G.Loomis has long been a leader in graphite rod blank technology. Our desire to make the very best rods in the world is what drives us. It’s never settling for just “good enough”. It’s all about continual innovation and process improvement. Over the years we’ve championed a lot change in the fishing world. Researching and developing new materials and new designs... pushing the boundaries with each and every new product. In the late 90’s we reorganized our product lines into a vertical format, featuring species and technique-specific rods. We hybridized materials to create a unique blend of rod properties that take advantage of the best features of each fibre. These “core models” include EastFork, standard CrossCurrent, ShoreStalker and VersaSpey. They are made with this unique “fibre-blend technology”. GLX, with its extreme light weight and remarkable castability, has been our highest level of performance... but now, it’s a whole new ballgame! After many years of research, hard work and continual technological improvements, our new and most dynamic achievement incorporates all the basic elements that make great fly rods… high modulus graphite, great tapers, the finest in componentry and a new, proprietary resin system. This along with Steve Rajeff’s design ability helped us create an insanely lightweight, ultra-high performance series of rods… we call them NRX!

We took a page from our NRX blank technology to develop a new series of fly rods that “new-to-the-sport” and intermediate flyfishers will learn to appreciate and expert anglers will wonder how this much performance gets packed into such an affordable package. A new taper design along with a noticeable weight-reduction in the upper half of the blank allows us to make a fly rod that is incredibly light, recovers quickly and casts with unbelievable precision. It’s the G.Loomis way... reduce as much weight as possible, take total advantage of the materials and create a taper that is dynamic, efficient and user-friendly. They are as beautiful to look at as they are to cast. A rod any flyfisher would be proud to own!

For years, many manufacturers have pushed fiberglass rods for fishing crankbaits, claiming graphite rods are too stiff and react too fast. That’s partly true because fiberglass is softer and much slower reacting, but we have gone to great lengths to design the soft, slow flex into these rods while still maintaining the sensitivity and lightweight advantage of graphite. Material is only one part of the formula, design is another, and in the case of our crankbait rods, may be the most important. These are specialty casting rods, designed exclusively for crankbaits. GL2 Flipping Stick Rod
Flipping is a technical form of heavy-duty “finesse” fishing. Heavy-duty in that you’re using heavy line, a powerful rod and virtually yanking fish out of heavy cover. Finesse in that you have to be stealthy and maintain total control of the bait, the boat and the presentation. It demands a soft, quiet entry, limited boat noise and the ability to put a lure into a small space with every intent of jerking that fish right out that same spot. It’s a lot of fun and especially effective when the fish are in locations where casting a lure is not an option due to heavy cover and they won’t come out to chase it. The length of a flipping stick allows the angler to “swing” soft plastics or jigs into or right next to heavy cover so that they enter the water softly. This allows a vertical presentation so your lure drops straight to the bottom, unlike a lure that is cast and falls toward the angler, missing perimeter zones because they sink at an angle away from the cover. The test here isn’t so much hooking fish as it is landing them! You need a rod that can move a fish quickly, with authority, before it has a chance to wrap you up in the cover. The GL2 Flipping Stick features a 2.5” tapered, round fighting-butt, a comfortable “hour glass-shaped” cork grip with a 3” cork fore-grip. It gives you uncanny balance and line control. A lot of what bass fishing is all about happens on or near the bottom. Bass are structureoriented critters that use the contours of the lake bottom like a highway. Dropshotting allows you to concentrate your efforts in those areas where they slow down to rest or stage. It’s a special technique for fishing the holding spots. With a sinker at the end of the line and the hook & bait up on the main line a few inches off the bottom, it’s all about getting them to see the bait dangling there seductively, waiting for their reaction. The beauty of this technique is that it doesn’t take a lot of experience to be successful. The rods are designed with soft tips to allow the fish to inhale the bait without feeling a lot of resistance and when the angler feels the tension or just sees the line jump, all they have to do is raise the rod and the rod will do the rest.
