροδρομίων και τις απ’ ευθείας υπερατλαντικές πτήσεις •Τα οδικά δίκτυα •Τα αναπτυξιακά έργα στους μικρούς προορισμούς •Την σωστή τιμολογιακή πολιτική για να γίνουμε ανταγωνιστικοί •Τη δημιουργία οργάνου για να συντονίσει το έργο αυτό Λείπει κάτι ακόμη για να γίνουν τα ελληνικά λιμάνια κόμβοι επιβίβασης-αποβίβασης; Αναφέρεστε στο τόσο επιθυμητό για όλους μας homeporting, το οποίο αφορά στον τελικό σκοπό επιτυχίας, αφού επιφέρει πολύ περισσότερα οφέλη από ότι αυτά που προέρχονται από τους transit επιβάτες. Το επιπλέον όφελος είναι τουλάχιστον τετραπλάσιο από τους transit επιβάτες με πολλαπλάσιες δαπάνες σε ξενοδοχεία, εστιατόρια, ταξί, καταστήματα, συγκοινωνίες, αεροδρόμια κλπ. Βέβαια, για να πετύχουμε τον σκοπό αυτό, χρειάζονται πολύ περισσότερες υποδομές απ’ αυτές που προαναφέραμε και αρκετά καλός συντονισμός και εξυπηρέτηση πελατών. Οι επιπλέον απαιτούμενες απαιτήσεις συνοψίζονται σε: •Αναγκαίες βελτιώσεις των αεροδρομίων •Καλές ξενοδοχειακές μονάδες με προσιτές τιμές •Ρυθμίσεις σε λιμάνια και terminals για καλή εξυπηρέτηση αποβιβαζομένων και επιβιβαζομένων επιβατών σε λογικό κόστος •Εξυπηρέτηση αναγκών πλοίων που αφορούν προμήθειες καυσίμων και άλλων υλικών καθώς και reception facilities Βεβαίως, όλα αυτά θα πρέπει να προστεθούν στα προαναφερόμενα, όπως συγκοινωνία, οδικά δίκτυα, services γενικά πλοίων και επιβατών και πάνω απ’ όλα θα πρέπει να είναι ανταγωνιστικά για να προσελκύουν τους τουριστικούς οργανισμούς.

Γιατί δεν υπάρχει πια κρουαζιερόπλοιο με ελληνική σημαία; Πώς χάσαμε το «μονοπώλιο» στο Αιγαίο και την Αν. Μεσόγειο; Δυστυχώς, αυτή είναι η πικρή αλήθεια και αναπολούμε την επιτυχία που κυριαρχούσε επί δεκαετίες η ελληνική σημαία σε διεθνή δραστηριότητα. Σε αυτό, την μεγάλη ευθύνη φέρουν οι κυβερνήσεις, αλλά και διάφοροι συνδικαλιστικοί φορείς, που προσπάθησαν και επέβαλαν όρους δυσβάσταχτους για την παραμονή κρουαζιεροπλοίων στο Εθνικό μας νηολόγιο. Έτσι το πλοίο, μαζί με τους γραφειοκρατικούς και άλλους λόγους απομακρύνθηκε από την ελληνική σημαία. Έτσι, φθάσαμε σήμερα στον μαρασμό από πλευράς Εθνικής κρουαζιέρας, και, συνεπώς, στη συρρίκνωση και των ναυπηγοεπισκευαστικών μονάδων, με τελική κατάληξη να έχουμε μόνο ξένα κρουαζιερόπλοια στο Αιγαίο και εν γένει στην ανατολική Μεσόγειο, που απολαμβάνουν, μέσω αυτών, οι επισκέπτες, τις ομορφιές και αξίες του ευλογημένου αυτού τόπου. Για όλα τα παραπάνω και για να συνεχίσουμε να εξυπηρετούμε τον θαλάσσιο τουρισμό, η Ένωσή μας εκπροσωπεί σήμερα όλη τη δραστηριότητα του κλάδου ανεξαρτήτως σημαίας και εθνικότητας πλοίου, προκειμένου να μη χάσουμε τα οφέλη για τις τοπικές κοινωνίες των δεκάδων λιμένων που δραστηριοποιείται η κρουαζιέρα, αλλά και τα οφέλη για την Εθνική οικονομία της χώρας. Πώς μπορεί η Ευρώπη να αντιμετωπίσει τη στροφή των πολυεθνικών της κρουαζιέρας προς την Άπω Ανατολή και την Αυστραλία; Χρειάζεται άσκηση πολιτικής σε Εθνικό και Κοινοτικό επίπεδο, που να θέτει κατ’ αρχάς κίνητρα εξασφάλισης όρων ανταγωνισμού του κοινοτικού πλοίου και παράλληλα προβολή των λιμένων, κυρίως της ανατολικής Μεσογείου, που μας αφορά περισσότερο, με στήριξη σε έργα αναβάθμισης της υποδομής των λιμένων, των αεροδρομίων, αλλά και γενικά έργων στην ευρύτερη περιοχή δραστηριότητος της κρουαζιέρας, έτσι ώστε να εκμεταλλευτούμε με τον καλύτερο τρόπο ό,τι χαρισματικό υπάρχει από πλευράς τοπίων, έργων πολιτισμού αλλά και ηπιότητας κλίματος.

Αυτή είναι η αλήθεια!

Ένα κείμενο που τάραξε το διαδίκτυο του Νίκου Μωραϊτάκη Το γύρο του διαδικτύου έκανε το κείμενο ενός γνωστού Έλληνα επιχειρηματία, του Νίκου Μωραϊτάκη (Workable), ο οποίος δραστηριοποιείται στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό και αναφέρεται στην συγκλονιστική εμπειρία που είχε πρόσφατα. Αξίζει να το διαβάσει κανείς ανεξάρτητα εάν τελικά θα συμφωνήσει ή διαφωνήσει με αυτό. Το άρθρο μοιράστηκε περισσότερες από 1.700 φορές στα social media μέσα σε λίγες ώρες: «Σήμερα μίλησα με δύο εκπροσώπους του υπουργείου οικονομικών της Ολλανδίας. Είναι στη Βοστώνη, μία από τις πολλές εμπορικές αντιπροσωπείες που έχουν σε όλο τον κόσμο. Μας προσέγγισαν γιατί θα ήθελαν να επενδύσουμε στη χώρα τους, να κάνουμε δουλειές εκεί και να ανοίξουμε γραφεία. Έχουν μία υπηρεσία που μας παρέχει δωρεάν tax advisors, λογιστές, recruiters και ανθρώπους που μπορούν να μας βρούνε γραφεία, να κανονίσουν όλη τη γραφειοκρατία (από τη Βοστώνη, χωρίς να επισκεφτούμε τις δημόσιες υπηρεσίες στην Ολλανδία), άδειες, κλπ. Πρότειναν να μας κάνουν δωρεάν οικονομική μελέτη για να δούμε τι φόρους θα πληρώνουμε, ποιο θα είναι το κόστος εργασίας, κλπ. Πρότειναν να μας πετάξουν στο Άμστερνταμ για να γνωρίσουμε τοπικές επιχειρήσεις, να δούμε χώρους γραφείων και να έχουμε δωρεάν συναντήσεις με recruiters αλλά και στελέχη που θα μπορούσαμε να προσλάβουμε. Δεσμεύονται ότι αν ανοίξουμε εκεί εταιρία, οι φόροι, εισφορές, κλπ δεν θα αλλάξουν για εμάς για 10 χρόνια, ώστε να μπορούμε να κάνουμε προγραμματισμό με μεγάλο ορίζοντα. Έχουν προγράμματα που μας δίνουν οικονομική βοήθεια για να στήσουμε τα operations μας εκεί, αναλογικά με το venture capital funding που παίρνουμε (δηλαδή μας δίνουν επιπλέον funding από ό,τι έχουμε, δωρεάν, αρκεί να το χρησιμοποιήσουμε στην Ολλανδία). Είναι διατεθειμένοι να τα κάνουν όλα αυτά ακόμη και για ένα γραφείο 3-4 ατόμων, γιατί βλέπουν μακριά και πιστεύουν ότι αν κάνουμε καλά τη δουλειά μας εκεί και το κράτος τους μας εξυπηρετεί, μέσα σε μια δεκαετία θα πετύχουμε, θα μεγαλώσουμε και θα πληρώσουμε περισσότερους φόρους, θα 48 SHIPPING MAY 2015

προσλάβουμε περισσότερους Ολλανδούς. Οι εκπρόσωποι ήταν δύο αξιοπρεπέστατοι, μορφωμένοι δημόσιοι υπάλληλοι που γνώριζαν πώς δουλεύουν οι τεχνολογικές startup και το venture capital. Είχαν κάνει μεγάλη έρευνα πριν μου μιλήσουν. Ήξεραν την ιστορία της εταιρίας μας, πού έχουμε γραφεία, τι δουλειά κάνουμε, και έτσι είχαν καλό λόγο να πιστεύουν ότι αργά ή γρήγορα θα επεκταθούμε στην Ευρώπη. Μετά τη συνομιλία μας στο skype, μου έστειλαν ένα αντίγραφο του company profile, που έχει φτιαχτεί για το Workable στη βάση δεδομένου του υπουργείου τους και ένα κωδικό, ώστε να μπορώ να το ενημερώσω για να ξέρουν ποιοι είμαστε και να μπορούν να μας προτείνουν δωρεάν υπηρεσίες που μας ταιριάζουν. Έμεινα μαλάκας! Γιατί έρχομαι από μια χώρα που ακόμα συζητάμε αν τα μαγαζιά θα είναι ανοιχτά τις Κυριακές, αν είναι ο.k να καίμε κάθε τόσο το Πανεπιστήμιο, αν πρέπει να αξιολογούνται οι δημόσιοι υπάλληλοι, αν θέλουμε ξένες επενδύσεις, και κυρίως πώς θα καταστρέψουμε και την τελευταία ιδιωτική επιχείρηση με φόρους και εισφορές για να πληρώσουμε πρόωρες συντάξεις και μισθούς σε δημόσιες υπηρεσίες αμφιβόλου αξίας. Έμεινα μαλάκας! Γιατί αυτοί μου δίνουν δωρεάν υποστήριξη ώστε ίσως μια μέρα να επενδύσω στη χώρα τους, ενώ στη δική μου χώρα που έχω ήδη επενδύσει, που δημιουργώ εξαιρετικής ποιότητας θέσεις εργασίας κάθε μέρα, που φέρνω κεφάλαια και εξαγωγές, μου χρωστάει το κράτος 300,000 ΦΠΑ, που θα μπορούσα να τα κάνω θέσεις εργασίας και εξαγωγικό προϊόν, που δεν ξέρω πότε και αν θα τα πάρω, και δεν ξέρω τι άλλο καινούργιο φόρο ή εισφορά θα πρέπει να πληρώσω μεθαύριο, για το οποίο δεν έχω προγραμματίσει, που δεν ξέρω καν αν οι καταθέσεις που έχω στην Τράπεζα για να πληρώσω μισθούς, τον άλλο μήνα θα κουρευτούν. Μία μικρή υπενθύμιση, ότι η ευημερία είναι αποτέλεσμα μεθοδικής και ορθολογικής δουλειάς, αφοσίωσης στην παραγωγικότητα, αναζήτησης συνεργασιών. Γιατί πολλοί ακόμη νομίζουν ότι τα προβλήματά μας θα τα λύσουμε με αγωνιστικές διεκδικήσεις και διαπραγματεύσεις του τύπου «Θα κάνω κατάληψη αν δεν μας πάτε εκδρομή»!

Όταν τα λεφτά της Ναυτιλίας επενδύονται στη στεριά

Η επένδυση του Γιάννη Σταθάκη στη Νεάπολη Δεν είναι πολλοί οι πλοιοκτήτες που επενδύουν και στην ξηρά. Αυτό ήταν και είναι διαχρονικό παράπονο των ελληνικών κυβερνήσεων. Ο Γιάννης Γ. Σταθάκης γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε σε οικογένεια πλοιοκτητών. Ο πατέρας του, Γιώργος, είχε δημιουργήσει, από το μηδέν, έναν σημαντικό στόλο από αλιευτικά και πλοία-ψυγεία. Τα ψάρια «Κουτουριάρη» ήταν πασίγνωστα και είχαν κερδίσει μεγάλο μέρος της ελληνικής και της διεθνούς αγοράς από τις αρχές του '60. Το όνομα «Κουτουριάρης» οφείλεται στον παππού του, Γιάννη Σταθάκη, ιστορικό πρόσωπο της ελληνικής αλιείας, που λόγω των τολμηρών αποφάσεων και ενεργειών του απεκλήθη «Κουτουριάρης», ο άνθρωπος που κάνει «κουτουράδες», ήτοι παράτολμες πράξεις. Μια από αυτές ήταν η άρνησή του να παρασημοφορηθεί από τη Βασίλισσα Ελισσάβετ για τις υπηρεσίες που προσέφερε, μεταφέροντας του Άγγλους στρατιώτες από τη γεννέτειρά του Νεάπολη Βοιών Λακωνίας στην Κρήτη, απ’ όπου φυγαδεύονταν στην Μέση Ανατολή. «Εγώ δεν παίρνω παράσημο από τη Βασίλισσα της χώρας που κρεμάει τους Έλληνες στην Κύπρο», είχε πει τότε. Ο γιος του, Γιώργος, με τον αδελφό και τους συνεργάτες τους, οδήγησαν την ελληνική αλιεία σε ζηλευτή θέση παγκοσμίως, αλλά το 199, όταν οι χώρες της Αφρικής άρχισαν να συνεργάζονται με τον κινεζικό αλιευτικό στόλο και η Ευρωπαϊκή Ενωση αποφάσισε να χορηγήσει αποζημιώσεις προκειμένου να αποσυρθούν τα αλιευτικά, θεώρησε ότι ήταν μια καλή ευκαιρία. Έτσι, απέσυρε τα πλοία του και εισέπραξε τις αρκετά σοβαρές αποζημιώσεις. Ο Γιάννης Σταθάκης, από τα 16 του μπήκε δυνατά στην οικογενειακή επιχείρηση. Οπως λέει ο ίδιος, δεν γνώρισε διακοπές Χριστούγεννα, Πάσχα και καλοκαίρι, αφού εκμεταλλευόταν αυτόν το χρόνο για να μαθαίνει τα μυστικά της Ναυτιλίας. Έτσι, όταν ολοκλήρωσε τις σπουδές του στην Αγγλία (ΜΒΑ στα ναυτιλιακά και πτυχίο στο London School of Foreign Trade), επέστρεψε στην Ελλάδα, παντρεύτηκε με την Ίριδα, με την οποία απέκτησαν ένα γιο, τον Βασίλη, και αγόρασε ένα πλοίο μεταφοράς κοντέινερ. Παράλληλα, όντας ανήσυχος εκ φύσεως και πιστεύοντας ότι τα λεφτά που βγαίνουν στη θάλασσα είναι καλύτερα να επενδύονται στην πατρίδα, άρχισε να δημιουργεί ένα συγκρότημα με πολυτελείς κατοικίες στο «χωριό του», στη Νεάπολη Βοιών. Εκεί, πλάι στη θάλασσα, σε ιδιόκτητη περιοχή, κατασκευάστηκαν 19 πολυτελείς κατοικίες (μαιζονέτες), σε ένα χώρο, οποίος διαμορφώθηκε «πέτρα-πέτρα» και «ελιά-ελιά», επενδύθηκαν οι αποζημιώσεις των αλιευτικών. «Ήταν διπλή χαρά για μένα, γιατί όχι μόνο επένδυα στην Ελλάδα αλλά και στην ιδιαίτερη πατρίδα μου. Σε έναν τόπο, από τον οποίο μπορεί κανείς να απολαύσει τις καλύτερες παραλίες της Ελλάδας με

πρώτη την Ελαφόνησο, να βρεθεί σε ελάχιστο χρόνο στη Μονεμβασιά, στη Σπάρτη, στα Κύθηρα,το νησί της Αφροδίτης, που απέχει μία ώρα με το πλοίο, στον Κάβο-Μαλιά, στο σπήλαιο της Καστανιάς, αλλά και στην αρχαιότερη βυθισμένη πόλη του κόσμου, στο Παυλοπέτρι», λέει ο πλοιοκτήτης-επενδυτής. Η κρίση που άρχισε το 2008 και που είχε επιπτώσεις στην αγορά ακινήτων, οδήγησαν τον Γιάννη Σταθάκη, να αναθεωρήσει την αρχική του θέση για πώληση των πολυτελών κατοικιών και έτσι άρχισε προσπάθειες για να εξασφαλίσει τις απαιτούμενες προδιαγραφές και άδειες από τον ΕΟΤ, ώστε να μπορέσει να τις ενοικιάζει. Σήμερα, αρκετές οικογένειες, κυρίως από το εξωτερικό, απολαμβάνουν το υπέροχο τοπίο, την ατέλειωτη αμμουδιά, και τις περιηγήσεις στα γύρω αξιοθέατα. Διαβλέποντας ότι η εποχή που η ελληνική ατλαντική αλιεία, η οποία σάρωνε τα δυτικά παράλια της Αφρικής και του Ατλαντικού, με την ελληνική σημαία να κυματίζει στην πρύμνη των πλοίων της, έφτανε στο τέλος της, ο Γιώργος Σταθάκης, πίστευε ότι είχε έρθει ο καιρός να δώσει ζωή στην περιοχή που γέννησε τους παππούδες και τους γονείς του και για την οποία και ο ίδιος αισθανόταν ιδιαίτερη αγάπη και σεβασμό. «Η εποχή, που «οι ανεμοτρατάρηδες» εξελίχθηκαν σε καπεταναίους και εν συνεχεία σε πλοιοκτήτες, μπροστά στους οποίους υπουργοί και τραπεζίτες σηκώνονταν όρθιοι για να υποδηλώσουν το σεβασμό και τον θαυμασμό τους, είχε περάσει ανεπιστρεπτί. Έτσι, υλοποιώντας την επιθυμία των γονιών μου να προσφέρουν κάτι στον τόπο τους, ο οποίος μας έδωσε τόσα πολλά, σκέφτηκα ότι, εκτός από τη Ναυτιλία που είναι η κύρια απασχόλησή μου και η οποία είχε υποστεί επίσης και υφίσταται ακόμη τις συνέπειες της κρίσης, υπήρχε και η επένδυση σε ακίνητα. Έτσι γεννήθηκε η επένδυση στις κατοικίες, για την οποία είμαι περήφανος», λέει ο Γιάννης Γ. Σταθάκης.

ΑΠΟΨΗ

Τί θα ρωτούσα τον Αλέξη Τσίπρα

Αν βρισκόμουν στο στούντιο, κατά την πρόσφατη συνέντευξη του πρωθυπουργού στον δημοσιογράφο Ν. Χατζηνικολάου, θα του υπέβαλα την ακόλουθη ερώτηση: - Κύριε Πρωθυπουργέ, ας υποθέσουμε ότι παραμένετε για τρείς συνεχείς τετραετίες πρωθυπουργός. Μπορείτε να μου περιγράψετε τι θα χαρακτηρίζει την οικονομία μας στο τέλος κάθε τετραετίας; Ποιοί κλάδοι θα αναπτυχθούν; Ποιά θα είναι η δομή της οικονομίας στο τέλος της διακυβέρνησής σας; Για να τον βοηθήσω, θα του έλεγα ότι υπάρχουν παραδείγματα χωρών που επεξεργάστηκαν μακρόπνοα σχέδια ανάπτυξης και πέτυχαν να αναπτύξουν και να μεταμορφώσουν τις χώρες τους. Για παράδειγμα, η Νότιος Κορέα σχεδίασε και υλοποίησε ένα μακροχρόνιο σχέδιο ανάπτυξης και κάθε δεκαετία είχε τα δικά της χαρακτηριστικά. Δηλαδή, ήταν εκ των προτέρων γνωστό ποιοί κλάδοι της θα αναπτυχθούν και με ποιό τρόπο θα υποστηριχθούν από το τραπεζικό, εργασιακό και εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα. Όλοι γνωρίζουμε σήμερα, ότι η Νότιος Κορέα διαθέτει την πιο εύρωστη οικονομία του κόσμου. Ο σχεδιασμός αυτός βασίσθηκε σε γνώσεις και δεδομένα που του παρείχαν σπουδαία και σημαντικά think tanks (ιδρύματα – φορείς-δεξαμενές σκέψεων), των οποίων τις απόψεις και προτάσεις υιοθέτησαν όλες οι κυβερνήσεις, τις προσάρμοσαν σε ένα πρόγραμμα εκσυγχρονισμού και ανάπτυξης και όλοι εργάζονταν για την υλοποίηση και την επιτυχία του, χωρίς κάθε ένας υπουργός να χρειάζεται να αυτοσχεδιάζει και να αναιρεί ακόμα και προγράμματα υπουργών της ίδιας της κυβέρνησής του, με αποτέλεσμα να δαπανώνται πολύτιμοι πόροι και χρόνος. Είναι βέβαιο, ότι η χώρα μας, λόγω του ότι «όλοι γνωρίζουν τα πάντα», (αδιάψευστος μάρτυρας τα δελτία ειδήσεων και τα στρογγυλά τραπέζια, όπου όλοι είναι ειδικοί για όλα και καθένας από μόνος του είναι και ένα think tank), δεν έχει θεσμοθετήσει σοβαρούς και αξιόπιστους φορείς που θα βοηθήσουν, ενώ και το πολιτικό σύστημα δεν φαίνεται διατεθειμένο να δουλέψει με έναν τέτοιο τρόπο. Δυστυχώς, μας αρέσει ο αυτοσχεδιασμός. Θα έδινα ακόμη στον πρωθυπουργό ορισμένα στοιχεία, για το τί έκανε μια γειτονική μας χώρα, σε ποιο τομέα έδωσε βαρύτητα στο σχέδιο ανασυγκρότησής της, ώστε σήμερα να απολαμβάνει οικονομική ανάπτυξη, η οποία διασφαλίζει και την φυσική επιβίωσή της. Πρόκειται για το Ισραήλ. Η βασική αλλαγή την οποία έχει κάνει η χώρα αυτή, είναι η μετακίνησή της από τη γεωργία και τα * Οικονομολόγος, Σύμβουλος Επιχειρήσεων 50 SHIPPING MAY 2015

εργαλεία στην τεχνολογική καινοτομία. Είναι πραγματικά αξιοπερίεργο το γεγονός, ότι μια τόσο μικρή οικονομία κατάφερε να βρεθεί στην παγκόσμια πρωτοπορία της τεχνολογίας. Από το 1980 μέχρι το 2000, ο αριθμός των διπλωμάτων ευρεσιτεχνίας που κατοχυρώθηκαν στο Ισραήλ, ανερχόταν σε 7.652 έναντι 367 σε όλες τις αραβικές χώρες μαζί. Μόνο το 2008, οι Ισραηλινοί εφευρέτες κατέθεσαν αιτήσεις για 9.591 νέα διπλώματα ευρεσιτεχνίας. Έτσι, για την ιστορία, στο Ιράν την ίδια περίοδο κατετέθησαν 50 και σε όλες τις μουσουλμανικές χώρες της υφηλίου κατατέθηκαν 565 αιτήσεις. Το Ισραήλ διαθέτει περισσότερους επιστήμονες και μηχανολόγους και παράγει περισσότερες επιστημονικές μελέτες κατά κεφαλήν από οποιαδήποτε άλλη χώρα. Η δαπάνη που διαθέτει για μη στρατιωτική έρευνα, ως ποσοστό του ΑΕΠ, είναι η υψηλότερη στον κόσμο. Συνδυάζοντας την ύπαρξη του Ινστιτούτου Βάισμαν, ενός σπουδαίου φορέα ερευνών, το οποίο ιδρύθηκε το 1933, και ενός αποτελεσματικού οργανωτικού πλαισίου μετατροπής της έρευνας σε έργο, το Ισραήλ έχει σήμερα εταιρίες υψηλής τεχνολογίας εισηγμένες στην Wall Street ( NASDAQ) και βρίσκεται στην πρωτοπορία της παγκόσμιας τεχνολογίας. Η στροφή αυτή στην τεχνολογία, πέραν της οικονομικής βιωσιμότητας, διασφάλισε και την εθνική ακεραιότητα του Ισραήλ. Σήμερα, το Ιράν ακολουθεί το παράδειγμα του Ισραήλ. Αν και Ισλαμική χώρα, φιλοξενεί δύο ετήσια επιστημονικά φεστιβάλ. Το «Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Στοιχειώδους Επιστήμης Καραζμί» και το ετήσιο «Φεστιβάλ Ιατρικής έρευνας Ραζί», που έχουν στόχο να ενθαρρύνουν την υψηλού επιπέδου έρευνα στο επίπεδο τόσο της θεωρητικής όσο και της εφαρμοσμένης επιστήμης. Το Ιράν έχει, ήδη, επενδύσει στην αστρονομία και αστροφυσική και σε αντίθεση με ότι φαίνεται, το 70% των φοιτητών στα τμήματα φυσικής και μηχανολογίας είναι γυναίκες, πράγμα που για το καθεστώς, αποτελεί από μόνο του μια μεγάλη και αναγκαία για την πρόοδο της χώρας ανατροπή. Θα έλεγα ακόμη στον κ. Τσίπρα, ότι είναι προφανές, πως εάν θέλουμε οικονομική ανάπτυξη και εθνική ακεραιότητα, θα πρέπει να επεξεργαστούμε ένα μακροπρόθεσμο πρόγραμμα, στο οποίο ο βασικός άξονας θα είναι η τεχνολογική καινοτομία. Οι παραδοσιακοί τομείς της οικονομίας μας έχουν πλέον αρχίσει να έχουν μοιραία μια φθίνουσα απόδοση. Ο τουρισμός και η αγροτική οικονομία, όσο και καλά να πάνε, δεν πρόκειται να μας πάνε πολύ μακριά. Θα βελτιώνουν ενδεχομένως τη ζωή όσων ασχολούνται με το συγκεκριμένο τομέα, αλλά δεν πρόκειται να απογειώσουν την οικονομία μας. Θα του έλεγα, ακόμη, ότι στη χώρα μας, κάθε χρόνο το τμήμα Φυσικής του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου, οργανώνει Συνέδριο Νανοτεχνολογίας, το οποίο θεωρείται από τα σημαντικότερα του κόσμου! συνέχεια στη σελίδα 56

Η Λογοτεχνία πάνω στο κύμα… του Γιώργου Αρκουλή Παλιά -πολύ παλιά- είχα ακούσει πως μπαίνοντας στο ‘πλοίο της γραμμής’ για το νησί του Αιγαίου ή την Κρήτη, αν ο βατσιμάνης στην μπουκαπόρτα σε θεωρούσε χωριατόπαιδο των ορεινών, σε ρώταγε «κολύμπι ξέρεις παιδί μου;». Κατά τεκμήριο η απάντηση ήταν θετική, οπότε ανέβαινες την σκάλα με προορισμό τα σαλόνια του πλοίου. Αν ο καιρός ήταν καλός –και η θάλασσα μπουνάτσα- δεν υπήρχαν προβλήματα. Αν όμως το αεράκι δυνάμωνε εν πλω, τότε για τους πρωτάρηδες τα πράγματα εξελίσσονταν σκούρα και τα μεγάλα κύματα γίνονταν δεκτά με ξόρκια ή ενδόμυχες προσευχές προκειμένου να καλμάρει ο καιρός και το πλοίο να μπει ήρεμα στο λιμάνι. Πάνω στην μάχη του ανθρώπου με την θάλασσα, έχουν στηθεί αμέτρητες ιστορίες από λογοτέχνες αλλά και παραμυθάδες, με τις οποίες μεγάλωσαν γενιές και γενιές. Ο υπογράφων, θυμάται -μαθητής του Δημοτικού σχολείου- μια φορά την εβδομάδα τον φορτωμένο με την πραμάτεια του εφημεριδοπώλη (επάγγελμα που πια δεν υπάρχει) προκειμένου να πάρει το τεύχος της σειράς κόμικς ‘Κλασσικά εικονογραφημένα’. Μιλάμε για τις δεκαετίες από τα μέσα του 1950 και μετά. Και όταν το τεύχος είχε ως θέμα κάποια ναυτική ιστορία, ακολουθούσε ανάγνωση με πάθος, και η περιπλάνηση πάνω στις θάλασσες ή τους βυθούς μάγευε την ψυχή και σφράγιζε για πάντα την αγάπη για την ναυτική λογοτεχνία. Πρώτος απ’ όλους, ‘σαλπάρισε’ γενναία και δυναμικά ο Ιούλιος Βερν με έργα που ακόμη και σήμερα συγκινούν μικρούς και μεγάλους. Τα περισσότερα έργα του Γάλλου παραμυθά υποχρέωσαν τον αναγνώστη ν’ αγαπήσει την θάλασσα, καθώς η γραφή είχε τη δύναμη να μπει στις καρδιές και να μείνει εκεί για πάντα: «Το αιγαίο στις φλόγες», «Οι πειρατές του Αιγαίου», «Ο δεκαπενταετής πλοίαρχος», «Τα τέκνα του πλοιάρχου Γκράντ», «Μυστηριώδης νήσος»… Οι μεγάλες σελίδες του Βερν δημιουργήθηκαν στα περίφημα έργα του «Ο γύρος του Κόσμου σε 80 ημέρες» και «Είκοσι χιλιάδες λεύγες υπό την θάλασσα». Στο πρώτο από αυτά τα μνημειώδη μυθιστορήματα (που ακόμη και σήμερα 150 χρόνια και πλέον μετά την εμφάνισή τους γοητεύουν τους εκδότες…), να θυμίσουμε πως από τις ‘80 ημέρες’ του ταξιδιού, οι 63 διαδραματίζονται πάνω στην θάλασσα. Σουέζ-Βομβάη 13 ημέρες, Καλκούτα-Χονγκ Κονγκ 13, Χονγκ Κονγκ-Γιοκοχάμα 6, Γιοκοχάμα-Σαν Φρανσίσκο 22 και Νέα Υόρκη-Λονδίνο 9. Στο έργο «Είκοσι χιλιάδες λεύγες υπό την θάλασσα», που είναι ένα από τα πρώτα επιτυχημένα έργα επιστημονικής φαντασίας, ο Βερν δίνει την ευκαιρία στον υπέροχο πλοίαρχο Νέμο να προσφέρει στον αναγνώστη μαγικές περιγραφές των θαλασσινών βυθών, μέσα από το φιλιστρίνι του ‘Ναυτίλου’. Παράλληλα, ο σπουδαίος λογοτέχνης προφητεύει την εφεύρεση του υποβρυχίου. Δεν είναι λίγο! Ο Τσαρλς Ντίκενς με τον πολυδιαβασμένο ‘Δαβίδ Κόπερφηλντ’ μας πρόσφερε ωραίες εικόνες θαλασσινού ταξιδιού, ενώ ο Χέρμαν Μέλβιλ, με τον διάσημο (και πολυδιαβασμένο) Μόμπι Ντικ, αποδεικνύει την απίστευτη δύναμη της θάλασσας αλλά και των

θηλαστικών που φιλοξενεί στα σκοτεινά βάθη της. Ομως, η θάλασσα στην λογοτεχνία δεν ήταν πάντα η μαγική πρωταγωνίστρια, αλλά και σκληρή τιμωρός. Στο έργο του Εδουάρδου Εβερετ Χέϊλ «Ο άνθρωπος χωρίς πατρίδα», νεαρός αξιωματικός του αμερικανικού στρατού, καταδικάζεται να ζήσει ολόκληρη την ζωή του πάνω σε πλοία, ως τον θάνατό του. Κι’ αυτό επειδή το δικαστήριο τον δίκασε να μην ξαναδεί ή να ακούσει για την πατρίδα του. Ποιο ήταν το σφάλμα του; Ότι σε στιγμή εκνευρισμού είχε φωνάξει απερίσκεπτα «Δεν θέλω να ξανακούσω για τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες». Γι’ αυτόν τον άτυχο αξιωματικό, η θάλασσα μετατράπηκε σε ατέλειωτη φυλακή, χωρίς οίκτο, στερώντας του την ελευθερία και μαζί την ευτυχία του. Σκληρές σελίδες άφησε και ο Αμερικανός Τζακ Λόντον, σπουδαίος μυθιστοριογράφος του καιρού του. Ο Λύκος Λάρσεν, ο ήρωας του έργου «Ο θαλασσόλυκος», ήταν ο σκληρός και άδικος πλοίαρχος, που μόνο μια τρικυμία θα μπορέσει να του τσακίσει στα βράχια το πλοίο του και να τον αφήσει άψυχο πάνω στο βρώμικο κατάστρωμα του πλοίου ‘Στοιχειό»! Το πόσο δυνατή είναι η σχέση ανθρώπου και θάλασσας, αποδεικνύει επίσης η τραγική ιστορία ενός ναυαγίου που προέκυψε στις 15 Απριλίου του 1912. Το υπερωκεάνιο ‘Τιτανικός’, είχε χαρακτηριστεί ‘θαύμα’ της εποχής του, πλωτό παλάτι που δεν θα μπορούσε να κάμψει ο καιρός όσο σκληρός κι αν ήταν. Η αλαζονεία των Άγγλων κατασκευαστών του διάσημου καραβιού τιμωρήθηκε στα παγωμένα νερά του Βόρειου Ατλαντικού, στέλνοντας στον βυθό κάπου χίλιες πεντακόσιες ψυχές. Παρότι πέρασε από τότε ένας αιώνας και πλέον, το στόρι αυτού του ναυαγίου εξακολουθεί να συγκινεί συγγραφείς, κινηματογραφιστές αλλά και εταιρίες που στέλνουν βαθυσκάφη στο έρεβος τεσσάρων χιλιάδων μέτρων κάτω από την επιφάνεια. Ωστόσο, υπάρχουν κι’ άλλες αληθινές ιστορίες εκτός του ‘Τιτανικού’ που υπήρξαν και ενέπνευσαν την ναυτική λογοτεχνία. Η ‘Ανταρσία του Μπάουντι’, ήταν υπόθεση που αντιμετώπισε (και) την εκδίκηση της θάλασσας, ενώ –τι τραγική σύμπτωση!- το πλοίο, πιστό αντίγραφο, που κατασκευάστηκε από τον παραγωγό για την κινηματογραφική μεταφορά του ‘Μπάουντι’ (με πρωταγωνιστή τον Μάρλον Μπράντο) το 1962, ήταν γραφτό να καταλήξει στον βυθό της θάλασσας κάπου στην Βόρεια Καρολίνα, θύμα ενός φοβερού τυφώνα ονόματι Σάντι, που σάρωσε την περιοχή, αρκετά χρόνια μετά τα γυρίσματα, σε μια αποστολή για κάποιο διαφημιστικό. συνέχεια στη σελίδα 57 MAY 2015 SHIPPING 51

Λέσχη Αποφοίτων Ναυτικής Σχολής Ύδρας

Επίτιμος Πρόεδρος ο Σπύρος Ράνης του Δημήτρη Καπράνου Αν μου ζητούσε κάποιος να σκιαγραφήσω το πορτρέτο του Έλληνα πλοιοκτήτη, το πρώτο όνομα που θα του έδινα θα ήταν Σπύρος Ράνης. Είναι ο άνθρωπος που σπούδασε στη Σχολή Πλοιάρχων της Ύδρας, σταδιοδρόμησε στο Λιμενικό Σώμα και κάποια στιγμή, άρπαξε τη θάλασσα απ' τα μαλλιά.

κάθε τόσο του λέω ότι η Ένωση Ελλήνων Εφοπλιστών δεν θέλει τους Έλληνες στα βαπόρια, επιμένει και αγωνίζεται για να «ανοίξει» η Ιδιωτική Εκπαίδευση. Ο Σπύρος Ράνης, λατρεύει τη θάλασσα, αλλά είναι ικανότατος ορειβάτης! Δεν υπάρχει βουνό που να μην έχει πατήσει στην κορυφή! Σε μια τέτοια εκδρομή, ορειβατική, τον συνάντησα πρώτη φορά, αρχές του '70. Είχα τότε κι εγώ την «τρέλα» και παίρναμε, με την τότε μνηστή και σήμερα σύζυγο, τα βουνά, αλλά μας πέρασε γρήγορα. Του Σπύρου, όμως, παρά λίγο να του στοιχίσει τη ζωή. Παραθέτω αυτούσιο το ρεπορτάζ της Μαρίας Μεϊμάρη, στις 23 Ιανουαρίου του 2008, με τίτλο: Τρία σκυλιά κράτησαν ζωντανό τον εφοπλιστή. «Τετράποδοι ήρωες» , που θα ήταν άξιοι υποψήφιοι για έπαινο από την... Ακαδημία Αθηνών (!), έμειναν πιστοί στο αφεντικό τους στα δύσκολα και απέδειξαν εμπράκτως πως είναι οι καλύτεροι φίλοι του ανθρώπου! Επί τρία ολόκληρα μερόνυχτα δεν έφυγαν στιγμή από το πλευρό του Σπύρου Ράνη, ο οποίος γλίστρησε και έπεσε σε χαράδρα μεγάλου βάθους στην Πάρνηθα, κοντά στη Μονή του Αγίου Κυπριανού. Τα τρία σκυλιά του τον κράτησαν ζεστό από το κρύο και, ως γνήσια... λαγωνικά, Ο Πρόεδρος της λέσχης Αθ. Ζεύκης και ο Σπύρος Ράνης με την περγαμηνή «οδήγησαν» έναν καλόγερο, που άκουσε τις εκκλήσεις του εφοπλιστή και τα γαβγίσματα των σκυλιών, και εν Σήμερα, ο Σπύρος Ράνης, είναι η ψυχή της ναυτιλια- συνεχεία την ομάδα διάσωσης στο σημείο όπου βρικής "Ranger Marine" και της τουριστικής "Occidental σκόταν καθηλωμένος από πολλαπλά κατάγματα.

Αντιθέτως, έφτιαξε από την αρχή, Ράνης θα ήταν νεκρός από τις πρώτες ώρες, καθώς τη άλλο, πρότυπο, ξενοδοχείο, πάλι στην Κω, το οποίο νύχτα η θερμοκρασία στη χαράδρα έπεφτε στους μείλειτουργεί εδώ και πέντε χρόνια με πληρότητα ον 8 βαθμούς Κελσίου. Για να τον προστατεύσουν, τα 100%! σκυλιά «κούρνιαζαν» δίπλα του και τον κρατούσαν • Πιστεύει ότι η Ελληνική Ναυτιλία πρέπει να στελε- ζεστό, διατηρώντας τη θερμοκρασία του σε φυσιολοχώνεται με Έλληνες αξιωματικούς και, παρά το ότι γικά επίπεδα.

ΠΡΟΣΩΠΑ Ο Σπύρος Ράνης, που είναι ιδιοκτήτης της ναυτιλιακής εταιρείας Ranger Marine στον Πειραιά, χειμερινός κολυμβητής και έμπειρος ορειβάτης, ξεκίνησε με το τζιπ του τα ξημερώματα της Κυριακής να πάει στη Χασιά. Εκεί άφησε το αυτοκίνητο και μαζί με τα σκυλιά του ανέβηκε στην Πάρνηθα. Το μεσημέρι της Δευτέρας, οπότε και δεν εμφανίστηκε σε προγραμματισμένη συνάντηση στην εταιρεία, οι συγγενείς του τον αναζήτησαν και άρχισαν τις έρευνες για τον εντοπισμό του. Εξαιτίας του δύσβατου της περιοχής, εκτός από πεζοπόρο τμήμα της ΕΜΑΚ και εθελοντές από τον Ορειβατικό Σύλλογο Πειραιά -στον οποίο μέλος ήταν ο Ράνης, επιχείρησαν τέσσερα οχήματα και τρία ελικόπτερα, που έκαναν την Πάρνηθα «φύλλο και φτερό». Ο επιχειρηματίας τελικά εντοπίστηκε ξημερώματα Τετάρτης, από έναν μοναχό που άκουσε τις φωνές του και τα γαβγίσματα των σκυλιών και έφτασε με ένα φακό στο σημείο, όπου περίμενε αβοήθητος. Κάλεσε την αστυνομία και μετά από λίγο τον παρέλαβε η ομάδα διάσωσης, που τον μετέφερε στη Μονή του Αγίου Κυπριανού για τις πρώτες βοήθειες. Στη συνέχεια μεταφέρθηκε με ασθενοφόρο στον Ερυθρό Σταυρό, όπου νοσηλεύεται μέχρι σήμερα με κατάγματα στα πλευρά και τον αστράγαλο. Μέσα από το νοσοκομείο ο επιχειρηματίας, που δεν πίστευε στην καλή του τύχη, ευχαρίστησε τους μοναχούς και δεσμεύτηκε ότι «θα πράξει τα δέοντα» . Οφείλει, όμως, μεγάλη ευγνωμοσύνη και στα τρία πολυαγαπημένα του σκυλιά, που βοήθησαν να βρεθεί σώος μετά από τόσες μέρες». Την έζησα την περιπέτεια εκείνη από κοντά. Πήγαινα καθημερινά στο γραφείο και έλεγα σε όλους (όπως και η νεαρή γραμματέας, η Μαρία) ότι «Ο Σπύρος είναι γερό κόκκαλο και ξερό κεφάλι και θα βρεθεί σώος». Το πίστευα, ακόμη κι όταν από την ΕΜΑΚ μου έλεγαν ότι «δύσκολα θα τον βρούμε ζωντανό». Τελικώς βρέθηκε. Ήταν σώος και (έγινε) ευλαβής! Ο Σπύρος Ράνης, το 1975, μάζεψε τους συναποφοίτους του από τη «Σχολή Ναυτιλίας 'Υδρας» ( την αρχαιότερη Σχολή εν λειτουργία στον κόσμο) και δημιούργησαν τη Λέσχη τους, στην οδό Ζαΐμη 19, στον Πειραιά. Αρχικά νοίκιασαν το οίκημα, αλλά το 1978, με πρόεδρο τον Σπύρο, έβαλαν λεφτά «ρεφενέ» και το κτίριο αγοράστηκε. Πριν λίγες μέρες, ο Σπύρος με κάλεσε «να φάμε το μεσημέρι της Πέμπτης στη Λέσχη». Δέχθηκα και βρέθηκα σε ένα ζεστό περιβάλλον, με ανθρώπους της θάλασσας και του αλατιού. Με Έλληνες θαλασσινούς, δηλαδή. Εκεί, λοιπόν, απολαμβάνοντας το γεύμα που είχαν ετοιμάσει οι καπετάνισσες για τους καπεταναίους, ο πρόεδρος της Λέσχης Αθανάσιος Ζεύκης, επέδωσε στον Σπύρο Ράνη τα «διάσημα» του Επιτίμου Προέδρου. Δεν μου είχε πει κάτι σχετικό ο Σπύρος και, ομολογώ, αιφνιδιάστηκα. Δεν είχα φροντίσει να πάρω μια φωτογραφική μηχανή μαζί μου και το παλιό κινητό μου δεν έχει «κάμερα». Είχαν , όμως, οι καπεταναίοι και

έτσι ευρέθη και «Φωτορεπορτάζ». Ο Σπύρος διετέλεσε πρόεδρος της Λέσχης για δώδεκα χρόνια! Σήμερα, διευθύνει, όπως πάντα, τη Ranger, με τους παλιούς του συνεργάτες-φίλους, ασχολείται με το ξενοδοχείο-στολίδι που έφτιαξε στην αγαπημένη του Κω και πιστεύει ότι κάποια στιγμή η Ελλάδα θα επιστρέψει στους Έλληνες ναυτικούς, πράγμα για το οποίο εγώ αμφιβάλλω και έχω λόγους σοβαρούς γι αυτό. Ξέρω ότι δεν θα του αρέσει αυτή η «δημοσιότητα», αλλά νομίζω ότι δεν θα τον ρωτούσα, ούτως ή άλλως! * Για την μοναδική Λέσχη Αποφοίτων Ναυτικής Σχολής Ύδρας, θα έχουμε μεγάλο θέμα στο επόμενο τεύχος. Ένας θεσμός για τον κλάδο του επαγγελματικού yachting

Από τις 29 Απριλίου έως τις 4 Μαΐου το νησί του Πόρου πλημμύρισε από επαγγελματικά yachts, δίνοντας την ευκαιρία σε yacht brokers, travel agents και tour operators από όλο τον κόσμο να θαυμάσουν τα ξεχωριστά yachts και να προχωρήσουν σε εμπορικές συμφωνίες με τους ιδιοκτήτες τους.

To East Med Yacht Show-Poros 2014 διοργανώθηκε για 14η συνεχή χρονιά από την Ένωση Πλοιοκτητών Ελληνικών Σκαφών Τουρισμού (ΕΠΕΣΤ), τον Ελληνικό Σύνδεσμο Μεσιτών και Εμπειρογνωμόνων Θαλαμηγών (ΕΣΜΕΘ), τον Σύνδεσμο των Εν Ελλάδι Τουριστικών και Ταξιδιωτικών Γραφείων (ΗΑΤΤΑ), την Περιφέρεια Αττικής και τον Δήμο Πόρου, υπό την αιγίδα του Υπουργείου Ναυτιλίας και Αιγαίου, του Ελληνικού Οργανισμού Τουρισμού (ΕΟΤ), του Συνδέσμου Ελληνικών Τουριστικών Επιχειρήσεων (ΣΕΤΕ) και του Ξενοδοχειακού Επιμελητηρίου Ελλάδος (ΞΕΕ). Τα 40 επαγγελματικά πολυτελή σκάφη και ιστιοπλοϊκά αναψυχής συγκεντρωμένα στο λιμάνι του Πόρου, αποτέλεσαν πόλο έλξης τόσο για τους επαγγελματίες του θαλάσσιου τουρισμού όσο και για πληθώρα επισκεπτών. δης, ο Λιμενάρχης Πόρου Αντιπλοίαρχος Ιωάννης Αθηναίος, οι πολιτικές αρχές του νησιού και εκπρόσωποι των σωμάτων ασφαλείας, κάτοικοι και επισκέπτες του νησιού. Την τελετή των εγκαινίων ακολούθησε δεξίωση στο εντυπωσιακό 54 μέτρων σκάφος HARMONY V, το οποίο συμμετείχε στην Έκθεση. Στην έκθεση, η οποία πλέον έχει παγκόσμια αναγνώριση προβάλλοντας τον ελληνικό Θαλάσσιο Τουρισμό, την Ελλάδα αλλά και το νησί του Πόρου διεθνώς, επισκέφθηκαν για να δουν και να κλείσουν συμφωνίες, ναυλομεσίτες και travel agents από γραφεία της Ελλάδας και πολλά μέρη του εξωτερικού απ’ όπου προέρχεται και το μεγαλύτερο ποσοστό κρατήσεων σε αυτό το είδος τουρισμού. Την έκθεση συμπλήρωσαν περίπτερα με εταιρείες από το χώρο των ναυλώσεων αλλά και εταιρείες οι οποίες παρέχουν υπηρεσίες στο θαλάσσιο τουρισμό. Κατά τη διάρκεια του 14th East Med Yacht Show, πραγματοποιήθηκαν παράλληλες πολιτιστικές εκδηλώσεις που διοργανώθηκαν από το Δήμο Πόρου και οι οποίες κορυφώθηκαν με την συναυλία των Burger Project το απόγευμα της Κυριακής. Η έκθεση ολοκληρώθηκε με το farewell gala στο Sirene Blue Resort Hotel όπου ανανέωσε το ραντεβού με τους επισκέπτες της για το 2016. Χορηγοί:

Συνεχίζεται η αναταραχή στα λιμάνια

Η κυβέρνηση θέλει να πουλήσει, αλλά «κρατιέται»... Η ανααραχή στο λιμάνι! Συνεχίζεται. Ενώ η κυβέρνηση έχει ανακοινώσει επισήμως ότι θα πωληθεί ο ΟΛΠ, ο πρόεδρος της ΟΜΥΛΕ …κατήγγειλε την κυβέρνηση και υπουργούς και έθεσε ζήτημα «μείζονος ηθικής και δεοντολογίας», καθώς απεκάλυψε (;) ότι ο Γενικός Γραμματέας του υπουργικού συμβουλίου Γ. Σαγιάς, έχει διατελέσει νομικός Σύμβουλος της Cosco! Όλα αυτά, συνέβησαν ενώ συνεχίζονταν διαρροές που προκαλούν σύγχυση. Τη μια, η κυβέρνηση άφηνε να φανεί ότι θα πουλήσει το 51% και «θα δούμε», την άλλη, ο υπουργός Γ. Σταθάκης ομιλούσε περί «αναπροσαρμογής της συμφωνίας», άποψη την οποία διέψευδε με κατηγορηματικό τρόπο το ΤΑΙΠΕΔ! «Δεν ξέρω αν ασχολείται με τις διαδικασίες του διαγωνισμού πώλησης του ΟΛΠ, αν και οι ευθύνες της θέσης του μάλλον του επιβάλλουν να ασχολείται, αλλά να αναρωτηθεί η ίδια η κυβέρνηση αν είναι ηθικό να βρίσκεται στη θέση του γενικού γραμματέα του υπ. Συμβουλίου ένας άνθρωπος, του οποίου συνεργάτες του γραφείου του βρίσκονταν «απέναντί μας», όποτε είχαμε δικαστική αντιδικία με την Cosco», δήλωσε ο Π. Γεωργακόπουλος στη συνέντευξη που παραχώρησε . Οι εργαζόμενοι κατηγόρησαν υπουργούς του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ για «μετεκλογική μετάλλαξη» και τους κάλεσαν να εξακολουθήσουν να υποστηρίζουν τη γραμμή της μη πώλησης του ΟΛΠ, ακριβώς όπως έκαναν τα τελευταία επτά χρόνια περίπου όταν βρίσκονταν στην αντιπολίτευση. Ο Πρόεδρος της ΟΜΥΛΕ, Π. Γεωργακόπουλος και ο Πρόεδρος των Λιμενεργατών Ν. Γεωργίου, κάλεσαν τον Θ. Δρίτσα και τον Π. Λαφαζάνη "να μην κρύβονται". «Δεν τους ζητάμε να στηρίξουν τις απόψεις μας, αλλά να στηρίξουν τις δικές τους απόψεις», είπε ο πρόεδρος της ΟΜΥΛΕ και υποστήριξε πως εκείνοι που τόσα χρόνια στάθηκαν δίπλα τους στους αγώνες κατά της ιδιωτικοποίησης των λιμανιών, έχουν ως βουλευτές και πολύ περισσότερο ως υπουργοί, αυξημένη ευθύνη να υποστηρίξουν τις προεκλογικές θέσεις τους. Από την κριτική των συνδικαλιστών του λιμανιού δεν ξέφυγαν οι Γ. Δραγασάκης και Γ. Σταθάκης. Ο Αντιπρόεδρος της κυβέρνησης για το ταξίδι του στο Πεκίνο, όπου σύμφωνα με τον Π. Γεωργακόπουλο διαπραγματεύτηκε την πώληση του λιμανιού του Πειραιά σαν να μην έχει αλλάξει τίποτα, ο δε υπουργός Οικονομίας για τους χειρισμούς του που στόχο έχουν, σύμφωνα με τους ίδιους συνδικαλιστές, να πουληθεί όχι το 67% του λιμανιού αλλά το 51%, με προοδευτική αύξηση ανά έτος αυτού του ποσοστού. «Δεν σέβονται ούτε την στοιχειώδη δεοντολογία, ούτε το γεγονός ότι τυπικά υπάρχουν κι άλλοι υποψήφιοι εκτός της Cosco», είπαν χαρακτηριστικά, ενώ ο κ. Γεωργακόπουλος πρόσθεσε πως το σενάριο πώλησης του 51% είναι χειρότερο από την πώληση του 67%, απλούστατα γιατί εμπεριέχει και το στοιχείο της κοροϊδίας!

Η κυβέρνηση να θυμηθεί τις προγραμματικές δηλώσεις της

Ο Π. Γεωργακόπουλος υποστήριξε ότι οι συνδικαλιστές δεν βλέπουν το εσωκομματικό μέτωπο αλλά τις κινήσεις συνολικά της κυβέρνησης επάνω σε ένα θέμα, το οποίο προεκλογικά είχε τοποθετηθεί. Και υπενθύμισε ότι, στη Βουλή στις προγραμματικές δηλώσεις, η κυβέρνηση είχε μια σαφή θέση, την οποία κάλεσε να θυμηθεί έστω και την ύστατη στιγμή, καθώς, όπως είπε, η εγκατάλειψη αυτών των θέσεων ουσιαστικά αποτελεί μια ιδιόμορφη εγκατάλειψη θέσεων, που οδήγησαν κάποια μερίδα ψηφοφόρων να την επιλέξουν. Ο πρόεδρος της ΟΜΥΛΕ δήλωσε επίσης ότι για θέματα που έχουν προκύψει με τα αρμόδια ευρωπαϊκά όργανα και το φορολογικό, που σχετίζεται με την παραχώρηση και τους φιλικούς διακανονισμούς διαπιστώνεται διακομματική αφωνία, για ένα θέμα το οποίο όπως είπε θα χειριστεί αναγκαστικά η κυβέρνηση, από τις κινήσεις της οποίας εξαρτάται, αν τελικά ο απλός πολίτης θα κληθεί να πληρώσει τη ζημιά. Αίσθηση προκάλεσε παρέμβαση συνδικαλιστή που υποστήριξε ότι ο υπ. Ναυτιλίας Θ. Δρίτσας, δεν δέχεται φορείς που είναι κατά της πώλησης του λιμανιού του Πειραιά, ενώ δέχεται τον Β. Κορκίδη, πρόεδρο του ΕΒΕΠ ή εκπροσώπους του Βιοτεχνικού Πάρκου Σχιστού (ΒΙ.ΠΑΣ), που είναι υπέρ της πώλησης, παραλληλίζοντας αυτήν τη στάση με εκείνη του προκατόχου του Μιλτ. Βαρβιτσιώτη! Από το μπαράζ των αντικυβερνητικών επιθέσεων των συνδικαλιστών κατά της κυβέρνησης δεν ξέφυγε φυσικά και ο Γ. Βαρουφάκης για την παλαιότερη «ιδιωτική», όπως χαρακτηρίστηκε επίσκεψή του στις εγκαταστάσεις της COSCO.

Το ΤΑΙΠΕΔ

Την γενικότερη σύγχυση περί την πολιτική της κυβέρνησης για το θέμα της πώλησης ή μη του ΟΛΠ, πάντως, επέτεινε δελτίο Τύπου του ΤΑΙΠΕΔ, στην κατοχή του οποίου βρίσκεται η πλειοψηφία του μετοχικού κεφαλαίου της ΟΛΠ Α.Ε., στο οποίο με αφορμή δημοσιεύματα σχετικά με το διαγωνισμό για την απόκτηση του 67% του ΟΛΠ σημειώνεται: «Το ΤΑΙΠΕΔ διευκρινίζει ότι δεν διαπραγματεύεται με κανέναν την αλλαγή όρων του διαγωνισμού. Το ΤΑΙΠΕΔ τηρεί απαρέγκλιτα τους όρους διαφάνειας και ίσης μεταχείρισης των επενδυτών και ενημερώνει ότι επεξεργάζεται μικρής έκτασης τροποποίηση των όρων, τους οποίους και «θα επικοινωνήσει άμεσα σε όλους τους επενδυτές που βρίσκονται στη Β' φάση του διαγωνισμού». Λίγες μέρες αργότερα, ο αν. υπουργός Ναυτιλίας, Θ. Δρίτσας, παρενέβη με δήλωσή του, τονίζοντας προς την ΟΜΥΛΕ πως «Ό,τι γίνει στα λιμάνια θα είναι υπέρ του δημοσίου συμφέροντος», αλλά οι εργαζόμενοι απήργησαν και ετοιμάζονται για νέες κινητοποιήσεις. Η συνέχεια επί του προβλήτα!

Η 33η Τακτική Γενική Συνέλευση των Μελών της ΗELMEPΑ φιλοξενήθηκε από την εταιρεία μέλος DANAOS SHIPPING στον Πειραιά, την 29 Απριλίου 2015. Η Συνέλευση διεξήχθη υπό τον Πρόεδρο της HELMEPA, Δρα Ι. Κούστα και με Γραμματείς την Μ. Χριστοπούλου από τη NEDA MARITIME AGENCY CO. LTD. και τον Μ. Φραγκιά από την S. LIVANOS HELLAS S.A. Ο Γενικός Διευθυντής, Δ. Κ. Μητσάτσος παρουσίασε τα πεπραγμένα του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου κατά το 2014, τα οποία η Συνέλευση ενέκρινε ομόφωνα. Επίσης ομόφωνα ενέκρινε η Συνέλευση την οικονομική κατάσταση που παρουσίασαν οι Ελεγκτές Moore Stephens και απάλλαξε το Συμβούλιο και τους Ελεγκτές από κάθε διαχειριστική ευθύνη για το 2014. Η Συνέλευση ενέκρινε στη συνέχεια τροποποιήσεις στο Καταστατικό της Ένωσης με τις οποίες δίνεται δικαίωμα ψήφου και εκπροσώπησης στη Γενική Συνέλευση σε όλες τις πλοιοκτήτριες εταιρείες ελληνόκτητων πλοίων ενώ δημιουργείται νέα κατηγορία μελών για πλοιοκτήτριες εταιρείες πλοίων χωρητικότητας 500 - 5.000 κ.ο.χ. με ετήσια εισφορά €500. Ο Πρόεδρος της Ένωσης Εφοπλιστών Ναυτιλίας Μικρών Αποστάσεων (Ε.Ε.Ν.Μ.Α.), Χ. αποφάσισε τη δημιουργία ακόμη μιας νέας κατηγορίας μελών “Partner Members”, η οποία θα περιλαμβάνει P&I Clubs, Ναυπηγεία, Νηογνώμονες και άλλους οργανισμούς, η εισφορά των οποίων θα καθορίζεται ετησίως. Το λόγο πήρε στη συνέχεια, το Ιδρυτικό Μέλος, Γ. Φουστάνος, αναφέροντας ότι προτίθεται να αφιερώσει ειδικό κεφάλαιο για την ιστορία της HELMEPA στο διαδικτυακό μουσείο για την Ελληνική Ναυτιλία “Greek Shipping Miracle”, που έχει δημιουργήσει. Ακόμη, τη Συνέλευση χαιρέτισε ο Διευθυντής του εταιρικού μέλους Green Award Foundation, J. Fransen, ο οποίος εξήρε το έργο της Ένωσης τονίζοντας τη σημασία της προστασίας των θαλασσών για όλους. Ο Ε. Σύμβουλος του εταιρικού μέλους Εκπαιδευτήρια Γείτονα, λαμβάνοντας το λόγο, ανέφερε συγκεκριμένα προγράμματα που εκτελούν με μαθητές και γονείς και πρότεινε να εντάξουν σ’ αυτά θέματα προστασίας του θαλάσσιου περιβάλλοντος σε συνεργασία με τη HELMEPA. Τέλος, σύντομο χαιρετισμό απηύθυνε ο Γ. Τσαβλίρης, Πρόεδρος των CYMEPA και INTERMEPA. Κλείνοντας, ο Πρόεδρος ανακοίνωσε τη χορηγία του ποσού των €200.000 από το εταιρικό μέλος DNV GL προς τη HELMEPA, για την αγορά Προσομοιωτή Γέφυρας, ο οποίος θα εγκατασταθεί στα γραφεία της Ένωσης, με στόχο τον εμπλουτισμό των εθελοντικών επιμορφωτικών προγραμμάτων και την αναβάθμιση του επιπέδου υπηρεσιών που αυτή παρέχει στα μέλη της.

«Η Ελληνική Ναυτιλία μένει Ελλάδα» Κατηγορηματική δήλωση του Ν. Π. Τσάκου «Η Ελληνική Ναυτιλία δεν πρόκειται να φύγει από την Ελλάδα». Με τη δήλωση αυτή, απάντησε ο Νίκος Π. Τσάκος (πρόεδρος του Intertanko και της ΤΕΝ) στον Andi Case, διευθύνοντα σύμβουλο του αγγλικού ναυλομεσιτικού οίκου Clarksons Platou. Λίγο πριν, κατά την εκδήλωση του "Greek Shipping Hall of Fame", ο Άγγλος, αφού τόνισε ότι η αξία του ελληνικού στόλου είναι 100 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια και οι παραγγελίες 30 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια, είπε και τα εξής: «Η ελληνική ναυτιλία είναι ο εθνικός θησαυρός για την Ελλάδα και αυτό πρέπει να γίνει συνέχεια από τη σελίδα 48 Το ανάλογο τμήμα έχει ένα εντυπωσιακό εργαστήριο 2000 τ.μ με εξοπλισμό τεχνολογικά προηγμένο και με προγράμματα που καλύπτουν εφαρμογές σε σημαντικούς τομείς της οικονομίας μας. Όμως όπως βλέπετε σε αυτή την αίθουσα, η ελληνική ναυτιλία δεν πρόκειται να φύγει από την Ελλάδα». Λίγο αργότερα, στους «Αθάνατους» του Hall of Fame της Ελληνικής Ναυτιλίας, προστέθηκαν τα ονόματα του Ιωάννη (Big John) Ν. Γουλανδρή (1923-2011) και του Άλκιμου Γ. Γράτσου 1907-1987).

Επεξεργαστείτε τις προτάσεις τους, αξιολογήστε την υπάρχουσα τεχνολογική υποδομή της Ελλάδας και διαμορφώστε ένα εθνικό σχέδιο σε συνεργασία και με τα υπόλοιπα κόμματα, του οποίου το βασικό χαρακτηριστικό θα είναι η τεχνολογική καινοτομία. Είναι ο μόνος τρόπος, για να υπάρξει φώς στην άκρη του τούνελ για αυτή τη χώρα. Και, φυσικά, ο μόνος τρόπος για να απαντηθεί η (υποθετική δυστυχώς) ερώτησή μου, η οποία, φοβάμαι, θα μείνει για χρόνια αναπάντητη...

Υδατοδρόμια στα μεγάλα λιμάνια μας

Την κατασκευή μητροπολιτικού υδατοδρομίου στον Άγιο Κοσμά εξετάζει το ΤΑΙΠΕΔ, στοχεύοντας στην περαιτέρω τουριστική ανάπτυξη της Αττικής. Μέχρι στιγμής, έχει αδειοδοτηθεί το υδατοδρόμιο της Κέρκυρας και έπονται κατά σειρά τα υδατοδρόμια σε Παξούς, Πάτρα, Λαύριο, Αγ. Μαρίνα (Ραφήνα), Ηράκλειο, Αλεξανδρούπολη, Θεσσαλονίκη και Βόλο. Στα αδειοδοτημένα Υδατοδρόμια, που θα λειτουργήσουν στα μεγάλα λιμάνια της Ελλάδας, θα επιτρέπεται, βάσει του Ν.4146/13, η πραγματοποίηση τακτικών και charter πτήσεων υδροπλάνων για μεταφορά επιβατών, φορτίων, ταχυδρομείου καθώς και μια σειρά ειδικών πτήσεων (Νοσοκομειακών, Έρευνας-Διάσωσης, Πυρόσβεσης, Γενικής αεροπορίας, Αεροπορικών εργασιών κ.λ.π). Οι πτήσεις θα μπορούν να πραγματοποιούνται τόσο, προς κάθε άλλο αδειοδοτημένο Υδατοδρόμιο, όσο και προς χερσαία αεροδρόμια με τη χρήση αμφίβιων υδροπλάνων. Παράγοντες του τουρισμού αναφέρουν, ότι πρέπει να υπάρξουν συνέργειες της δραστηριότητας των υδροπλάνων με την κρουαζιέρα. Κατ' αυτούς, τα υδροπλάνα θα μπορούν να εξυπηρετούν με περιηγητικές πτήσεις τους επιβάτες των κρουαζιεροπλοίων, παρέχοντάς τους ένα μοναδικό τρόπο να δουν και να κρατήσουν στη μνήμη τους τα αξιοθέατα του προορισμού τους, ενώ κατά την παραμονή του κρουαζιερόπλοιου στο λιμάνι, τα υδροπλάνα με πτήσεις προς κοντινούς προορισμούς, θα

παρέχουν τη δυνατότητα στους επιβάτες κρουαζιέρας να επισκέπτονται περισσότερες τουριστικές περιοχές ενός μεγάλου νησιού ή και κοντινά νησιά, μεγιστοποιώντας έτσι την ελκυστικότητα του τουριστικού προορισμού που επέλεξαν. Κύκλοι του ΤΑΙΠΕΔ τονίζουν, ότι τα υδροπλάνα μπορούν να αποτελέσουν το «χρηστικό εργαλείο», που μέχρι σήμερα λείπει από το συγκοινωνιακό δίκτυο της χώρας, ώστε να επιτευχθεί η αδιάλειπτη και ποιοτική συνδεσιμότητα μεταξύ νησιωτικής και ηπειρωτικής Ελλάδας. Μια συνδεσιμότητα που αποτελεί Εθνικό στόχο για λόγους κοινωνικούς, τουριστικούς και ευρύτερα αναπτυξιακούς.

Είναι καταγεγραμμένη η αντίρρησή του να εκδοθεί το έργο ‘Σταυρός του Νότου», όταν του πήγε τα τραγούδια ο Μικρούτσικος. Κι’ αν κάμφθηκε και δέχτηκε, αυτό οφείλεται –κατά τας γραφάς!- στην αγάπη που είχε ο επιχειρηματίας στο πρόσωπο και το ταλέντο του Μικρούτσικου. Το πόσο θερμά αγκάλιασε και με τον καιρό αγάπησε το μελοποιημένο έργο του Καββαδία το ελληνικό κοινό, αποδεικνύεται από τις πωλήσεις των δίσκων, ο αριθμός των οποίων παραμένει αξεπέραστος, όσο και οι στίχοι από το ‘Κούρο Σίβο’, το ‘Καραντί’, την Fata Morgana και τόσες άλλες εξαίσιες στιγμές και ήχους… Το πόσο λάτρεψε ο Καββαδίας την θάλασσα, αποδεικνύεται – κυρίως- από ένα στίχο πέντε λέξεων (από την Fata Morgana) : «Θα μεταλάβω με νερό θαλασσινό» Τελευταία λογοτεχνική απόπειρα με τεράστια επιτυχία, έγινε από την εξαιρετική μαστόρισσα του μυθιστορήματος Ιωάννα Καρυστιάνη. Η συγγραφέας φαίνεται πως ‘γυρόφερνε’ τα θέματά της στις ναυτικές ιστορίες και όταν της δόθηκε η ευκαιρία, μας χάρισε το μυθιστόρημα «Σουέλ», μια εξαιρετικά δυνατή ιστορία αγάπης του ανθρώπου προς το νερό. Το ότι ο σακατεμένος καπετάνιος- πρωταγωνιστής, κρύβει τα πρόβλημά του στην όραση, προκειμένου να παραμείνει στο μπάρκο –και αν είναι δυνατό να πεθάνει ταξιδεύοντας- είναι μια αληθινή υπόθεση που θα ήταν απίθανο να μη συγκινούσε τους αναγνώστες. Και τους συγκίνησε!

Η ελληνική λογοτεχνική συμμετοχή με πρωταγωνίστρια την ΘΑΛΑΣΣΑ, κατά μεγάλο ποσοστό οφείλεται στον σπουδαίο Κεφαλλονίτη ποιητή Νίκο Καββαδία. Ήταν ο μαγεμένος από την θάλασσα ναυτικός που της αφιερώθηκε με όλα τα φύλλα της καρδιάς του. Οι εικόνες από τους διάσημους στίχους του Καββαδία συγκίνησαν –και εξακολουθούν να συγκινούν- γενιές και γενιές. Σε ταξιδεύουν και σε μαγεύουν. Κι’ όμως, όταν ο Κόλλιας πρωτοεμφανίστηκε –το 1933- με την ποιητική συλλογή ‘Μαραμπού’, η κριτική τον ειρωνεύτηκε σκληρά. Μόνο ο Φώτος Πολίτης και ο Κώστας Βάρναλης τόλμησαν να εκφράσουν συμπαθητικά λόγια για τον νεαρό Καββαδία. Ο Καββαδίας, με τις τρεις συλλογές του ‘Μαραμπού’, ‘Πούσι’, ‘Τραβέρσο’ και το μυθιστόρημα ‘Βάρδια’, κατάφερε να κατακτήσει ζηλευτή θέση στην ελληνική λογοτεχνία. Επόμενο ήταν να γοητεύσει σημαντικούς συνθέτες. Τον Γιάννη Σπανό, την Μαρίζα Κοχ, κυρίως όμως τον Πατρινό Θάνο Μικρούτσικο, ο οποίος συνέβαλε στην μουσική μας κληρονομιά με τα έργα του «Σταυρός του Νότου» και «Γραμμές των οριζόντων». Στο μεταξύ, για δεύτερη φορά – αν και ‘απών’ ετούτη- ο Καββαδίας επρόκειτο να αμφισβητηθεί. Τώρα όχι από την κριτική, αλλά από τον ηγέτη της δισκογραφικής εταιρίας ‘Λύρα’ Α. Πατσιφά.

Πολυκοσμία στην Press conference Mε μια συνέντευξη Tύπου, που χαρακτηρίσθηκε από την παρουσία όλων των φορέων της τουριστικής ναυτιλίας, άνοιξε ο φάκελος του Tρίτου Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum, που διεξάγεται στο Mέγαρο Mουσικής Aθηνών. Παρόντες, ο υπουργός Nαυτιλίας Θ. Δρίτσας, ο οποίος ανέπτυξε επί μακρόν τα σχέδια του υπουργείου και της κυβερνήσεως για την ανάπτυξη του θαλασσίου τουρισμού, ο πρόεδρος του NEE Γ. Γράτσος, που, όπως πάντα, με γλαφυρότητα παρουσίασε τις επιθυμητές

λύσεις για τα προβλήματα της κρουαζιέρας και του γιώτινγκ. O πρόεδρος των επιχειρηματιών Γιώτινγκ Aντ. Στελλιάτος, ζήτησε από τον υπουργό «να πάρει επάνω του» το θέμα της ηλεκτρονικής καταχώρισης των επαγγελματικών σκαφών, που λιμνάζει στο υπ. Oικονομικών. O πρόεδρος των Eπιχειρήσεων κρουαζιέρας Θ. Kόντες, μίλησε για το “Home Porting” και ο πρόεδρος του ΣEEN Mιχ. Σακέλλης, επεσήμανε τους κινδύνους που κρύβει για την Aκτοπλοϊα τυχόν αύξηση του ΦΠA. O εκπρόσωπος του ΣETE, αναφέρθηκε στην ανάγκη να δοθεί περισσότερη προσοχή και σημασία στις τουριστικές επιχειρήσεις και ο «Aμφιτρύων» της εκδήλωσης, γενικός διευθυντής της “Celestyal” Kυρ. Αναστασιάδης, αφού η εκδήλωση πραγματοποιήθηκε στο κρουαζιερόπλοιο της εταιρείας “Celestyal Odyssey”, ζήτησε «απλά πράγματα» από τους υπεύθυνους των λιμανιών. Δηλαδή, καθαριότητα, περισσότερα δοχεία απορριμμάτων και… κάνα τροχονόμο, που στον Πειραιά έχουν γίνει πιο σπάνιοι και από το φιλότιμο!

Δύο εκδόσεις για τα Λιμάνια του Αιγαίου και του Ιονίου Με εξαιρετική επιτυχία παρουσιάστηκαν στο φουαγιέ του Δημοτικού Θεάτρου Πειραιά οι τόμοι των βιβλίων του Εθνικού Ιδρύματος Ερευνών (ΕΙΕ) για τα Λιμάνια του Αιγαίου και του Ιονίου. Την εκδήλωση χαιρέτισαν ο Δήμαρχος Πειραιά, Ι. Μώραλης, ο Πρόεδρος και Δ/νων Σύμβουλος του ΟΛΠ Α.Ε, Γιώργος Ανωμερίτης και ο Δ/ντής του Ινστιτούτου Ιστορικών Ερευνών του ΕΙΕ, Ταξιάρχης Κόλλιας. Τους δύο τόμους του βιβλίου “Ταξίδια στο Αιγαίο με πλοηγό την Ιστορία” και “Ταξίδια στο Ιόνιο με πλοηγό την Ιστορία” παρουσίασαν η καθηγήτρια Ιστορίας, Χριστίνα Αγριαντώνη, η καθηγήτρια Νεοελληνικής Φιλολογίας, Ερασμία Σταυροπούλου και οι επιμελητές της έκδοσης, Δ/ντες του ΕΙΕ, Ευγενία Δρακοπούλου και Δημήτρης Δημητρόπουλος. Η παρουσίαση των βιβλίων με χορηγό τον ΟΛΠ Α.Ε. και τη συμπαράσταση του Ιστορικού Αρχείου ΟΛΠ, αποτέλεσε και την εναρκτήρια εκδήλωση του Δήμου Πειραιά και της Ε.Ε. για την ”Ευρωπαϊκή Ημέρα Θάλασσας” που διοργανώνεται για πρώτη φορά στη χώρα μας με σειρά συνεδρίων και πολιτιστικών εκδηλώσεων στον Πειραιά.

Η Κίνα βασίλισσα στις ναυπηγήσεις

Προς κατασκευή 2.374 πλοία Το παγκόσμιο ναυπηγικό κέντρο μετακινείται συνεχώς προς Ανατολάς από την Βρετανία και τις ΗΠΑ, στην Ιαπωνία, τη Νότιο Κορέα και, πλέον, στην Κίνα. Ο πρωταρχικός λόγος για αυτή την αλλαγή είναι το πλεονέκτημα της χώρας υποδοχής στο μειωμένο κόστος υλικών, ενώ ακολουθούν η υπεροχή στην τεχνολογία/τεχνογνωσία και οι δημόσιες επενδύσεις, σύμφωνα με την ανάλυση που περιλαμβάνεται στην μηνιαία ναυτιλιακή ανασκόπηση της Τράπεζας Πειραιώς. Στην τελευταία διετία, μέσω της ανάκαμψης της παγκόσμιας οικονομίας, η αγορά της ναυπηγικής βιομηχανίας είναι σε ακμάζουσα φάση. Οσον αφορά την Κίνα, με την ένταξη της χώρας στον Παγκόσμιο Οργανισμό Εμπορίου από τις 11 Δεκεμβρίου 2001 και σε συνδυασμό με την ταχεία ανάπτυξη της οικονομίας της (+7,4% το 2014, +7,13% το 2013), κατάφερε να ανέλθει στην πρώτη θέση της παγκόσμιας κατάταξης ναυπηγικών χωρών από το 2009 έως το 2014 (με εξαίρεση το 2011), βάσει της χωρητικότητας σε νέες παραγγελίες, αναφέρει η ανάλυση. Ο συνολικός αριθμός των υπό παραγγελία πλοίων στα ναυπηγεία της Κίνας ανέρχεται στα 2.374 και η συνολική χωρητικότητά τους σε 139.763.902 κ.ο.χ., με την Ιαπωνία να ακολουθεί στην δεύτερη θέση με 931

πλοία, χωρητικότητας 59.059.612 κ.ο.χ. και τη Νότιο Κορέα στην τρίτη θέση, με 844 πλοία χωρητικότητας 82.800.186 κ.ο.χ. Στην τέταρτη θέση βρίσκεται η Βραζιλία, με 148 πλοία χωρητικότητας 6.748.186 κ.ο.χ. και στην πέμπτη θέση βρίσκοται οι ΗΠΑ με 93 πλοία, χωρητικότητας 1.230.245 κ.ο.χ. Η πρώτη ευρωπαϊκή χώρα στην σχετική κατάταξη είναι η Ολλανδία, που βρίσκεται στην έκτη θέση, στα ναυπηγεία της οποίας κατασκευάζονται 81 πλοία, συνολικής χωρητικότητας 296.810 κ.ο.χ.

ALBA Hub for Enterprise and Development Υποτροφίες για στελέχη πολύ μικρών επιχειρήσεων To ALBA Hub for Enterprise and Development (AHEAD), το κέντρο επιχειρηματικότητας του ALBA Graduate Business School at The American College of Greece, ανακοίνωσε και εφέτος υποτροφίες για στελέχη πολύ μικρών επιχειρήσεων για ένα από τα μεταπτυχιακά προγράμματά του. Στόχος του AHEAD είναι να υποστηρίξει τόσο εντός, όσο και εκτός της κοινότητας του ALBA την κατανόηση και την ανάπτυξη της επιχειρηματικότητας. Οι υποτροφίες στοχεύουν στην ενίσχυση του επιχειρηματικού ταλέντου με γνώση, δικτύωση και δεξιότητες. Από το 2012, που ανακοινώθηκαν για πρώτη χρονιά οι συγκεκριμένες υποτροφίες, έχουν δοθεί υποτροφίες συνολικού ύψους €58.250 σε 7 υποτρόφους: 4 στο The ALBA MBA και από μια στα MSc MAY 2015 SHIPPING 61

Ο Ιωάννης Παπουτσάς έλαβε την υποτροφία το 2013 για το The ALBA MBA. «Η υποτροφία του AHEAD μου έδωσε την ευκαιρία να ακολουθήσω το όνειρό μου και να παρακολουθήσω το MBA του ALBA. Ίδρυμα «Μαρία Τσάκος» - HELMEPA

Εθελοντικοί καθαρισμοί στα Καρδάμυλα Η HELMEPA υποστήριξε και συμμετείχε στην πρωτοβουλία του Ιδρύματος «Μαρία Τσάκος»-Διεθνές Κέντρο Ναυτικής Έρευνας και Παράδοσης, να οργανώσει εθελοντικούς καθαρισμούς στα Καρδάμυλα, 25 και 26 Απριλίου, στο πλαίσιο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ημέρας Καθαρισμού 2015. Στέλεχος της HELMEPA ενημέρωσε και συντόνισε μαζί με στελέχη του Ιδρύματος τους διήμερους καθαρισμούς, στους οποίους συμμετείχαν μαθητές και μέλη της Συμβουλευτικής Επιτροπής της Μαθητικής Στέγης Καρδαμύλων «Το Σπίτι της Μαρίας», στελέχη της TSAKOS Shipping and Trading (γραφείο της Χίου), κάτοικοι των Καρδαμύλων, μέλη του

Συλλόγου Γυναικών, του Φιλοπρόοδου Ομίλου και του Ναυτικού Ομίλου. Οι 60 εθελοντές καθάρισαν συνολικά 1,5 χλμ ακτής «από τους Μύλους του Μαυρή ως τα Κόκκινα» συλλέγοντας περίπου 230 κιλά απορρίμματα! Πέρα από τα συνηθισμένα αντικείμενα που δεν έχουν θέση στις ακτές μας όπως καλαμάκια, καπάκια, πλαστικά και αλουμινένια κουτιά, στα νέα «κοχύλια» των θαλασσών, όπως τα αποκάλεσε με απογοήτευση ένας εθελοντής, βρέθηκαν ξυριστική μηχανή, παπούτσια, καρέκλες, λάστιχα αυτοκινήτων, σκληρός δίσκος υπολογιστή, κατεστραμμένες φουσκωτές βάρκες και άγκυρες, πολλά κομμάτια από δίχτυα, ένας νεκρός Γλάρος και ένα χέλι. Οι εθελοντές ανανέωσαν το «ραντεβού» για δράση για τις 9 και 10 Μαΐου. Με χαρά περιμένουμε να καλωσορίσουμε στο Πρόγραμμα «Ναυτίλοι της HELMEPA» τους μαθητές της Μαθητικής Στέγης Καρδαμύλων «Το Σπίτι της Μαρίας», αλλά και άλλους νέους και νέες που συμμετείχαν στους καθαρισμούς.

“Quantum of the Seas”:

Ένας γίγας στο λιμάνι του Πειραιά...

To κρουαζιερόπλοιο “QUANTUM OF THE SEAS” της εταιρίας Royal Carribean International (RCI) και τον καπετάνιο Srecko “Felix” Ban, υποδέχθηκε η Διοίκηση και τα διευθυντικά στελέχη του ΟΛΠ Α.Ε. στην πρώτη του επίσκεψη στο λιμάνι του Πειραιά, στις 18 Μαΐου. Το Quantum of the Seas, το τρίτο μεγαλύτερο κρουαζιερόπλοιο στον κόσμο, ολοκληρώθηκε και παραδόθηκε στην RCI τον Οκτώβριο του 2014, ενώ το παρθενικό του ταξίδι ξεκίνησε στις 2 Νοεμβρίου 2014. Έχει μήκος 347 μέτρα, 2090 καμπίνες, με μέγιστη χωρητικότητα 4.905 επιβατών και πλήρωμα 1500 ατόμων. Αποτελεί το μεγαλύτερο κρουαζιερόπλοιο που πλέει στα νερά της Μεσογείου και το μεγαλύτερο που επισκέπτεται ως νεότευκτο το λιμάνι του Πειραιά.

...και τo “Mein Schiff 3” στα νερά μας

Ο Πειραιάς υποδέχθηκε κατά την πρώτη επίσκεψη του στο λιμάνι κρουαζιέρας του ΟΛΠ Α.Ε., το νεότευκτο κρουαζιερόπλοιο “MEIN SCHIFF 3” της TUI Cruises, το οποίο θα επισκέπτεται το λιμάνι του Πειραιά συνεχώς όλο το καλοκαίρι 2015 κατά τη διάρκεια των δρομολογίων του. Στον πλοίαρχο, που είναι Έλληνας, ο κ. Αναστασίου Ιωάννης, παρέδωσαν εμβλήματα και βιβλία ο Περιφερειάρχης Πειραιά κ. Γιώργος Γαβρίλης, ο Πρόεδρος και Δ/νων Σύμβουλος του ΟΛΠ Α.Ε. κ. Γιώργος Ανωμερίτης, ο Πρόεδρος του Δημοτικού Συμβουλίου Πειραιά κ. Δαβάκης Γεώργιος και εκπρόσωποι της Ένωσης Κρουαζιερόπλοιων, της εταιρίας TUI Ελλάς κ.α. Σε δηλώσεις του ο Γ. Ανωμερίτης, αφού καλωσόρισε τον πλοίαρχο, τους αξιωματικούς και το πλήρωμα του πλοίου, χαρακτήρισε το λιμάνι του Πειραιά “βασικό κόμβο της μεσογειακής κρουαζιέρας” και λιμάνι-πρότυπο, αφού παρέχει όλες τις αιτούμενες από τις εταιρίες υψηλής ποιότητας υπηρεσίες και κυρίως περιβαλλοντικές ευκολίες, τροφοδοσίες και συνθήκες ασφαλείας. Είναι χαρακτηριστικό ότι την ίδια ώρα με το 300μ. μήκος ‘’ΜEIN SCHIFF 3’’ παρείχετο εξυπηρέτηση άλλων τεσσάρων κρουαζιερόπλοιων με 12.000 επιβάτες και πληρώματα χωρίς κανένα πρόβλημα, μεταξύ των οποίων και το επίσης 300μ. μήκους ‘’Norwegian Jade’’ της ΝCL. Αδελφοποίηση του ΟΛΠ - Shenzhen

Τον Οργανισμό Λιμένος Πειραιώς και τις εγκαταστάσεις του επισκέφθηκε ενδεκαμελής ομάδα επιτελικών στελεχών της κινέζικης πόλης Shenzhen και του λιμανιού της. Η Shenzhen, μια πόλη 15 εκατ. κατοίκων βρίσκεται βόρεια του Χόνγκ Κόνγκ στη Ν. Κίνα, διαθέτει ΕΟΖ από το 1979 και αποτελεί μια από τις ταχύτερα αναπτυσσόμενες περιοχές του κόσμου, ένα είδος “Silicon Valley” της Κίνας, λόγω παραγωγής προϊόντων υψηλής τεχνολογίας. Το λιμάνι του Shenzhen είναι ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα της Κίνας. Αποτελεί το τέταρτο πιο πολυσύχναστο λιμάνι του κόσμου σε θέματα εμπορευματοκιβωτίων απέχει δε μόνο 20 ν.μ από το λιμάνι του Χόνγκ Κόνγκ. Στις συζητήσεις που έγιναν μεταξύ των δύο πλευρών, με συμμετοχή του Προέδρου και Δ/ντος Συμβούλου του ΟΛΠ Α.Ε., Γιώργου Ανωμερίτη, του Γεν. Δ/ντή, Στ. Χατζάκου, Δ/ντών του ΟΛΠ Α.Ε. και των επικεφαλής της Επιτροπής Μεταφορών του Δ. Shenzhen Shi Wei και Tse Ming Benjamin, των Δ/ντών Συμβούλων του

λιμένα, κ.κ. Lam Hing Man και Yim Kong κυριάρχησε η συνεργασία για θέματα διακίνησης εμπορευματοκιβωτίων. Οι επικεφαλής της κινεζικής πλευράς πρότειναν στη Διοίκηση του ΟΛΠ Α.Ε. την υπογραφή άμεσα ενός κειμένου αδελφοποίησης των 2 λιμανιών και την υπογραφή ενός MOU μεταξύ των λιμένων Πειραιά και Shenzhen. Ο ΟΛΠ Α.Ε. αποδέχθηκε την πρόταση για την υπογραφή του MOU, την οποία ήδη απέστειλε στο ΥΠ.ΕΞ. για έγκριση. Σημειώνεται ότι έχει ήδη εγκριθεί η συνυπογραφή ενός MOU μεταξύ ΟΛΠ Α.Ε. και του λιμένα της Tianjin, η οποία βρίσκεται στη Βόρεια Κίνα και αποτελεί και αυτό ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα λιμάνια του κόσμου. Η ανταλλαγή αυτών των επισκέψεων και συμφωνιών εντάσσεται στα πλαίσια του Έτους Συνεργασίας Ελλάδας-Κίνας, για το νέο θαλάσσιο “διάδρομο του μεταξιού”. Το Hellenic Shipbrokers Association υποδέχθηκε, πρόσφατα, στην Αίθουσα Ομιλιών του, 32 σπουδαστές του μεταπτυχιακού προγράμματος MSc in International Shipping and Finance του ALBA Graduate Business School at The American College of Greece και του Βρετανικού Πανεπιστημίου του Reading (Dual Degree ALBA/Reading: http://www.alba.edu.gr/Academic/ ISF/Pages/Home.aspx). Ο Πρόεδρος του HSA, Ιωάννης Κοτζιάς και ο επικεφαλής της Επιτροπής Επιμόρφωσης, Νίκος Πενθερουδάκης παρουσίασαν την ιστορία και σημασία του HSA, την ενεργή συμμετοχή του στα τεκταινόμενα στην Ελληνική Ναυτιλία, την προσπάθειά του για τη μετάδοση της πρακτικής εμπειρίας και των γνώσεων των ναυτιλιακών

παραγόντων, και την επιρροή των μελών του στη διαμόρφωση του διεθνούς ναυτιλιακού περιβάλλοντος. Εστιάζοντας κυρίως σε πραγματικές εμπειρίες τους, χρησιμοποιώντας διαφάνειες και μέσω της διαλεκτικής μεθόδου, ανέδειξαν τον πρωταγωνιστικό και κυριαρχικό, ως ένα βαθμό, ρόλο της Ελλάδας στην παγκόσμια ναυτιλία. Οι σπουδαστές του μεταπτυχιακού προγράμματος είχαν την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσουν τη δραστηριότητα των Ελλήνων Μεσιτών Ναυλώσεων και Αγοραπωλησιών Πλοίων, και να εισαχθούν στις βασικές αρχές λειτουργίας τους. Το HSA συνεργάζεται επί σειρά ετών με απόλυτη επιτυχία και σύμπνοια με τον κ. Σπύρο Βουγιούς, Διευθυντή των ναυτιλιακών προγραμμάτων του ALBA Graduate Business School, με το οποίο υπάρχει συμφωνία υποτροφιών για τους αριστούχους σπουδαστές του Shipbroking Gnosis Certificate. Οι δύο οργανισμοί προσβλέπουν στη συνέχιση της αγαστής αυτής συνεργασίας, με κοινό απώτερο στόχο την άνοδο του επιπέδου της Ελληνικής Ναυτιλιακής αγοράς.
