CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2 Showing from: Fri 18 Oct Tickets on sale now Inventor Flint Lockwood’s genius is finally being recognized as he’s invited by his idol Chester V to join The Live Corp Company. It’s always been Flint’s dream to be recognized as a great inventor, but everything changes when he discovers that his most infamous machine (which turns water into food) is still operating and now creating food-animal hybrids. With the fate of humanity in his hands, Flint and his friends have to save the world again!

FRANKENSTEIN Directed by Danny Boyle.

Thu 31 Oct, 7pm - With Jonny Lee Miller as Frankenstein & Benedict Cumberbatch as his creation. Sun 03 Nov, 3pm - With Benedict Cumberbatch as Frankenstein & Jonny Lee Miller as his creation. Frankenstein enjoyed a sell-out run at the National Theatre, and went on to win awards including the 2012 Olivier Award for Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller. Oscar-winner Danny Boyle directs a sensational production with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating roles as Victor Frankenstein and his creation. Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale. Price: £15/£13 per show or £26 for both shows, plus a drink at each screening.

CAPTAIN PHILLIPS Showing from: Fri 01 Nov

THE FIFTH ESTATE

Tickets on sale: Tue 29 Oct

Showing from: Fri 01 Nov

Although he is perhaps best known for revamping the Bourne franchise, Paul Greengrass also specialises in adrenaline-fuelled, fly-on-the-wall thrillers that depict real-life flashpoints. Shot almost entirely at sea, Captain Phillips is based on the true story of the MV Maersk Alabama, which in 2009 was hijacked by Somali pirates who took its captain hostage before making off in one of its lifeboats. Over four arduous days, the lifeboat was tracked by US navy warships, ultimately ending in a dramatic rescue attempt. Greengrass delivers his trademark unflinching, nerve-shredding style, while Tom Hanks gives a truly great performance as the greying, goateed captain, facing off against the pirates and struggling to retain his essential decency in the face of his ordeal.

Tickets on sale: Tue 29 Oct Through the eyes of Daniel Domscheit-Berg, an early supporter and eventual colleague of Julian Assange, the story follows the heady, early days of Wikileaks to its abrupt end after a series of controversial and history changing info leaks. The websites overnight success brought instant fame to its principal architects, but as their power expanded across the globe, Daniel grew increasingly disillusioned with Julian’s questionable tactics and ethics. The rift between the two friends became irreparable and their ideological differences tore them apart, but not before they revolutionized, for better and worse, the flow of information to news media and the world at large.

ENOUGH SAID Showing from: Fri 08 Nov Tickets on sale: Tue 05 Nov A divorced and single parent, Eva (Julia Louis Dreyfus) spends her days enjoying work as a masseuse, dreading her daughter’s impending departure for college. She meets Albert (James Gandolfini) - a sweet, funny and like-minded man also facing an empty nest. As their romance quickly blossoms, Eva befriends Marianne (Catherine Keener), her new massage client. Marianne is a beautiful poet who seems “almost perfect” except for one prominent quality: she rags on her ex-husband way too much. Suddenly, Eva finds herself doubting her own relationship with Albert as she learns the truth about Marianne’s ex. Enough Said is a sharp, insightful comedy that humorously explores the mess that often comes with getting involved again.

LOVE, MARILYN Showing from: Fri 08 Nov

ONE CHANCE Showing from: Fri 08 Nov Tickets on sale: Tue 05 Nov Based on the true story of opera singer and Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts this slyly comical, warmhearted film begins as the young Paul struggles with his insecurities in the grimy Welsh Valleys, clicking into gear when his Carphone Warehouse co-worker (a hilariously zoned-out Crook) badgers him to date the equally unconfident Julie-Ann. As their relationship hesitantly develops, so does his career – with only mixed support from his bickering parents and the professionals whose ear he erratically catches.

Tickets on sale: Tue 05 Nov Documentary. Marilyn Monroe invented her public persona at the expense of concealing a private side known only to her close confidants. Fifty years after her death, her creation still blazes brightly in our cultural imagination, while the creator continues to lurk in the shadows. Drawing on never-before-seen personal papers, diaries and letters, Academy-Award nominated director Liz Garbus worked with acclaimed actresses to evoke the multiple aspects of the real Marilyn passion, ambition, soul-searching, power and fear - in an absorbing and astonishing portrait. These documents, brought to life in this film by some of our contemporary icons and stars, give us a new and revelatory understanding of Monroe, revealing her carefully guarded inner life.

GRAVITY 3D & 2D

Showing from: Fri 15 Nov Tickets on sale: Tue 12 Nov Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone - tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth, and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON Showing from: Fri 15 Nov Tickets on sale: Tue 12 Nov Japanese language film with English subtitles. Another poetic and moving work from art-house favourite Hirokazu Koreeda (Still Walking, I Wish), this heart warming drama follows a wealthy businessman as he discovers that, through a misunderstanding, his biological son was switched at birth. Winner of the Jury Prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, the film explores familiar themes of fatherhood, loyalty and the complex dynamics at work in any family, in the director’s characteristically sensitive, minimalist style.

PETER GRIMES ON ALDEBURGH BEACH (OPERA) Showing on: Sun 17 Nov Tickets on sale: Tue 29 Oct As part of the celebrations to mark the centenary of Benjamin Britten’s birth, Peter Grimes comes home to the very beach that inspired it, in a landmark open-air staging by Aldeburgh Music. The role of Grimes is sung by Alan Oke, who received huge critical acclaim for his portrayal of Aschenbach in the 2007 Aldeburgh Festival production of Death in Venice. Fisherman Peter Grimes is an outsider in the community of misfits and eccentrics who populate the Borough, a fictionalised version of the village of Aldeburgh in Suffolk. Is he responsible for the death of his young apprentice? Is he mad, evil, or a misunderstood visionary? Britten’s viscerally beautiful masterpiece has captured audiences’ imaginations worldwide ever since its premiere in 1945, transforming the sadistic fisherman of The Borough, the poem by George Crabbe on which the opera is based, into an enigmatic anti-hero. Directed for the screen by Margaret Williams. Price: £14/£10

PHILOMENA Showing from: Fri 15 Nov Tickets on sale: Tue 12 Nov Judi Dench and Steve Coogan play unlikely friends in the shocking true story of one woman’s search for a lost son. Falling pregnant as a teenager in Ireland in 1952, Philomena was sent to a convent to as a “fallen woman.” When her baby was only a toddler, he was taken away by the nuns for adoption in America. Philomena spent the next fifty years searching for him but with no success. Then she met Martin Sixsmith, a world-weary political journalist who happened to be intrigued by her story. Together they set off to America on a journey that would not only reveal the extraordinary story of Philomena’s son, but also create an unexpectedly close bond between Philomena and Martin. A compelling narrative of human love and loss, showing that there is laughter even in the darkest places.
