There’s a Beautiful Future Ahead

And it all starts with a plan

Noemí ’s Farm Plan

At the center of it all is the family home. There’s a kitchen garden with fresh vegetables and an orchard of citrus fruit. Bollos and patacones, made from corn and plantains, cook in the outdoor kitchen. Sancocho, a traditional stew made with chicken, culantro, cassava, plantains, and yams, boils atop an improved SHI stove that reduces wood consumption and smoke inhalation by 50%. Each piece of food has a role to play, from pigeon peas that improve soil fertility through nitrogen fixation to pineapples that help control soil erosion as a live barrier in terraced farming. The land has been transformed into an integrated and thriving ecosystem that will provide for generations to come.

“These changes that I want to achieve mean a lot to me and my family. My dream is that what my children learn will continue on, generation after generation.”

- Noemí González, Cerro Corral, Panama

Every SHI partnership begins with a farm plan. Working with a field trainer, participants draw their vision for the future of their land.

Each farm plan is a commitment to collaboration and a road map to transform degraded land into lush landscapes of long-lasting abundance.

By healing their land, farmers are achieving food sovereignty and becoming local climate leaders. With less pressure to migrate elsewhere, they’re raising their children with a deep connection to the land. Together, and training they need to achieve their dreams of a more sustainable and just future.

Thank you for supporting this vital transformation.
