The Warrenville Park District Executive Director's Message

As the summer begins to wind down, and fall quickly approaches, there is always something exciting going on at the Warrenville Park District.

This fall we will hold the second annual Youth Adventure Race for kids ages 6-14 at Summerlakes Park on Saturday, October 7th at 3pm. Last year we had a tremendous turnout where kids were challenged by tasks such as climbing, crawling, and crossing creeks. We look forward to an even bigger turnout this year with new challenges and obstacles. If you didn’t attend last year make sure you put it on your calendar right away.

It is a must attend event!

We also have and exciting project taking place at Summerlakes Park.

We are in the process of putting in a new scenic overlook replacing the old one that was in desperate need of replacement. While you are out walking around the pathway, you will be able to sit down and look out over the wetlands and enjoy the view. Adam Dagley, who provides nature based programming and works in our parks department, along with the Conservation District, and volunteers have been working very hard the past couple of years trying to limit the invasive species and bringing back more native plants. This area will not only provide a great overlook of the area, but will also include a walkway down to the wetlands where kids can get in and explore. We are very excited to get that project started and completed by the fall.

There are also a number of events taking place this fall including Art on The Prairie which will be held up in the City Hall parking lot the weekend of September 16-17th. It is always a great time to stop up and see some local artists and enjoy some music. Also Fall Fest will be held on October 27th at the Recreation Center. We will have games, food, music and fun for the entire family. Take some time to flip thru the program guide and see everything we have to offer.

For just $1 a week, permanent half lockers are available to members for overnight storage of exercise apparel on a yearly basis.

ANNUAL TRACK MEMBERSHIP FEATURES: Walk, run, or jog any day of the year! The track is an elevated 3-lane walking/jogging track that overlooks the gymnasium and has large windows to view the outdoors! This is a great opportunity for parents to get some exercise while watching their child participate in a program held in the gym. There are 17 laps per mile. Shirts must be worn at all times, and clean, dry gym shoes are required. No street shoes, please.

Membership holders 12-14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult member 18 years of age or older.

Tracey has a love of distance running and through her running has discovered a passion for fitness and a healthy lifestyle. It’s her goal as a Personal Trainer to assist you in achieving your goals through safe, fun, and effective workouts, no matter what fitness level you are at. She also strives to help you take the discipline and creativity that you learn from your time together and apply it to your everyday lifestyle. Tracey earned her certification with World Instructor Training School and also has a level 1 coaching certification with USATF.

Valencia has over 15 years of experience training clients from all walks of life. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, certified as a Holistic Life Coach and lectures for the World Instructor Training School to certify future personal trainers. With both high school and collegiate level playing basketball experience, she has the credential to train and coach players to take their skills to the next level.

It is her purpose to utilize her education, background and experience as an athlete, personal trainer and life coach to educate and empower people to achieve balance, harmony and positive change in his/her life.

Personal or partner trainings are designed to meet specific needs of each individual who chooses this path to fitness and total well being. One of our certified personal trainers designs and conducts safe, effective, and highly motivating exercise sessions. Participants must be at least 12 years old.

All members are encouraged to consult with our personal trainer to have their current fitness level evaluated. The test measures flexibility, muscular, and cardiovascular endurance and body composition. The results of the evaluation are used to create a program designed to meet the individual’s specific goals and needs. This program provides information about repetitions, which machines to use, time, frequency, duration, and intensity of your cardiovascular program. Periodic evaluations are recommended to monitor your progress. Sign up today with a personal trainer for your fitness evaluation.

Briana Misener Briana’s passion for fitness started through her own successful personal weight loss and strength training experience. An ACE certified Personal Trainer, Briana understands how challenging yet important it is to find time to take care of yourself. Briana enjoys motivating people to invest time in themselves and reach their goals by providing client-focused workouts in a friendly and genuinely caring atmosphere. She believes in educating her clients and working with them to create new lifelong healthy habits. In addition to personal training sessions, Briana enjoys teaching small group functional training and boot camp classes.

Jump Start Session Getting started has never been easier!

All NEW FitnessNOW Annual Members will receive a complimentary “Jump Start” session with one of our Certified Personal Trainers. Flex Pass is offered every 5 weeks with a guaranteed total of 30 offerings per week during various times, Monday through Sunday. The Flex Pass allows you to take any class on the group exercise schedule. BATTLE ROPES Ages 16+ Time to change up your routine with an unconventional training technique that puts some life back into your workouts and shocks some different muscles into action. Battle ropes are a highly effective, back-to-basic type of conditioning that bring a new twist to your fitness routine. HIIT Circuit Ages 16+

This 45-minute intense bootcamp-style class gets your blood pumping and tests your strength and endurance. A variety of strength and cardio is challenging for all levels of fitness. The class consists of a 5-minute warm up, 35 minutes of cardio and strength, and a 5-minute cool down and stretch.

Introduction of kettle bells and TRX are a part of some of the circuit-style workouts. Boot Camp is sure to never be boring! To sign up for this class please refer to the Flex Pass.

Total Body Conditioning Ages 16+ Total Body Conditioning incorporates a variety of cardiovascular and muscle conditioning exercises. Low-impact aerobics combined with strength training and resistance exercises using hand weights, bands, and stability balls work all the major muscle groups. Flexibility and stretching at the end completes this workout designed for all ages. To sign up for this class please refer to the Flex Pass.

The Warrenville Park District needs your help! Come join us as we begin our restoration of the Ferry Creek Wetland at Summerlakes Park. Participants will learn how to identify, and remove invasive species, plant and collect seed.

Each dance is a pattern of steps that repeats throughout the song. We'll dance about 10 different dances to country, pop, rock, oldies, and current hits. Fused Glass Mosaics Ages 18+ This class will delve into the art of mosaic with a twist. In this two-session class you will explore glass-on-glass mosaics without using adhesives and traditional tile grout. In our first session we will focus on overall design composition and construction as you prepare your 8” x 8” glass-on-glass mosaic for the first firing. During the second session, you will grout your piece while making additional fused components to use in future fused glass mosaics. Fall Garden Stake Workshop Ages 16+ Celebrate the Fall Equinox by creating a work of art that can be enjoyed in your fall garden for years to come. You will create a Fall themed fused glass tile for a 13” round garden stake. Glass tiles will be designed with a precut base piece of glass and a variety of pre-cut glass components of your choosing, making this a great class for beginners. Basic glass cutting and fusing techniques will be demonstrated and samples will be available for viewing. No experience is necessary. Bring a friend and enjoy the changing of the seasons together!

Explore the art of kiln formed glass in this 3 hour introductory class. Learn the process of glass fusing from cutting and designing to glass compatibility, kiln preparation and firing schedules. Do you love the Blackhawks? We use shorter sticks and plastic pucks to teach your child everything they need to know about beginning hockey. Parents will have their own sticks to assist their child during practices. We practice stick handling, passing, shooting, basic positions and the goalie position. Rookie Basketballers Ages 4-6

Lil Pint Soccer/T-Ball with Parent Ages 3-4 It’s time to team up with mom or dad in this pint-sized sports class. This program is perfect for children who are full of energy and parents who are looking for an introduction to soccer and baseball. Parents will help their children in developing socialization, teamwork, direction following, and key motor skills.

The first three weeks you will work on soccer and the second three weeks will be baseball skills. A fun game with the parents will be played at the end of each class. 1223 lacrosse camps are fun, exciting and for players of all ages and skill levels. Campers will learn the correct way to pass and catch through up-tempo drills designed to maximize repetitions, as well as proper shooting form. Other skills include: ground balls, individual defense, unique dodges, and much more! The camps are held once a week and will feature players participating in fun games and modified scrimmages that reinforce the core fundamentals learned that day. If you are new to lacrosse or missing gear, equipment rental is available for a nominal fee.

Youth Floor Hockey League Grades 1-6 Comes join Warrenville's newest Youth Sports League! Floor Hockey games will consist of three, twelve-minute periods in a 4v4 format (including goalie). Teams of up to 7 players per a team will be assigned by the Athletic Supervisor. Requests for teams, players, coaches, are not guaranteed. Volunteer coaches are always welcomed and needed. Sign up now for fall soccer action! This volunteer-coached program introduces the fundamentals of playing soccer through weekly practices and an eight game schedule that emphasizes proper technique, knowledge of rules, participation, sportsmanship, and fun. Players are assigned to teams based on their grade entering in 20172018 school year. Players will be contacted by their coach after they have been assigned to a team. Basketball League Assessments Grades 1-8

Co-Ed Youth Basketball League Grades 3-4

All participants enrolling in Bitty Basketball, Co-Ed Basketball, Hot Shots 5th-6th Basketball , Hot Shots 7th-8th Basketball , or Girls Inter-District 7th-8th Basketball are REQUIRED to attend the league basketball assessment. Volunteer Warrenville basketball coaches will assess your basketball skills. These assessments will help us form balanced teams in the Bitty, Co-Ed, Inter-District, and Hot Shots Basketball Leagues. The Co-Ed Youth Basketball League helps players learn and reinforce basketball skills and fundamentals. Learning while having fun is the main goal of this league. Games will be played on Saturdays against teams from Warrenville and Winfield Park Districts.

Practices will begin the week of December 18th. Teams will be allowed to practice up to two times per a week. All players will receive an end of season trophy and graduating 4th graders will receive a brand new basketball and graduation certificate in addition to a trophy at the end of the season.

Bitty Basketball League Grades 1-2 This program has been designed to introduce boys and girls to fundamental skill development in a practice setting and through organized games. At this age level, participants play on 8-foot baskets and use a junior-sized ball. Teams will have one practice per week and play games against other teams on Saturdays once the season begins.

Actual game and practice schedules will be scheduled once the teams are formed. WARRENVILLE MUNICIPAL VAN PROGRAM Effective Jan. 1, 2013

ACORN (Access City Operated Rides Now) Warrenville’s Accessible Van Service for Senior & Disabled Citizens Warrenville offers a municipal transportation program called ACORN for its special needs residents. The Acorn Van transports disabled and senior residents (over 60) from their homes to any destination within a 5-mile radius of City Hall (28W701 Stafford Place,) including medical facilities, shopping centers, entertainment venues, and friends’ homes. The van operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00A to 4:00P, with the first pick up at 8:30A and the last pick up at 3:30P (no holidays). A charge of $3 per one-way and/or round trip within Warrenville applies. The fee is $3 per one-way trip outside of Warrenville. Applications for ridership are available at City Hall.

General Info Program Refund Policy

Behavior Management/Code of Conduct

A refund will be considered for the following reasons: 1. All refund requests must be received 24 hours prior to the first class.

You will receive your choice of a refund or household credit if the program is canceled by the Warrenville Park District.

2. All refunds applied for are subject to a 10% or $5 minimum service charge.

3. No refunds will be given after class begins without a doctor’s certificate.

Fees will be prorated starting with the day the Refund Application is received in the Park District Registration Office. The amount of the refund will be credited to your household balance and may be used to register for other programs.

4. Check refunds are approved at the Warrenville Park District board meetings held on the third Thursday of each month, unless otherwise designated. Deadline for submission is the 30th of each month.

All participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been developed to help make all of our programs, events, and affiliate programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. Additional rules may be developed for specific programs as deemed necessary by staff.

Trip Refund Policy Applicants need to complete a Trip Refund Form at least 24 hours in advance.

Applicants may only receive a refund if they find a replacement person to occupy their place on a trip or if the Warrenville Park District has not paid trip expenses.

Service charges will apply. In cases of sickness or emergency, participants will need to leave a message at 630.393.7279 x307, prior to trip departure with their name, telephone number, trip name, and reason for canceling.

WARRENVILLE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION Baseball Season Is All Year!

The WAA is a not-for-profit organization comprised of up to a 12-member all-volunteer board and is an affiliate of the Warrenville Park District. The WAA’s mission is to provide high quality youth baseball programs to Warrenville and surrounding communities. Emphasis at all levels is placed on sportsmanship, team spirit, and baseball fundamentals. It is the belief of the WAA that baseball programs serve our community by creating a place for our children to have fun, become more physically fit, learn good sportsmanship, and learn basic concepts of teamwork -- including tolerance of others -- and recognition of different skill levels.

Some of our major activities throughout the year include the preseason banquet, season opener, All-Star games and the annual 4th of July Cerny Series. We also fund travel team tournaments, capital improvements, and general field maintenance via our procurement and management of Hotel/Motel Funds from the City of Warrenville.

Games are played throughout the week and continue until June. Playoffs for Pinto, Mustang, Bronco, and Pony leagues end the first week of July.

While we at the Warrenville Park District try to be accurate in the information presented in our brochure, some unavoidable errors or changes to the programs, fees, schedules, and other information may occur. The Park District apologizes for any inconvenience resulting from these necessary adjustments.

Park District Risk Management Association In 1993, the Warrenville Park District became a member of the Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA). As a loss prevention measure, that group has asked its members to require program participants to execute a release form. The Waiver, Release and Hold Harmless Agreement is part of the registration form.

Please read the form carefully, sign it and submit it when you register for any particular program. At the time of registration or at the first program session, you may be presented with a sheet describing some of the particular risk involved in that particular activity for which you have registered. If so, that additional material will become a part of the Waiver. Release and Hold Harmless Agreement.

We want the registrants in our programs to be aware in advance that, when they participate in certain activities, there is a natural element of risk of injury which each participant must assume. We do not carry medical or accident insurance for program participants. The costs of that type of personal health insurance would make program fees prohibitive. Please review your own personal health insurance plan to be certain that you and your family have the proper coverage. The use of this form is one of our answers to the national liability insurance crisis, allowing us to continue to offer quality programs to the public at a reasonable cost. Warrenville Park District insists that all participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups comply with a basic behavior code. All participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups shall: 1. Show respect to all participants, staff, and volunteers.

2. Follow all program/event rules and take direction from staff.

3. Refrain from using abusive or foul language.

4. Refrain from threatening or causing bodily harm to self, other participants, or staff.

5. Refrain from harassment of any kind to other participants or staff.

6. Refrain from any type of bullying.

7. Refrain from any type of aggressive and violent behavior during park district or affiliate sponsored programs.

8. Show respect for equipment, supplies, and facilities.

9. Not possess any weapons.

The Warrenville Park District expects all individuals to conduct themselves in a manner in keeping with their levels of development, maturity, and demonstrated capabilities with a proper regard for rights and welfare of other individuals, staff, volunteers, and district officials.

Discipline A positive approach will be used regarding discipline. Staff will periodically review rules with participants during the program session. If inappropriate behavior occurs, a prompt resolutions will be sought specific to each individual’s situation. Warrenville Park District reserves the right to dismiss a participant, parent or sibling, or affiliate whose behavior endangers his or her own safety or the safety of others.

SPORTS FIELD STATUS The Park District’s programs, special events, games or practices may be canceled due to severe weather.

The applicant holds the park district harmless for any damage caused by participation in these programs. The park district provides no medical insurance. In an effort to better serve our residents, we are pleased to announce that the Warrenville Park District is accepting online registration. You will be able to confirm your registration or check program availability through our Website www.warrenvilleparks.org, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We are using Web Trac, a new online registration process. All previously registered online users have been assigned a new user name and password.

To obtain your new user name and initial password, contact the registration office at 630.393.7279 and verify your household information and members.

Upon verification you will be provided with your user name, initial password, and instructions to log on.

Non-residents of the Warrenville Park District will be required to pay an additional fee per program. This is a flat rate per program and will be added onto the regular program fee at time of registration. Active Older Adult Programs and Trips do not have a non-resident fee charge.

Periodically, photographs and videos are taken of participants during programs, special events, trips or at the parks. These photographs may be used for park district publications and/or newspapers. Please note that we do not identify the people in the photographs. Patrons may be asked to sign a photo release form in certain instances.
