Betty Boop in ELLE Magazine

STYLE BOSS LADY

Betty sneaks a quick macchiato break at Music.ly’s New York HQ. Nothing combines chic and efficiency quite like Balenciaga’s all-inone stiletto legging. (Blouse, Balenciaga; earrings, Jennifer Fisher.)

Hold onto your hats, boys: Everybody’s favorite liberated cartoon woman is ready to lean in! ELLE gives icon Betty Boop a (totally hot) 2017 makeover. Illustrated by Anne Rufin and Frank Caruso 80

ELLE has always been interested in the personal style of power-wielding creative women— headline-making entrepreneurs, influential politicos, best-selling authors, and James Beard Award– winning chefs. Yet despite all the talent we’ve celebrated over the years, never have we featured a woman with a career spanning a

whopping eight decades, as Betty Boop has. (Never before have we featured a cartoon, either.) Since her 1930 debut—in a talkie titled Dizzy Dishes—Betty, with her signature curves and frank sexuality, has embodied many of the characteristics we admire at ELLE: She’s self-assured, captivating, and always in on the joke.

Now, in a partnership with King Features Syndicate and Fleischer Studios, we reimagine Betty as the consummate ELLE woman, circa 2017; an in-demand Manhattanite, running the show in a new, very now job (chief ideas officer at musicstreaming start-up Music.ly), with a wardrobe hot off the spring runways. Boop-Oop-a-Doop, indeed.
