Through the EYE OF DTC SHILPA GAVANE

i look at them, they look at me for a fraction of a second i see myself in them what if i was them, they were me? and then i realise i am them, they are me through a hole in the window pane i photograph them in the cam what i saw for a second is now saved without end so take a bus ride with me and tell me what you see when u look at these photographs do u see yourself in me?

…Taking a ride through a bus, i see thousands of people in the city. Sometimes i notice how they talk, what they are wearing, their body language; small details, abstracted from the rest of the world. I get to see glimpses of their own lives. I wonder where they are going, what they are thinking? What if i was them? And then i realise, I am them, they are me. I am made up in parts of hundred different people. There are people better than me, there are people worse than me. Travelling alone in a bus, and looking out the window, these bus rides make me a more humble human being. This is why i love to travel, to experience and to learn.

Photographing these people through the small holes in window panes, (meant to hold the handles), i am able to make portraits of them. They were unposed and most were unaware that they were being photographed. Through wide angle lens of my handy digicam I am able to capture people’s gestures and expressions just as I would see them in passing. The circle is like my eye, that is able to focus on people’s epressions, not only at a bus stop but also when its moving. Sometimes i end up remembering someone I saw at a bus stop, or someone who looked at me. These visual interactions happen by chance. These are people that i notice subconsiously and photographing them makes me realise this and allows me to express it.…
