Set boundaries with toxic people. If there are people in your life who are consistently negative or harmful to your mental health, it may be time to set some boundaries. In our busy lives, it can be easy to let the relationships that matter most fall by the wayside. Make a conscious effort to spend quality time with the people who mean the most to you. This could mean going on regular dates with your partner, scheduling weekly catch-ups with your best friend, or taking your family on a weekend getaway.
Be grateful for the good ones. Finally, remember to be grateful for the good relationships in your life. These are the people who make you feel loved and supported, and who add joy to your life. cherish these relationships and let the people in them know how much they mean to you Spring cleaning your relationships is an invaluable move that can add so much quality to your life. It’s easy to fall into routines with people and become complacent, but sometimes a much needed shakeup or fresh start can be the best thing for you and those around you. Tell me about where you grew up and what your childhood and family life was like. How did your parents influence you and what's the biggest lessons you learned from them?
TAMAYA I grew up in Strasbourg, France. My parents divorced when I was 9, my sister was 7 years old. My mom has done everything that she could so that we did not lack anything. She was very strong and independent. My dad was here if we needed anything but not so much for the "everydays", I can say he missed out a lot on me and my sister growing up but nevertheless he did what he knew how to do best at the time, which was pursuing his career and entrepreneurship journey. He has always been a role model to me. My dad gave me the entrepreneurship spirit, the relentless energy and everything that comes with entrepreneurship and the mindset around it. My mom just by being who she is, has taught me to go after what I want in life no matter what it is. She taught me unconditional love, forgiveness and compassion. I am the eldest of my siblings, when my parents divorced, they rebuilt their lives and i now have 2 brothers, one on my Mom side and one on my dad side. I was the one setting the exemple, and taking care of everybody as the big sister.

WOMEN, WEALTH & WELLNESS
BOSSY!
Your business focuses on women and their self-care, how important is self-care to women's overall health?
TAMAYA Self-care is VITAL. . . i don't know why most of us see self-care as a luxury or something accessible only to a category of women. . . selfcare looks different for everybody. If you don't have the resources to spend $300 on a massage, you can go in nature and stretch or do a guided meditation. That's just an exemple, some times self-care is making sure your priorities are in check and that you don't put yourself in the back burner. . . A lack of self-care can be very serious and very damaging to our mental and physical health. Stress, anxiety, anger, overeating, undereating, malnourish, lack of sleep. I know some people disagree with this but your body is literally your temple. . it's literally the one place you won't leave. . would you want to live in a home where the roof is falling apart and the debris fall inside your room? nope. . So same with your body and your mind. Make yourself a priority (to your best of your ability) and everything and everyone around you will also feel better and inspired by you. Which creates such an amazing dynamic and safe space within our family and circle. Self-care is important to women's overall health, because there is only so long we can avoid ourselves before our body and mind fall apart. . Put yourself first, you deserve to be well rounded and healthy! its vital!

As a wellness coach do you believe there is a direct correlation between health and wealth?
TAMAYA
ABSOLUTELY!!! Being healthy is not just go for a jog and drinking your green juice. It's how you treat yourself, how you take care of your mental health, how you're dealing with your traumas and your issues. How you manage stress, how you create an enjoyable life through the turbulences of entrepreneurship. . . It's what you eat, how much you sleep etc. . . An example: Poor eating habits leads to feeling sluggish and tired, which doesnt allow a full productivity which leads to frustration. Now you may be behind, or you miss meetings or not as present, so you find the excuse to not exercise and to go for more junk food because no time to cook etc. . . This is one scenario out of many. I believe that our business can not surpass our level of personal development and our level of dedication to self. . . having healthy routines and habits shift your priorities positively hence, make you take better decisions and focus to attract what you are meant to attract in your life and business ! I had this one member during the pandemic, her story was incredibly inspiring! She did my program and was taking my online dance classes, she said she would go an entire month without drinking wine, as a personal challenge and to also better her health and weight loss journey. On the 3rd week of her fitness challenge, she got a call from her job that she is getting a promotion. After 20+ years of having the same position. . . I believe she attracted this opportunity in her life!! Beyond what's in our control, the universe delivers not what we want but what we deserve by the habits that we implement every single day of our lives!

How important is it as an entrepreneur to take risks?
TAMAYA
Everything is a decision. You measure the risks. It will always feel like a risk when it hasn't been done. So honestly, it has to be done, there is so much growth occurring outside of our comfort zone. and like i always say, you never know who you can inspire just by being yourself.
BOSSY!
What's the biggest obstacle you've faced in your entrepreneurial journey and how did you overcome it?
TAMAYA Besides the ups and downs of the income, some months are better than others. I would say when I rebranded, and had to recalibrate the way I was running my business, my offers and services because not only I was burnt out, but I also totally outgrew my business model at some point. . . I was no longer resonating with what I was doing. I overcame it taking a step back for a year and focused on developing new skills and other aspect of my business, I learned to slow down and to reconnect with myself so that I could keep on serving from a place of love and purpose.
BOSSY! MAGAZINE
WOMEN, WEALTH & WELLNESS BOSSY! Tell me about a life defining moment that you feel shaped the person you are today.
TAMAYA There are so many. . and I know there is going to be so many more on my journey of becoming. . . but to chose one I would say the day I realized I get to create my own reality which is my main message for women through the outlets I use to coach.
BOSSY! If someone were looking to join your field, what advice would you give them that you wish you were given?
TAMAYA To not trying to be perfect, use your life lessons to teach and encourage others and to not skip any steps in the journey, meaning really keep on being your best client, practice what you preach, you ALSO deserve all the love and great tips you share with clients. Put yourself first, set time aside to spend WITH yourself. . you can not pour from an empty cup. and in this field, I mean it literally.
BOSSY! MAGAZINE
WOMEN, WEALTH & WELLNESS BOSSY! How do you balance your personal life and business?
BOSSY! Where do you see yourself and your business in 5 years?
TAMAYA I am still figuring this out. . . but one thing I can say I have implemented in 2023 is to take 1 day completely off work and off social media and enjoy rest.
BOSSY! What are you most proud of accomplishing?
TAMAYA Moving across the globe by myself and create a whole life + building my business. When I help women to feel confident, I feel in purpose
TAMAYA Grow my community and work Internationally ! I am developing as a mentor so I definitely see that as being a huge shift and pilar in my career and business. 6 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF WHEN PURSUING YOUR DREAMS
Are you ready to take on the journey of making your dreams come true? If so, congratulations! The road ahead can seem daunting and overwhelming at times, especially when taking risks without knowing if they will pay off. In order for us to make progress as entrepreneurs and set ourselves up for success in any project we undertake, we have to go through a process of self-discovery in order to determine our “Why” and craft an actionable plan. To help with this process, here are 6 important questions that every woman pursuing her dreams should ask herself before starting out:
1. What's your highest priority in this lifetime? What's most important for you to experience, explore or embrace this time around? Until you answer this question, your life goals will be off purpose. Unaligned with your inner passion, your intentions will lack the power to attract the people and situations necessary to become a reality. Get clued into your true joy. What activities did you enjoy as a child? What are your hobbies now? When your goals are aligned with your soul, synchronicity kicks in to guide you to your target. 2. Is this your dream, or someone else's? Are your goals your own choice, or what others think you should strive for? Do you want to look back in your old age and wish you had followed your passion? Will you regret having "played it safe?" Is it selfish to go after your own dream? What joy can you give to others if you haven't given it to yourself first?
Follow Your Heart 3. Are you settling for less than? Are you resigned to accepting less than your full share of love, health and success this lifetime? Have you compromised and sacrificed your dream? Anything short of living your true passions will never make you happy.
4. What will you feel like when you reach your dream? Personal passion fuels a vision. Dive into the thrill and exhilaration of the feeling of living your dream. The Hawaiian Kahuna say, "Where your creative attention flows, so flows your life." 5. What steps can you take today toward your dream? Don't defer your dream. Set up supports and systems around you to instantly translate your intentions into action. Jump on every opportunity that is in line with your purpose and vision. Are there smaller projects that lead to your larger dream? If the dream is to run a marathon, train for a local fun-run first. And find a way to measure your progress. Track those little wins-by writing in a journal or telling a friend.
YOUR MINDSET MATTERS 6. Are you telling yourself: "I can't have my dream?" Most people don't believe they can live their dream. Either their belief system has them believing they can't make a living doing what they love, or they feel they don't deserve their dream. To avoid the pain of feeling they can't have their dream, people often keep their dream so buried they can't remember they ever had a dream. Everyone has a dream! And everyone is destined to fulfill that purpose. Why wait?
Our dreams are precious and individual to each of us. It can seem daunting or scary to consider taking risks and putting yourself out there, but the reward in this case can be quite worth it. Before investing your time and energy into pursuing your dream, put yourself in the best position possible by taking time to carefully ask yourself these six questions. By doing this, you will give yourself an opportunity to think through any potential obstacles that could stand in your way of achieving success. If you still feel lost when trying to decide the next step or figure out how to realistically make your dreams a reality, don't hesitate to reach out for help! At Get Bossy magazine, our trained team of experts will be more than happy to provide support as you take steps towards turning your dreams into reality. So don't wait any longer – if you're ready, start planning now! Email info@getbossymag for more information on how we can support you in making your dreams become a reality.
10 THINGS NEVER TO SAY TO AN AUTISM MOM
WRITTEN BY AN AUTISM SUPERMOM
“Autism can’t define me, I define autism.” Dr. Kerry Magro In honor of Autism Awareness Month (April) and Mother's Day (May 14th), I want to take some time out to do this favor on behalf of parents of ASD kids everywhere. MY ASD baby, was diagnosed very early, at 2 years old. I was so overwhelmed in the beginning. I had so many new medical terms, symptoms and procedures to learn in addition to the emotional strain of learning I would now be parenting a special needs child. I had a whole lot to learn and no time to do it. It was rough.
10 THINGS NEVER TO SAY TO AN AUTISM MOM In hindsight, I’m sure friends, family, coworkers and even strangers had just as many questions and concerns. In hindsight, I’m sure most of their comments were innocent and well meaning. However, I have spent many moments fuming with anger, hurt or exasperation due to ignorant, insensitive, or rude comments and questions made to me about my ASD child.
In the hope that I can save some other parents and well-meaning friends and family some hurt feelings and embarrassment. I have compiled 10 Things You Never Say To The Mom of An Autistic Child. You’re welcome.
“If you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism.”
10 THINGS NEVER TO SAY TO AN AUTISM MOM
An ASD kid’s tantrum isn’t the result of poor parenting.
01.
02.
He looks so normal. - What does this even mean? I don’t know what you think normal looks like or what autistic look like, but my son is fly AF. Thanks though...not. Oh, I’m so sorry! - Listen..I get you may not know what to say. And maybe you’re noticing the amount of blood, sweat and buckets of tears it can sometimes take to parent an ASD kid. But saying sorry makes us feel like you are pitying us and/or that you feel bad that we’ve created the funniest, coolest kid ever. Being this kid’s mom has helped me grow and love in ways I never knew possible, plus he is a genuinely great kid. I’m not sorry, you don’t need to be either.
03.
Are you sure he’s autistic? Believe or not, because Spike is high-functioning, I get this a lot. Yes, he’s verbal and isn’t doing any of the behaviors you’ve seen on Rain Man, but after 3 doctors, 2 neurologists and a team of therapists. Yeah, I’m pretty sure.
Oh, did you have him vaccinated? Or that’s why I don’t vaccinate, Or anything that has 04. the V word. This is a personal and very dangerous subject. There is a very big chance this could get you pimp slapped. Just. Don’t.
05.
He just needs some discipline. Or, you need to spank him. - Now I’m sure there are times when we all have this thought while observing someone else’s child act out. However, this was actually said to me by an older woman, as my three year old had an absolute meltdown in Target after he lost the empty ketchup bottle he had been carrying everywhere for the last 6 weeks. (Don’t ask). At the time I was exhausted, and had a equally cranky 5 year old begging for McDonald’s. It’s possible I threatened to knock her dentures out. Any jury would have acquitted. An ASD kid’s tantrum isn’t the result of poor parenting. Any sort of sensory overload could have triggered a meltdown and a struggling parent might need some help or just and understanding a smile, even a hug. I doesn’t need PAGE 2your judgement. And I don’t need a case.
06.
07.
08.
I know all about that, my cousin’s best friend is autistic. This isn’t all that bad considering some of the others, but if you know one autistic person, you just know autistic person. Autism is a spectrum of disorders, with so many symptoms and behaviors that it’s unlikely my kid is anything like your family member. He’s just being picky. He should eat whatever you give him. He’ll eat when he’s hungry. - Actually he won’t. And how many days should I starve him while I wait for his sensory issues with certain foods to miraculously cure themselves? Trying to force him to just taste it, will probably end with him throwing it up. And then my sensory issues will kick in, and I’ll throw up. Who needs this drama?
Oh, he doesn’t seem that bad. - This has been said to me many times, in response to “My son is autistic.” I didn’t say he was bad, I said he as autistic. Autism isn’t bad, and there isn’t anything wrong with him. He just interacts with the world differently than you or I. Different can be a beautiful thing.
So what can he do? - I admit, I was thrown by this at first. Like what do you think he is a trick pony? I know many 09. 09. movies and books about folks on the spectrum will highlight a special talent or genius they have. Though my son does have some special talents, like a crazy sick memory, I don’t know that it has to do with his autism and many ASD kids don’t. It’s not a buy one get one free kind of deal. 10.
Will he always be like that? - Will he always have Autism? Yes. Will he always be reciting entire TV episodes to himself, humming to self soothe, or whatever atypical behavior you are noticing at the moment? To tell the truth I don’t know, there are behaviors and symptoms he had for years that have disappeared and new ones have taken their place. There is no road map to autism, I’m just along for the ride.
I know most people don’t mean any harm when attempting to discuss our ASD children. And I don’t mean to insinuate you should ignore our child or not ask questions, especially if this is a close friend or family member. We need your support. My hope is that you approach the situation with more tact and compassion and save the judgement. Cause we’re mommies and we’re sensitive about that shit.
“I think that it is not only autistic people who need to learn. The people who don’t have autism must learn to understand us and be tolerant”

TOP 5 HOME BUYING TIPS
By Amber Raymond the Realtor ARE YOU READY TO TAKE THE EXCITING PLUNGE INTO HOMEOWNERSHIP BUT DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START? HERE, ARE SHOW
THE TOP FIVE TIPS FOR
FIRST-TIME HOME BUYERS THAT WILL HELP MAKE SURE YOUR JOURNEY IS AS SMOOTH AND STRESS-FREE AS POSSIBLE.
Identify your needs. You may have always dreamed of a five-bedroom home, with a huge backyard and a pool, but have you considered what you truly need in a home? Where you thought you would be when you first thought of buying a home, may not be where you are right now or where you’re planning to go.
Focus on the right now and use it to expand your dream home. Consider what your current needs are and what your needs may be in the future. Make a list of the things you need and want in your new home, considering your current needs and possible future needs. You will identify the most important things about viewing homes when you have a clear understanding.
Know your true cost. Housing costs include more than just the mortgage. Be sure to know what your home will cost. Property taxes and homeowner’s insurance will also have to be added to the cost. Home maintenance, lawn, and yard care, maintaining appliances, unplanned repairs or replacements, and any Homeowners Association fees if applicable, should be considered as well.
Build your savings NOW.
BOSSY MAGAZINE
Set up automatic transfers to your savings account from each paycheck. Use your savings account to set aside bonuses you earn at work and tax refunds. Cut spending costs. Review your bank account for debits that could have been applied to your savings. For example, you can cut down the amount of money you spend by packing lunch for work.
Build credit wisely. When you’re preparing to buy a home, you need to be smart with your credit. Lenders use your credit score to determine whether you’re approved along with the interest rate and loan terms they’ll approve you for. Avoid common credit mistakes such as: Avoid opening new credit lines. Opening a new credit card, buying a new car, or applying for anything that increases your debt can negatively impact your approval. It’s important to have positive credit accounts, so use your credit wisely to keep improving your score. You can access all three of your credit reports for free at https://www.annualcreditreport.com.
Know what you qualify for before you begin shopping You can find out what you can qualify for before you even begin looking for a house. A conversation with your mortgage lender about your income, credit, employment, and asset information will let you know how much you qualify for. A pre-approval will help narrow down your search.
Buying a home is a massive step, so don't take it lightly and make sure you're prepared for the financial and emotional commitment.
FINDING YOUR PERFECT MATCH...IN THE STARS By AstroLyz
Compatibility refers to the ability to enjoy each other's differences and share similarities that lead to a journey together. It is something that we work on together and learn what makes someone happy or supports joy in life. Even if it's not our version of values or emotional understanding, we slow down and savor getting to know someone and be curious with them, leading to full compatibility. Maintaining a spark keeps both people mutually invested in each other's lives, and it takes time and effort to build it. We cannot rush something that takes a lifetime to develop. How long does it take for that seamlessness to exist? You can’t expect the same out of the random stranger, that you both mutually chose to call exist with. We can however see if zodiac or astrological signs are more harmonious making it smoother or easier to get in sync together.
BOSSY! Magazine
Astrology believes that each person is born under a specific zodiac sign that determines their personality traits, strengths, weaknesses, and compatibility with other signs. There are twelve zodiac signs, each associated with a specific element, mode, and planet. The elements are fire, earth, air, and water, while the modes are cardinal, fixed, and mutable. The twelve zodiac signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. Fire signs such as Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are passionate, enthusiastic, and adventurous. Earth signs such as Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are practical, stable, and grounded. Air signs such as Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius are intellectual, communicative, and social. Water signs such as Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are emotional, intuitive, and sensitive. Each sign has its strengths and weaknesses, and some signs are more compatible with others. Astrologers use various techniques to determine compatibility between signs, including synastry. Synastry is a comparison of two individuals' birth charts to determine how they interact with each other. So determine compatibility lets get curious and find out that birthday time, date, and location. There are various apps some people use costar, there is also the CHANI app and astroseek website to calculate your chart or contact an astrologer for a synastry reading. I offer astrological readings.Using astrology to review birth charts are usually best when wanting to learn about somebody at their core and can build intimacy when done together.
Overall, we have our big three, which is the sun, which usually is how we move into the spaces that we occupy, we have the moon, which is our inner being, and usually how we sit with, and process emotions away from people we aren't comfortable being vulnerable with. It doesn’t mean we won’t be emotive anywhere else but that’s usually who we are when we’re at home or with company that has known us and taking the time to get to know us then you have your rising, which is kind of like the charm sometimes the projection sometimes your aura, when you’re out and about and how people experience you.
The elements are fire, earth, air, and water.. Most times, air and fire signs work together, and earth and water signs can be complementary. But it doesn't mean that either of these thats a guarantee. Usually, Earth signs get along with Water signs, and it's vice versa. One must set a foundation between two people to determine compatibility. They must enjoy each other's company and figure out if they're headed in the same direction. For beginners are recommend looking at the Sun, Moon and Rising for a quick way to see if your elements mesh well or if jt may take additional transparency to build together.

Every sign has its benefits they have they’re great they have their difficult and there is that in between so if you are, let’s say a multiple water sign which means if you were a Pisces cancer Scorpio in your big three and you meet multiple air sign - Gemini, Aquarius Libra there may be moments that there might feel a disconnect, but if they were to have, let’s say a Venus in water and some other things it might actually work because you’re figuring out how to bypass some things you might share the same values. For those a bit more advanced then you can go a bit further. To understand astrological compatibility, one should first look at the elements. They should look at Venus, the planet of love, and its placement in their birth chart. Venus is also the planet of values, strategy, how we want to receive, and what we value in relationships and partnership. If there is someone who like an earth sign, that is very grounded and then there’s fire that is usually somebody who either gets bored easily or needs a lot of excitement. It might be a little bit harder because you might want to be in the house and your partner might want to be outside the house and if that is an issue, it needs to be a lot of conversation around that. We then have Mercury is the style to y’all communicate, process information, think and selfexpression. Some people are more reserved as they speak. Some are more animated as they speak.
For example, fire signs will always be more expressive and animated, but they may forget things or move on quickly from something. They will also be blunt and need clear and concise statements versus a water sign, who may on occasion not even know how to verbalize what they are feeling. Or an air sign who may either be strategic or have thought a lot about what they’re saying, and may be more open minded around their thoughts or evasive to choosing one way to be, versus an earth sign that may be slow to speak, but very intentional with what they’re saying, and if you miss the point, it might feel like their person doesn’t care.
fire signs will always be more expressive and animated When it comes to intimate relationships, are you both sexually and physically yoked? This can also be an important factor in longevity. More specifically sex drive and appetite for life energy overall is what Mars is designed as well as our fighting planets. Some people do like to argue or have discourse. Some people may have a larger appetite for adrenaline and testosterone, and constantly look for excitement while others just want to chill, emotionally connect in other ways or need certain things to happen before they get into the mood.

While astrology is not the only way to determine compatibility, it can help one understand themselves and their partners better. In conclusion, compatibility takes effort and time to build. It requires understanding someone's personality traits, strengths, weaknesses, and compatibility with other signs. While astrology is not the only way to determine compatibility, it can help one understand themselves and their partners better. The Company A Short Story
By Adrienne Hibbert
I never go to our company's annual gala because who has time to find a dress, do my hair, and then have someone cake 100 pounds of makeup on my face? Yeah, not my type of party at all, but unfortunately, I was asked to perform an original poem for the corporate guys who make all the money because that's just what I do.
I was asked to perform an original poem for the corporate guys who make all the money because that's just what I do. Perform and do dope shit! Perform and do dope shit! Well, here I am, getting my makeup done and rehearsing my piece. I do want to actually "wow" the audience, but the best part is after all that shuckin’ and jiving’ I get to go back to my favorite corporate desk job. Yay!
To no one's Surprise... I didn't bring a date. Of course, I am still happily single, and to choose a guy to go with me would be like letting him know I like him, and that's precisely the opposite of what I want to do! EEEEK! I have been on three dates in the past two weeks, and one guy stared at me the entire time we sat across from each other, and the other two spoke only about themselves for an hour and didn't seem very interested in learning about me. I also found out the last guy was in a relationship for four years and has been married for 8. He's looking for his 3rd wife, and he was hoping "I would be the one." And that's how he propositioned me to become his wife. So yeah… NO!. It was lovely. (Sarcasm at its finest) Dating has been a complete whirlwind of bull shit since I decided to open up my heart to "feel" and "trust" again. Respectfully, probably one of the worst ideas I've had in a while, but a much necessary one if eventually, I want to find a man to marry and procreate with. Right? RIGHT (Flat). Mind you, I am single but technically not single.
I have already done the procreate thing, and therefore, I come with two people when I enter into a relationship. The official kind of relationship, not the kind where we're just hanging out and smashing kind. NOT THAT TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP! But since I am a mother... that's pretty much where my singledom becomes a complex thing. My children being a part of my life isn't a big deal because they are a part of me and I always have their back, but they are a big deal when it comes to my dating life. We will get back to that part eventually. I mean, it's not like I'm going anywhere. Ok. Back to the gala. Can we say it was exactly what I thought it would be? The best fake smiles and laughs you could ever imagine. I was rubbing shoulders with all the people who talk shit about you daily. Smiling through gritted teeth at the chick who stole your last sale but you can't say anything about it because it's against company policy...

to address them after you received the email of them winning a discrepancy against you. That part! After spending 70-hour weeks with these people, we are forced to see them at a mandatory event for you to eat prepackaged preservatives called hors d'oeuvres. If I weren't performing I would pass harder than scoring a 1600 on the SAT! They might as well make the gala theme “Kings of the Fakes.” My company likes working you like a slave to make a bunch of money to eventually blow it on a mega yacht. Nah, not something I want to do at all but here I am, an indentured servant. All the managers and supervisors congratulate you on your successes even though they felt you could have worked harder. I just adore attending these office events. I grab a glass of champagne and stroll through the crowd mingling, telling jokes, office flirting with a few people. I mean why not? I am single and am always looking for someone to bat these brilliant browns at. I make small talk with my department VP and then it's show time. I am called up on stage to recite my piece and am ready for the shocking reactions I wrote for this performance. I've been known to straddle the politically correct line and am usually told I should follow the rules but don't. Rule breakers get shit done, and rule followers don't ever live their life to the fullest. I will never follow the crowd. Well, not every day, at least. I do have a corporate job. I’m just saying... I follow up on Mondays and Tuesdays. but that Wednesday through Friday, I'm a full-blown f&%$ing rebel!
Little Black boy, The world doesn't love you "Held him in my arms for the first time and just looked at him. Scared. because I had no idea what I was doing I had no clue that by giving birth for the first time, meant that I was giving a different importance to my existence. as he grows older I watch him be misunderstood and labeled constantly explaining the reasons why other little boys don't get punished in school like he is He doesn't get it. He asks me all the time, "Why do you care so much about what people think about me?" And I have to stop myself from slapping him. because how dare you ask me "Why, do I care?" Son, you are a representation of me and I am a representation of you and therefore, I care how the world views US! Because this world will USE US, till we are nothing and have nothing left Little black boys are disposable in this time, right in front of our eyes, But I refuse to let you think that you are not disposable, my love! You are a prince and are brilliantly mine and I will always care how the world sees you!
He doesn't get it. The piece I chose to recite is a poem I wrote as an open letter to my He asks me all the time, firstborn son. It’s a beautiful take on my path as a mother and the "Why do you care so much decisions I made to give him a life where he is seen as more than just a about what people think child that’s disposable. about me?"
Adrienne Hibbert The Company Gala: A Short Story
will always fight to protect you from the way this world will reject you. From the way this world neglects you They just don't get it! They don't understand having to talk yourself out of cursing the whole school out for calling your son angry while white kids shoot up schools for not being told they are wrong for doing the same things he does and worse! He thinks being black is a curse, because everything he does is considered, bad or angry, or malicious when he's just being a kid! Boys play rough and have fun! Boys will be boys and jump and run. He's just being a boy. He's just being someone's son! And as a black mother I just want to raise my son and not have to worry about Him having to stare down the barrel of a gun, holding his breath trying not to flinch because he's so afraid that he might not make it back home, today. Stuck in a moment not knowing if he should move or stay still, like time has for black men. Shot down in the street if you do right or do wrong, We still have no idea what to do to save our own lives. But if he makes it home today,
Don't let that stop you from loving Don't let that stop you from seeing, the world. I love you and see you and value all that you are. Little black boy, you are all that I am, You are all that we are. Little black boy, the world doesn't love you, But I do. I love everything that you are. The End." I bowed and as I entered the crowd, I was embraced and congratulated by several colleagues and guests. After the 26th "thank you," hug, and handshake, I managed to catch the gaze of one of the guests of honor. Standing 6-foot-tall with a chocolate brown complexion, I could only see his skin glowing when he stepped under the light. His perfect teeth gleamed from the background of his deep brown skin and perfectly trimmed beard. I remember being caught in midsentence before snapping back to reality. I went on to smile at a few more faces before dipping into a dark hallway to scope out where he had suddenly disappeared to.
He walked into my view, and I made my way to the bar where he was standing. He turned around after ordering his drink and walked over to speak to me. “Hi. That was a very moving poem. It was beautiful. It resonated with what so many young black boys experience and go through.” I blushed and said thank you. He put his hand out to shake mine and said, “My name is Chris.” “Thank you, Chris. My name is Jade. Nice to meet you.” I responded. “Pleasure to meet you as well.” He responded. I tend to be immensely shy around attractive men, so he was no different. I dip my head and smile and bat my eyes because I can’t help feeling like… Why does this man want to talk to me? Does anyone else have that feeling? No. Just me? Oh. Ok… cool. I stood next to him awkwardly until the bartender interrupted the silence with the clang of the glass from the drink I ordered. "You can put her drinks on my tab," He said before the bartender could utter my drink price. He looked at me and smiled. "That’s not necessary." I responded with, “You don’t have to do that."
What about tomorrow, and the next day and the next? Fear has become such a staple in his life that he's so afraid to do anything at all that he refuses to live. Restraints feel more like chains, and he's a slave to his mind. Limited by the views of time and the eyes that don't see him. Well son, please understand this, Little black boy, The world doesn't love you, like I do The world doesn't see you, like I see you The world doesn't value you, Like I do. But don't let that stop you from living.
Adrienne Hibbert The Company Gala: A Short Story
The Company Gala continued....
"Of course, I don’t, but I would really like to." I smiled and blushed and said, " Thanks. That's kind." I just would like a few more minutes in your presence if you are ok with that." I damn near peed myself after he said that. He leaned a little closer to me, and I was hoping he couldn't feel the heat from my body temperature rising. I was not trying to look like a groupie or desperate, but it has been a minute since I have had a feeling of “like” for anyone. He made small talk. He asked me about my daily life. He complimented my hair and complexion and smile, but I couldn't shake the fact that I couldn't figure out if this guy was into me for the ass and maybe nothing else. What professional basketball player approaches a girl at a party, knowing he can have any woman in the world and not think something is up? But I decided I should enjoy the moment. I jumped wholeheartedly into the moment. I drank and smiled and made jokes. He laughed and smiled and stared deeply into my eyes. I felt the intensity from the depth of his soul peer into me. He asked me to dance. I said yes, and he gripped my body like a cellist grips a Cello. His hands were strong. His embrace felt safe, and he leaned his chin up against the side of my face and whispered, "You’re one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever laid eyes on. I’m lucky you allowed me to experience these few minutes of your life." Like God damn, he's so suave! Sparks were flying left and right, and I couldn’t help but think, this must be how Cinderella felt. Once the clock strikes midnight, I go back to fighting crime from my desk, and he goes back to touring the country, and this night will be like a dream. Just an experience for both of us to say we shared. I unequivocally enjoyed every moment that brought me joy because life is too short not to say yes to happiness whenever it appears.

The Consequences of Not Resting Without rest, entrepreneurs' physical and emotional wellbeing suffers, leading to a decline in productivity, immunity, and cognitive skills. Over time this can lead to chronic fatigue, burnout, and even severe health issues. Ignoring the need for rest doesn't only impact the entrepreneur but also their business. An exhausted entrepreneur can lead to poor decision-making, miss opportunities or make mistakes with severe consequences. How to Incorporate Rest and Renewal into Your Schedule Entrepreneurs often struggle to find the time to rest, fearing they will fall behind or miss something important. However, taking breaks can improve overall efficiency and effectiveness in running a business. Incorporating rest and renewal into a daily routine doesn't have to be complicated. Simple steps like:
Scheduling short breaks throughout the day Taking regular longer breaks to disconnect Engaging in physical activities such as exercise Trying new activities outside the workplace Practicing mindfulness meditation c a n h a v e s i g n i f i c a n t i m p a c ts o n both physical and emotional well-being.

Instead of pushing themselves to their limits and risking burnout or even health issues, entrepreneurs should prioritize self-care by fitting it into their schedule. Incorporating rest and renewal activities into a daily routine can provide longterm benefits for physical and emotional well-being, leading to increased productivity, creativity, and business success.
