Executive Director's Message

A Community Partnership That Benefits Everyone

One of the things that makes Warrenville such a special community is the spirit of collaboration among our local government agencies. By working together, we are able to find meaningful ways to serve residents and create opportunities that benefit the entire community.

A wonderful recent example of this partnership is the new StoryWalk® installed this spring at Summerlakes Park. The Warrenville Park District and the Warrenville Public Library submitted a Hotel/Motel Tax Grant application through the City of Warrenville Tourism and Arts Commission to help bring this innovative project to life.

The StoryWalk® features a series of mounted signs displaying pages from a children’s picture book along a walking route, encouraging early literacy, physical activity, and quality family time outdoors. It is located on the accessible pathway between the pavilion and the skate park at Summerlakes Park, making it easy for families of all ages and abilities to enjoy.

To keep the experience fresh and engaging, the featured book will be changed quarterly, with an emphasis on offering stories in both English and Spanish. We are excited to provide this unique amenity to our residents and hope it becomes a favorite destination for families in our community.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the City of Warrenville Tourism and Arts Commission, City staff, City Council, and the Warrenville Public Library for their support and partnership in making this project a reality. Their commitment to collaboration helps strengthen our community and supports the Park District’s ongoing mission to be “The Place to Be!”

As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions about how the Warrenville Park District can better serve you, please feel free to contact me directly.

Wishing you a fun, healthy, and memorable fall with your friends, your family, and the Warrenville Park District.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier Vermont. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT - MANNY GARAY:

Manny Garay has been volunteering with the Warrenville Park District for approximately five years. His volunteer journey began through his children – Manny, Sonny (“Money”), and Gianella. Committed to being present and involved in everything his children chose to pursue, Manny initially volunteered as a way to support them, spend quality time together, and create lifelong memories. Over time, that commitment grew into a passion for supporting, encouraging, and cheering on countless other children and families throughout the community. What Manny enjoys most about volunteering is being part of something larger than the game itself. He values the opportunity to help build strong teams, foster a supportive community, and encourage young people to develop confidence, character, and a sense of belonging. He believes every child should know they have someone in their corner to guide, motivate, and inspire them to believe in themselves while supporting those around them. Manny firmly believes that strong, close-knit communities do not happen by accident – they are built by people who consistently show up for one another and lead by positive example. Through volunteering, he strives to support not only the “Garay Gang,” but all Warrenville children and their families, helping them become the best versions of themselves. For Manny, volunteering goes far beyond coaching; the kids he works with become an extension of his family.

If you or someone you know has an idea you would like us to consider, please let us know.

Your suggestions and comments will be a valuable resource for evaluating future programming.

Please submit programs ideas to Sheri Potter, Superintendent of Recreation at sherip@warrenvilleparks.org.

Warrenville Park District is committed to providing affordable recreation and fitness services to all residents wanting to participate in our programs. Community Engagement

Together we CAN make a difference!

The Community Advisory Network will be focused on engaging the community to gain feedback and listen to community suggestions with collaborative participation. The goal is to build strong and diverse relationships within the community and creating mutually beneficial dialogue. Meetings will be held quarterly with predetermined questions to guide discussion and conversation.

Hey Teens! Let’s create a space where teens can thrive together.

The Teen Advisory Group is a leadership team that gives middle and high school students the opportunity to develop leadership skills and brainstorm imaginative programs and event ideas. TAG members will meet monthly and engage through team building and planning. These youth will also be involved in managing a program budget and learning how to allocate funds for instructors and supplies. The goal of the program is to provide a safe welcoming space for teens to have recreational opportunities as well as social and emotional support.

Our Commitment to Quality and Service

Total quality management is one of our goals. We strive to provide you with high quality recreation programming, and we take pride in making your experience with the Warrenville Park District an enjoyable one. If you are not completely satisfied with your recreation experience or any service that the park district provides, please contact us to share your concerns and suggestions for improvement. We would also like to hear what you especially like about our programs and services. Please call 630.393.7279 to receive our Customer Feedback Form.

Errors and Adjustments

While we at the Warrenville Park District try to be accurate in the information presented in our brochure, some unavoidable errors or changes to the programs, fees, schedules, and other information may occur. The Park District apologizes for any inconvenience resulting from these necessary adjustments.

Park District Risk Management Association

In 1993, the Warrenville Park District became a member of the Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA). As a loss prevention measure, that group has asked its members to require program participants to execute a release form. The Waiver, Release and Hold Harmless Agreement is part of the registration form. Please read the form carefully, sign it and submit it when you register for any particular program. At the time of registration or at the first program session, you may be presented with a sheet describing some of the particular risk involved in that particular activity for which you have registered. If so, that additional material will become a part of the Waiver. Release and Hold Harmless Agreement. We want the registrants in our programs to be aware in advance that, when they participate in certain activities, there is a natural element of risk of injury which each participant must assume. We do not carry medical or accident insurance for program participants. The costs of that type of personal health insurance would make program fees prohibitive. Please review your own personal health insurance plan to be certain that you and your family have the proper coverage. The use of this form is one of our answers to the national liability insurance crisis, allowing us to continue to offer quality programs to the public at a reasonable cost. If you have any questions, please call 630.393.7279.

General Information

Behavior Management/Code of Conduct

All participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been developed to help make all of our programs, events, and affiliate programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. Additional rules may be developed for specific programs as deemed necessary by staff.

Warrenville Park District insists that all participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups comply with a basic behavior code. All participants, parents, siblings, volunteers, and affiliate groups shall:

1. Show respect to all participants, staff, and volunteers.

2. Follow all program/event rules and take direction from staff.

3. Refrain from using abusive or foul language.

4. Refrain from threatening or causing bodily harm to self, other participants, or staff.

5. Refrain from harassment of any kind to other participants or staff.

6. Refrain from any type of bullying.

7. Refrain from any type of aggressive and violent behavior during park district or affiliate sponsored programs.

8. Show respect for equipment, supplies, and facilities.

The Warrenville Park District expects all individuals to conduct themselves in a manner in keeping with their levels of development, maturity, and demonstrated capabilities with a proper regard for rights and welfare of other individuals, staff, volunteers, and district officials.

Discipline

A positive approach will be used regarding discipline. Staff will periodically review rules with participants during the program session. If inappropriate behavior occurs, a prompt resolutions will be sought specific to each individual’s situation. Warrenville Park District reserves the right to dismiss a participant, parent or sibling, or affiliate whose behavior endangers his or her own safety or the safety of others.

Inclusion Services

Inclusion services are designed to provide the least restrictive environment while providing the maximum opportunity to participate in regular park district programs. There is no charge for Western DuPage Special Recreation Association’s (WDSRA) support. To register for services, simply indicate that special accommodations are needed on the park district registration form. Threeweek advance notice is requested for inclusion support.

Pitch to the Pros!

Is there a particular class you have been looking for? Is there something new your kids or you would like to participate in? The staff will consider all submission, however, pitching an idea does not guarantee the program will be created. Send your ideas to Sheri Potter, Superintendent of Recreation at sherip@warrenvilleparks.org
